Recently they have begun to use carpet for laying it on balconies and loggias, but not everyone knows how to do it correctly. Since the balcony is not a simple room, carpet with synthetic pile is better suited for it.
A covering such as carpet must be laid only on a flat surface or on a backing. I would like to say that if you choose a modern artificial carpet for your loggia or balcony, and it contains plant and mineral substances, as well as synthetic fibers, then you do not need to use a backing and do not glue it with tape.
Floor on the balcony, what to lay on the floor. What to lay on the balcony floor: from carpet to laminate
A variety of options that allow you to turn a balcony into not only a cozy relaxation room, but also a workplace, allow you to treat this matter on a grand scale. But do not forget that a balcony (especially a glazed one) is not suitable for all materials. Winter freezing, humidity in spring and autumn, excessive sun in summer - all climatic factors that the balcony flooring material must withstand. Of course, you can simply paint the floor on the balcony with weather-resistant paint - cheap and cheerful.
By laying carpet on the balcony, you can significantly increase the level of comfort
There are a great many other materials in modern design:
If the balcony is not glazed, then the best covering for it is ceramic tiles. She doesn’t care about all climatic influences. The problem with cleaning disappears on its own; there is nothing easier to wash ceramic tiles. You just have to pay attention to frost-resistant material. The same criterion should be taken into account when choosing adhesive for tiles. If the climatic conditions are completely unbearable, porcelain tiles are suitable. It has maximum density and porosity. Porcelain tiles do not allow water to enter the pores, so heat of 50°C and frost of minus 50°C will not harm them. The appearance of the tile will not change. Strength and stability allow it to withstand heavy loads for many years. Externally it is similar to natural stone, but other surfaces can be imitated.
Linoleum is the most versatile material, but is only applicable for a glazed balcony. In frost, any linoleum, regardless of quality, will become covered with cracks and become unusable. And if water gets under it, rotting may begin.
And yet, linoleum is the most affordable of all materials. It is strong and durable. It is very easy to install and unpretentious in content. With the help of this material, you can realize your wildest desires by decorating the floor on the balcony, right down to rainbow ponies. Carpet is a very soft material and is used only on a glazed balcony. It is ideal for the floor if you are making a room for work or relaxation. The carpet allows you to move barefoot, it is very soft and pleasant to the touch. If there is a child in the family, then this material will be beyond competition. Various colors to suit any decor. And when cleaning it will be enough to use a vacuum cleaner. If the balcony is insulated, then you can use laminate. Choose the highest class of laminate. Then all temperature changes are of no concern. He will endure everything.
Light floor on the balcony. Floor on the loggia
Happy owners of a loggia often think about how to turn this additional room in the apartment into a cozy corner for a comfortable pastime at any time of the year. The easiest task in renovating a loggia is installing the floor. In order to save money, you can carry out the process yourself. What should the floor on the loggia be like? When starting work, you should rely on several criteria:
- Resistant to temperature changes.
- Warm and pleasant surface for feet.
- Ease of use.
- Lightness of materials used for installation.
Preliminary work
Before considering flooring options, you need to prepare the floor for finishing. This procedure involves the following steps:
- We remove old screed, paint, linoleum, tiles, as well as unnecessary things from the loggia.
- We eliminate pockets of dampness or rotting.
- We plug the cracks through which rain and snow seep.
- Spray with a construction preparation against fungi.
Sequence of operations
- Waterproofing. The surface is lined with a special film or covered with waterproof plaster.
- Thermal insulation. Mineral wool, penoplex, polystyrene foam, that is, any materials with a low thermal conductivity coefficient, are suitable here.
- Leveling the surface. If there are small defects, it is customary to use a self-leveling mixture. Large defects can be leveled out using a screed, or logs, which are cross beams made of hard wood, can be installed under the wood flooring. As a rule, the floor level of the living area and the loggia are different, therefore, with the help of logs, we raise the floor on the loggia to the required level. In addition, if there is a need to raise the floor by 20 cm, a layer of expanded clay will allow this to be done.
- Primer. This product increases the strength of the base and promotes better bonding to the floor covering. For wood surfaces, it is customary to use an alkyd or polystyrene primer; the concrete base is treated with an epoxy variety, applying it two or three times.
Preparing the floor
Carpet will look great only on a smooth and level floor. Before you start laying, check the floor with a level and a level lath for unevenness and horizontalness. The base flooring should not deviate from the norm by 5 - 7 millimeters.
If the curvature of the carpet base exceeds these indicators, then this must be corrected. You also need to walk on the floor surface of the cycle.
Before installation, the carpet must be kept in the room for at least a day so that it can acclimatize. If the carpet roll is thick, then it must all warm up to room temperature, so it is necessary to keep the carpet indoors for more than one day.
