Round PVC windows: glazing on the verge of fantasy (Part 1)

Round PVC windows available in the market today are extremely elegant and stylish, making them attractive even to the most hardened aesthetes. Moreover, such unusual windows provide endless decorative possibilities and will harmoniously fit into any interior, including non-standard and small-sized rooms, reports the WINDOWS MEDIA portal.

Who said that a window can only have corners? Round windows are an exception in construction, but they make a lasting impression not only inside the building, but also outside. They create a fantasy, surreal atmosphere, divorced from reality.

Circle magic

The circle is a mythological symbol of harmony. Oval shapes are better for people, both spatially and in terms of perception, because in nature there are very few objects that are square in shape or formed entirely from straight lines. The circle, as an ideally shaped figure, is associated with improvement and completeness.

Psychologists assure that a person who prefers round windows is sincerely interested in good, warm interpersonal relationships. For him, the highest value is people and their well-being.

The magical effect of the circle, as practice shows, is expressed in strengthening relationships, both in the work team and in the family, bringing warmth and comfort, love and harmony into the room. That is why round windows work best in rooms that are characterized by large crowds of people - in the kitchen, living room, children's room, and also in banquet halls.

Such windows make the interior of the room brighter, lighter and more memorable. Round windows will fit perfectly into the atmosphere of geometrically strict interiors, but will be especially good for marine-style rooms. To do this, it is enough to install several small windows next to each other so that an ordinary home space turns into a ship's cabin.

Where can they be installed?

The round shape of the opening fits perfectly into the design of private houses, country buildings, summer cottages and mansions. There is no fundamental difference in which place in the house the round window unit will be installed :

  1. The element looks good in the upper part of the building - in the attic or gable.
    This allows you to provide natural light in the attic or attic room and emphasize the shape of the roof.

  2. Another location option is the ground floor. Here the round design will improve the appearance of the facade and make the room brighter.
  3. Partitions between rooms. Interior partitions are also often decorated with round, blind-type products. This design solution improves the lighting and comfort of adjacent rooms.
  4. Bathroom. This option for placing the structure requires the installation of a window with a layout. Glazing should be done with frosted or opaque glass or stained glass.

Important! The round shape is an ideal solution for small rooms.

Installation of round shapes in multi-storey buildings is not recommended.

From roses to round plastic windows

The round window is a favorite form of the architectural styles of Rococo, Baroque, Gothic, as well as the “Naryshkin Baroque”. These windows became especially famous in Romanesque and Gothic buildings of the 12th - 15th centuries. The presence of a stone binding in the form of radial rays that emanate from the central circle evoked an association with a flower. This is what they owe to their poetic name - rose.

The first round windows in Europe appeared in the 13th century and were typical for the houses of the aristocracy, wealthy burghers and clergy. Wooden frames of unusual shapes combined with ornate glass or stained glass were very expensive back then and quickly became a measure of high social status and good taste.

In Russia, the Baroque style established itself at the end of the 17th - in the first half of the 18th century. This characteristic style of Russian, rather Moscow, architecture, which combined the traditions of ancient Russian architecture and new features of European architecture, was called “Naryshkin Baroque”, and the round windows received a white stone frame.

Today, round windows are popular among people who want their home to have a touch of modern extravagance. Circle-shaped window frames are an ideal way to break up the rectangular body of a building and offset its strict lines. It is worth noting that round PVC windows are now available in a variety of colors, so that the user can choose the option that best suits the mood of his interiors.

Advantages and disadvantages

The functionality of non-standard products is no different from rectangular ones. But they have their advantages :

  • high-level aesthetic characteristics;
  • production according to individual sizes, which increases the quality of installation;
  • large selection of profile finishes;
  • weather resistance;
  • the ability to decorate complex parts of the building;
  • the original shape gives the interior a unique identity.

Minuses:

  • increase in price due to the complexity of manufacturing the mold;
  • time costs for manufacturing and installation;
  • difficulty in taking measurements.

Note. If all technological requirements are met, round products are durable and environmentally friendly.

Round PVC windows: aesthetics bordering on fantasy

When choosing plastic windows, a modern user usually pays great attention to their reliability and functionality, as well as color. In terms of shape, most homeowners stick to standard solutions and prefer rectangular windows.

If you want to let your imagination run wild when designing a new home, you can look to fairy tale wooden houses or hobbits for inspiration, where a round window is standard. According to Ronald Ruel Tolkien, it is round windows and doors that are the leading feature of ancient Hobbit architecture.

Round PVC windows available in the market today are extremely elegant and stylish, making them attractive even to the most hardened aesthetes. Moreover, such unusual windows provide endless decorative possibilities.

Moreover, they will harmoniously fit into any interior: both in the living room or bedroom, and in the attic, which will help to illuminate effectively. Round window frames will also provide an interesting decoration for a hallway, kitchen or bathroom. In addition, round windows can be given a more personal character with stylish window handles or bars.

Round windows will look very organic on the facade in combination with arched windows.

Blind or opening windows

Since the vast majority of these models are made to order, the client can independently determine the opening method. Usually the choice is made from 4 options:

  1. Blind
    - this design eliminates the possibility of opening the window. When using this technology, double-glazed windows are inserted into frames and pressed with glazing beads. This glazing method is chosen in cases where a room with a round window has other sources of fresh air.
  2. With opening sashes
    - to implement this method, the window is divided into separate segments by vertical and horizontal imposts. The most common option is dividing it into 4 parts by perpendicular jumpers. In this case, the active elements of the window have the shape of a quarter circle.
  3. With an opening top or bottom
    - windows of this type are functionally reminiscent of transom models, in which the sashes are tilted or raised in a vertical plane. To ensure this method of opening, the internal clearance is divided by a horizontal impost.
  4. Middle-hung
    - this technology is based on the rotation of the active sash around its axis. Depending on the attachment points of the fittings, such windows can open in a vertical or horizontal plane. During movement, the sash can rotate 180°. To ensure safe operation of mid-mounted models, the fittings are additionally equipped with special braking devices. With their help, the movement of the active leaf is controlled.

When considering the functional characteristics of models with opening doors, it is recommended to focus on the data from the table.

Opening typeIndividual characteristics
With opening top or bottom of the windowThey allow you to ventilate rooms and, thanks to the additional jumper, have increased rigidity. However, during operation it is not always convenient to lower or raise the active sash. Also, with a large structure, it may be difficult to access the entire outer part of the glass unit when washing windows.
With swing doorsThis round window functions almost the same as a regular rectangular model. The number of active sashes is determined by the customer. It is possible to integrate rectangular vents into a round structure. It should be taken into account that a large number of vertical or horizontal imposts reduces the light transmittance of windows. If there is an insufficient number of active sashes and their small sizes, access to the outer part of the double-glazed windows is difficult.
Mid-suspendedA convenient model that allows you to easily ventilate the premises and wash the double-glazed windows. Thanks to the improved fittings, even large doors move easily when opened. Such models provide ideal air circulation when ventilating rooms.

If you decide to choose a model without active sashes, you must take into account that blind structures can only be washed from the reverse side. It is also undesirable to make a round dormer window blind - read more about this on OknaTrade.

Round PVC windows: functionality bordering on fantasy

There is a belief that circle-shaped windows owe their popularity only to aesthetic considerations. Meanwhile, round PVC windows are not only very elegant, but also functional. Thanks to innovative technologies in the production of PVC windows, there is no good reason not to deviate from the usual scheme and choose an unconventional design. Elegant and functional, round windows are proof that the results are worth it.

A particularly important issue here is the possibility of full-axis tilt. This option makes it possible to use the window more conveniently, and maintaining it will require much less effort. Moreover, modern round windows are characterized by very high quality and precision of execution, and their installation process guarantees stability and reliability.

Installation features

Installation of a round structure is carried out in the same sequence as standard-shaped windows:

  • taking measurements and filling out an application for production;
  • dismantling the old structure, if necessary;
  • cleaning openings;
  • installation of a new product.

First remove glazing beads, fittings and double-glazed windows. There is no need to remove the handle on the opening window!

Attach the frame with diameter anchors in four places - top, bottom and sides. The anchors should not be tightened tightly to prevent the profile from bending . Then assemble the double-glazed window and check the functionality of the window with opening sashes. Finally, draw up the slopes and install all the removed elements.

But it is not advisable to install such products yourself. This is due to the fact that it is very difficult to achieve a tight fit of the structure to the wall without the appropriate knowledge of technology and equipment. As a result, you can get distortions, heat loss and drafts.
