Blinds and curtains with a window closing mechanism from bottom to top

The ability to open roller blinds from the bottom up allows you to equip windows with complex designs (for example, inclined ones) with such light-protection systems. The installation technology is no different from installing simple roller blinds with top placement: there are models for fixing with screws, and for fastening without perforation.

This is what roller blinds look like.

Manufacturers supply the market with a full range of materials for this type of curtain, including fabrics with maximum reflection of light flux (blackout), for its dispersion (dimout), as well as combined fabrics (Day-Night).

The principle of operation of roller blinds from bottom to top

The main difference from roller blinds that close from top to bottom is the mandatory presence of a spring-inertial mechanism (PIM) installed on the shaft of the product. It allows you to fix and wind up the fabric during operation.

The second difference in the design is the special arrangement of the strip on the free edge of the canvas (finishing strip). In a top-down system, this part acts as a weighting agent and helps straighten the canvas. When closing the curtain from bottom to top, the bar becomes an additional clamp that holds the curtain at a given height. To roll the curtains, you need to release the bar by slightly moving the handle installed on it.

There are also changes in the design of the guide profiles. The side parts inside have additional runners in which the spring bar is fixed.

The basic principles of installation of side profiles do not differ from the installation of those in top-mounted cassette-type systems:

  • UNI-2 are more common and are mounted on the frame near the glass or on the entire opening;
  • UNI-1 are compact and can be installed between glazing beads.

In the latter case, it is possible to install it in the middle of the light opening in order to cover only part of the glass on a large window.

Spring/handle control

The most popular technique for adjusting roller blinds is spring. When you move the bar by the handle, the stops are unlocked. Then, when the cornice is set to the desired height and the arm is lowered, the stops fix the structure in the guides in the specified position. The spring-loaded shaft here guarantees the tension of the canvas. Rope control is less convenient (the cord is threaded through the loops of the moving part and, after being pulled to the planned level, is fixed with Velcro or hooks). The use of hooks installed instead of holders of the fixing part as it rises has almost ceased to be used.

Advantages of this type of roller blinds

Products that can be closed from bottom to top have a number of advantages over other models of roller blinds. The main advantage can be appreciated by residents of lower floors and private houses. Cassette blinds and blinds, equipped with mechanisms for moving the canvas from bottom to top, allow you to block the view of the room from the street, but leave the upper parts of the windows or glazing of the first floor balcony open.

In addition, there are other advantages of a system with a lower shaft arrangement:

  1. Convenient care of the surface of the box. Light plastic has to be wiped down frequently, and with the bottom mounting there is no need to use a chair or stepladder when cleaning.
  2. Availability of level clamp. When you set the curtain to the desired position, the rising curtain will automatically lock at the specified height.
  3. With the correct selection of fabric density, the design will ensure effective reflection or dispersion of intense light flux (for example, in summer on a south-facing window), leaving the possibility of penetration of unscattered light. The system is especially convenient for those who keep seedlings and indoor plants on windows; it is suitable for installation in winter gardens and glazed loggias.
  4. Installation on old standard windows (with vents) will allow you to open the sash for ventilation even when the lower part is completely closed.

  5. Installation of roller blinds downwards up.

    The bottom-up system is convenient for installing windows in a nursery or bedroom. In winter, a window half covered with curtains will not create a flow of cold air from the glass surface. Installing a large canvas over the entire opening will also protect against drafts, without greatly limiting the light flux.

The advantages include the possibility of combining a lower roller blind with an upper one of the same type. This provides expanded possibilities for room design: you can attach 2 panels of contrasting or different textures, if this will decorate the interior of the room.

Design

Surely everyone understands what we mean by the word “design”. First of all, we are talking about choosing a color and pattern for what we are going to hang on the windows

It is important that curtains or blinds not only provide functionality, but also combine with the interior of the room. The choice of texture also plays an important role in this.

From the point of view of color, pattern and texture, blinds have made great progress since their appearance on the Russian market. Today it is possible to make blinds of almost any color. Some companies even offer to print designs on their blinds.

Renovation school: how to arrange space in the kitchen True, it will cost more. However, the choice of texture for blinds is not so great. You can buy plastic, metal and wooden horizontal blinds. The latter, by the way, look just great, but they also cost much more than their counterparts made from simpler materials.

Curtains, needless to say, outperform blinds in this parameter. The colors and patterns that can be used to create curtains are endless. So you can easily choose the one that will suit your interior. In addition, there is the possibility of making curtains with a pattern that you choose yourself. And there are also more than enough materials from which curtains can be made.

Disadvantages of this model

The main disadvantage is the higher cost of the product. However, the difference is small and is mainly explained by the installation of additional mechanisms.

Cassette-type systems are supplied fully assembled, and the complicated design does not cause problems for consumers.

Disadvantages include the low availability of roller blinds, whose shaft is located at the bottom. Products have to be ordered from specialized stores or searched for in large cities. This drawback is temporary, since the variety of goods is classified as new.

When choosing a model with a bottom-mounted mechanism, it is recommended to take into account the possibility of damage to it by children and pets, for whom a cassette or open-type roller will be available.

Design options

Like top-mounted products, roller blinds that open from bottom to top are available in different versions:

  • for installation under a window sill (requires installation of a window sill board without removal above the wall);
  • minirollo (open type) with a lightweight design that allows you to place the shaft in the middle of the opening;
  • Roman blinds or pleated curtains, folding like an accordion;
  • cassette systems (UNI 1 and 2) with a closed mechanism.

Open roll models

Unlike cassettes or mini-rollos for top mounting, open-type roller blinds with the movement of the canvas from bottom to top do not have a frame. Their shaft is mounted on holders at the edges of the frame. Fastening in modern models is often carried out due to the adhesive properties of double-sided tape. This makes it possible to fix the brackets anywhere in the frame and ensure that the light opening is covered from the middle of the window.

The design is more often used for large windows, for which the length of standard panels is not enough. In such cases, from the window sill to the middle, you can close the opening with one curtain, and from its edge up, raise a second one.

Unlike open-type systems for top and wall installation, mini-rollos with the movement of the canvas from bottom to top have compact dimensions. To move and fix the lifting bar, thin U-shaped guides or strings made of transparent cord are used.

Types of materials and their ability to transmit light

Modern models are made from cotton, linen or synthetic fabrics with stain-removing impregnation and do not require washing. The most that is required is to collect dust with a vacuum cleaner and clean from time to time with a damp sponge and detergent.

Blinds can be any color: white, beige, colored, dark, plain or patterned. The choice depends only on your taste and the interior of the room.

Light transmittance is often specified as a percentage. What we are talking about is easy to understand if we take the entire luminous flux entering the apartment as 100%. If the curtain does not let any rays of light into the room, its light transmittance is 0%. Thin textures have little resistance, so for them the indicator does not fall below 70-80%.

The ability to control lighting depends on the structure and density of the material.

  1. Transparent and translucent - hide from prying eyes and decorate the space, but have almost no effect on the intensity of the flow. One of the varieties is Burnout. This is a thin material with a burnt chemical composition, with a transparent pattern.
  2. “Day-Night” (zebra) is a double canvas consisting of transparent and opaque stripes. By moving the layers relative to each other, you can achieve complete or partial darkening.
  3. Shading - This material allows about 25% of sunlight to pass through and provides partial shade.
  4. Blackout is a light-protective fabric coated with reflective acrylic. Blocks up to 90% of rays, making this solution ideal for the bedroom.

The surface is made not only of fabric, but also of bamboo. This is a pleasant natural raw material that is resistant to high humidity and does not fade. However, it is noisy in a draft and does not suit the style everywhere. Also, with its help you will not be able to achieve complete darkness.

Blackout

This type of fabric consists of two layers. On the side of the room there is a decorative material that fits well with the specific interior, and on the worn side there is a reflective layer. Such curtains will protect the room not only from the penetration of unwanted sunlight, but also from excessive heat.

Velvet

Heavy and soft fabric made of natural silk. There is a similar and cheaper option for silk velvet. In this case, a cotton base is used. There is artificial velvet made from synthetic fibers based on polyester. Velvet ideally protects the room from sunlight and noise. Does not fade, retains heat in the room.

If your choice falls on a velvet curtain, you need to take into account that the frame must be strong to withstand the weight of the material.

The material looks especially impressive in large halls. They have enough space to hang voluminous curtains. But in small rooms, velvet curtains seem heavy and bulky; they “eat up” the already meager space.

In addition to curtains, interior pillows can be made from the same fabric.

Luxurious velvet is ideal for classic interiors. Even the most unpretentious drapery made from this material looks expensive and solemn.

Jacquard

Jacquard is a strong and durable material with a double-sided pattern consisting of many intertwined threads. Jacquard fabrics do not fade in the sun and do not require additional care.

Weaving technology allows you to create a variety of incredibly beautiful patterns that look great on both sides of the fabric. The range of jacquard curtains is huge, and choosing colors is not difficult.

This is an excellent option for decorating living room windows, which will look good even without combination with other types of curtains.

Atlas

Satin is a soft, shiny fabric that can be plain or printed. This substance is called “fluid” due to the unusual properties of the material. With every movement, the satin shines in the sun, creating the feeling of bright waves.

Gozhka

The rug is a natural raw material with the addition of synthetic components. The fabric is made up of checkerboard fibers and has a soft or smooth surface.

It has the following advantages:

  • requires virtually no maintenance;
  • wear-resistant;
  • does not deform;
  • allows you to create voluminous curtains in bright, rich colors.

This type of curtain is not recommended if animals live in the house, since the fabric is clearly visible, which will inevitably be left by claws.

Tulle

Tulle is a light, thin and translucent fabric of varying lengths in the form of a mesh or patterned fabric. To choose these curtains, you need to take into account the interior of the room, the possibility of combining with other types, and the appropriateness of accessories in its composition.
