Two windows - two types of curtains
Designer Olga Chernenko made this bedroom in her own apartment, hence the bold decision to place the bed at the foot of the window. The very small bedroom has two windows, and this is a plus: the room is open to the outside. One of the windows is covered with a Roman blind, and the second with floor-length silk curtains. Different window decor adds variety and keeps you from getting bored.

Modern curtains in bedroom design
Today, the following types of curtains are very popular:
London ones. When such curtains are lifted, a beautiful fold is formed in the middle, and bows are formed on the sides. This season's trend is tartan with a floral pattern.
French. This type of curtain is made from silk or organza. They feature beautiful folds. The predominant style of application is Baroque.
Roman. A great option for small bedrooms. The window sill length allows for extra storage space.
With a bright pattern
And in this room, two types of curtains are combined on one window: Roman curtains with a bright modern pattern and thick beige curtains. Illuminated by natural light falling from the window, Roman blinds look like stained glass. A very comfortable solution for a bedroom where the bed is located with the head of the bed facing the window.

Conclusion
Despite the abundance of prohibitions and wishes, choosing the best option for decorating a window in a room with a shortage of space is not so difficult. The main thing is to adhere to the principle of minimalism, not be afraid of experiments, use your own imagination and not neglect the experience of professionals.
According to experts, a room does not seem so small if its design is constantly changing. You can buy two options for curtains and two options for tulle for one room (it is advisable that all pieces of fabric match each other). This will allow you to change the design of the window as the desire arises and use the free space in a new way.
Blackout curtains
Scandinavian design (and this bedroom has its features) loves uncovered windows (“We have nothing to hide”), but thick curtains are needed for a comfortable sleep. Plus, in our tradition, you still need to have something on the windows, even if there is a park behind them. So these light blocking curtains are quite a minimalist option.

Photos of stylish options for small windows
We have compiled material that will allow you to wisely choose fabrics for draping small windows. But, so that what was written was supported visually, we compiled a selection of photo ideas for curtain design.
Laconic solution
Draperies and tulle placed under a suspended ceiling made of plasterboard are a laconic and discreet version of the decor of a man’s bedroom. The colors chosen are classic – rich beige and white. Nothing extra – just like in a comfortable hotel.

Country style
True rustic style involves using only natural colors and materials - in this case, curtains were no exception. Designers use three main fabrics - cotton, linen and chintz. Their simplicity and conciseness are ideal for this style.
Country is used in cases other than minimalism. They are hung on windows to complement the overall interior, filled with living vegetation, bright and rich flowers, and perfectly highlight furniture and accessories made of natural wood.
Drawings on a white background can be very diverse - berries, fruits and flowers. Despite the length of the curtains, the lightness of the fabric used allows them to be used even on the smallest windows.
Fashionable pearl
Pearl shades in decor are a very fashionable theme today. This is perhaps the most sophisticated color in the pastel palette that is so relevant today. Curtains made of thick silk, falling in even folds, look like a decoration of the room. The neoclassical cornice, behind which the curtains are drawn, supports the overall style of the interior.

Roman curtains
Even in Ancient Rome, they were used as decoration and addition to the interior of the imperial halls and chambers of wealthy Romans. The wide range of applications and versatility of fasteners ensure their wide popularity in the modern world.
The technical design of Roman blinds ensures simplicity and versatility of use. They are a rectangular sheet of fabric through which a rope is stretched lengthwise. Using manual force or an automatic drive, it is possible to adjust their height. At the same time, they are folded into rectangles of the same size.
Despite the simplicity of their design, they help to stylishly decorate a small window that often needs to be opened or closed with a curtain - in the kitchen, bathroom or living room. Versatility of use is provided by various fixation methods - they can be attached to the ceiling, to the cornice or to the top of the window frame.
To transmit light, it is recommended to use Roman blinds made of light, transparent, but at the same time rigid fabric. In this case, the volume of material required is much less than when sewing classic curtains.
6.Turquoise and berry
Turquoise and berry shades are companion colors that create an emotional couple. However, in order to reduce the degree of emotionality, decorators advise diluting them with one of the neutral shades, such as beige. The design of the curtains combines all 3 colors, and the narrow mirror by the window creates the illusion that the room is larger than it actually is.

Examples of designing small windows in a private house
An interesting solution for two small windows located side by side. Mirror design looks creative.
If the wallpaper in the kitchen has a pattern, the curtain should be plain and vice versa.
A curtain made of two canvases with the same print is a comfortable and cozy design in a country house.
Using a cornice, you can visually add a couple of centimeters to the height of the ceiling.
In this case, it is not the window that attracts attention, but the peach curtains.
Light curtains are considered a win-win option.
As you can see, window size is not a problem. A competent combination of fabrics, the right choice of model and the desire to create a creative element will help to “color” any design solution.
As a result, even a small room will become very cozy and comfortable.
Wide stripes
Wide horizontal stripes running along the top or bottom of the canvas are a fashionable version of stripes. Here are classic beige and milky. And the “sun” is added by a yellow sofa by the window and a blanket.
The plane of the window sill is used creatively: porcelain figurines are displayed on it in a row. In this context, the watering can looks like an art object.

Nuances of choosing textiles
We always strive to enlarge a small bedroom or living room with the help of textiles and wallpaper, to visually expand the existing boundaries of the room, and a small window also often confuses us and we want to enlarge it. Properly selected curtains will help with this. We have already talked about specific models, it’s time to discuss the details, and specifically the choice of color for curtains for a non-standard size window.
Of course, if we strive to visually expand the window opening, then it is wise to use light-colored fabrics with a light texture. Natural fibers always win with their simplicity and elegance. If you love patterned fabrics, or the interior needs them so much, then choose small floral designs, or geometric and monogram patterns. A small window should not fill the entire space; it is better to remain to the side and barely noticeable if you do not want to overload the interior.
Light airy curtains visually enlarge a compact window
Horizontal stripes on Roman or English blinds are another way to visually expand the window frame. But remember: dark colors thicken, and light colors expand.
Horizontal stripes visually expand the walls and increase the space
Bright floor-length models will highlight the non-standard window and emphasize the still unpresentable size. If you don’t want such an unpleasant look, then choose plain fabrics for long curtains on a small window. Save bright colors for curtains.
Print: geometry
This small bedroom has wallpaper with a dense floral pattern, painted surfaces, and curtains with a light and airy geometric print. Thanks to the elegance of this pattern, there is no feeling of overload with decor.

In what color can it be decorated?
The ideal curtains for a small bedroom are light.
- White. A classic universal shade, the main disadvantage of which is its absolute lack of protection from the sun. Exception: white blackouts.
- Warm. Beige, pastel yellow, orange. They will fill the bedroom with sun, comfort, and warmth.
- Cold. Grey, blue, green, pink, lilac. They look fresh, promote relaxation and rest.
The photo shows minimalist white curtains
Bright shades of curtains are not suitable for either a large or a small sleeping room. They are too active, interfere with relaxation, and negatively affect the quality of sleep and rest.
If you need an accent, choose moderately dark shades. That is, not black, but graphite. Not dark chocolate, but cappuccino. Not blue-black, but azure or indigo. Dark curtains covering the entire wall on the narrow side in an elongated bedroom will visually make it more square and give it the correct shape.
The choice of fabric shade for windows is influenced by the color of the walls. The combinations look harmonious:
- one color, but a couple of shades darker or lighter;
- light curtains with a pattern to match the walls;
- plain curtains to match the background of wallpaper with a pattern.
Velvet curtains
The style of this bedroom is classic, which is why curtains made of marsh-colored velvet, trimmed with a border with a Greek wave, look so organic here. The fastening is covered with an elegant bandeau, trimmed with the same fabric.

Design
This is an important component, which is why it is recommended to browse the catalog by interior styles. For example, Art Nouveau is characterized by smooth lines and soft colors. High-tech involves innovative technologies, clarity and gloss, while classic allows curtains to be voluminous.
Each style has important features that must be taken into account when choosing curtains. Only then can you achieve an ideal result. The same minimalism is quite capricious for the bedroom. Here you cannot use a lot of fabric, too provocative shades and prints. Everything should be as concise, simple and understandable as possible. Therefore, either evenly hanging short curtains with slats in one layer, or the Japanese version, are suitable.
For a round window
A porthole window is a decorative element in itself, but the question arises, which curtain to choose? You can, for example, run an arched cornice along the upper arc of the window and hang translucent curtains on it. Or you can cover the window with an elegant French curtain, like here.
Toile de Jouy is a classic type of ornament. Here he is responsible for the stylistic component of this interior: Vivat, France! It is repeated in curtains and furniture upholstery.

Material
There is also an important recommendation regarding the choice of material. Give preference to natural and only natural fabrics. In general, it is not advisable to use any polymers in the bedroom; we choose only natural ingredients. Therefore, fabrics should be light and natural. This applies to any curtain design.
If you want to use blinds, let them be made of wood or bamboo. Modern blinds can be used in bedrooms. But they are good in cases where the windows face the sunny side and the sun lives in your room almost all day long in good weather. In all other cases, it is better not to use blinds or keep them constantly open.
But according to this principle, translucent roller blinds will be good. They let in a certain amount of light, but will not turn a small room into a cellar. And natural fabric will provide enough air.
Thick draperies
The bay window in the bedroom can be completely draped with curtains: this will create an atmosphere of comfort and security. The main thing is to choose a light-colored fabric that fits well into the folds: the room will seem larger. However, for those who want to achieve a “cave” or “cocoon” effect in the bedroom, you can also use dark colors - it’s a matter of taste.

Arrangement of a small bedroom
Curtains for a small bedroom, which also has small windows, should be chosen especially carefully. Little design tricks and some expert advice will help you do this.
Most bedrooms in modern high-rise apartment buildings really don't offer much space. Living in them, people are forced to abandon large-sized walls, cabinets and furniture. There is one more point that should be taken into account when arranging a room. This is a small window, and you are faced with a difficult task - to visually make it larger, because this will make the bedroom seem more spacious. To make a small window, and with it a small bedroom, appear larger, choose light-colored, preferably plain, curtains. The entire room should be kept in a light color scheme - walls, furniture, and floor coverings. The only thing you should avoid is decorating the room in one tone.
When designing the interior of a small bedroom, you should not use a large amount of fabric. Layering, ruffles and frills are something that should not be in a small room. Opt for modest and discreet window curtains.
Striped curtains also look good, but then such elements should be wide enough so that they do not make the window even smaller. If your bedroom ceilings are low, place the cornice at the very top of the wall to make them appear higher.
If you are looking for original curtains for your bedroom, pay attention to curtains with loops. You can decorate the windows in the recreation room with curtains with loops made of fabric that are placed on the cornice. Light translucent fabric looks best in this design.
If you have a non-standard bedroom design, you can also use hourglass models. Curtains look like separate panels, stretched from the bottom and top, and gathered in the middle with a ribbon, bow or fabric. This curtain design is suitable for those who want to add elegance and originality to the room.
Drawing
If ornament is an integral part of your interior, then choose fabrics for curtains with small floral or berry patterns. You can also choose discreet ornaments and small patterns.
The main condition is that all applied images should not stand out too much from the main background of the canvas. For example, these could be beige curtains with coffee-colored flowers.
