What is a standard laminated door?

Laminated doors successfully replace high-budget options: solid wood models or veneered ones. The decorative film on the surface of the door serves as protection against damage and imitates real wood. It is easy to care for, versatile and durable. It is not without reason that lamination is used not only in the manufacture of interior doors, but also for floor coverings and various furniture.

Structure

What are laminated doors? In terms of its composition, it is a symbiosis of several materials, together representing a composite product. In this original way, the product is given unique properties that are not inherent in conventional wooden structures.

The composite method of manufacturing wooden slabs involves preserving the basic properties of wood and adding some synthetic substances, which together gives the material improved characteristics.

Laminated doors, due to their structure, cost less than their natural counterpart. And the natural and synthetic materials underlying laminated doors allow you to achieve optimal quality and durability.

Individual components of laminated products:

  • Wooden frame;
  • Filler;
  • MDF overlays;
  • Film.

The frame of the door block is made from wood processed using special technology. A beam made from such material is called laminated veneer lumber. It is resistant to changes in temperature and humidity and is installed around the entire perimeter of the door leaf.

The filling usually consists of corrugated cardboard or polyurethane. Some unscrupulous manufacturers may fill the canvas with foam.

MDF boards are sheets glued to a frame made of laminated veneer lumber. MDF is produced from waste wood production in the form of wood chips - pressed at high temperatures and joined together with adhesives.

The film is a coating applied to the base using a temperature-vacuum method. Thanks to this film, laminated doors are ultimately obtained.

The procedure for making laminated doors

The frame of the door leaf is most often made of light pine timber, glued with moisture-resistant polymer compounds. Decorative finishing is made from MDF panels, whose technical and visual characteristics are close to natural wood.

It is worth noting that the most affordable options for laminated doors are finished with plywood or chipboard. Unfortunately, such products are susceptible to moisture, so they are used only in dry rooms.

The soundproofing properties of the finished door are improved by the filler used to fill the voids in the wooden frame. Budget and light-weight ones are filled with corrugated cardboard, more expensive and high-quality modifications are finished with solid MDF sheets. The second option has high levels of heat and sound insulation, but is heavy and requires the installation of massive hinges.

Decorative finishing of the door leaf is done using thin MDF panels (panels), glass or light mirrors. A layer of laminate or dense PVC film is glued to the surface of the finished product.
