Blinds for triangular windows and standard-shaped window blocks are selected taking into account the properties of the lamella materials and the operating principle of the mechanism. In this case, the dimensions and method of fastening the finished product matter. You need to make sure that it can be installed on a triangular window, since not all types of structures exactly repeat the shape of the opening.
Pleated blinds for non-standard windows
As I have said many times, these are some of my favorite products. They look perfect on any window, perhaps even better on triangular windows than on regular rectangular ones. So, pleated is a corrugated fabric that folds into an accordion when the window is opened. This type of blinds can be installed on triangular, trapezoidal, round, and attic (slanted) windows. And even install automation on them. Be sure to watch the video below, it will show these blinds for round windows, as well as non-triangular ones with automatic control. There are a lot of systems of these blinds, if you are interested, click for more details.

Sorry for the video quality of some videos, but for a general understanding I think it will be enough. With automation, it’s absolutely super! Is not it?

Classic curtains and tulle on a sloping window
Sliding straight curtains on a standard cornice mounted parallel to the floor above the opening conveniently mask the sloping shape of the window. This option involves the use of a lambrequin, the length of which depends on the slope of the sides of the triangle - the sharper the angle of the apex, the longer the lambrequin. Otherwise, when the canvases are pulled apart, the wall near the top of the opening will be visible.
When choosing a style of curtains yourself, it is worth remembering that, first of all, functionality is important, and secondarily, decorativeness.
Straight curtains for triangular windows are also fixed on inclined sides, emphasizing the non-standard nature of the opening. In this case, the panel must be cut in the shape of a beveled trapezoid with a right lower angle. The beveled edge is attached to the cornice and must coincide with it in angle of inclination. Its length depends on the abundance of expected folds. You won’t be able to pull these curtains apart, just tie them up, not fully opening the gap. If the location and purpose of the room allows you to neglect protection from prying eyes, choosing a transparent material for curtains will solve the problem. Any fabric can be used based on the interior concept, including tulle and muslin (thread curtains).
Vertical blinds
Vertical blinds, perhaps in a non-standard format, can only be used on inclined windows, like in the photo. In this case, the design differs from standard vertical blinds only in the extended slider holder, to which a hinged extension is added.
Well, in order to make them with high quality, you need to accurately measure the dimensions of the product, and most importantly the angle of inclination, since all the slats in this case will be of different lengths, and if the dimensions are taken inaccurately, along the lower curved line, all the shortcomings will be visible. In this case, I don’t see the point of including a video so as not to weigh down the page; photographs will be enough.
There are a great variety of designs, multi-textured, with photo printing, fabric, plastic, aluminum, perforated, figured, wavy, fragmented. If you need more details, click the button.

Types of material
There are several options for blinds, which differ in the type of materials and properties:
- plastic;
- wooden, bamboo;
- metal;
- fabric;
- paper
Plastic structures have average strength, last a long time, do not require complex maintenance - it is enough to periodically remove layers of dust from the slats. In this case, you do not have to dismantle the blinds. This is a universal option, suitable for most interiors.
Wooden/bamboo types are considered eco-friendly. They are wear-resistant and at the same time create comfort in the room. Such models are more expensive than plastic ones. The disadvantage of bamboo structures is the lack of an intermediate position: to illuminate the room, you will have to completely raise the canvas.
Metal products are the most durable. They are rigid, not susceptible to moisture, but make noise during operation. The slats are heavy and it is impossible to reduce the size of the structure.
Metal products are less popular; they are more often installed on windows of industrial enterprises. In a country house, preference is given to wooden, fabric or plastic blinds.
Fabric curtains require maintenance, despite their dirt-repellent properties. They gradually accumulate dust and stains appear on the slats. However, it is possible to reduce the size of the canvas. It is enough to move the bottom bar and hem the bottom. True, this cannot always be done on your own.
A paper product has different properties: the canvas has corner areas (folds), they can straighten out during long-term use, which will affect the appearance. The paper is not resistant to mechanical stress. These blinds should be used with caution.
Horizontal blinds
Horizontal blinds for triangular windows are quite an interesting option, but not all manufacturers will undertake their production. Since usually the fabric of these blinds consists of many slats, the length of the slats is set on the machine, and the machine makes the slats oval, at the same time cuts off the required length in the required quantity and punches holes for the guide ropes and ladders. Due to the highly automated process, these products for ordinary windows are quite cheap. But in the case of making blinds according to non-standard sizes, all this is done manually, which greatly affects the price. Plus, not all companies have manual presses for punching holes and cutting lamellas.

Selection criteria depending on windows
When you need to choose a way to decorate a window and reduce the intensity of solar radiation in a room, consider light-protective structures that are different in design and technical characteristics.
Criterias of choice:
- Type of design: horizontal, vertical, roll, etc.
- Material: fabric, plastic, metal, paper, wood, bamboo. Pay attention to the products' susceptibility to moisture, strength, service life and endurance.
- Caring for the selected light-protective structure. Possible methods: wet or dry cleaning. For example, pleated paper is a more demanding option and does not tolerate moisture. For this reason, only dry rags can be used to handle such blinds. Plastic, metal and even bamboo analogues tolerate contact with a humid environment well.
- Design and compatibility with the style of the room. For example, if the window is stained glass, purchase fabric curtains (roller blinds) made of transparent material. You can take your own window design ideas as a basis.
- Assess the possibility of lifting the canvas. If a window unit with a window is installed, it is important to ensure that it can be opened.
- Degree of sun ray retention. Roller blinds, day-night models and horizontal blinds installed on the sash cope well with this task.
- The method of fastening takes into account the dimensions of the window, the dimensions of the slopes and the distance from the window block to them.
To choose the right blinds, you need to take into account not only their parameters, but also the characteristics of the window.
An easy way to make curtains for skylights with your own hands
Do not hurry. This is completely useless when it comes to the most important element of attic decor. Approach the matter carefully and with creativity - this is the only way you will achieve the desired result. Of course, such a project requires at least minimal sewing skills - it is unlikely that a beginner will be able to handle such a volume of fabric with accurate calculations the first time.
- It all starts with the choice of materials. Use only high-quality fabrics that, as a result of the work, will look exactly like in catalogs or your ideas, if this is an original concept. Calculate the quantity and purchase 20-30% more fabric - this practically guarantees that there will be enough material under any circumstances.
- Carefully measure your window opening or openings. It’s good if the windows are the same, so you can use one pattern for all the curtains. Don’t be afraid to leave a lot of fabric for draping, as everything unnecessary can be removed in the process without loss.
- Start transferring the pattern onto the fabric. Here, too, you don’t need to spare any effort; mark all the details and little things with chalk. After carefully marking, cut out the pattern pieces, but don't forget to take into account the space for seams and the need to hem the fabric at the very last stages.
- When sewing the finished parts, do not forget to take into account the characteristics of the fabric from which your future curtains are made. Professionals, as well as factory curtain manufacturers, often use different types of closed seams to bring the appearance of the back side as close as possible to the front side. After preparations, sew the fabric.
- Finish all seams and edges, as well as the top where the part for fastenings will be located. All imperfections and minor mistakes that you may have made during the process can be easily hidden at this stage - you just need a little care.
- Take care of the fastenings. Their type is not important - you can choose any one, from loops to eyelets, the main thing is that you personally find it convenient to work with it later. You don't have to worry about top mounts in the early stages, as adding them doesn't affect the overall piece.
- Now you need to hang the almost finished product on the cornice. This is necessary so that you can clearly examine all the possible minor flaws in your work and immediately eliminate them - for example, straighten the length.
- If everything is fine, then you can leave the curtain hanging in its rightful place, and in case of minor problems such as damaged seams, remove it, fix the problem and hang it back.
More on this topic: Hanging curtains beautifully
As you can see, making curtains for the attic is practically no different from the same process for the windows of ordinary rooms. You just need to carry out the calculations a little more carefully to avoid your own unnecessary expenses. In return for your efforts, you will get a unique opportunity to create your own, unique curtains and not overpay the agency for it. The advantages are obvious - a special design that will certainly suit you, full compliance with the interior already existing in the attic, speed and reduced cost.
Mosquito nets for non-standard windows
Original window openings, like classic windows, are equipped with mosquito nets.
They protect rooms in an apartment or private house from insects, dust and pollen. Read more about the types of mosquito nets on OknaTrade. Mosquito nets for round, arched, bay windows and other non-standard window structures are attached to a profile frame of the required size and shape. For example, for a round or arched opening, the profile is curved so as to exactly repeat its shape. Polygonal, trapezoidal or triangular meshes are installed on parts of the profile at the required angle and connected.
The production of custom mosquito nets is a slightly more complex process than the production of standard-shaped products, which is why they cost more.
If you order a window of a non-standard shape, we recommend that, if possible, you take care of making a mosquito net from the same manufacturer; this will be the most profitable solution for your budget. Some companies often offer mosquito nets for free or at a reduced cost.
In addition to the above methods of designing non-standard openings, an original solution would be to replace ordinary glass with stained glass.
So the window itself will become a worthy addition and decoration to the interior of the room. Whatever design you choose for your non-standard window openings, installing accessories yourself can lead to various problems during the operation of the window. The best solution would be to turn to professionals. They will install structures efficiently, reliably and provide a guarantee for the work.
Pleated curtains
Pleated curtains are one of the simplest, and at the same time beautiful decorative options for windows of complex shapes. Compared to traditional curtains, pleated curtains have the following advantages:
- Range. Transparent, translucent and opaque fabrics, the choice of which allows you to regulate the flow of sunlight and lighting.
- Installed on plastic windows without drilling.
- Compact - when assembled they look like a strip of fabric no more than 3 cm.
- Special impregnation of fabrics guarantees fire safety and protection against dust penetration.
- The pleated fabric does not need to be washed or ironed.
What are the benefits of Roman blinds on triangular windows?
Roman blinds on plastic and wooden windows provide excellent protection from street views, look impressive, and are convenient for regulating the comfortable access of light. Having chosen the Roman option, you need to make sure that the canvas will not interfere with opening the doors for ventilation.
Roman blinds on wide glazing can look bulky; two triangular panels look neater. Panoramic glazing can be decorated with several narrow panels, each of which stops folding at a certain height (the closer to the center, the higher). This approach emphasizes the non-standard contour, makes it softer, frames it, adapting it to the interior.
Solid canvases that completely cover the opening look best on “house”-shaped openings, where only the upper part is triangular.
Installation options for arched blinds
Below the bend of the arch
The advantage of this installation is that even with the windows curtained, there is an additional source of light in the room. This arrangement emphasizes the beauty of the opening. To attach such curtains below the bend, install a straight curtain rod. If the window is double and the distance between the profiles or between the window sashes is large enough, you can create something like a molded cornice. The only drawback is that the curtains will remain motionless along the window opening.
Above the bend of the arch
This position visually increases the height of the ceilings, making the room lighter and more spacious. If desired, you can completely close the window from the sun's rays. To install this structure, use a straight cornice. You can add an original addition to a window with an arch using translucent fabric or tiebacks.
Along the bend of the arch
This model is installed using a special cornice. This option gives an exclusive look. Light adjustment is done using laces. A varied combination of curtains that are fixed along the arch and those located on a straight cornice will make the most modest interior original and interesting. The opinion that windows can only be decorated with fabric curtains has long been outdated. With a modern number of different design trends, you can design openings in a non-standard way and dilute your interior with original elements. Today, stores offer a huge selection of curtains that will highlight the unusual shape of windows rather than hide it; for example, elements of natural wood will harmoniously suit any interior style. Blinds for arched windows are universal for any type of room. They allow you to effectively regulate the level of lighting, as well as make the transition from walls to ceiling softer to increase the volume of the room.
Advantages and disadvantages
Curtains have undeniable advantages over curtains:
- Able to block the flow of natural light until completely darkened.
- Vertical and horizontal rotating structures better regulate the intensity of daylight.
- Curtains are much more compact than curtains. They save space in the room.
- Does not require painstaking care. It is not necessary to remove the slats from the cornice; it is enough to vacuum them or clean them from dust.
- They do not fade, do not accumulate static electricity and do not repel dust.
- The control mechanism is simple and convenient.
The disadvantages include the following facts:
- Intense light, which penetrates in stripes when the blinds, consisting of single slats, are folded, irritates the eyes.
- Vertical slats sway in the wind and create noise.
- Pleated blinds do not last long because they unravel quickly.
- Models such as folds, rolls and cassettes do not allow air to pass through well.
- Some plastics are susceptible to the elements: long horizontal plates may bend over time, and white plastic may yellow.
- Paper curtains don't last long.
The more complex the control mechanisms, the more attention is required when maintaining them.
Positive reviews posted online and recommendations from designers confirm that curtains are suitable for any room.
What curtains are suitable for the attic?
First of all, your further choice depends on your initial need. If in the attic there is a study, a relaxation room for the whole family or an elegant dining room, you can safely choose any styles that you need to create the desired interior. The situation is a little different with the bedroom - here it is advisable to choose more massive fabrics that let in little light.
You may need to choose between single-layer and double-layer curtains depending on the type of loft you have. If the window takes up an entire wall, it makes sense to decorate it with heavy tulle curtains, adding massive curtains made of heavy fabric on top. This combination will favorably emphasize the size of the window, and lower tulle curtains on a sunny day will not spoil the lighting.
Curtains look beautiful, especially on large windows, but more and more people prefer blinds. This trend applies more to several small windows in the attic, since it can be difficult to find a set for oblique windows of a large size and a non-standard shape such as a circle.
Blinds in the interior as an artistic medium
In addition, shutters on the windows make the design of the room more interesting and elegant. Here are some of the most common design techniques based on their application:
- Change the aspect ratio. Vertical or horizontal stripes allow you to visually adjust the proportions of the room. Make it taller or wider.
- Playing with light and shadow. Clearly defined stripes of light and shadow that move along the surfaces of floors, walls and furniture can highlight the features of their shape, the beauty of the materials used, and their texture. It is especially suitable for modern, laconic styles that lack decorative details.
- Introduction of colors and prints. There are curtains with almost any image, pattern, photo printing. With their help, you can greatly enliven the interior of a living room, nursery or bedroom, add brightness and contrasts.
- A bright accent in the interior. In other words, blinds are a powerful artistic medium with enormous potential.

General information
Decorating arches using this type of curtain will allow you to expand the boundaries of design ideas. Blinds are adapted to any shape of arched openings. Due to ceiling or wall mounting, they can be installed on any ceiling size, which allows the designer to experiment with ceiling heights. This great solution will visually make the room more spacious. To satisfy any whims of interior design, you can choose classic and, on the contrary, bold ones, for example, pleated curtains.
The main feature of the blinds that decorate the openings is the shape of the cornice. This element of the device must contain elasticity and strength. Good curtains should not be deformed, and the slats should not change their original shape. Cornices for arched blinds include a reinforcing element that keeps the cornice itself from deformation over a long period of use, resulting in a wear-resistant and strong structure. Cornices are made using German technology from a special profile, giving this product a high level of quality that is valued all over the world. Almost all curtains are made from environmentally friendly materials.
The main types of blinds for window arches by shape:
- vertical;
- horizontal;
- pleated.
Main material:
- plastic;
- aluminum;
- textile;
- multifaktura.
Ways to care for roller blinds
Features of the products include gentle care. Washing of fabrics is carried out manually, the water temperature should not exceed 30 °C. If the surface is slightly dirty, clean it with a dry brush, wipe it with a sponge soaked in clean water, or vacuum it. The use of concentrated detergents may not be justified. Because when drying, harmful substances can enter the air. Canvases can be dry-cleaned if it is possible to disassemble these structures yourself or call a specialist for this purpose.
