Semi-warm glazing of balconies and loggias Slidors

March 21, 2014

Insulating a house is no longer limited to replacing old windows with modern double-glazed windows. Relatively recently, sliding systems appeared on the market, which offered the population a new fun - glazing of balconies. People eagerly began to convert this “additional living space,” often without fully realizing why they were doing it and what the end result would be.

The key feature of sliding systems is practicality. Unlike hinged chamber profiles, sliding ones save a lot of space and are literally designed for converting balconies and loggias. The most widely used sliding windows are Sliders, as well as the Provedal

. The first option is more popular, so let's talk about it.

Why slidors is suitable for Russia

Slidors is a sliding profile made of economy class plastic. To make it clearer, it is something average in quality and characteristics between the KBE plastic profile and the provenal aluminum profile. That is, it is lighter than the first and warmer than the second. True, it also has a minus. It is not warm enough for an apartment or office, because it belongs to cold-warm glazing. Therefore, they are used to glaze non-residential premises, including balconies and loggias.

In the material “Glazing with cold profiles” you will learn more about the heat-shielding properties of the Slidors profile. And also: what other profiles are classified as cold glazing and how much do they cost.

If you are going to glaze your balcony for the first time, you may need permission. In what cases you need to receive it and where to go for this, see the link: https://oknanagoda.com/balkony-lodzhii/yuridicheskie-voprosy/razresheniye-na-ostekleniye.html

However, when Slidors arrived to us from South Korea, Russians literally immediately fell in love with it. And that's why.

Advantages of the slidors profile:

>1. Like any profile, it will protect your balcony from noise, dirt and dust. However, it will do it better than aluminum. The reason for this is brush seals with an additional plastic gasket, which are installed between the section and the profile on both sides.>2. Another feature of the Sliders profile is that it is suitable for absolutely any window on your balcony - be it 2 meters high or oval-shaped. Of all the profiles, only this one is capable of such “tricks”.

Slidors are used for glazing gazebos, verandas, etc.

The Slidors plastic profile looks nicer than the aluminum profile

Slidors has doors even of such impressive sizes

>3. Another advantage of the system is that the doors can slide apart in any order. At the same time, you can make several of them static. And thanks to the unique sliding mechanism, the windows will not freeze even in the most terrible frost. And you can open them without difficulty.>4. Slidors will protect your home from thieves and mosquitoes. A reliable crescent-shaped lock and a filing piece (a plastic element between the doors) will prevent burglars from getting inside, and a mosquito net will prevent mosquitoes. That's not all: the mosquito net moves freely across the entire window area on an additional rail.>5. The profile, if desired, is laminated with colored film. Therefore, if you prefer wood in appearance, you can take wood-colored sliders - it will turn out just as beautiful, but cheaper.>6. Plastic profiles always protect better from the cold compared to aluminum ones.

Provedal or Slidors?

Despite the large number of manufacturing companies, the choice of profile for glazing a loggia or balcony can be reduced to one question: Provedal or Slidors? Both profiles are convenient to use in confined spaces, both profiles are in the same price category, although, as a rule, Sliders sliding windows are somewhat more expensive. It all depends on the manufacturer and installation prices.

Reviews from buyers and sellers about aluminum profiles are contradictory. Compared to Slidors, Provedal pleases with its durability (unlike plastic, aluminum does not turn yellow or deform). On the other hand, there is the problem of freezing of the sashes during the cold season.

The main differences between the two systems can be seen in this table

Peculiarities Slidors Provedal
Ease of use Convenient sliding design, ergonomics Convenient sliding design, ergonomics
Possibilities Combination with hinged profiles, possibility of manufacturing arched structures Using only “your own” MS, bay windows and other connections
Reliability High rail prevents the sash from freezing High probability of freezing of sashes and seals
Security Crescent locks protect against burglary and work in any conditions Locks can freeze
Thermal insulation High coefficient of heat transfer resistance Low thermal insulation, presence of “cold bridges”

The technical characteristics of both profiles are largely similar. The only really important difference is the heat transfer resistance coefficient. For Sliders it is 0.15 m² C/W for one glass and 0.33 m² C/W for a single-chamber double-glazed window. Provedal has a coefficient of 0.07 m² C/W, that is, it is at least two times lower.

In this regard, sliding plastic windows, of course, look more attractive. At the same time, we should not forget that sliding systems are used not only for glazing balconies. The same Provedal, for example, is very popular when equipping interior partitions, so here a lot depends on where exactly you mount the profile.

    Sun splashes on your window

    One of our customers told us that her little son, opening his eyes in the morning and looking at the window into which the sun was peeping, shouted joyfully: “Look, the sun is splashing on the window!” It turns out that this is what he called the reflections of the sun that jump across the glass as a result of the sun's rays hitting the beveli, scattered across the film stained glass window, forming a sparkling composition. We were touched by the accuracy of children's perception - after all, the sunny splashes on the edges of the crystal elements really look like cheerful sparkling splashes that fill the room with restless sunbeams.

Slidor profile device

The main feature of the slidors profile is that it is reinforced with metal. Reinforcement occurs as follows: a metal frame is inserted into the main – plastic – profile, which gives strength to the entire structure. So you don’t have to worry that it will bend under strong winds or other impacts.

Components of the Sliders system

This profile opens according to the principle of a sliding wardrobe - the sections move along tracks on rollers. True, there are also static sashes, which, as mentioned earlier, can be alternated with moving ones in absolutely any order.

As for glazing, you can install either a single pane of glass (3 to 6 mm thick) or a single glazed unit with a width of 14 mm. What is best for you is up to you to decide. But if you want a warmer atmosphere on the balcony, then choose double-glazed windows. Its heat transfer resistance is 3-3.5 times higher than that of glass alone.

Prices for slidors glazing

Surprisingly, for all its advantages, slidors are slightly more expensive than aluminum ones. The price of a three-leaf profile (3000/1500 meters) in Moscow is 22-25 thousand rubles. This is if there is one glass, with double glazed windows - 4 thousand more expensive. The price already includes delivery, installation, and various canopies with ebbs. And if you install the profile yourself, it will be 2 times cheaper!

Installation features of the slidors system

Installation of slidors is quite easy - with a screwdriver and a screwdriver. But in practice, few people undertake to install it themselves - they call specialists. On the one hand, this is quite logical, because the master is a master because he knows all the features of the installation. On the other hand, he sometimes needs an eye and an eye. To prevent your eyes from overlooking anything, we will give some tips .

>Firstly, you can glaze a balcony with the Sliders profile at temperatures as low as minus 15 degrees! In winter, before installation, the profile is kept warm up to plus 20°C - so that it does not crack in the cold while it is being installed.>Secondly, from 2 to 4 rollers are installed per section. Moreover, the load on each person should not exceed 40 kg. So take an interest in how much one section weighs and how many rollers it will have to ride on.

Sliders windows refresh the balcony

>Thirdly, after completing installation, check that all the necessary parts are in place. Namely: covers on the doors where they meet; filingpis on the frame at the bottom and top at the junction of the sashes and at the corners; brush (on the frame) and rubber (on the glass) seals. As well as a crescent-shaped lock and fastening for it.> Fourthly, there should be oval-shaped drain holes in the lower horizontal profile of the frame. At the interval of one section there are at least two such holes. Check this too.>Fifthly, don’t worry if the doors open with a little effort. It is much more important that they do not jam and move smoothly. Also, sickle-shaped locks will close with force (but with more force). Over time, the whole system will develop.

The purpose of semi-warm glazing, its pros and cons

If you are going to set up a gym, office, or bedroom on the balcony space, you will need warm glazing to create the most comfortable environment. But for a small greenhouse and storage of household items, semi-warm glazing is quite suitable.

Advantages of semi-warm glazing

  • Lightweight The design is made of a single-chamber profile, which makes its weight lighter. Therefore, semi-warm glazing is recommended for balcony slabs that cannot withstand high static loads;
  • No fogging Windows on the loggia will not fog up, because the double-glazed window consists of two glasses. Between them there is a spacer frame with a desiccant that absorbs moisture. In addition, the double-glazed window is insulated along the contour with a double sealing layer;
  • Burglary protection is provided by a reliable locking system.
  • Elimination of drafts and leaks A high-quality brush seal will allow the sashes to fit snugly in the corners of the frame and in the locking areas. Therefore, drafts, water leakage, penetration of dust and noise are excluded;
  • Additional space The small installation depth of the profile will allow you to save more useful balcony space;
  • Low cost The cost of work will be much lower than with warm glazing.

There is only one drawback - it is impossible to provide complete comfort.
