Steel has increased strength and high load-bearing capacity. Aluminum is resistant to corrosion and is also lightweight, so profile structures made from it do not create a large load on the supporting system. - Tree.
This material is environmentally friendly and does not emit substances harmful to human health during operation. In addition, the tree has high strength and a uniquely beautiful texture.
Types of aluminum glazing for loggias and balconies
Cold
Used to protect the premises from wind, precipitation, dust. Organized in rooms that do not require thermal insulation. Installed in workshops, winter gardens, warehouses, balconies.
Warm
Mounted in living rooms, on warm loggias made of aluminum. To protect against cold, a heat-insulating polyurethane liner is placed inside the profile. It reliably insulates the cold.
Frame
Mounted from a standard width profile. Looks attractive. It is easy to install and therefore costs less. Compared to frameless windows, such windows let in less light, but they are stronger - you can glaze large loggias.
Frameless
Maximizes natural light in the room. It is created from a profile of small width. The seams are invisible from the street, which creates the impression of a single glass sheet. With such glass, winter gardens and loggias equipped for summer leisure look beautiful.
Swing
Most often used on spacious balconies, bay windows, loggias. Hinged doors are typical for a warm profile. They require more space when opening and allow you to safely wash windows inside and out. Often hinged sashes are combined with blind sashes - this way you can save on the profile system and fasteners. Sometimes this is required by the shape of the balcony room.
Sliding
What are the pros and cons of a sliding aluminum loggia?
There is more usable space here; you can place compact furniture and a clothes dryer. The doors take up minimal space and save space. The balcony has sliding aluminum glazing with a large light opening. It lets a lot of light into the room. Let us consider in detail the pros and cons of cold glazing of a balcony with aluminum.
Cost formation factors
The cost of profile systems is calculated individually for the Customer’s project and depends on the configuration and the following factors.
- Profile width.
As the width of the profile increases, its rigidity increases and the value of thermal resistance increases. A product with a thickness of 58 mm is cheaper than a similar option with a thickness of 70 mm. - Material.
The cost of profiles with a wooden texture is approximately 35% higher than the price of the standard metal version. - Number of cameras.
As their number increases, the thermal insulation properties of the structure increase. The more cameras the main profile contains, the higher its cost.

Swing and sliding systems
Glazing of a balcony or loggia requires the presence of opening sashes, the opening mechanism of which can be either hinged or sliding.
Swing systems
Doors with a rotary opening mechanism have the following advantages:
- A familiar option, quite convenient to use and maintain;
- Hinged sashes are equipped with fittings and seals, which together ensure maximum tightness of the glazing, which significantly improves the thermal insulation characteristics of the structure.
Despite the strengths of turning windows, they are used less and less on balconies. This is due to the fact that such an opening option requires a certain amount of internal space, of which there is not much on the balcony anyway. Stretching clotheslines or using a window sill within the opening radius will also not work.
Sliding systems
Unlike hinged sashes, sliding sashes leave the window sill free and do not occupy the useful space of the balcony at all. Modern designs are designed in such a way that the sash can be easily removed (much like a frame with a mosquito net in metal-plastic glazing), which makes such windows easy and safe to maintain.
In addition to positive qualities, there are also negative ones:
- Sliding fittings are not able to provide a tightness comparable to that of swing systems, which negatively affects thermal insulation in winter;
- The sash guides may become frozen in the cold season. As a result, opening a window requires significant effort, which does not always lead to the expected result.
Icing is observed on cold glazing in rooms with inconsistent or insufficient heating. While it’s warm on the balcony, condensation appears on the frames, which accumulates at the bottom of the structure and freezes over time.

Warm glazing
Of all aluminum systems, the share of warm glazing accounts for no more than 20%. Such low popularity is primarily due to the high weight of the structure and no less high price compared to plastic counterparts, despite the fact that the latter, as a rule, are superior to aluminum in energy efficiency. There are now quite a lot of specialized products available for the construction of translucent structures. Among all the diversity, the products of the Italian manufacturer NEWTEK (Newtek) and the joint German-Russian development ALUMARK are worthy of special mention.

The strengths of the profile systems of these manufacturers include:
- High level of thermal insulation. The installation size for double-glazed windows allows you to equip window structures with infill up to 40 mm thick. That is, it is possible to install a high-quality double-glazed window with thick energy-saving glass and gas filling. The profile itself consists of three layers - two aluminum on the outside and a polymer in the middle. Such solutions significantly reduce heat loss, which allows them to be used in cold climates. A balcony glazed with a warm profile can become an addition to the room if heating is installed there.
- Good absorption of external noise. A wide multi-layer profile and soundproofing glass with an asymmetrical formula allow the installation of warm aluminum systems in noisy areas, for example, near active construction or busy roads.
- High structural strength. Aluminum systems are significantly stronger than even metal-plastic products, not to mention wooden ones. This allows them to be used for continuous glazing of balconies or in panoramic structures, without the risk of deformation throughout the entire period of operation.
Flaws:
- First of all, it is heavy , compared to cold structures, which makes installation possible not on every balcony slab.
- Warm glazing made from aluminum profiles costs 2-3 times more than cold glazing . Its price is also higher than that of metal-plastic structures with similar thermal insulation characteristics.
