The main decoration of the room are curtains. It is these decorative elements that highlight the uniqueness of each room. But it’s one thing to choose curtains for one large window, and completely different to design three window openings. But this arrangement of windows is found quite often in apartments. In this case, it is necessary to consider the color and texture of the material from which the curtains will be sewn. It is important to combine them with the overall design of the room.
Choosing curtains for three windows
Curtains in the living room
The design of a living room cannot be considered complete if the windows are not decorated with beautiful curtains. Three windows located side by side on the same wall should be decorated with the same textiles that will fit organically into the interior. Since the hall is the main room in any home, the atmosphere here should be cozy, formal and homely warm. Curtains play an important role in creating such an atmosphere. They should not transmit light from lanterns at night and sufficiently transmit sunlight during the daytime.
In order not to make a mistake in choosing curtains for the hall, it is recommended to use some tricks:
- For small living rooms, curtains that match the color of the walls would be an excellent choice. Moreover, the canvas should be monochromatic, or, in extreme cases, have a small floral pattern.
- If the room is spacious and the ceilings are high, you can decorate three windows located on one wall with heavy curtains with large patterns.
- In a room where there is little sunlight, window openings should be decorated with light, light fabrics. Curtains made of printed fabric look impressive in the interior of the hall, in the photo.
Fabric with a pattern - pitfalls when choosing and purchasing.
The task becomes more complicated if you choose fabric with a pattern.
Each drawing has its own report. A report is a repetition of a pattern on fabric vertically and horizontally.
To make the curtains look seamless and beautiful, you need to combine the pattern. This procedure requires buying more fabric so that the master can make the joining perfectly. For fabrics with a pattern, on average 2 or 3 reports are added to the total consumption, and for some prints this can be a whole meter.
Advice: check with the seller for the drawing report. Come to the fabric salon with all the window measurements so that the master can make a professional calculation: how much fabric to buy.
Original design option
Often, even in ordinary apartments, owners decorate window openings in a classic style. In this case, it is recommended to use silk, brocade, velvet fabric. Tulle with a printed pattern, lambrequins, and original garters in the form of bows will add solemnity to the room.
Curtains with a striped or checkered pattern will allow you to decorate the room in an urban style.
If the thickness of the walls allows, you can decorate three windows on one wall with a bay window. Roman blinds with colored lacing are ideal for this design. The Japanese version of the curtains, made of tulle fabric, looks good against the background of the bay window in the photo. In this case, Japanese panels may be slightly larger or identical in size to the window opening.
Which fabric to choose
What fabrics for curtains are not used in our modern times - these include silk, organza, linen, cotton, wool, synthetics and so on. The textures of materials also vary greatly - smooth and matte, printed, mesh, corrugated.
Curtains made from taffeta for a private home look especially stylish. This fabric looks so advantageous that there is no need to sew elaborate curtain styles; such textiles create volume in the curtains and a play of colors. The most advanced and popular are chameleon organza (it changes its colors depending on the angle of view of the observer) and silk. At the peak of fashion is high-tech organza, which is pierced with metallized threads that shimmer in the sun and under artificial lighting.

There is a growing interest in curtains made from expensive materials such as lavsan and wool, with impressive embroidery. Double lace tulle is also in great demand. Among synthetic types of curtains, viscose, which contains cotton and linen, surpasses other fabrics in terms of sales. Such fabrics make excellent draperies, and washing them is not difficult. Mesh never goes out of fashion; now aluminum threads are woven into them. Even in a private home, curtains can be selected from colored non-woven fabric, which, shimmering on the window, looks very much like fallen frost. If we consider natural fabrics for curtains, then linen is confidently ahead of others in this line of fabrics. In European countries, entire collections of linen curtains and accessories have now begun to be produced. Natural threads are complemented by synthetic ones; they make the fabric more delicate and flowing. Golden fibers in curtains for a private home will give the interior design a luxurious and presentable look.
Nowadays, crinkled tulle with a pattern resulting from exposure to acid can be called the rage of fashion. And the latest know-how in design delights are curtains with rubber knurling, forming an ornament. When combined with heavy curtains, this fabric produces images with a 3D effect.
If a country private house is furnished in high-tech style, it will be harmoniously decorated with curtains with geometric patterns. Homes decorated in the good old classic style ask for curtains with wide stripes, polka dots or with a floral pattern. Do not forget about the vulnerability of natural materials; curtains made of velvet or silk are afraid of sunlight. The lining on the inside will prevent them from fading, and will also add volume and fluffiness.
Curtains for the bedroom
In some apartments, the bedrooms are also equipped with three windows on one wall. But, since this room is intended for relaxation and privacy, the curtains on the windows should reliably hide from the sun's rays and prying eyes. Therefore, the material from which curtains are made must be dense.
In addition, the curtains in the bedroom should be made of a material that matches the interior design. Curtains, bedspreads and decorative pillows made in the same style look great next to each other.
If the morning sun's rays disturb your sleep, then three windows on one wall in the bedroom can be equipped with blinds. Combining them with French or Roman curtains, you can create an original option for decorating window openings.
For a small bedroom, you should not purchase lush models of curtains with lambrequins. It is better to opt for elegant monochromatic models, in the photo. In a wide room with a low ceiling, it is recommended to choose curtains for three windows with a vertical pattern.
Cornice
When decorating three windows in a room, remember that all elements must be the same. This applies not only to the texture, color and shape of the canvas, but also to the cornice. All windows in the room must have identical cornices. For bay windows, bendable plastic structures are purchased that allow curtains to be hung beautifully. For window openings of conventional design, profile or string cornices are suitable. Excellent design of the living room and bedroom, decorated with wooden cornice structures.
Thus, when decorating rooms where there are three windows, it is necessary to adhere to the unity of style and color. When choosing materials, take into account the dimensions of the room and the brightness of the lighting. For small rooms, not fluffy curtains made of airy fabric are recommended. If the living room or bedroom is spacious and there is enough light in it, then you can use velvet curtains with voluminous decorative trim.

At the end of our conversation about dream curtains, I want to express one thought.
You don’t have to hang curtains, you can replace them with wooden blinds, or with a roller blackout mounted on the window frame. You can completely abandon any method of closing yourself off from the light. But always remember about the climate in which you live, about banal coziness and comfort.
And remember that if you refused to decorate the windows with curtains, then their design should be made perfect during the renovation. No chips, uneven corners, sloppy joints of wallpaper and paint. Pay special attention to window sills and slopes. And then everything in your house will be 5 plus, not for the picture, but for your cool life.
I thank decorator Lira Shamsutdinova for her help in preparing the material and the interesting conversation about curtains.

If the windows are separated by narrow partitions in the corner, you can decorate them in the same way as in the previous case - with a single set of tulle and curtains, or decorate each opening separately, using two identical sets of curtains.
The main thing is not to focus attention on the corners: paintings, vases, armchairs, floor lamps and other small objects will distract attention from the main functional areas and it will seem as if they are here because there is not enough space for them anywhere else. It is better to furnish such spaces with furniture away from the walls.
