Stained glass doors in the interior: masterly interpretations of glass decor

Rules for installation of stained glass structures

  1. The glass structure must only be moved in a vertical position.
  2. It is advisable to lift the stained glass panel from a horizontal to a vertical position, resting on the end and distributing the weight of the glass evenly on both sides. The stained glass window is fixed in the same way.
  3. Stained glass must be stored in a vertical position. It is also recommended to use a flat hard stop, a wall or a vertical surface with a slight slope.

Installing a stained glass composition in a door requires experience and skill. If this procedure is performed for the first time, it is advisable to seek professional help.

Glass decor for doors

It’s just that ordinary glass is rarely used for the production of glass doors; it is almost always decorated.

The decor is made by surface painting and engraving. The painting can be done by an artist, then the cost of the door will be higher and will depend on the professionalism of the artist.

Sandblasting

This method has appeared recently and allows you to obtain stained glass in pastel shades. The process involves removing the surface layer from the glass. Penetration into the thickness of the glass is allowed to varying depths; the resulting pattern is voluminous and looks realistic.

The advantage of stained glass windows created using sandblasting technology is the integrity of the glass array, its low weight and the production of unique monochrome patterns. A canvas with a similar pattern can serve as an entire door or become part of a complex composition, but in any case it will become the “highlight” of the room.

Glass door care

Maintenance of glass doors is minimal and consists of regularly washing the glass with soap and water. Skillfully dividing a room into two zones is a technique that allows you to use every corner of the room with maximum benefit.

Important! Do not use cleaning products with abrasive additives to clean glass doors.

Types of stained glass

Modern designers are happy to use various stained glass compositions. It is worth noting that stained glass has long been released from the “captivity” of window frames. Now they can be found on wardrobes, on interior partitions, and on ceilings. The combination of pieces of glass of different colors and shades can visually change both the size of the room and the style of the interior.

Exquisite compositions made of transparent and “solid” glass should be selected with special care. There are a lot of options on the market that can satisfy even the most demanding taste. We turned for advice to specialists from Moscow, which has been manufacturing stained glass for more than ten years and offers not only classic compositions, but also exclusive works with individual designs.

But before choosing the design itself, you should decide on the technology for producing stained glass. At the moment, any owner of a house or apartment can choose one of the following types:

"Tiffany." This classic option involves the use of small pieces of glass, which are attached to each other using copper foil. In this way, a solid fabric is created, reminiscent of light lace;

  • Mosaic. For this technology, special blanks are first made - glass modules of the required size and shape, which are subsequently fastened together;
  • "Fusing". This option deserves special attention: an approved design is applied to transparent glass, which is then laid out with colored pieces of glass. Then the entire composition is sent to the oven for baking. The stained glass window becomes the end result of this labor-intensive process;
  • Etched stained glass. The essence of this technology is the use of a special acid that creates deep contours. A drawing is subsequently applied to them;
  • Painted stained glass window. One of the most inexpensive and easiest ways to imitate a real stained glass composition. A design is applied to transparent glass using special stained glass paints. After drying, the composition is ready for use;
  • Film stained glass. This type of stained glass allows you to create something original without resorting to the services of designers. A multi-colored film is glued onto the transparent glass, imitating pieces of colored glass.

Each of these types has its own advantages and disadvantages, for example, painted and film stained glass windows can be made independently. But they will also look like a beautiful imitation. But “Tiffany” or “Fusing” will require not only experience, but also the use of special devices

But stained glass compositions of this type will certainly attract increased attention.

Types of stained glass

The simplest types of stained glass, which are flat colored glass, were used to decorate temples in Ancient Egypt and Rome. Over time, craftsmen learned to create narrative canvases from multi-colored glass parts, which were secured with lead strips.

The first stained glass windows in the form in which we present them today appeared in Germany in the 10th century. To make them, pieces of multi-colored glass were cut out, sealed in metal, and the finished stained glass window was mounted in a metal frame.

Gradually, the primitive technique of creating images became more complex, and hand painting was added to the technology. Today, several basic technologies are used to create stained glass.

Depending on this, the following types of products are distinguished:

  • Sandblasting . For their production, glass surface treatment is used using an air-abrasive mixture.

Composition made using sandblasting technology

  • Typesets . Mosaic compositions are created from pieces of multi-colored glass.

Stacked stained glass

  • Specchnye. The Fusing technique is used to make stained glass. Individual glass fragments are assembled into panels and baked. Sometimes baking other objects into the glass body is also used.
  • Painted . Stained glass can consist of one glass or be assembled into a frame of several elements painted with translucent paints and fired.

Painting on glass

  • Faceted. To create stained glass windows, glass parts are used that are chamfered along the entire perimeter. This technique allows you to increase the decorativeness of the product due to a more interesting play of light. The glass used to create compositions is thicker than usual, so when installing in a frame, it is necessary to take into account the significant weight of the decor.

Faceted stained glass

  • Etched. In this case, to create a pattern, chemical compounds (with hydrofluoric acid in the composition) are used that interact with the components of the glass.
  • Curved. When using bending technology, stained glass is given any shape in the oven.

The most popular are combined models. The combination of various glass processing technologies allows you to obtain a unique product. For example, when making stained glass, you can combine sandblasting, bevel technology and painting.

Methods for making an image

Since the production of real stained glass windows is an expensive process, and the price for classic models is corresponding, substitute technologies are currently being actively used for the production of these decorative finishing materials.

Imitation of stained glass compositions can be performed:

  • overhead method, in which the fragments are glued to the base;
  • contour filling, which is obtained by applying acrylic paints to contours that imitate glass joints and filling the resulting areas with polymer compounds;
  • photo printing;
  • film method, which consists of gluing colored self-adhesive film onto glass.

Finishing with stained glass film

Film stained glass windows glued to glass perfectly imitate classic, more expensive products. In addition, they also have their own advantages: the film transmits sunlight well; The coating gives the glass greater strength. Today, photo printing and film application are most often used to make stained glass windows intended for finishing door panels.

In terms of stained glass design today, there are no restrictions for creative people. Abstract figures, various ornaments, landscapes, fairy tale scenes, etc. can be used to decorate doorways. The main thing is that the image is harmoniously combined with the style of the place where the door is installed.

Selection of stained glass for doors of various types

The selection of stained glass techniques for decorating doors is carried out in accordance with the type of their device. Some recommendations are given in the following table:

Features of choosing stained glass for doors of various types of devices

Door typePeculiarities
Foldingthe design involves many movable joints, which indicates the need to choose lightweight types of stained glass. This will help protect the doors from premature wear.
RadialBent glass is used for manufacturing, which somewhat limits the choice of stained glass techniques
SlidingSliding doors can be decorated with both classic and pseudo-stained glass windows. In the first case, the presence of a second rail is a prerequisite, since heavy stained glass inserts can lead to deformation of the structure
SwingThe hinged design of the door allows you to decorate its leaf using any stained glass technique. But it is worth remembering that when choosing a type-setting stained glass window, it is better to choose a composition of large parts; elements of a finely detailed insert can fly out over time

Stained glass for doors in the interior

Stained glass windows for doors, without interfering with the isolation of rooms from each other, deprive the surrounding space of oppressive isolation and visually expand the space. At the same time, stained glass doors fill the room with lightness, and, emphasizing the respectability of the room, give it its own appearance and uniqueness.

Stained glass windows on doors in the interior of a house can be used in rooms for any purpose. Here are some examples:

  • children's room - we recommend photo printing or stained glass film made on tempered glass;
  • bedroom – etched, sandblasted or painted stained glass windows will help provide the necessary privacy and privacy;
  • living room - noble stained glass Tiffany, beveled, classic are appropriate;
  • bathroom and kitchen - durable, steam and moisture resistant fusing, sandblasting and photo printing compositions are suitable;
  • balcony – translucent stained glass windows, as well as individual sandblasted designs.

Stained glass for doors by style

Doors with stained glass windows harmoniously fit into rooms designed in the spirit of minimalism, as well as luxurious and glamorous styles that amaze with the brightness of colors and pompous designs. The great advantage of stained glass doors is that, while fulfilling their main functions, they allow you to connect any space into a single whole while maintaining the stylistic direction of the surroundings. In addition, stained glass doors transmit light well or can be equipped with lighting, which allows them to be considered not only as a decorative element, but also as an additional light source.

Drawings for future stained glass of any style can be chosen:

  • using a directory;
  • by resorting to the services of designers;
  • develop your own sketches.

Design of doors with poured and sandblasted stained glass windows

An imitation of stained glass patterns on a door leaf is created by drawing the contours of the image in one color mixed with metal powder and filling it with a variety of paints. Anyone who wants to transform unobtrusive glass doors can easily carry out such painting.

To do this, you need to draw a sample illustration yourself or select a ready-made stencil. Based on the layout, transfer the contours of the drawing and paint it in the desired colors. When choosing paints, you should choose quick-drying, waterproof types, for example, alkyd. To prevent the painting coating from wearing off as a result of frequent wet cleaning, it is wise to cover the colorful image with acrylic varnish.

You can make stained glass with your own hands

Interior doors with stained glass made using sandblasting technology look distinctive. Its principle is to decorate a transparent or matte base by drawing an image with fine-grained sand, removing a layer along the contour of the design to a certain level of depth.

The main difference between sandblasted decor is the integrity of the glass canvas, decorated with discreet stained glass illustrations. In interiors, such decorative design is optimal for large-format sliding doors that can transmit maximum light. Weightless structures with barely noticeable outlines, thanks to the decor, create a feeling of airiness and visually conceal the conventional boundary between rooms. Such a visual effect cannot be achieved when installing other door modifications: massive metal or wood panels.

Sandblasted stained glass creates an airy feeling

Types and styles of stained glass doors

Stained glass doors, like any other, are divided into two types - entrance and interior. Of course, entrance doors with stained glass are used mainly in public places - cafes, restaurants, hotels, etc. But designers use interior doors with stained glass in the design of apartments and houses. There are practically no barriers to using stained glass technology when decorating doors.

Designers are increasingly proposing to use stained-glass windows for doors in room decoration. Stained glass windows in the door look great and give the whole interior a certain zest

The most important thing here is to choose the right stained glass window for the door. The choice of stained glass depends on the general style of the room, because it should not only be combined with the general style of the room, but also emphasize it, complement it, put the final point and be the accent of the entire interior

It is important to consider the style of stained glass here. Stained glass doors are divided into several types of styles:

  1. Gothic;
  2. antique;
  3. classical;
  4. abstraction;
  5. modern;
  6. Byzantine.

When choosing, it is important to remember exactly the purpose of the stained glass door, because the wrong stained glass in the door can easily ruin an almost perfect interior. For example, a Gothic style door with stained glass will look great if the entire room is decorated in the Empire or Gothic style. But modern and classic styles of stained glass doors will fit into almost any design

What should you consider when choosing a door with stained glass?

  • Location of light sources in the room. Stained glass windows look especially powerful when light shines through them. Doors with stained glass in a very bright room against the background of a dark corridor will look pale and dull. The situation can be changed by placing a wall or ceiling lamp opposite the door.
  • It is necessary to combine the style of the stained glass image with the decoration of the room. A bright multicolor composition with tropical flowers in a minimalist or high-tech interior will create obvious dissonance.
  • If you want to decorate glazed doors with stained glass and are unsure of your abilities, you can consult with a designer. Consulting a specialist is better than wasted effort and disappointment.

Where can stained glass be used?

Initially, stained glass was made exclusively on windows. The technology was complex even for creating flat-shaped products, and there was no talk of any shaped products. Now the scope of application of stained glass images is much wider:

  • Window.
  • Doors with glass - entrance and interior.
  • Partitions for zoning premises.
  • Ceiling and walls (backlit panels).
  • Lamps - lampshades or illuminated panels.
  • Part of furniture facades.
    Stained glass doors can be in any style

Stained glass windows must be used very carefully in the interior: this is a very bright decorative element and it must correspond to the entire surrounding environment. Or rather, on the contrary - the furnishings are developed taking into account the pattern and colors that are used in the stained glass window.

In which rooms can interior doors with stained glass be placed?

With the help of such doors it becomes possible to perfectly divide the space. Modern design solutions show that such an interior detail can be used in a wide variety of rooms:

  • Balcony. Thanks to the pattern and play of light, you can create a unique atmosphere in the room;
  • Living room. The decoration of this room is especially popular in the Tiffany style;
  • Children's room. Stained glass is an ideal detail for decorating a child’s room;
  • Kitchen. When choosing, take into account the moisture resistance characteristics of the doors;
  • Bedroom. Such doors will help create a cozy interior.

Stained glass for interior doors, lily glazing, is especially popular. It is perfect for almost any type of room. You can see what this design looks like in the photo.

Stained glass doors - what are they for?

Stained glass doors will make the interior of the room original and exclusive. At the same time, they perform basic functions: protect, divide space into zones, retain heat, and prevent the penetration of extraneous sounds and odors.

The incident light plays beautifully on the glass, giving it a special look

It attracts people's attention. Therefore, stained glass doors are often installed in hotels, restaurants, museums

To add individuality to the interior, the image is made to order. The designer takes into account the customer’s wishes and creates an original drawing. You can order your favorite cartoon character for your children's room. Create an intimate atmosphere in the bedroom. And between the kitchen and dining room, install a stained glass structure that will resemble the interior of a restaurant.

What types are there:

Interior

In addition to performing basic functions, interior doors with stained glass are an independent decorative element. With their help, the room will look more spacious and brighter.

What types of design can be ordered:

  1. Tiffany - classic style. This type was used back in the medieval years. This technique was improved by Louis Tiffany. To fasten the pieces of glass together, special metal inserts are used. Due to them, the pieces of glass are firmly attached to the canvas.
  2. Faceted. A variation of the Tiffany style. Performed using the same technique. It is used to create geometric designs.
  3. Fusing. It is created in special ovens. The glass pieces are heated at high temperatures and soldered together. According to texture, it is divided into: comb, pate de vere, painting, bending.
  4. Film. The cheapest, but short-lived equipment. The film with the pattern is glued onto the glass.
  5. Jellied. The design is applied to the glass using special types of paints. Some types dry at room temperature, others require firing.
  6. Sandblasting. The top layer of glass is removed and a three-dimensional sand pattern is applied under pressure. This technique is used for images in pastel colors.
  7. Photo printing. Photo printing is applied to the glass. Used to create any complex designs.

Each type has its own characteristics. Before ordering, check with a specialist whether the door leaf will withstand the desired type of surface design.

Input

There is an opinion that entrance structures with mosaic inserts are unsafe. But it is wrong. Glass with a pattern is attached to the outer part of the canvas. Behind it is a sheet of metal or wood. If the entrance structure is made entirely of glass, then impact-resistant glazing is chosen.

Kinds

There are various types of stained glass, which differ from each other in quality, color, appearance, design and cost. The price range is wide - everyone will find a profitable solution. Let's consider reliable and popular options:

  • Tiffany. This type of colored glass differs from others in its attractive appearance and production technology. For soldering, metal inserts are used, with the help of which the pieces of glass are fastened to each other without compromising their appearance. The cost of such a product is quite high, which makes it not affordable for every buyer.

  • Fusing. Manufacturing technology using fusing ensures the integrity of the glass by soldering. The pieces of glass are heated to a temperature of 100 degrees and held together in this state. The price for this classic type of stained glass door is much lower than for Tiffany.
  • With photo printing. Production occurs by applying photo printing to glass. Such stained glass windows are distinguished by complex patterns, without compromising the integrity and high strength of the canvas.
  • Sandblasting. Engraving is done with sand under very high pressure. Sandblasting technology appeared recently, but during this time it has already gained popularity due to its ease of manufacture, attractive appearance and affordable cost.
  • Self-adhesive film is the most inexpensive decorative solution for interior doors among the types of stained glass windows presented. But despite the low price, stained glass stickers look beautiful and don’t lose much in anything.

Care

In order for interior doors with stained glass to last a long time and not lose their original attractive appearance, they need care.

  • For washing, use special glass cleaners, soap solutions and clean water. You don't need a lot of water - a slightly damp cleaning is enough. To do this, take a soft cloth and soak it in water or a special solution, wring it out and wipe the glass;
  • If stained glass doors are heavily soiled, specialized cleaning products are used. You should never use household chemicals that contain aggressive and abrasive substances. Contaminants should be washed off the glass gradually;
  • After the stained glass window is washed, wipe it dry;
  • When washing, do not press too hard on the glass.

Interior stained glass doors are an ideal solution if you want to decorate a room beautifully. Properly selected stained glass will fit into any design solution and elevate the interior.

Application: beauty + functionality

Our workshop has developed design samples that fully comply with the technical requirements that apply to door glazing for the sake of its practicality.

Our stained glass doors:

  • easy to open and close (hinged);
  • move smoothly along the guides (sliding);
  • provide sound and heat insulation;
  • do not allow foreign odors to pass through;
  • do not reduce burglary resistance, which is very important for entrance doors.

Particular attention is paid to the strength and rigidity of the entire structure, since interior doors are constantly in motion.

Beautiful ideas in a modern interior

Not only interior doors are decorated with stained glass. Colored glass can be inserted into furniture cabinet doors. For example, you can decorate kitchen cabinet doors with stained glass decor - it will add airiness and elegance to the interior. As an option, you can choose a single ornament that would echo the pattern on the interior door.

In wardrobe systems, compartment-type doors are often installed. These can be either individual glass inserts or a whole sheet of glass with a pattern printed on it. Due to the complexity of manufacturing such products, their cost is quite high and they are almost never found in mass production - they are made to order according to individual sketches.

The most popular technique among all designers is to install portable or sliding partitions to separate one functional area from another. This is especially true in apartments with an open plan and where the kitchen is combined with the living room. If there is no desire or opportunity to install any kind of door, you can simply make an arch in the doorway and decorate it with stained glass windows.

In this video you will see the process of creating a stained glass window for a door.

Stained glass for doors in kitchen and bathroom

Stained glass windows on doors radically transform the interior of a room, as they can be depicted in any arbitrary form. It should be taken into account that doors carry a certain load, and accordingly stained glass windows must meet this requirement, that is, be quite durable.

Stained glass doors are suitable for any room and, of course, for kitchen and bathroom doors. When creating a stained glass window for a bathroom, you need to take into account the humidity in the room.

Consequently, in this case there will be increased requirements for stained glass windows. The doors of these rooms can be decorated in any style, but fusing ornaments and photo printing have become especially popular stained glass windows.

Fusing stained glass

Fusing is the fusion of individual stained glass elements into a single composition on the canvas. The canvas is the base on which fragments of multi-colored glass, small granules of stones, batches and frits are laid out.

This technique allows you to sinter fusing panels of any thickness, size and configuration. The size depends only on the capabilities of the melting furnace. The base can be made of either plain or colored glass, 3-5 mm thick.

Currently, there are two main types of this stained glass technique:

  1. Complete melting of the elements of the composition. After turning into a liquid state in the oven, the mass goes through a simmering stage at a certain temperature for 2-4 hours. Then the oven turns off and the product gradually cools down;
  2. Semi-fusing. With this method, pieces of stained glass are only partially melted, maintaining their shape and without losing volume and convexity. You can use such stained glass on kitchen or bathroom doors only by replacing simple glass with stained glass panels.

Doors with photo printing in the bathroom and kitchen

As a result of modern technology, any image is applied to the glass surface: ornaments, photographs, famous cartoon characters. At the same time, photo printing radically transforms the interior of the premises.

The printing used on the bathroom doors is completely opaque. To achieve this, it is applied from the reverse side and then a backing is applied.

Photo printing can also be double-sided on triplex glass. It is reproduced inside the layers, then they are glued together due to high temperature. As a result, glass is formed with various images on the reverse sides of the door.

Such doors with photo printing are reliable, they are highly durable and have an aesthetic appearance.

Types of interior doors

Interior structures made of solid wood, PVC, MDF, glass, plastic are often ordered with a mosaic image. They look beautiful and allow you to decorate the room in an unusual style. Stained glass windows last a long time, with proper use for more than 10 years.

When choosing an image, consider the lighting in the room. Afterwards, think about the colors and degree of transparency of the drawing. Experiment with matte and glossy surfaces.

Swing

Classic swing structures will withstand any stained glass window, however, you need to look at the room in which they are located. Use closers to reduce the force of impact when closing. Impact loading can damage the stained glass insert.

Sliding

Try to choose sliding stained glass doors from lightweight materials. The sliding system consists of: rollers, upper and lower guides. Heavy or double stained glass is an additional load on the rollers. It affects the wear resistance and service life of the rollers. Therefore, it is better to choose the design with film, fill pattern, photo printing, or sandblasting.

Accordion doors

The accordion is installed in small apartments and offices in order to save space. They make both small inserts and solid stained glass windows. You can make the design using any technique. When choosing Tiffany or fusing, make a durable frame: wood or aluminum. For sandblasting, pouring and film, a frame made of MDF or plastic is suitable. Photo printing can be applied to frameless structures.

Radial

Radius designs are the most complex in terms of operating principle and design. Special curved glass is used for them. To make this shape, the glass is heated at a temperature of 100 degrees and bent.

Suitable design techniques: film, fusing, sandblasting. You can make a combined stained glass window by combining three techniques together.

Variety of technologies, designs

We perform stained glass on glass and mirror surfaces. Several rules apply when developing a project.

The stained glass technique is selected depending on:

  1. door material:
      for wooden ones – classic, beveled, tiffany;
  2. for plastic – cast, film, painting;
  3. for glass – sandblasting, photo printing;
  4. for metal ones - fusing, facet, tiffany.
  5. room type:
      in the nursery - photo printing, film (on tempered glass, triplex);
  6. in the bedroom - sandblasting, etching, painting;
  7. in the living room - Tiffany, facet;
  8. in the bathroom - photo printing, fusing;
  9. on the balcony - filler.

We produce a wide variety of stained glass doors for clients in Moscow, for example:

  • single-, double-leaf, with transom;
  • double radius for sliding wardrobes;
  • entrance portals for cottages.

If there is an arch without a door leaf between two rooms, we can additionally make a narrow stained glass window around the perimeter of the arch. Colored and translucent glass is used for decoration, making the image look realistic on both sides. If the picture, for example, shows flowers, then it seems that there are living plants behind the glass.

About choosing accessories

In order for the door structure to last for many years, you need to pay attention to the choice of fittings. There are several basic options for completing door hardware

Door hardware, of course, means handles and hinges. Let's start with the first ones. Door handles are divided into several types:

  1. The first type is a knob handle with a latch. It's quite inexpensive. However, this is its only advantage.
  2. The second type is the handle on the bar, which is a latch mechanism and a handle on the bar. It looks beautiful and is inexpensive. Unfortunately, such accessories are not always of high quality. This is especially true for options made of aluminum.
  3. The third type is a handle on a rosette or flange. Such fittings are the most optimal. It is a solid cast element, therefore the likelihood of breakage is significantly reduced.
  4. The fourth type is door handles equipped with a magnetic mechanism. They are very popular due to the fact that they operate almost silently.

Now let's look at the door hinges. They are divided into two large groups:

  1. One group includes hinges that are used in combination with door leaves that have a flat end.
  2. The second group includes hinges for doors with a quarter or rebate. Hinges from this group eliminate the visible gap that forms between the box and the canvas.

There are also universal hinges that fit any door. This type of hinge has from two to four support bearings on the axis of rotation. As for the sizes, the loops come in four and five inches. The height of the map is also important. It is worth remembering that the heavier the door structure, the larger the door hinges should be. A large and heavy door on small hinges simply will not last long.

Advantages of glass products

Nowadays, such a solution to the input block is often encountered. Sometimes people, in order to decide to buy such a thing, want to know about all its positive qualities.

Among the most noticeable positive characteristics it is worth noting:

  • High light transmittance. Therefore, they are often installed where there are no windows - light from another room passes through them.
  • Visually increase the space. They add air, make the wall lighter and seem transparent.
  • Gives completeness to the design. They make the overall look complete and logical.
  • Original. They look logical and at the same time unusual in any environment.
  • Moisture resistant. You can place it at the entrance to any room, even the most humid one. They will not swell or warp.
  • Help with zoning. With their help, lightweight partitions are mounted, with which it is not difficult to separate the recreation area from the work area.
  • Practical and easy to care for. They can be washed, even old and difficult stains can be cleaned without unnecessary difficulties. Do not attract dirt and dust.
  • Not deformed. Regardless of the type of impact, they do not warp, do not tilt, and do not take in water. The only thing that can happen is that if they are hit hard by a sharp object, they can break.
  • Lungs. Compared to massive wood and iron, they weigh significantly less.
  • Variety of types, shades, textures. The modern market offers a huge selection of products to suit any interior style.

If the future owner still thinks that a glass item will be too fragile, it is worth taking a closer look at the triplex system. This is a much more durable design and can be installed in homes with small children.

Their only drawback is that such models contradict a person’s desire for privacy. Sometimes there is a feeling of a constantly open doorway. This can make it difficult to feel protected.

Dimensions

When choosing a suitable door design, you should carefully measure the opening between the rooms in length and width.

Even if the dimensions of this space are standard, and you can roughly name them, it is better to make sure of this again. Otherwise, the door leaf will have to be adjusted to fit the opening, which often takes a lot of time and effort.

Regarding the opening width, the international standard for interior doors varies from 60-90 cm. Of course, it all depends on the immediate type of construction. For example, for corner models, the width is most often determined individually.

There is no standard for the height of door structures. As a rule, this indicator depends on the height of the ceiling in the room. The interior door can reach 190 cm or 220 cm.

How to choose?

When choosing a high-quality door structure, pay attention to its color, the material from which it is made, as well as the dimensions of the product. Buy only models that match the style of your main ensemble.

Models with large glazed inserts will look good in the kitchen or dining room.

It is not recommended to install such options in the bedroom due to the transparent glass, which makes the room more spacious.

If you still want to install such a canvas in the bedroom, then it is better to choose products with corrugated, matte or stained glass inserts.

Variegated specimens with bright colored patterns will find their place in modern interiors. The main thing is that the palette of multi-colored mosaics matches the color scheme of the decor.

It is not recommended to install doors with large glass in children's rooms. A child may accidentally damage the structure, which will lead to unpleasant consequences in the form of a broken insert and an injured child.

Examples of stained glass in the interior

Stained glass will visually change the interior for the better. Rooms decorated with such elements seem more spacious, imperfections in the layout are smoothed out, and there is a feeling of the room being filled with internal light. There are many options for using stained glass in the interior. It could be:

  • glazing of facade windows or windows in partitions made of wood or plasterboard;
  • the use of stained glass inserts in suspended ceilings;
  • design of interior or even entrance doors;
  • installation of stained glass screens for fireplaces in living rooms;
  • the use of multi-colored glass for decorating furniture;
  • refinishing kitchen aprons and countertops;
  • production of chandeliers and lamps, wall panels;
  • decoration of decorative interior items - mirrors, shelves, boxes;
  • creating partitions and stained glass niches for zoning space.

When constructing suspended structures - ceilings or threshold-free partitions - it is usually not a mosaic of colored glass that is used, but painted or stained glass decorated with film. This is done to reduce weight and cost of materials.

Glass insert shapes

Popular types of forms.

Horizontal

They allow you to visually increase the width of a narrow doorway and make the room more spacious.

Vertical

They fit harmoniously into any interior style and create a pleasant accent in the space. In addition, horizontal inserts visually lengthen the height of interior doors.

Oval and round

Graceful rounded elements allow you to create a romantic and dreamy atmosphere, impart airiness to the atmosphere and create a cozy and very elegant design.

Curly

They provide the opportunity to turn the door leaf into a unique and non-standard interior element that will become the dominant feature of the entire room.

Rectangular and square

Due to the rigor and correctness of the lines, proportionality and traditional arrangement, square or rectangular inserts represent a classic and fairly conservative design solution.

Types and materials of structures

Interior doors can be decorated with stained glass inserts, but can also be made entirely of stained glass.

Stained glass inserts are combined with various materials:

  • With traditional wood;
  • With wood substitutes: MDF or HDF;
  • With plastic (PVC);
  • With glass or mirror;
  • With metal.

Tree

Wood is a classic material for making doors; it lends itself to all types of processing, but it has a serious drawback: it can absorb moisture or dry out, and this, in turn, leads to cracks in the stained glass insert.

With this treatment, stained glass doors made of wood last for decades without cracking, and if they lose color, they can be restored. The stained glass window is fixed in a wooden structure using glazing beads, while paneled doors with stained glass inserts with a classic broach look especially fashionable.

MDF or HDF

Wood replacement doors typically have a wood-grade, edge-jointed timber frame that is clad in MDF sheets and covered with veneer. Such doors can fade, but are not subject to deformation due to temperature changes, and if coated with high-quality varnish, they can successfully withstand short-term humidity.

An important point when installing a stained-glass window insert in a door made of wood substitutes is its weight: the stained-glass window that is installed in such panels should not be too heavy, because MDF or HDF simply will not support it.

What materials are used for apartment doors?

The following materials are used for manufacturing, which have both their advantages and disadvantages:

  • Tree. Doors made from solid oak, pine or mahogany are not only the most beautiful, but also very reliable and durable structures with a fairly high price.
  • Metal. The combination of a thin metal frame with tempered glass gives the door leaf visual lightness and style.
  • Plastic (PVC). Aesthetic, original and at the same time inexpensive interior models made of plastic with a glossy or matte finish, are especially light and can have a wide variety of colors.
  • Completely glass. They will undoubtedly become a decoration and accent element of any design, and will also bring additional light, air into the room and visually expand spatial boundaries.

Plastic

Plastic ones are quite common, and are used both as entrance and interior ones. They are usually made from polyvinyl chloride, their advantages are as follows:

  • Price. Plastic is inexpensive, like most synthetic materials. In fact, a plastic one will even cost less than a chipboard frame.
  • Sustainability. Plastic does not suffer from water, is not afraid of temperature changes, and does not fade in the sun. It is not eaten by insects and rodents, and it does not absorb liquid.
  • Variety of colors. Despite the fact that plastic is usually made white, you can buy any other color - from fake natural wood to black.
  • Thermal insulation and sound insulation. The seal on the plastic ones fits so tightly that it provides the best possible noise insulation - if a plastic door leads to a balcony, it is enough to close it so that street noise is completely cut off. The same is with thermal insulation - heat does not escape through serviceable fittings at all, even if the canvas consists almost entirely of double-glazed windows.

Metal

Metal ones are not placed between rooms - it is too expensive, and besides, it is not convenient due to its weight. But as input they have no equal. Their advantages are the following:

  • Durability. If plastic lasts ten years, and wood fifteen, then metal can last in your home for up to half a century.
  • Safety. Metal has the highest possible protection class.
  • Sustainability. A metal door is not afraid of moisture, pests, or fire.

Glass

Glass for inserts can also be very different - after all, there are numerous processing methods, the results of which are quite different.

So, for large inserts it makes sense to use the following types:

  • Triplex. Thick glass, which is obtained by gluing several sheets together with a transparent film. It looks as good as any other and is often used for car windshields. It is almost impossible to break it, and even if by some miracle this happens, it will only crack and not crumble.
  • Reinforced. Inside this glass there is a metal mesh, which is why it looks like it is broken into small squares. It is basically impossible to break it - when hit, several squares may fly out, but nothing else will happen.
  • Tempered. Such glass is obtained when the most common sheet glass is calcined in a special furnace. It is difficult to break it, and if you do succeed, the fragments will be large, with blunt edges. Less reliable than reinforced or triplex, but cheaper.

Other types of glass are suitable for glass inserts of different sizes - they break and, accordingly, a burglar can get inside through them if they are larger than recommended.

Wooden

The most popular, of course, are high-quality and environmentally friendly products made from natural wood. The canvases made from oak, walnut, wenge, alder and mahogany look especially chic and expensive. Such products are expensive, but they look unsurpassed and will serve their owners for many years.

However, when purchasing such a wonderful door, you need to take into account the fact that it will need regular care and careful treatment.

Natural wood must be periodically coated with special antiseptic solutions. Without such “maintenance”, natural material may lose its beautiful appearance: dry out, crack or fade.

Parasites often appear in natural wood, and getting rid of them is quite problematic, but if you take a responsible approach to caring for your door, then this problem can be avoided.

MDF, chipboard

More affordable are simple specimens made from materials such as MDF and laminated chipboard. Such designs are the most common. Most buyers choose these options because of their affordable cost, but such doors cannot boast of high-quality and original design. As a rule, cheap canvases have a template and simple appearance.

However, few people know that particle boards are toxic, since they contain formaldehyde resins. These additives, when exposed to high temperatures, release harmful substances that have an adverse effect on human health.

If you do not want to harm yourself, then it is better to purchase a door made of class “e-1” chipboard or a veneered option. Such specimens are safe and more environmentally friendly.

A couple of significant little things

Many owners of interiors in the style of functional, loft, high-tech and the like are afraid to use stained glass in their homes. But there is nothing to be afraid of, you just have to choose the right color and pattern. The best option is to order.

For example, stained glass windows in a modern interior for an office or work area are geometric figures of clear shapes, filled with the color of silver, charcoal, chocolate, cognac and even dark pear. In this case, the edges of the picture should be a tone darker than the darkest shade of the picture and of sufficient width.

For living rooms, you can choose an abstract stained glass window, making a door, niche, or piece of furniture a continuation of the general style in color or its contrasting element. A few sketches by an experienced craftsman - and your home, made in one of the modern styles, will sparkle with new colors.

But a glass picture is not only a single large canvas. It is also the focal point of the interior if it is a table lamp, coffee table top, shelf or panel. Despite the exquisite decoration, such a piece of furniture will attract the eye and thought again and again. However, that’s how it was intended.

In what style is it better to decorate the interior?

Design options in a variety of styles:

  • Classical. Interior doors with glazing, in the form of an imitation window with a white frame, canvases in calm beige, white, light brown colors, decorated with symmetrical beveled glass inserts with regular lines and simple shapes, will become the visual compositional center of a classic interior.
  • Provence. Interior products in clean and muted colors with elements made of frosted or transparent glass, decorated with sandblasted floral patterns, smooth lines and discreet ornaments, are perfect for the Provencal style. Also quite often found here are door models with a French lattice, made of natural wood, MDF, veneer or eco-veneer.
  • High tech. Modern plastic and metal structures with horizontal, vertical corrugated or frosted glass strips in combination with chrome fittings will not stand out from the overall design of advanced technologies.
  • Minimalism. A room in a minimalist style requires more brightness and light, so interior doors with transparent glass without patterns and having a regular geometric shape would be especially appropriate here.
  • Modern. Fully glazed transparent sliding models, designs such as a book or an accordion, two-color products with plexiglass using tinted or colored film will fit perfectly into a modern environment.
  • English. Most often, natural dimensional models in dark colors, decorated with capitals or wide trims, are used in the English style. Using glass inserts, you can lighten these massive canvases a little and give them grace.

Interior products with matte, transparent, grainy corrugated inserts or glazed panels in the middle are quite a noticeable detail of the interior, so they must fit correctly into the overall style without causing disharmony.

Room zoning

They can be used to isolate separately designated areas.

For example, equipment for a small office in a common room. When choosing transparent glass, the sun's rays will penetrate there unhindered, but sound will not.

This selective filtering of sounds and light makes it possible to install glass bathroom doors.

Equipping a children's room with a glass door is an opportunity to observe what is happening with good sound insulation, and also give children the effect of presence, while maintaining soundproofing properties.

Glass doors and partitions are an ideal means for creating unusual interiors.

In a small apartment, you can place both a bathroom and a bedroom in one space.

A door made of frosted glass will let in light and at the same time maintain the intimacy of what is happening behind it. They are convenient for separating balconies and loggias.

In the cool season, glass will retain the heat of the living area and let in light. And in the summer season, the doors can be thrown open, enjoying a single space.

For large living spaces, they are indispensable for developing a laconic and stylish design. An excellent choice for those clients who by the word “chic” do not mean pomp, but expensive quality and appropriateness.

Decorating doors with frescoes and photo wallpapers

We knock and they open for us - doors and doorways meet us at every step. These include the entrance lobbies and porches of our entrances, houses and apartments, and internal interior doors, sliding cabinet walls, dresser doors, dark rooms, wickets, and gates. We are accustomed to strictly delimiting spaces, and in this regard, doors are one of the most important structural elements that allow us to accurately determine where the functional purpose of a particular zone ends.

Fresco on the door

One of the most sophisticated and interesting ways to decorate an entrance or interior door is a fresco. Possessing a pleasant texture, durable, practical and resistant to color fading, the fresco can turn the door leaf into a real exhibit of Italian painting.

Despite the fact that the equipment of our factory allows us to produce frescoes up to 3 meters in height and up to 10 meters in length, we also produce narrow vertical frescoes according to given sizes, for example, for interior or sliding doors (width 80 cm or less). It is possible to accurately individually produce a decorative canvas with a pattern for a glass door, repeating the geometric features of the panel, crossbars and grooves and trim bars of the shutters.

Fresco canvases can also be additionally coated with a transparent moisture-resistant varnish, which allows them to be used as design elements not only indoors, but also in spaces in contact with the environment (garage gates, entrances, garden gates and other external doors).

The 13 textures we offer, along with the infinity of high-resolution original scenes from our catalog of images, allow us to create a fresco for the door in such a way that it blends into the existing interior as harmoniously and gently as possible, emphasizing its strengths and adding volume, aristocracy and charm to the space .

Photo wallpaper on the door 3D

A little less status, but no less stunning decoration of interior and exterior passages are inexpensive self-adhesive photo wallpapers for the door. The beauty of such photographic decorations is that, thanks to the wide variability of sizes, you can also decorate the frame frames and other adjacent elements around the door (or between two door plates) so as to “hide” the doors in a single, solid background, ornament, landscape or photographs without violating the community and harmony of the interior design idea that dominates your home.

Thus, the use of this design approach, especially within the bounds of the vast number of subjects offered by our photo wallpaper store, allows you to decorate any interior spaces with charm and zest: narrow vertical 3D wallpaper on the door to the living room or hall, children's room, bedroom, halls and corridors, bathrooms and saunas, offices. These design solutions look no less impressive in commercial real estate premises.

Among the pleasant options offered by our factory are samples and color proofs of products, which allow you to evaluate in advance the high quality and accurate reproduction of colors, shades and gradients.

Fittings for glass doors and its features

Fittings for any type of door are not only parts for fastening in the frame, but also a handle, a lock, decorative elements - these components are important parts for composing the image of the door as a whole - namely, its aesthetic component.

Fitting parts must meet certain requirements for fittings for glass elements:

  1. It should be taken into account that glass is a fairly heavy material - therefore, the fittings must be securely fixed in the glass, and be well secured in it, despite the movements that occur when turning the handle.
  2. The material used to make the handle is steel or aluminum; they can be painted bronze or gold, this is necessary to create a holistic interior design.

It should be borne in mind that the cost of fittings can account for up to 65% of the total cost of the door.
