Armored windows – home protection at the highest level

You can install a steel door, set an alarm, get a bull terrier. However, these measures do not completely solve the issue of the safety of you and your loved ones.

There remains one more bottleneck - the windows! Why?

1 - windows do not protect against penetration;

2 - if the glass is damaged, heavy sharp fragments cause damage to property within a radius of a meter or two;

3 - if the glass is damaged, heavy sharp fragments will injure anyone who is within the radius of their scattering. And in some cases, even death is possible.

How can you secure your windows today?

The traditional way is to install metal bars or roller blinds on the windows of buildings. Yes, metal roller blinds or heavy grilles prevent you from getting inside. But they do not protect glass from breaking, because they do not create any obstacle for the same stone, stick, or bullet. And in the event of a fire, they are also a serious obstacle to evacuation through the window.

Have you ever heard of armor glazing?

Protect your windows or showcases with armored film, and you will stop worrying about this problem. This film is called anti-vandal, shockproof film for a reason.

What is this armored film suitable for?

Film for glass reservation solves your following problems:

The glass becomes impact-resistant, explosion-proof, burglary-proof, and bullet-resistant (Armored film seriously reduces the energy of a bullet and changes its trajectory)The glass becomes fire-resistant. Armored film 112 microns is able to “hold out” in an open flame for up to 35 minutes and does not form toxic combustion products.
The glass is protected on the back side from the scattering of fragments. Armored glass cracked after an impact or explosion is retained in the frame, without requiring urgent replacement and, at the same time, continues to perform its protective functions.You get armored windows that withstand a high-energy impact from the glass side. At the same time, they are destroyed by a low-energy impact from the film side. A kick or shoulder strike from the side of the room makes it possible for even a teenager to escape.

In accordance with GOST R 51136-98, the impact resistance of window film in three classes is:

RESERVATION CLASS A3 , thickness 600 microns - impact energy 382 J, withstands a three-time drop of a ball weighing 4 kg from a height of 9.5 m;

RESERVATION CLASS A2 , thickness 400 microns - impact energy 262 J, withstands a three-time drop of a ball weighing 4 kg from a height of 6.5 m;

RESERVATION CLASS A1 , thickness 300 microns - impact energy 141 J, withstands a three-time drop of a ball weighing 4 kg from a height of 3.5 m;

Additional benefits

Armored glass transmits less noise Noise insulation effect within 29 dBProtects against information leakage via acoustic, optical, electro-optical and radio frequency channelsDoes not impair visibility Optimal for banks, government offices, offices, shop windows, restaurants, pharmacies, museums

Explosion-proof glazing

It is rational to use impact-resistant film for glass surfaces or a similar coating in case of even the slightest threat to property. This is due to the fact that the main purpose of this type of film is to create mechanically resistant and explosion-proof glazing (class SB2D).

Security and Safety

The high strength of the protective film combined with optical transparency makes them the best means for protecting windows. One of the most important qualities that appear in a window with such a coating is shatterproofness. It is extremely difficult to damage a window with such a coating, but even if the glass is broken, the integrity of the structure will not be compromised. The fragments will simply remain on the film, and the window itself will continue to perform protective functions, since the glass will not fall out of the frame. Glass films also provide reliable rear protection.

Good afternoon, dear comrades. Considering the extreme events in Chelyabinsk, when many people suffered from glass fragments, I decided to share my experience and talk about protective films in an accessible way. I hope that after reading this article, each of you will decide whether he needs it or not.

Protective films for glass were invented in the 60s in the USA. The basis for them is lavsan (or polyester). As time passed, films began to be colored, they learned to spray various metals on them, and now we see them at every step, on the glass of buildings and cars, in offices where glass partitions are installed. But we must remember that the most important task of any tint film is to make the glass on which it is applied shatterproof. The most striking example of the use of protective films is their use on mirrors in wardrobes, which are found in almost every house or apartment; it is glued on the back side, and its task, in the event of a mirror breaking, is to prevent the formation of a deadly guillotine from mirror fragments, which can injure or even kill. When such a mirror breaks, 98-99% of the glass remains on the film.

Once again I would like to draw your attention to the fact that any film, colored or transparent, applied to glass makes it safe in case of breakage. Separately, I would like to highlight special reinforcing (they are also called impact-resistant or armoring) films. They come in different thicknesses, from 56 microns to 420. Compositions of glass + films of different thicknesses form a class of glass reinforced according to protection classes: A1, A2 and A3. There are other classes of protection, but they use triplex glass - when 2 or more glasses are connected to each other with a special film. The manufacturer is required to issue certificates for installed films according to protection classes. More details about protection classes can be found in the document called “RD 78”. Why is this necessary, you ask? I will answer - any, even the thickest, bars on the windows will not protect your windows from breaking in the event of an earthquake, terrorist attack, or blast wave. You can also throw a grenade or Molotov cocktail into the house through the bars, which cannot be done if a reinforcing film is applied to the glass. I’ll say right away that this is not a cheap pleasure, and not everyone can afford it; as a rule, film according to protection classes is installed in banks, in various law enforcement agencies, for example the FSB, in shop windows in shopping centers, etc. There are a great many manufacturers supplying film to the Russian market, and those who decide to protect their windows need to understand this a little. The highest quality, and, as is usually the case, more expensive, are American films, the most famous brand being Llumar. Next come Indian and Korean films, their quality is certainly lower, and I would not recommend installing them according to protection classes , even if you have a certificate. Now a few words about how we can protect our windows with our own hands. The technology of applying film to glass is simple, and you only need a little care.

I won’t give instructions for a professional toner; I’ll describe it briefly:

You will need the following tools: - a knife (a stationery or construction knife is suitable), - a sprayer (can be used for spraying flowers, which sprays water in a fine suspension) - Forcing. It’s a little more complicated with it - it’s better to use a professional one, you can easily get it for 150-250 rubles. But it can also be replaced, for example, with a damaged credit card or something similar. -Handle with rubber, for washing glass. -Table, clean and preferably large. It is better to perform the operation together. The film is applied from the side of the room, in no case from the street. First of all, we wash the glass using special liquids for washing and degreasing - they are found in every home. It is important that there is no dust or micro-hairs left on the glass - otherwise all this will be visible later. Next, we measure the size of the glass and cut out the film that you decide to stick on it. There are 2 options - when the beads are removed from the plastic window and the film is tucked under them (this is more aesthetically pleasing but also more labor-intensive) - in this case you will need a thin chisel to pull out the bead and a rubber hammer to hammer this bead back. If you decide to remove the glazing bead, cut out the film with a margin of about 1-2 cm larger than the size of the glass. The second option is when the glazing bead cannot be removed, and the film needs to be cut 2-3 mm smaller than the size of the glass. Pour regular clean water into the spray bottle, add a few drops of Johnson baby shampoo, or in extreme cases, Fairy. The liquid should slide slightly between your fingers. The fact is that the film has an adhesive layer, with very strong glue, it is covered with a liner, which must be removed before gluing. To prevent instant adhesion of the film to the glass, we spray both the glass and the adhesive layer generously with this liquid. After the film has been applied to the glass (it should move easily from place to place through the liquid), align its edges and begin to force out (drive out) moisture from under the film, from the middle to the edges. If the film has moved, or there is a large air bubble under it, it can be lifted or adjusted. After the moisture has finally been driven out, put the glazing beads in place (if they were removed). If there are small air bubbles, you can pierce them with a thin needle and squeeze the air out of them. Particular attention should be paid to the edges, which may come unstuck and will need to be “rolled” again. In general, there is nothing complicated. And if you simply want to protect yourself and your household from possible injuries, purchase any colored or transparent film and apply it to your glass. The fragments will not be scary for you. Let me give you an idea of the cost - a transparent protective film 112 microns thick, made in Korea, will cost you around 100 rubles per 1 sq.m. (the quality of the Korean film is quite enough to hold glass fragments on itself). Let me give you a simple calculation. Let's take a 2-room apartment, it has 3 windows and a balcony door. The average glass area in a double-hung window is 1.5 sq.m. Those. 3 sq.m. you need 2 windows, and another maximum of 2.5 sq.m. on a window with a balcony door. 6 sq.m., approximately 600 rubles for film, hands and several hours of free time. Separately, I would like to draw your attention to the protection of car windows. All the glass in the car, except the windshield, is tempered glass, which shatters into small pieces upon impact. In the event of a collision or accident, if the glass breaks, these fragments scatter throughout the cabin and often leave behind cuts. Therefore, despite state prohibitions, I recommend tinting not only the rear of the car, but also the front. Moreover, there are a large number of films on the market that meet GOST standards; they also protect you from fragments, but in addition they protect the car interior from IR rays, and the interior becomes less hot.

There are also special car protective films, their task is to make it difficult for a burglar to break your car window in order to pull out a handbag, purse or manito from the interior.

Whether to protect your windows (or rather yourself and your household) or not is a decision that everyone makes individually, but the main thing you need to understand is that you need to take care of your safety in advance, and not after something happens.

What advantages does the product have?

Reserving double-glazed windows will first of all prevent your property from theft. The criminal will not be able to get into the premises by breaking a window. The method also has other advantages:

  • Unlike roller shutters or grilles, films do not spoil the appearance of windows; they are completely invisible, do not attract attention and do not create inconvenience during use.
  • The material can resist fire, which increases the protective capabilities of windows.
  • Application to glass is not difficult, even if you do it yourself.
  • The films protect well from sunlight, so the furniture in the room will not fade and the wallpaper will not change color. Many indoor plants will feel more comfortable, the owners will not suffer from the heat in the summer, and the lighting of the rooms will not be affected.
  • The film will significantly reduce the noise level, since even a thick double-glazed window still has sound conductivity through the glass.
  • The decorative nature of the material allows you to refine the window and disguise it as stained glass if you use a colored version.
  • The material protects well from splinters.
  • When using even the thinnest film, the strength of glass increases 4 times. If part of the surface is damaged, it is quite difficult to break the window completely; to do this, the attacker must spend a lot of time, which will attract the attention of others.
  • The film can also be useful for glass repair. If a small crack has formed on it, and you do not want to change the double-glazed window, you can apply a film that will not only hermetically seal the resulting damage, but will also prevent the crack from growing.

What is this material?

Armoring protective film consists of a polymer composition, most often transparent, with a layer of metal on the surface. It is produced in various thicknesses. But even the thinnest glass can make glass able to withstand impacts from small objects. Moreover, even if it is broken, the fragments will remain glued, which will allow others to avoid injury.

Watch a video about this product:

Depending on its thickness, the armoring film allows the glass to withstand even impacts from tools, such as:

  • Hammer;
  • Axe;
  • Reinforcing rod.

Today this protective material is used in a wide variety of premises. Moreover, it will equally well protect people in the room from shards of broken glass resulting from a crime or natural disaster.
