A variety of decorative elements are used to directly decorate the door. Today, platbands are widespread. Their main purpose is to mask the gaps between the frame and the doorway. The direct choice of decorative strips depends on the width of the opening. The shade is selected identical to the canvas.

What is a telescopic casing?

In its appearance it is similar to a classic door frame. The telescopic device is a protrusion that is used to connect this component with additional elements and the frame.

Important! Telescopic platband is used if the thickness of the box exceeds the wall.

The protrusion that these parts have ensures their strong fixation in the shared grooves of the end surface of the box.

High-quality installed telescopic door frames become almost invisible, and the device itself acquires a finished appearance, reliability and wear resistance. But if the installation of telescopic trims is carried out with errors, then this element will not fit tightly into the door frame. As a result, a gap is formed and as a result the door looks sloppy.

The problem of insufficient frame width is solved by two types of products:

• Template. Such products are a regular corner. Allows you to increase the width of the box by several centimeters;
• The telescopic platband increases the width of the tray to 150 mm. Platbands of this type are equipped with an extension with a special groove.

Materials used in production

For the production of telescopic frames, the same materials are used as for standard products. But most often such elements are made from natural wood, MDF panels or chipboard. Products made from natural wood can be additionally covered with veneer, plastic or aluminum panels.

The principle of choosing the material is quite simple: the platband must match the material of the canvas. That is, for canvases made of natural wood, wooden frames are also used. And for canvases made of fiberboard and platbands made of fiberboard.

Variety of devices

Telescopic products are classified by material and size. Regarding the material of manufacture, the following are distinguished:

• Decorative planks made of wood. With today's abundance of building materials, wood has not lost its popularity and significance, as it remains an environmentally friendly and versatile material. Wood overlays are suitable for any type of door frame.

Important! The undeniable advantages of wooden components include the possibility of further restoration.

Telescopic element made of wood

• Product made from MDF. These types of parts have a presentable appearance and imitate wood. The coating can be varied, but the most common is laminated paper. However, such a coating is afraid of dampness, so washing it is strictly prohibited;
• Plastic. This type of material has recently begun to be used for the manufacture of decorative overlays. But thanks to its moisture resistance and accessibility, it quickly gained popularity. It is worth noting the extensive color palette of the material;
• Ceramic linings are used only when the interior of the room is finished to resemble natural stone. Such elements are intended for decoration and are in little demand due to limited use.

The size of a telescopic device is determined only approximately, especially if we are talking about the telescopic version of this device. Extensions and trims can always be cut perpendicularly and longitudinally. Telescopic dimensions are characterized by final figures that practically do not differ from the generally accepted ones. The width of the decorative strip is from 60 to 80 mm.

Important! The width of the platband shelf embedded in the groove is constant and equals 40 mm on the outer side.

The set includes trims of standard length. Telescopic extensions have a variety of widths, and the length is identical to conventional trims.

Installation

How to install an interior door with your own hands, equipped with platbands of the type we are interested in?

Box installation

The simplest and least expensive way to rigidly secure a door frame in a deep opening is to use direct drywall hangers. The price of one suspension is 3 – 3.5 rubles; to install the box you will need 6-8 pieces.

For final fixation of the box and sealing of the opening, polyurethane foam is used.

In addition to what has been mentioned, we will need several spacers that will prevent the foam, which expands as it hardens, from bending the hanger pads and jamming the door leaf.

The installation instructions look like this:

1. We assemble the box according to the dimensions of the door with a gap of 3-5 mm;
2. We cut out the grooves for the hinges and hang the door. It is better to select grooves using a hand router, but in its absence you can get by with a hammer and a sharp chisel;
3. Having marked the attachment points along a plumb line, we screw the suspension pads to the box;
4. We expose the door and screw the hanger ears to the wall with dowel screws;
5. We break off the excess ears;

1. If necessary, adjust the position of the door plumb and level;

Please note: a properly positioned door leaf in an opening should not close or open under its own weight.

1. Having closed the door, we wedge the gaps between the canvas and the frame with wedges made of wood or plywood;
2. We foam the opening around the perimeter. The foam fills no more than 2/3 of the cavity: recall that when it sets, it greatly increases in volume.

Pruning

Straight trims are trimmed:

• In corners - diagonally or straight. It is better to use not a miter box, but markings in place: marks are applied to the edges of the overlapping platbands, connected by pencil lines. For cutting, use a stationary circular saw or a hand saw: a jigsaw and a hand-held circular saw will not allow you to make an accurate cut;

The opening looks neat only if there are no gaps in the corners.

• Under the lock mate and hinges. The cutouts do not reach the edge of the tenon by 5 - 8 mm.

Hint: instead of cutting out the casing, you can remove and re-screw the hinges and the lock mate. In this case, the platband will be fixed more securely.

The additional batten is trimmed only to the height and width of the opening. Unless you have a lot of experience, don't try to cut bevels at a 45-degree angle; a right angle made by a beginner will look much neater.

Fastening

How to securely install the additional strip and how to secure the telescopic trims?

The extension is attached only to mounting foam.

As in any business, there are several subtleties.

• The additional strip must be wedged with several horizontal and at least a pair of vertical slats. Outside, several pieces of foam can be laid between the bar and the opening. They will ensure the fixation of the spacers due to their own elasticity;
• For an additional solid wood plank, 4 spacers are sufficient. For MDF you need at least 6 - 8: the material is flexible and can be deformed, which will give the opening an untidy look;
• Before foaming, the wall must be cleared of debris and dust. Don’t be lazy to vacuum the opening;
• Foam adhesion will be better and setting will be faster if you first moisten the opening and the outer side of the additional strip using a sprayer;
• You need to drive the bar into the groove of the box either using a rubber mallet, or with light blows of a hammer through a soft wood block.

In most cases, the platbands fit into the groove tightly enough so as not to worry about the reliability of their fastening. To make the connection stronger, you can apply a strip of liquid nails or silicone sealant to the inside of the groove.

The platband is tightly inserted into the groove without additional fixation.

Cutting defects in the corners can be masked with acrylic wood putty of the appropriate color. On wood or MDF of dark colors, the use of transparent silicone sealant gives surprisingly decent results.

How to install telescopic decorative trims

This type of device is quite easy to assemble.

Important! To avoid damaging the floor covering, it is recommended to use a protective film during assembly.

Installation algorithm:

• The old box is dismantled;
• Beams are placed on a horizontal surface for direct assembly of the box;
• The upper blank is applied to the edges of the vertical posts and cuts are made;
• The racks and the vestibule are fixed;
• The assembled device is placed in the doorway and secured with wedges;

Important! To ensure correct installation, check the vertical and horizontal position of the structure.

• The box is fixed using fastening bolts;
• The canvas is hung and the trim is installed.

How to attach trim to a door frame without nails

Choosing a size

If you understand the concepts: “telescopic frame for an interior door” and “what is it”, then you should pay attention to the adjustment range. Most often, it varies between 1.5-2 cm. Therefore, before purchasing, do not forget to measure the thickness of the opening walls. It is best to do this in several places, as this will reduce the risk of purchasing a block with inappropriate parameters. The larger indicator is always taken as the main value. If the wall thickness is 9 cm plus/minus 1.5 cm, then calmly buy a Euro-box that can be adjusted within 8-10 cm. For a wall of 9.7-10.0 cm, such a box will no longer be suitable; it is better to purchase a design with parameters 10-12 cm.

How to make doors with telescopic decorative trims with your own hands

First of all, it is important to choose the right material, since when making this kind of platbands, preference should be given to well-dried wood. Otherwise, the device installed in the doorway will fail over time.

Important! The degree of wood drying is determined by sound. To do this, simply tap the selected material lightly. If there is a muffled sound, the wood has not been dried well, and it is better not to purchase it. If the sound is clear, it means the wood has been dried correctly and is suitable for making decorative components.

When choosing wood, it is recommended to pay attention to the direct color of the material. If there are bluish spots on the surface, it means that the technology for drying the material is broken. But unscrupulous manufacturers sometimes hide such stains by painting.

You should not give preference to wood with knots. There is a possibility that the product will simply break at the location of the knot.

Advice from me

To summarize, I would like to say that overhead platbands are very popular. This can be explained by the fact that they are not expensive and everyone is used to them. However, in my opinion, the choice of telescopic slopes will be much more relevant. The possibilities that this type of cashing brings with it are much wider than with conventional slopes. Currently, there are many different models and materials from which they are made. Anyone can choose something for their interior.

Manufacturing

When the wood for making the product has been selected, they proceed to cutting the blanks. The actual dimensions of the workpieces should be determined in advance. Dimensions for each door device are selected individually.

When the decorative elements are ready, they are polished in two stages:

• Rough processing is performed using a grinding machine;
• Then comes manual processing using fine-grained sandpaper.

Manual processing involves removing circular scratches. When the platband is ready, it is coated with a protective compound.

Panel classification

Depending on the properties of the material and design features, there are different options for choosing a platband.

1. Decorative model. A plate approximately 6 cm wide will do.
2. Semicircular type. Width - 7 cm.
3. Curly plank. Dimensions depend on the complexity and geometry of the decor.

This is also worth considering so that it does not rest against a wall or furniture if the opening is located too close to the interior details. When buying a frame, you need to take into account that its size must be greater than the length of the box.
