Review of vertical and horizontal blinds for arched windows

To diversify the interior of a room and let in more light, many designers resort to the idea of non-standard window openings: triangular, bay windows, arched. Unusually shaped windows make the room visually larger.

In order to advantageously express the uniqueness of the window, and not hide it completely, you need to choose the right curtains, tulle or lambrequin. Usually, window decoration is a simple and unremarkable task, and many people think so, but in this case they miss that final decorative element that gives completeness and harmony to the overall appearance of the room. Typically, openings are usually covered with curtains or voluminous curtains, which gives a bulky, heavy look. In modern decor, fabric curtains are increasingly being replaced with vertical arched blinds. Unlike classic solutions for designing openings, they are more practical and reliable. Their big advantage is their ease of use. They are easy to clean and easy to remove, and the precise mechanism makes it easy to adjust the level of sunlight penetration and height. Modern blinds for arched windows are replete with a variety of shapes, colors and coatings.

Description of vertical arched blinds

Vertical arch-shaped blinds are blinds where all or several slats have different lengths (heights). The shape of the lower edge of the vertical ones can be made not only in the form of an arch, but also with a slope, a wave, a cross slope, or steps.

Vertical arched blinds consist of:

  1. Decorative cornice.
  2. Control mechanism.
  3. Lamels of different lengths.

The color of arched blinds depends on the customer’s preferences or is selected from colors already available for sale. A special role is assigned to lamellas. Thanks to their different lengths, designers create an arched shape for the blinds. The slats are arranged in such a way as to form a semicircle in the form of an arch. At one time, this type of blinds was used in educational and administrative premises. Over time, this form became popular in the private homes of ordinary citizens. Fastening can be of two types:

Vertical blinds in the form of an arch have a number of advantages:

  1. Simplicity and ease of control of the lamellas.
  2. Blinds add a touch of creativity to the room.
  3. The variety of arched shapes helps everyone choose the right option.
  4. Visually make the room more voluminous.

But along with the advantages, there is always a disadvantage: arched blinds should not be hung in the bedroom and kitchen, as they allow a lot of light to pass through.

  • Arch

Horizontal blinds for arched windows

They are quite rare. For most horizontal models, the slats rise and fall only to the eaves of the arch.

They are affordable, easy to install, and compact. But the downside is that it is very difficult to replace damaged strips. Even if one strip breaks, you will have to call a specialist, and perhaps even change the blinds completely.

Regular arch

Arch blinds (simple) are a vertical type of blinds. The length of the slats is shortened closer to the center of the window. Thanks to this, the appearance of this form is achieved.

The simple arched type has always been popular among Russians. This is a simple but effective way to enhance the aesthetics of your home or office interior.

But Blinds can be placed not only on windows, but also on interior arches - this is a good way to further embellish the design of the room.

The advantages of arched blinds include the method of fastening.

Ceiling (blinds are attached to the ceiling). Wall-mounted (the arched blinds are mounted on the wall). Window (lamellas are superimposed on the window cavity).

Thanks to these types of fastening, blinds can be adapted to any shape of arched window opening.

About the features

Experts call the main highlight of the blinds that are used to decorate arched openings the shape of the cornice.

Arched blinds

This structural element must be flexible and sufficiently rigid. Thanks to these characteristics, the blinds do not deform and the slats retain their shape, even after long use.

As with standard window openings, several types of blinds are produced for arched windows:

  • Vertical
  • Horizontal
  • Pleated

Vertical arched blinds

Arched blinds are also divided according to the type of material used for their manufacture:

  • Plastic
  • Aluminum
  • Fabric
  • Multi-textured

Horizontal arched blinds

The choice of type and material depends on the purpose of the room and the financial capabilities of the customer.

Tilt

Another well-known and popular form of arched blinds is the inclined type. It is designed specifically for complex arched shapes. You can easily create an arch-shaped blind from two windows located parallel to each other. The symmetry of the pattern will look beautiful in any interior, especially if you match the color scheme of the blinds and surrounding interior items. Such decorative devices are used when the window is a dormer type with a slope. The slope of the cornice should not be higher than 45 degrees.

This window shape often requires an individual order, especially if the window is non-standard.

  • Cross arch

Horizontal

Arched blinds for semicircular windows with horizontal slats are used extremely rarely. The design allows the canvas to be raised only before the arched cornice begins to be placed.

Otherwise, semicircular blinds are very similar to ordinary horizontal ones, intended for standard window openings. Installation and use of these structures is not difficult. This is an excellent choice for those who want to emphasize the originality of window and door openings.

Cross arch

This shape is best represented by drawing two intersecting lines and erasing everything above their intersection. This is how the cross slope shape is constructed. The lamellas are shortened as they approach the center of the intersection of the conventional lines of the arch. The result is a double cross slope.

This shape allows for greater illumination of the room, and is especially suitable for lovers of sunlight.

Window decoration with curtains

People strive for beauty, for a reasonable combination of harmony and style. When owners are thinking about what curtains to buy for arched windows, they should consider the established techniques for draping arches. The desired result is achieved if the designer takes into account the following factors:

  • features of the room, its functional purpose;
  • general style of apartment design;
  • saturation of natural light;
  • placement of curtains in relation to the vault;
  • features of the fabrics used;
  • length of curtains, their cut.

Choosing arched curtains is not at all easy. The arch as an architectural device is particularly decorative. If the windows overlook the internal territory, then there is no need to cover them for aesthetic reasons

Italian curtains for arched windows

Curtains for arched windows are sometimes completely straight. In this case, the cornice is attached to the wall below the place where the bend of the window arch is located. And this option for designing a non-standard window is now popular. The choice is justified by the additional amount of natural light in the room.

The volume and majesty of the folds is obtained on dense fabric such as velvet or tapestry, while lightness and airiness are obtained on transparent organza.

The decoration of arched windows with curtains is practiced in a wide variety of ways. Various draperies and fabric curtains are suitable for this purpose, which perfectly replicate the unusual shapes of window openings. Window design options have already been introduced and are popular:

  • Italian linen curtains for drapery;
  • tulle draperies in the form of multi-layer decoration;
  • curtains with folds in the form of scallops;
  • lambrequins made of fabrics with soft, hard, combined textures;
  • Roman curtains;
  • pleated looks original;
  • curtains in the form of muslin;

The feel of the room depends on the material for arched curtains and drapery. Drapery fabric tiebacks, which are located closer to the window, visually narrow the room and pull it up; those located towards the edges of the walls reduce and expand it.

Vertical blinds with wave

Another common type of blinds is wave. This pattern is achieved by constantly shortening and lengthening the lamellas. The result is the creation of undulations. There are many types of “waves”, and each interior has its own shape.

A wave can be formed either ascending or descending. It all depends on how the lamellas are arranged along the length (from long to short or vice versa).

If there are long lamellas in the middle of the wave, then the pattern will be crested down. When there is a short lamella in the center, the crest of the wave will be directed upward towards the ceiling. All these “tricks” create a variety of arched waveforms from lamellas. The aesthetics of blinds creates a high demand for them around the world.

The wave shape will give uniform distribution of sunlight in the room and will delight any person.

Inclined arched blinds

At first glance, slanted windows should be without curtains, because due to their unusual shape it is difficult to find standing curtains for them, and hanging something unremarkable is not interesting. Blinds are now adapted to windows of various shapes, including inclined ones.

They differ from ordinary ones in that the slats on such a cornice will be of different lengths. The only limitation is related to the level of the angle: due to the width of the lamellas, they will cling to each other.

Design features of vertical models

Blinds of this type are a series of wide strips of thick fabric or other materials attached to the cornice. They can be moved to the side by first turning them perpendicular to the window. When assembled, they take up little space, turning into a narrow strip of several layers.

The design of vertical blinds consists of certain parts:

  • complex cornice, consisting of a load-bearing part with a fixed curtain and a decorative facade;
  • runners for fixing lamellas;
  • holders for connecting the slats to the cornice;
  • weights that pull the plates down;
  • connection chain on the bottom of the canvases;
  • rotating chain for changing the angle of the lamellas relative to the window;
  • a cord with a counterweight for moving and spreading the plates;
  • the slats themselves are for vertical blinds, which are long wide plates.

The system also includes various fittings and components.

Curtains

An unusual decoration for arched kitchen windows are curtains of a special cut. Such products can be purchased in a retail chain, or you can make them yourself. The pattern is simple. Arched curtains win in everything: they are elegant, original, fresh and accessible. We can recommend fabrics for curtaining arched windows:

  • linen - looks impressive, durable fabric, easy to wash;
  • translucent tulle, breathable;
  • spectacular mesh;
  • organza is whimsical to use.
