Original design of openings - blinds and roller shutters

The modern abundance of planning solutions allows you to move away as much as possible from faceless, typical interiors, and the variety of materials and technologies makes it possible to decorate an apartment or house in any style you like. The design of openings – not only windows, but also doors – also plays an important role in creating a certain image. Also, due to the popularity of maximally open studio spaces, much attention is paid to space zoning. One of the best ways to combine functionality with high decorativeness is to use blinds instead of a door leaf or as a kind of screen dividing a room.

Characteristics of blinds and their varieties

It is immediately worth noting that blinds are not full-fledged doors, that is, they cannot fully replace them. This is a type of partition. If you still want to use them as a door with all the functions, then you can combine them with a regular leaf, preferably glass.

Now blind structures are offered in various configurations, among which the following stand out:

  1. Vertical, which are a classic version of the office type. The slats are located vertically; they can be moved to the side using a special mechanism.

  2. Horizontal is the same familiar design, which has been popular for use on windows for a long time. If the slats are made of metal, then such blinds completely replace the door leaf.

  3. String - thread-type blinds that serve more of a decorative function and protect from direct sunlight.

  4. An accordion is an excellent design option for a doorway. They can be called an analogue of an accordion door, but with a smooth movement mechanism.

  5. Roller shutters are also an ideal solution if you need to replace a door. They consist of horizontal elements that move along guides, thanks to which you can easily fix the desired lift or completely close the blinds.

Interior doors with the effect of blinds stand out especially. They represent a frame, inside of which horizontally located lamellas are installed. They look very advantageous and refresh the design. They fit especially harmoniously if the room has cabinets with doors of the same design. Such models are made from various materials, including polymers, wood, metal and others.

Possible opening methods

Louvered cabinets, produced by the furniture factory "Mobius", can be with different opening systems:

  1. Swing. The traditional and most popular version. The doors can occupy the entire height of the structure or be divided into several small ones. Thus, a hinged wardrobe can contain many sections, adapted for storing various wardrobe items.
  2. Accordion doors. The doors move along a special rail, carefully gathering to the sides like an accordion. An excellent option for small rooms; no free space is required to open swing doors.
  3. Coupe. Combines high style and functionality. The doors move along guides, ensuring convenient use of all internal compartments.

Why are blinds instead of doors so popular?

In the interiors of both an apartment and a house, using blinds on a doorway can be a very interesting idea, which, among other things, has many advantages:

  • Light weight, thanks to which the structure will not burden ceilings and walls.
  • Originality and uniqueness of appearance compared to conventional canvases.
  • Unobtrusiveness and freeing up space. They do not take up much space, and if necessary, they can be completely raised or completely dismantled without deteriorating the appearance of the opening.
  • The ability to zone a room by installing a structure in the form of a partition.

But not every interior has blinds on doorways. Many are simply afraid to install them, since the designs have a list of disadvantages:

  • Low level of sound insulation. No blinds can provide the same protection from external noise as conventional door leaves. In addition, even with the help of seals it will be difficult to change the situation.
  • Less reliability. Over time, any product model, as well as its mechanisms, become unusable and lose not only their quality characteristics, but also their original appearance.
  • Difficult care. Slats can sometimes be quite difficult to clean from dust and dirt, which cannot be said about a regular door, which can be washed without difficulty.
  • Inability to protect the premises. In some cases, a reliable structure is required that will protect the room from outside penetration. Blinds cannot perform such a function, with the exception of roller shutters, which can protect to some extent.

Important! It is worth remembering that not every interior style will have louvered doors look laconic.

Design Features

The operating principle of door blinds is no different from the operation of window systems. Several plates connected by a common guide or thread can be assembled, opening the view, or can be straightened out and laid parallel to the glass or plastic. The room becomes unlit, fenced off from the outside space.

Based on the design:

  1. set of plates;
  2. connecting element for plate system;
  3. guide;
  4. thread or rope for control;
  5. control element.

How can blinds fit into a room?

When placing blinds in a doorway, you should carefully consider the choice of design of the canvas and its placement relative to other objects in the interior. So, depending on the placement, the following options are distinguished:

  1. Structures instead of interior doors and partitions. This is an excellent choice for rooms that do not require permanent insulation, such as the living room. A louvered partition will help out when combining a kitchen and a living room or a toilet with a bathroom.
  2. Blinds for the balcony. Provided that the balcony room is fully insulated and glazed, you can install such a canvas as a design for a balcony doorway. At the same time, when the partition is raised, the space will increase, and in the balcony room it is quite possible to make an office or a small corner for relaxation.

  3. Blind structures for the storage room. This option is the most common due to the fact that the blinds do not overload the interior and allow air to pass through perfectly, which allows you to create the correct microclimate for things in the pantry.
  4. Combination with door. Often this combination is found to decorate the external entrance to shops and institutions. In an apartment, this would not be very appropriate, unless the door leaf has glass inserts and the blinds are of lightweight construction.

Kinds

According to the location of the panels, sun protection devices are:

  • Vertical - have long been established in offices, but have also found application in residential buildings thanks to variations in color, material, and patterns. The structure consists of a cornice (plastic or aluminum), slats, weights, and runners. The mechanism is controlled using a plastic chain: the doors rotate in different directions, and the canvas can be completely moved to one side. For a balcony opening, choose a combination of a long leaf for the door and a short one for the window. The cornice is attached to the ceiling or wall.

  • Horizontal - a more suitable model for a balcony block. The design can be mounted on a window frame, which provides much more convenience when opening and closing doors and windows. To go out onto the loggia you don’t need to move the curtain to the side. Horizontal slats (plastic, aluminum, wood) rotate up and down, and the entire canvas is rolled up if necessary. Often included are limiters that secure the structure from below. Thanks to this, the canvas does not dangle when ventilating or when the window is tilted. Limiters can be magnetic or plastic.

Blinds also include roller blinds for the balcony door. They have all the advantages of horizontal blinds. They are a canvas with a roller and a control chain. Once assembled, the fabric is wound onto a roller. The degree of lowering is adjustable: you can close the entire opening or partially. Roller blinds are attached to the wall, ceiling, frame. The last option is the most preferable, since it allows you to save space by the window.

The canvas has different colors and patterns, but rarely the opening is decorated only with roller blinds. Thin curtains are selected for them.

There is another type - pleated. Such products consist of two profiles, which are mounted on guides at the top and bottom of the frame, and a folded fabric is fixed between them. Unlike the models described above, the pleated can be folded not only up, but also down. The canvas moves freely and is fixed in any part of the window.

Materials for making blinds

Door blinds can be made from various materials. So, for a specific interior, an option that will be appropriate in design can be selected. Let's consider all the known options for blinds:

  • With aluminum slats. Such structures help to darken the room and are full-fledged partitions. They have a long service life due to the sufficient level of rigidity and reliability of the material.

Important! Aluminum products can act as a door even in rooms where humidity levels are high.

  • Blinds are made of plastic, which are usually made of opaque colored material. They are also quite strong and durable and easy to maintain. With the help of such designs, you can decorate the interior in accordance with the imagination and taste of the owner.
  • With wooden slats. Such options refer to luxurious interior items, which immediately make the exterior more majestic and more expensive. For dilution, you can use designs that have glass inserts.

  • Metal blinds are an ideal option for decorating a street door. They are rarely used inside the house, and there is no particular need for it.
  • Fabric blinds are a familiar type that was previously used only on windows, but now can also decorate doors. It is lightweight, but if dirt gets on the surface, you will have to make an effort to clean the fabric.

The main advantages of the blind cabinet:

  • exclusive look;
  • natural air circulation;
  • ideal for regions with high humidity;
  • wide selection of colors and designs;
  • equipped with any opening system;
  • can be used in damp areas.

Cabinets with louvered fronts are visually light and aesthetically pleasing. The design of impressive dimensions with louvered facades will look light and elegant. Due to the lamellas that transmit light, a weightless effect is created.

Sizes and colors

Typically, blinds are selected to fit the size of a standard interior door. If the doorways in the house are impressive or very small in size, and also have an original shape, then the product can be made to order.

Blinds are installed directly into or onto the opening. In the first case, it is important to take correct measurements before ordering so that the partition fits perfectly inside.

As for the color design of door shutter structures, there are no restrictions. Now manufacturers offer a lot of different shades of lamellas, among which it is easy to choose the one that suits the style and design.

For example, a room made in light colors requires the installation of a partition in the doorway in white, powdery, cream, pistachio or other calm tones. Modern interiors involve the use of brighter colors.

To add originality to the interior, you can install plain blinds with a pattern printed on them in the opening. Products that combine several colors look very attractive. As combining shades, you can choose white and peach, brown and beige, blue and lemon or green. Classic – black and white. The children's room can be decorated with multi-colored blinds with photo printing, for example, with cartoon characters or idols.
