Review of curtains and tulle with Velcro for plastic windows, curtains with Velcro

Roller blinds are a universal solution for decorating wooden windows. The design is based on an aluminum pipe onto which a fabric sheet is wound. When folded, they take up minimal space without affecting the interior. In the lowered position, the canvas fits tightly against the glass, providing protection from sunlight and a high level of privacy. At the same time, the frame made of noble wood remains visually open, which has a positive effect on the interior. Roller blinds have a convenient control system that locks the curtain when lowered at any level.

Open and closed design

Roller blinds are available in two types:

  • open - the design consists of an aluminum shaft, a guide mechanism and a bottom bar. Brackets are installed on the sides of the shaft for fastening to the sash or wall;
  • closed - the design of the curtains is complemented by a protective box in which the shaft is installed. The box protects against sagging and is fixed to the sash, which ensures a tighter fit of the fabric to the glass.

Open models have a low price; closing the curtains is more practical.

Three control principles are implemented in open and closed roller blinds:

  • using a chain cord;
  • spring holder;
  • electric drive.

The spring holder has a short service life, and the electric drive requires additional costs. The chain cord can be installed on either side of the window; it fixes the curtain in the desired position. Models with electric drives are suitable for windows that are difficult to access.

In what interiors are they used?

Their advantages are obvious - always in fashion, nothing superfluous, and a simple and convenient way of fastening. Velcro curtains go well with plastic windows. They will decorate and complement the following interior styles:

  1. Modern styles. Roman blinds, fixed with Velcro, fit perfectly into modern designs such as hi-tech, minimalist loft, and modern. Simple and at the same time elegant curtains can be attached in different ways. Strict and restrained, they perform a protective and aesthetic function. Monotonous models are more suitable for a minimalist loft. In high-tech interiors, options with metallized threads are recommended.
  2. Rustic styles, country and Provence. These styles can also be jazzed up with Velcro window curtains. A rustic interior allows you to experiment with colors and patterns. Roman blinds can be complemented with other types. Transparent and translucent options look especially harmonious. Decorating with twisted cords, fringe and symmetrically cut edges will not be a hindrance. Plastic windows, decorated with Velcro curtains, go well with Californian and Mediterranean-style interiors. The main emphasis is on natural materials and shades of curtains.
  3. Fashionable urban style. Its electric shapes and interior elements combine well with elegant and ergonomic window curtains that unify the main accents and color scheme.
  4. Classic. Velcro curtains also work well with this style. To do this, you need to choose a model made of good, expensive fabric in calm, warm colors.
  5. Antique interior. When creating a design in a retro or vintage style, Roman window curtains are indispensable. In this case, you will need to complement a simple model with an antique print, an aged cornice and fabric made using the patchwork technique.
  6. Interior of a children's room. This interior detail will decorate a child’s room well. Bright colors and fun designs are encouraged here. In general, everything that can please children. They also have the advantage of being removable and washable. You can get a little creative and decorate your children's room with curtains with funny tassels or balls. Thus, a simple basic curtain turns into a bright and irreplaceable interior detail.

Mounting methods

There are several ways to install roller blinds:

  • to the wall or ceiling using brackets and anchor connections;
  • self-tapping screws to a wooden window frame;
  • without drilling using double-sided construction tape;
  • using spring brackets installed on the upper edge of the window frame.

The choice of installation method depends on the desire of the home owner to simplify his task and preserve the integrity of the frame made of valuable wood. You can use double-sided tape when installing roller blinds of small width. Spring brackets provide reliable fixation of structures of any size.

Loggia or balcony: how to attach curtains with Velcro

Today it is customary to use a balcony or loggia as a living space, which often turns into another makeshift room. In addition to other fastening methods, loggia curtains can be installed with Velcro.

Velcro curtains are often used to cover windows on balconies and loggias.

However, their use requires compliance with additional conditions that will ensure the strength and reliability of the curtains.

Do-it-yourself Velcro curtains for the balcony have a certain difficulty in installation, since the windows installed here reach the very top, and they can be strengthened with great difficulty. It is impossible to install a cornice, curtains on nails are not aesthetically pleasing, and the most effective and aesthetic way would be to use Velcro.

An excellent option is to use Roman blinds. They have a number of advantages:

  • do not interfere with opening windows;
  • do not flutter from gusts of wind;
  • do not require significant material costs;
  • used in various colors.

Attention! Do not forget that the design features of balconies and loggias require significant air movement, so heavy fabrics are inappropriate here.

The best choice for balcony curtains would be tulle, muslin, organza, silk, cambric, curtain fabric.

The fabric can be attached to a block with Velcro, then installed on the window frame and secured with fasteners.

Mounting on windows with vents

When installing roller blinds on a wooden window with a window, the width of the window sill is taken into account. If there is enough space to open the window, then the roll is fixed to the wall or ceiling outside the opening. With a narrow window sill, you will need two mini canvases that are fixed to the frame. One is installed on the window, the second - on the part of the glass under it. The light weight of the rolls allows the use of double-sided tape or mounting adhesive for fixation.

The assembly process takes place in several stages:

  1. The shaft part is being assembled.
  2. A bracket with a drum is fixed to the top of the sash.
  3. The length of the cord is adjustable.
  4. The running of the web is checked.

For windows with a window, you can choose curtains from the mix series. A special feature of these models is non-standard unwinding: the roll rises in the opposite direction - from bottom to top. This will allow you to fix the canvas, leaving the window open.

Cassette roller blinds without drilling

Roller blinds can also be installed using a cassette system on plastic windows without drilling; moreover, the cassette system will hold up much better than the mini system, since its gluing area is much larger. The adhesive tape is glued along the entire length of the decorative box, which covers the roll of fabric.

Uni

Roller blinds of the Uni system are cassette curtains with one sheet of fabric that can be installed on the frame or sash of a plastic window without drilling. Unlike free-hanging systems, in cassette systems the roll of fabric is covered by a decorative box, onto which, when installing the products with double-sided tape, an additional adapter is installed, onto which the adhesive base is glued. This system holds the sash much more firmly. So, guides are also glued to double-sided tape, which can be either flat - this is the Uni-1 system (Uni-1), or "U" - shaped - the Uni-2 system (Uni-2).

Uni-2 PIM (spring inertial mechanism (Uni-2 PIM)

Roller blinds of the Uni-2 system with PIM (Uni-2 PIM) - refer to cassette curtains, i.e. The edges of the fabric on the sides are fixed with guides. The system can be installed on inclined roof windows at a slight angle of up to 15 degrees, otherwise the fabric will fall out of the guides. The tension of the fabric is carried out by a spring-inertia mechanism (PIM). These curtains can also be installed with adhesive tape, but this is less desirable, since the frame is constantly under tension created by the spring, as a result of which the adhesive tape can come off. But at any time you can additionally screw them onto self-tapping screws, and in this case the product will hold very firmly.

Zebra Uni

Roller blinds of the Zebra Uni system are a cassette roller blind with a double sheet of fabric, which has every chance of installation without drilling. By analogy with conventional Uni cassette curtains, an adapter for adhesive tape is also installed on its cornice.

The curtain stays on the sash quite well and firmly. If, of course, the surface is well cleaned and degreased before installation.

Automatic Uni

Automatic roller blinds of the Uni system are a relatively new model on the roller blind market. The electric drive is combined with a power supply and a radio receiver and is installed inside the rotating shaft. You can notice the differences with a regular “cassette” only by the absence of a control circuit and the presence of an inconspicuous connector on the side bracket for connecting the charger. The curtain needs to be charged 1-2 times a year. Periodic charging depends on the frequency of use of the product.

Useful tips for hemming curtains

Regardless of the chosen method of folding the curtains, you first need to let them hang freely for several days. This will help the fabric take its natural shape vertically and horizontally. After completing the work of hemming the curtain, do not immediately cut off the excess material. It’s better not to be lazy and sew on the remaining fabric using a hidden seam. This trick will help you adjust the length of the curtains as accurately as possible after washing, since there is a risk that the material may shrink slightly.

After washing, the curtains will finally take their shape, and the hemmed excess can be safely cut off. Professional seamstresses measure the required height from the cornice, securing the material with a basting stitch or using sewing pins. Next, the curtain is removed and the excess fabric strip is cut off from it. It is recommended to iron the seam area well, and only then proceed to hemming.

Color selection

A variety of Velcro curtains can convey one or another mood in the existing interior of the room. Therefore, they should be selected thoroughly, starting from the existing design style. At the same time, depending on the purpose of the room, various games of color and contrast are allowed. For example, roller blinds on different windows may have the same material with the same pattern, but different colors.

Light-colored products in niches look good. Visually, they erase the rigid boundaries of rooms, making the room lighter and more spacious. They can be designed in different ways. For example, for one window you can select up to several curtains of the same size, fix them on top with Velcro, and tie them with decorative tiebacks in the middle.

You can slightly modify this design if, in addition to fastening it from above, you fix the curtains with Velcro and from below.

Products on the cornice can be combined with a transparent veil or openwork tulle. They will look beautiful together with roller blinds. At the same time, for roller fabrics you can choose a fabric that fits beautifully into soft folds, and for the main curtains you can use medium-density textiles. Together, such decor will look light and airy, despite the sometimes rough appearance of self-adhesive loops.

It is better to choose a contrasting color for such curtains, but in soft and muted shades of the color palette. The contrasts of two different tones look especially harmonious today. It can be white and grey, brown and milky, gray and pale blue, a mix of sand and turquoise. Contrasts can be conveyed not only through the background, but also through the pattern, which will add variety to the sometimes boring interior design. In addition, it is the use of color to match one of the room’s accessories that will allow the curtains to fit harmoniously, without contradicting the overall concept.

To decorate plastic windows, you can use curtains with geometric patterns and ethnic patterns. Products with a floral theme must be selected especially carefully so as not to simplify the appearance of the windows themselves. For example, such products will look better with the same leaves and solid colors rather than with overly bright roses. In addition, such colors do not fit into every interior.

Even if the curtains themselves seem beautiful, you need to weigh the appropriateness of the purchase and at least mentally imagine how they might look against the background of existing furniture, central and auxiliary lamps, and accessories.

It is important to understand that diversity can create an imbalance in the perception of space. You need to take something that will not irritate your eyes when looking at the curtains every day. Otherwise, over time, it will be difficult for household members to stay in this room.

Hemming of curtains without hemming

One of the new ways of shortening curtains is worth considering in more detail. Modern housewives rarely have the time and skills to hem curtains using sewing devices. It is very convenient to reduce the length of the curtains by gluing the tape with double-sided adhesive. The web tape is prepared in the following way: the material is carefully tucked to the required distance, the seam is ironed. The curtain fabric is placed between layers of tape and glued using an iron. To ensure everything works out right the first time, you should first try it on a small piece of fabric. Some types of material will additionally require an ironing iron.

Attention! If you need to bend heavy curtain material, it is recommended to use adhesive tape in two rows to ensure its holding power. When using tape to hem the curtain, it is worth keeping in mind that it may begin to peel off during intensive washing. But this drawback can be easily eliminated. You can reuse the tape and your curtains will look like new again!

In addition to tape, specialized clips are used to shorten curtains. They make it easy to model fabric and create waves to lift the material to the desired height. This method will require some skill, since it will not be possible to achieve symmetry right away. Clips are not suitable for hemming heavy and dense fabrics. Hemming curtains using tape is one of the most affordable methods to achieve the required length. First, the length and width of the tape are selected, and excess material is cut off. A double hem will help make the edges neater, but only if the material is unlined. The resulting seam is ironed and sealed.
