Stucco decorative elements of the facade
The quality and durability of the finishing of the facade largely depends on the correctly selected window frames. The decor of window openings and slopes is also important, which can become the main accent of a spectacular facade. And finally, the design of façade windows depends on the chosen cladding and insulation option.
If the location and shape of the windows depends on the design of the cottage, then the finishing frame can be chosen at your discretion. It seems like such a small thing - stylish slopes and trim on window frames, but they can completely change the appearance of the facade.
Extraordinary solutions will decorate any, even the simplest cladding, for example, plaster with foam insulation.
Paper snowflakes
Snowflakes with paper are the most common way to decorate New Year's windows by hand.
Each of us at least once in childhood.
To make them we need:
- round plate.
- white or colored sheet of paper.
- pencil.
- scissors.
- Toilet soap.
The operating principle is as follows:
On a piece of paper, place a circle at the top of the size you want your snowflake to be. Draw an outline around the plate with a pencil, so that the same circle appears on the paper.
Cleaning the paper will make cutting the snowflakes easier and more sensitive.
- Shorten the circle and cross it in half three times.
- Make a pencil drawing on the resulting cone and then cut off the inside with scissors.
We opened the newspaper and received an original and beautiful snowflake.
If it turns out to be Minty, it can be ironed at a low temperature.
If you make these ornaments from thin porous paper, after cutting the snowflake, it can be painted with watercolors on both sides.
What should the slopes be like?
Whatever the slopes are made of, their main task is to tightly close the gaps between the frame and the wall so that the mounting foam and seals are not exposed to moisture. This issue is especially relevant if windows have been replaced.
Plastered slopes are the cheapest option. Can be used for any type of finishing. The disadvantage of plaster is its short service life, so you will have to monitor the appearance of cracks.
Finishing with plasterboard gives better results compared to plaster. The material is more durable, cracks will not appear. The disadvantage is that it is glued to the external slopes of the windows, after which it is puttied and painted.
Foam slopes. Easy to install and last a long time. They are aesthetically pleasing, do not rust, and retain their appearance. Good thermal insulation.
Wooden slopes. Suitable exclusively for wooden facades. The material is expensive and requires precise selection according to the type of wood. The option is expensive. If the quality of the wood is poor, it will swell and crack. Preventive measures are necessary.
Slopes made of plastic panels. They are in consumer demand. You need to choose very carefully, since plastic for interior decoration will quickly warp and turn yellow when used outdoors.

The best way to frame plastic windows
The most practical thing that can be advised to a home specialist is to choose window frames that match the material of the facade or interior decoration of the room. And if the exterior decoration is made of vinyl or siding panels, then stone products will not fit it - there is no normal installation method, and the house will look ridiculous.
Variations
Wet finishing technology
This technique of framing plastic windows is based on the use of a plaster mixture, and can be perfectly combined with stone, brick, wood or vinyl facades. First, you should seal all the cracks with construction foam, level and remove excess, but if the structure turns out to be massive, then it is better to pre-reinforce the window openings. Upon completion, it is recommended to sand it and paint it with a special facade paint, and the frame will be ready. But you can see how a wet façade is installed

Artificial stone frame
Most sell small stone parts of a wide variety of configurations. The principle is to create an original mosaic pattern, and the more varied in color the individual pieces are, the more original the decor of the façade windows
You should also pay attention to what it looks like and how to use it correctly

Stucco finishing options
On the market you can find products made from a wide variety of materials - gypsum, concrete, polyurethane, foam. In any case, they must be mounted only on a perfectly flat surface, otherwise distortions can simply damage the products during installation.
Framing plastic windows with stucco molding
Do-it-yourself false window from a mirror
Quite interesting solutions include the use of mirror surfaces in a room that falls into the small category. Thus, you can easily visually expand the boundaries of a small room. As a base you will need to use tiles or a full mirror. In fact, this will be an ordinary mirror built into the window frame.
Mirror false window
Installation is carried out on a flat surface, and there is no need to make any niches. However, the surface of the wall must be perfectly flat. Attaching a false window can be done in several ways.
In the first and, perhaps, the simplest case, the installation of individual elements of the structure itself is done - the glass is attached, and the frame is glued to it. To make the frame, a wooden board, plastic or any other material that could have been used to decorate the room earlier can be used.
DIY false window from a mirror. The wood is cut out and glued to the mirror base
In the second case, the already assembled and cut structure is fastened. To begin with, a frame with a lattice is attached, which will resemble a binding. Elements of tiles or mirrors of a certain size are cut out for existing niches, and then they are attached separately to each opening. Afterwards the structure is installed on the working surface.

There is no point in covering such false windows with curtains, since their main task will be to reflect the room, making it visually more spacious.
Types of bricks
For the arrangement of windows, the same types of bricks are used as for cladding the walls.
The most common varieties:
- Hyper pressed rounded. It is made from dolomite, limestone, marble, stone chips and waste from crushed stone production. The mixture of initial components is moistened and pressed under ultra-high pressure, after which the particles combine and form a solid and durable material. In terms of performance characteristics, it is close to natural stone. Price – 20-30 rub.
- Shaped single hollow. Ceramic brick, a characteristic feature of which is the presence of one rounded cut. This makes it an excellent option for window coverings. Products differ in the shape of the voids: they can be round, square, closed on one side. Price – 28-25 rubles.
- Clinker relief. It differs from ceramic products in a more complex production process and a relatively high price, but it also surpasses them in performance characteristics. It is made from a special type of clay fired at a temperature of 1200 degrees. Facing options have a relief surface. Price – 30-40 rubles.
- Glazed. It is characterized by a wide variety of decorative solutions, since the glazed surface can imitate wood, stone and even leather. It also increases the resistance of the material to moisture and wind. But due to the complex production technology, such products are among the most expensive, their price is in the range of 200-400 rubles per piece.
- Sand-lime brick. The cheapest option, made from lime with the addition of sand and other materials. The price of the product is 10-20 rubles, but sand-lime brick has significant disadvantages: low strength, a small variety of decorative solutions.
Crossbar glazing
The most popular glazing system is the classic one, the most reliable and practical is the mullion-transom system. Thanks to its unique capabilities, SRS can be installed in structures of various shapes. The system mechanism secures the glass unit in the frame structure as reliably and safely as possible. The SRS got its name from the fastening.
The main element of the construction is the load-bearing vertical posts, onto which horizontal beams are attached, taking on the main burden of the load. The metal frame is located on the inside of the wall, so it is practically invisible from the outside.

General information
The construction industry is developing very rapidly, and the market for construction and finishing materials is regularly replenished with new high-tech materials, which allow expanding the field of activity of designers and architects.
New and modern finishing materials make it possible to make the framing of your home's windows stylish, original, attractive and durable. For decorative window framing, materials such as brick, natural stone, gypsum, polyurethane panels, wood and other materials can be successfully used. Most often you can see the framing of openings on the facade with brick and wood.
The choice of material directly depends on the goals that the home owner achieves. In addition, it should be remembered that framing with brick, wood, polyurethane slabs and other materials allows you to create an original style of window framing.
Other places to install decorative windows
A window in the ceiling is a relatively new and original solution, which is applicable for small corridors, rooms where the space is small, but the walls are cluttered with various interior items.
Using false windows with lighting on the ceiling
The ceiling structure looks much more interesting than a decorative window on the wall. It is especially good in combination with a suspended ceiling. A false window inserted into it will create the feeling of an endless roof and make the design very unusual. To do this, the suspended ceiling must have a niche of a suitable size. In general, the technology used to create such a window on the ceiling is no different from a similar structure mounted on the wall.

Window decoration
To make the curtain look more beautiful, the finished canvas should be 3 times more spacious than the cornice.
It should also be taken into account that curtains must be combined in color and texture with pillows, bedspreads, tablecloths, bolsters, covers on armchairs and sofas.
Such an element of window decor as a lambrequin is widely known. More often it is a strip of fabric, the same kind of curtains are made of, which is placed horizontally above the window and covers the upper part of the curtains.
As a decorative element, designers often use curtain rods made of steel, wood, aluminum, and bamboo.
The curtain is the final element. The window can be decorated with several or one panel of fabric of similar colors. Perhaps go a different route and choose contrasting colors. Muslin, transparent artificial fabrics and medium-weight fabrics drape well.
Fabric with a contrasting lining can be wrapped around the cornice, and the curtains can be hung in a cascading wave.

Structural glazing of facades
The facade is the outer side of any building, its “face”
When assessing the appearance of a building, we first of all pay attention to its façade, which is why façade work is given the closest attention these days
The most popular facade work today includes façade glazing. It makes the building look spectacular, modern and attractive, allowing you to realize the most…
Construction of facades using a modular method
Until recently, sparkling facades made entirely of glass were very popular. Today, architects prefer to combine glass with expensive facing materials - steel, ceramics, terracotta - to create durable and stylish facades.
In this case, the technology of constructing curtain block external walls is used. This method allows you to assemble glazed elements and large panels directly at the factory, and...
Plaster systems with insulation. Insulation materials and technology for their fastening
Plaster systems with insulation are a layer of insulation fixed to the facade and plastered using special technologies.
Insulation plays one of the most important roles in this process - many characteristics of the finished facade depend on the insulation - thermal conductivity, moisture resistance, as well as the location of the dew point and the negative temperature zone.
To prepare the wall for installation of insulation,…
Plaster systems with insulation. Technology
Anything can serve as the basis for a plaster system - reinforced concrete slabs, solid or hollow bricks, multi-slot concrete blocks, even wooden beams, but only if the house has already undergone final shrinkage. The plaster system for walls made of “warm” cellular blocks should be designed with particular care.
As a rule, they do not need a large layer of insulation, but high...
Plaster systems with insulation. General information
There are two ways to plaster facades – with insulation and without insulation.
“Warm” facades are both the insulation of the house required by SNiP and a beautiful finish. Plaster systems are much more effective in terms of saving heat than any other methods of finishing facades, since they do not have rigid connections (fasteners, etc.), which theoretically could...
Spider glazing
The glazing system got its name thanks to high-strength steel fasteners that look like spider legs. It is known that the English word “spider” translated into Russian means “spider”. The main function of spiders is to connect double-glazed windows to each other and attach them to the main supporting frame. Only in appearance they seem so flawed and weak. In fact, high-alloy steel makes them truly durable and invulnerable. The part can last for many years.
The spider system is classified as a cold type of facade glazing. The glass placed in such double-glazed windows is either tempered or multilayer (triplex). Although the weight of triplex clearly exceeds the weight of ordinary glass, the level of protection and strength due to the shockproof function will also be an order of magnitude higher.
Large glazing of the building
Nice drawings on the window
Decorate beautiful and simple windows for the new year with your hands and place them on the windows with new year drawings.
To do this, you only need toothpaste diluted with water.
How to do this in different ways:
Make a small round sponge. To do this, make a piece of foam rubber, lay it down and secure it with self-adhesive tape so that it does not turn. The dissolved toothpaste is placed in a plate, brushed and pressed onto the window, leaving a dot, taking a fir branch. If you have templates at home, you can prepare Christmas toys and animals. When the paste is dry, rub all parts with a sharp fork.
The second method is based on spray technology - very original drawings were obtained. First, cut the snowflake and attach it to the window. Then take a toothbrush and thoroughly soak it in the toothpaste, then press down on the bottom bristles and spray the mixture onto the snowflake. When it dries, remove the snowflakes. There will be a beautiful path on the glass.
The first spray is very large, so first you need to shake the toothbrush and get rid of excess moisture.
You can also draw not only toothpaste, but also an old crowbar, but here you will need a little talent.
Semi-structural
It emerged as a predecessor to structural glazing and is a hybrid of the two systems.
Its peculiarity is the absence of 50 mm clamping strips used on traditional facades.
Instead, 38 mm ones are installed, almost invisible, having a narrow decorative strip imitating a structural seam.Window decoration options
From being multifunctional components, drapes, curtains and curtains have long moved into the category of room decoration. Shopping centers and showrooms present a diverse selection of products from different countries to suit every taste. Not counting the collections of curtains, cornices, curtains, lambrequins, pleated and roller blinds, horizontal and vertical blinds. Therefore, before going shopping, you need to find out what will suit a specific living space and how the chosen option will look consistent in a single interior.

Corduroy, velor, silk, tulle, chintz, satin, cotton, twill, linen, tweed, jacquard, taffeta - these curtain fabrics have not gone out of fashion for several centuries. Today's fashion is characterized by eclecticism and democracy, a wide range of styles, fabrics and colors.
Now they have been supplemented with artificial and “ecological” fabrics, mixed: natural with the addition of artificial thread, silk and cotton fabrics.
Among the products that carry scientific and technical manufacturing features, there are curtains treated with a special anti-fading composition; they are not recommended to be washed, but to be dry cleaned to give them freshness.
New products in advanced textiles include fabrics with patterns created by acid, thick tulle, and interior-looking fabrics made from metallized thread.
When choosing one or another fabric, you should take into account the dimensions of the room and the shape of the window openings.
For high ceilings and huge window openings, lush and long curtains are recommended; when the ceiling is not high, folds and lush components should be used most carefully
In what cases is it worth installing decorative structures?
Imitating a window opening will help decorate the space and correct shortcomings.
It should be installed in the room in the following cases:
The availability of modern materials and the use of technology makes it possible to create false windows of various shapes and sizes. The selected landscape can appear as a two-dimensional or more realistic three-dimensional image.
Self-installation
The variety of options for designing openings using polyurethane is reflected in numerous design projects with different levels of complexity. Installation on the facade is carried out in the shortest possible time, which is due to the ease of processing and installation of polyurethane elements. Fastening polyurethane parts to the facade can be done using glue or self-tapping screws.
For polyurethane decoration on the facade, you will need to purchase elements, the type and quantity of which will depend on the number, size and shape of the windows. Manufacturers of ready-made frames produce the following elements:
- sandriks of various sizes;
- arches of different sizes;
- round windows;
- wall panels and various false shutters;
- polyurethane moldings;
- cornice strips;
- radius moldings and cornice strips.
A decorative element of a façade window frame in the form of a platband is intended for finishing a window from the sides and top. As a rule, the type of platband is selected in accordance with the stylization of the entire building.
Platbands in the style of the Greek order system have been very popular lately. The use of platbands in the framing of window openings contributes to the visual expansion of space.
For the facade of a house in a classic style, you can choose a platband that will stand out with its protrusions above the wall plane. It is allowed to color the element.
A very interesting and original option is the use of window framing elements in the form of columns and pilasters. This design creates an overall impression of nobility and grace.
It should be remembered that each decorative element of the window frame must correspond to its purpose and advantageously emphasize all the features. Decorative elements can transform any type of building and are successfully used in the external design of both small private houses and multi-storey buildings.
The variety of decorative window elements produced on the basis of polystyrene foam in the style of antiquity, baroque, modern or classicism makes it possible to realize any stylistic idea easily and at the lowest cost.

High-quality and modern decoration of window openings on any building can become an original and fashionable decoration of the facade.
How to make a simple false window with your own hands
If we consider purchasing a false window design with lighting, the family budget will be seriously undermined. It’s a completely different matter when it comes to self-assembling such a structure using the most common materials. First, you need to decide on the dimensions of the future design and choose the right photo wallpaper. The picture should correspond to the general style of the room.
False window in the kitchen
Total you will need:
- buy photo wallpaper;
- acquire a basic set for any beginning craftsman;
- You can also order a picture you like from a printing house if the photo wallpaper is not to your liking (this is the only way to get a truly realistic and rich picture).
When making a false window yourself, you should prepare the following materials and tools:
Screwdriver | Fluorescent light bulbs |
Hammer | Round and flat brushes |
Hammer | Acrylic or water-based paint |
Electric drill | Spatulas |
Fastenings | putty |
Several sets of screws and dowels | Rollers |
Transformer | Drywall sheets |
Wooden trims | Picture of the required size |
Upcoming manipulations
- First you need to equip a small niche 20 cm deep from plasterboard. This is how you can create the necessary recess for subsequent installation of the window. The box will also contain lighting elements, if they were used.
- Platbands are installed strictly at an angle of 45°.
- Each element is coated with two layers of varnish or paint.
- The structure itself is subject to putty and left alone for a while, after which the surface is covered with water-based paint.
- It is necessary to apply markings in the existing box for subsequent installation of lighting fixtures (if any will be used). Holes are made through which the wires will be fed.
- To attach individual elements, dowels are used, for which holes are also drilled.
- A transformer should be placed between the light bulbs, which will allow the system to be combined into a single whole.
- The lower right hole is used for the wire outlet for the switch.
- Instead of fluorescent lamps, you can always use LED strips.
- The photopanel is fixed to the structure using screws.
- Platbands are placed around the entire perimeter of the structure.
- The screws should be painted over with paint.
Designers recommend removing the wall under the window, thus making the canvas cover the entire wall. To give the picture more realistic highlights and colors, you should use glass, arrange a cornice, attach a window sill and use transparent fabric, which can be tulle. Fresh flowers in such a recreation area will only decorate and emphasize the comfort of the room.
Most decorators agree that the use of false windows allows you to add zest to any room, making it more cozy and comfortable. Thus, you can slightly update the boring interior of the room without spending a huge amount of money.
To make false windows, you can use improvised materials, and replace the panels with your own drawing or printed photograph. This way costs will be kept to a minimum. With the help of such structures, you can get additional lighting in the room by decorating it in such an unusual way. False windows can be installed in any premises, regardless of their functional purpose, size and quality of repairs performed before. Good luck in your endeavors!

Curtains for children's room
The place where a child lives is the territory of play and fairy tales. Here you can do everything that is “not allowed” in a living room or bedroom: contrasting colors, unusual designs, bright children’s curtains with cords, flags, and images of cartoon characters. It is from this cheerful mosaic of color and pattern that a feeling of joy is created. That is why you need to buy curtains for a nursery, focusing on your own imagination and taste. Bows, ties, frills - all this is quite acceptable in the design of a nursery, especially if you are arranging a room for a girl. And the boy will most likely like fabrics with thematic patterns or appliqués
When ordering curtains for a children's room, pay attention to blue-blue and yellow-orange shades. But they cannot be black, gray, or brown - this is contraindicated for the baby
Home wall decor
Also, with the help of interfloor molding, we visually reduce the not always proportional height of the house. And the final piece in the set of façade decorations for the walls of a private house is the plinth strip. This element is primarily a logical separator between the basement part of the structure and the main wall. The base profile can also perform technical functions - smoothing out the difference between the protrusions of the wall and the base, drip edge, etc.
Below are several examples of facade decoration on the corner of a house. You can see more ready-made design options for the entire house facade HERE.
Finishing technology
Using brick to frame windows presents a number of difficulties
It is important to maintain the symmetry of all elements. If the window sizes do not meet the standards or are located disproportionately on the facade, then the framing will make design errors even more noticeable
To avoid this, before starting facing work, it may be necessary to change the size of the window openings, which is carried out by trimming bricks or dismantling the wall.
The complexity of the work and the cost of material depend on what shape is chosen for the window opening: rectangular, round or arched. The easiest way to frame rectangular windows.
IMPORTANT! Brick edging of windows is carried out only during wall cladding or during large-scale repair work.
Laying process
The most common method of laying brick when edging windows is "quarter". The essence of this option is that the products are laid with the butt (that is, the narrow side) forward, and they protrude a quarter of their length above the wall surface.
Algorithm for using this method:
- The bricks are cut in half along their length. Half the length of a standard brick (25 mm) is 12.5 mm, a quarter (protrusion length) is 6.25 mm. You need to cut the products with a grinder with a diamond wheel; you can deviate from the required dimensions by a maximum of 5-10 mm.
- To ensure that the bricks are positioned evenly in relation to each other, it is convenient to use templates. In rectangular windows, its function is performed by metal corners mounted in the opening and coated with an anti-corrosion solution. In round and arched windows, wooden templates of appropriate shapes are used as templates.
- The gaps formed when installing the “quarters” must be sealed with polyurethane foam. In order to save it, you should not make the protrusions of the frame in front of the wall too large.
- The window frame and the main masonry of the wall must be connected with a reinforcing wire mesh 3 mm thick with cell dimensions of 50 x 50 mm.
"Quarter" is the simplest and most universal method. Other methods differ from it in that they involve laying bricks at other angles, for example, spoon forward, both standing and lying down. By alternating pokes and spoons (or vertical and horizontal spoons), you can create a variety of designs reminiscent of jagged patterns and checkerboards.
IMPORTANT! During the work process, you need to ensure that the rows are positioned strictly horizontally. The most convenient way to do this is with a building level
Additionally, there are two approaches to masonry: “rough” and “finishing”. “Rough” masonry involves applying plaster to the structure after completion of the work. This allows you to level out mistakes made in aligning protrusions, working with gaps and distributing cement mortar.
But exquisite decorative solutions can only be realized with a “finishing” insert, which requires artistic precision and the use of high-quality materials. This option does not allow the application of additional coatings.

A simple false window with lighting with your own hands: video and comments
In order to fully understand how to make a false window on the wall, so that you can then complete all the work quickly and accurately, you will first have to prepare thoroughly. You will need to decide on the surface of the window, because it can be just a picture, or maybe a mirror; you need to collect all the necessary tools, equipment, as well as materials that will definitely be useful in the work. The simplest option is to purchase beautiful photo wallpaper depicting a picturesque landscape, and then decorate it in the form of a light box, which is quite possible to do with your own hands and get an excellent result.
Imitating a window on the wall with your own hands will require the following materials and tools:
- Photo wallpaper or a drawing that is just right for you in size and theme. Here you need to make sure that the picture or photo wallpaper fits perfectly into the rest of the interior and does not stand out from it.
- A glass panel for the window, but it is better to take colorless plastic, no more than two millimeters thick.
- Good glue, for example “Titanium”, as well as regular polyurethane foam.
- A large construction or stationery knife with an oblique blade.
- A decorative frame for a window, it can be an old window frame and glued moldings, or even just a picture frame.
- LED strip, as well as wires and transformers for it. As for the characteristics, you need to consult the store, the main thing is that the connections do not require complex soldering.
- Foil, covering material, for example, leatherette.
- A fairly large sheet of plywood, the size of which covers your future false window.
Thus, to get a high-quality imitation of a backlit window with your own hands, you really won’t need to spend a lot of money at all, but you will really have to tinker, you should also stock up on pliers and screwdrivers, which every home craftsman always has on hand, you should also take a hammer and prepare some tape , a small piece of sandpaper, a drill and screws.
Preparing the box: how to make an imitation window on the wall quickly and easily
Provided that you took a glass panel, you need to immediately cut it to size upon purchase, because cutting this material at home will not be easy, especially without the appropriate experience. When choosing a glass panel, you will have to make a frame from wood, and then insert glass into it, and for greater reliability, it will have to be installed with silicone sealant. This is much more labor-intensive and complex than a structure made of conventional plastic, which can be purchased at a construction market without much difficulty or extra costs.
If plastic is chosen as the base, by the way, you can take it not transparent, but matte, there will be a much greater effect of light scattering, then you should not rush to remove the protective film from its surface. The thing is that it scratches extremely easily, it can be damaged and ruin everything. Now you need to cut out the necessary templates for the box from plastic. There should be ten of them in number, and it makes sense to first draw and cut out the parts from cardboard, and only then transfer them to plastic.
- The front surface of the box, that is, exactly the place where the picture will be pasted, must correspond to the size of that same image, and the frame, but minus two centimeters in order to be able to bend the picture on all sides. All measurements should be made very carefully.
- Four sides of the box for the lid, ten or even twelve centimeters high, depending on the width of the LED strip, the size of the transformer, and so on.
- The bottom of the box also needs to be made according to the size of the front surface, but it is worth subtracting half a centimeter on each side so that it can be used to close the box by inserting it inside the structure.
- You will also need four more walls for the bottom, the same size as for the lid.
Next, you need to glue this entire structure together, and most often a caustic substance such as dichloroethane is used for plastic. It is quite dangerous, tends to ignite, is also overly aggressive and has an unpleasant odor, to put it mildly. It’s better not to use it at home, especially since it won’t give much harshness.
Therefore, it is advisable to take “Titanium”, which is recommended for use in household purposes for gluing a variety of PVC structures. In order for the corners to hold more firmly, you should glue pieces of plastic corner to them on the inside, which is sold by linear meters and costs mere pennies. If desired, of course, you can drill holes and secure the system with metal corners to the bolts, but this will significantly spoil the appearance.
Making false windows: video instructions illustrate all stages and details of the work
So, everything is ready and even the box has already been assembled, it’s time to make a beautiful and unique false window of your own production from it, which you can show to guests as a highlight of your home. It is worth paying very close attention to ensure that all the angles of your structure strictly correspond to ninety degrees, otherwise everything will look crooked and untidy, and maybe you simply won’t be able to assemble everything as needed.
- You will need to cover the bottom of the box with reflective foil, which allows you to produce the maximum lighting effect. You can also study the question of how to make a false window from mirrored plastic, then there will simply be no need to use foil, but such material will cost much more. Regular food foil will work here, so no need to worry.
- The LED strip should be chosen to be low-power, but with a very close arrangement of diodes so that the light is as uniform as possible. Such tape is sold in five-meter rolls, and for us, for example, for the size of a meter window, thirty meters, we will need to buy five similar spools.
- Don’t forget to also take care of purchasing a 450 or even 600 Watt transformer.
- The tape needs to be cut along the length of the box, in our particular case, in pieces of one meter and thirty centimeters. Make sure that it is permissible to connect no more than three similar strips in series, otherwise the transformer will not have enough power. In all other cases, you need to glue the strips in parallel. We glue the strips to the reflective foil, connect them to the transformer and connect them to the outlet with a regular twisted pair of copper wire.
- A pre-selected image is glued to the lid of the box. However, there are some points to consider here. For example, glue strips may be visible in the light, so you need to glue only where the picture bends over the edges of the box.
- Along the perimeter on the sides, in order to cover the edges of the picture and make such a window aesthetically beautiful and neat, you can simply paste it over with leatherette, thick fabric, self-adhesive oilcloth, and so on.
Next, you just need to fasten the two parts of the box, and the further the lid is from the bottom, the weaker the picture will be illuminated. You will need to make a special niche in the wall, slightly larger than the size of your improvised additional false window, where you need to insert it, connecting the wires to the switch. The window should be flush, and either a window frame or a picture frame is attached to the top, or simply the whole thing is covered with moldings, which also looks quite attractive.
Other variations
To ensure that the frame lasts a long time and does not deteriorate due to changeable weather, it is better to use ready-made sheet materials for this purpose. These can be galvanized metal panels, vinyl or ready-made siding products (here’s how to insulate a wooden house from the outside with mineral wool under siding, it is indicated), the choice will depend on the purpose of the house - if it’s a kitchen, then you can use less expensive materials, and for the main house and natural stone.
Framing (edging) windows on the facade of a residential building or any other building helps to significantly improve the external appearance of the building and gives it grace and completeness. Currently, a large number of materials for facade stucco are produced. A significant part of them is characterized not only by high quality, but also by accessibility.
Finishing the doorway and windows in the same style
How to properly install polystyrene foam on the facade of a house
To give it a stylish look, we decided to install window sills made of acrylic stone under white marble on the first floor. They are durable, repel water and are not afraid of frost and UV rays. They look more solid and elegant than standard plastic moldings. Place brackets and moldings under them. On top there is a wide sandstone with a triangular protrusion in the center.
Window finishing
To increase the width of the doorway, we mounted pilasters on the sides, creating the illusion of semi-columns. Similar wide consoles decorated the windows. Moldings along the perimeter of the frame emphasized the geometry of the lines and their severity.
On the second floor they installed a plastic window sill, platbands, and along the side wall the opening was finished with false shutters with an arched sandstone. On the front side of the facade, they imitated the cladding of the walls around the opening with rustication. At the top were keystones and molding.
A realtor I know, after we completed framing the windows and transforming the facade, said that the value of the house had risen by 30%. A correctly created façade image is of great importance. After all, it is the exterior of the house that makes the main impression.
In addition, we have significantly improved the thermal insulation of windows. The exterior decoration not only decorated it, but also reliably protected the walls from getting wet. It became quieter inside; there was almost no noise from outside. The light frame enhanced the natural lighting of the rooms.
Decorative elements for window framing
Agree, you won’t surprise anyone today with ordinary slopes. How then can you improve the appearance of your home? For these purposes, various elements and techniques are used that can be combined with the previously described types of slopes.
1.You can frame the windows with polyurethane linings. They are installed with glue, so you need to ensure a level base with good adhesion. They are also suitable for brick walls.
Polyurethane pads
2. Smooth plastered slopes will serve as an excellent basis for finishing with various decorative materials. The photo shows an option for decorating the outside of a window with decorative artificial stone. Clinker and porcelain tiles will also look beautiful.

3. Extruded polystyrene foam is also used for similar purposes. Such systems consist of corner elements and a straight profile. Everything is put on glue. You can choose any color from those available, or paint the material yourself.

4. In cases of updating the facade using decorative brickwork, the windows can be lined separately with shaped products to give them an unusual, beautiful look.

5. At an affordable price, you can use the services of professional craftsmen who can create such stucco masterpieces. Such windows look very beautiful, luxurious and rich.

6. Sandrik is a small architectural element above the window, which can be made of concrete, plaster, polyurethane and foam. The difficulty of installing the part depends on the material.
Above the window there is a decorative element - sandrik
7. A pyramidal or wedge-shaped decorative element made from the same materials. Installed at the top of a vault or arch, above the window.

8. You can install a false baluster under the window.

It is worth noting that determining the necessary decorative elements is quite a complex matter. If you overdo it, then instead of beauty you will end up with wild pretentiousness and bad taste, so do not be afraid to consult professionals. Of course, they charge money for their services, but remember that you are creating the appearance of the house and will be looking at it for many years, and only positive emotions should arise from contemplation for you and the audience.

Modular glazing
The modular type is a modified version of the mullion-transom glazing system. Only thanks to a separate approach to installation and design, it stands out in a separate category. The components are the same, only the modular system is much more practical and can significantly reduce the loss of time, because they are initially designed not as autonomous parts-stained-glass windows, but as a system of modules or blocks that already consist of several stained-glass windows.

General information
Like other facing materials, brick performs protective and decorative functions. It reduces heat loss in the building, prevents the penetration of moisture into internal structures, and partially protects windows from mechanical stress, increasing their strength.
The decorative function is manifested in the ability to create various patterns, adjust the thickness of the layer of materials, thereby changing the amount of sunlight entering the rooms. The frame visually highlights the windows against the background of the walls.
In most cases, polyurethane foam is used to secure window frames. Without external protection, it becomes deformed and becomes covered with cracks. This happens within 1-2 months after its application; exposure to moisture accelerates the process. Timely framing helps prevent such negative phenomena.
Other materials used for framing:
- Stone. Framing with stone requires the use of a large number of elements and significant labor costs.
- Tree. Allows you to decorate windows in the classic Russian style. Relatively expensive material.
- Elements made of polyurethane. They combine ease of installation and high performance characteristics.
- Wood-polymer composite.
- Plastic panels. They are inexpensive and easy to install, but do not allow the implementation of complex decorative solutions.
NOTE! The materials used for window decoration must be combined with the building wall cladding materials. Thus, a brick frame looks good against the background of brick walls, and is less compatible with a wooden or plastic facade
Mirror window
If the space in the room is small, you can use mirrored false windows that will help visually expand it. You can also make such a decorative window on the wall with your own hands. To do this, you will need to purchase a mirror or mirror tile: it will be needed to make a sash window. The mirror is inserted instead of ordinary glass, and the frame itself can be used ready-made. The product is mounted on a flat wall; in this case, a niche is not required.
There are several options for creating such a design. The first is the simplest: a finished frame made of any materials, such as wood or plastic, is mounted on the wall. Then a mirror sheet is installed, on top of which the wicker elements are fixed. To create a realistic effect, it is recommended to install a window sill and use curtains.
The second option involves installing a solid structure, that is, you first need to insert a mirror tile, which is made of plexiglass or polystyrene, into the frame, then the finished window is mounted on the wall.
The imitation window on the wall should not be covered with a thick curtain, otherwise it will lose its ability to increase space.

Framing windows on the facade of the house photo
Traditional architectural details add charm to older homes. They appear where they are needed: the baseboard protects the basement walls, the cornices protect the walls from rain and unite them with the roof, the entrance portal decorates the front door.
Window surrounds are distinctive window decorations that smooth the transition from wall to window opening and emphasize their shape. The delightful architectural elements that can be seen on houses and buildings of the early twentieth and nineteenth centuries are most often embellished with very durable plaster.
Unfortunately, during major renovations they increasingly disappear under a layer of insulation. The original wall surface is covered with a layer of polystyrene or mineral wool, and the decorations are most often damaged. Insulated houses receive new facades. Only in exceptional cases, for example when an architectural monument is being renovated, is the façade finished or reproduced using traditional methods, using special weather-resistant mixtures to restore decorative architectural elements. Owners of old houses that need major repairs and insulation usually do not use such methods for restoring facades.

Which house will suit different types of decoration?
If the house is built of wood, it is most often and better to use traditional wooden platbands, which, if desired, can be decorated with various decorative elements. These can be carved figures directly from the tree itself.
Wood frame
We can say that this is a kind of rustic style and is ideal for small country houses. It is worth considering that only a professional can make beautiful wooden elements. It is not always possible to cut perfectly even shapes from wood, so such framing requires a lot of time and effort.
Brick frame
The windows of a brick house can be faced with the same brick with a difference only in the color scheme. The brick of the window opening should only protrude by a few to one-fourth of the total size of the building material. We can say that this cladding method is the most economical, fast and simple compared to the previous one.
Siding frame
If the cladding of the house was initially carried out using siding, then additional profiles are suitable for window openings. This cladding is also quite simple and quick, and is also well suited for houses of different styles. Additional profiles for windows on the facade are assembled as a designer according to size and directly according to color shades.

Stone Frame
The decoration of windows made of natural stone looks very good and rich. So sandstone, shell rock and limestone are ideal for such installation. But you must remember that such finishing is very heavy, so it will only be relevant on the strong walls of large houses. This material is not suitable for small and low walls, as it will place a large load on the foundation. In addition to natural stones, you can also add other classic decorations - arches, cornices and many other decorative elements.
Plaster frame
In the guise of an elegant classic, gypsum can be used to cover window openings. This decor has retained its relevance since ancient times and is still in quite high demand. But on the other hand, it is not very practical, since the gypsum itself is fragile and at the same time heavy, and is also afraid of moisture.
Polyurethane frame
Finishing materials for windows also include polyurethane stucco. It looks very nice on different house cladding materials and fits almost all styles. In addition to all this, such a facing material is characterized by significant durability, lightness and has high resistance to external factors.
It is very important that polyurethane stucco does not fade in the sun and keeps a good appearance. Anyone can easily choose ready-made decorative elements or choose to order

Advantages and choice of facade decor
No one needs to be convinced that decorating the walls of a house is good. Everyone understands that a beautiful, well-kept home is pleasing to the eye, and with individual decoration it takes on its own personality. In ancient times in Rus', every owner tried to highlight his home with carved platbands, wooden lace on shutters, unusual skates and weather vanes. Today there are many ways to make your home not only beautiful, but also unique. This is precisely the main advantage of façade decor - to make a building stand out from hundreds of others. Facade decor will replace architectural delights, and a house built according to a standard design will make it one of a kind.
Private house project
Tile decor
Before you start thinking about finishing elements, you need to provide a general background, or, more simply, the design of the walls. This is an important part of the future picture, and in order for the image to take shape, it is necessary to make a project. Finishing projects are freely available in large quantities, and you can create them yourself or order them from a designer. First, think about what style you want the future facade to be. For example, if you are attracted by the old Western European architectural style, then you should not cover the walls with bright flock chips, and in the case of Venetian chic, do not paint the house in bright colors.
Decorating walls with tiles will be a solution for any design. Facade slabs and tiles are available to suit all tastes. In this case, not a single wallet will be harmed! You can decorate the walls with a stone look, while the texture of the slab will convey the coolness of the natural material and its strength, or you can decorate your home in a rustic style and use tiles that are no different from wood.
Unique types of facades that combine two or more types of tiles. For example, brick-like tiles can be combined with stone, as in the photo.

The classic Middle Ages will be conveyed by tiles with imitation stone and forged gratings.

Clinker tiles are a classic that goes with most styles. It looks reliable and respectable and is very popular all over the world for its durability. Look how in this photo the general background of the walls harmonizes with the façade elements.

Plaster decor
Wall decoration using decorative plaster has been used for several centuries and has not lost its relevance. It is not only beautiful, but also easy to do yourself. Such houses look presentable, and the color and future decorative elements can be chosen according to your own taste. The application of plaster is carried out in several stages. The first few steps are overlay and grout. Lastly, a mixture of marble chips is added, which creates the pattern. There are ready-made mixtures of Venetian plasters for facades. You can choose the color separately. In the photo you can see several ways to create a “drawing” on the wall.
Creating a Venetian plaster pattern: master class
The combination of plastered walls with tiles, stucco and other decorative elements is striking in its diversity. Using the “Venetian” in several steps you can create any architectural style from baroque to high-tech. The photo shows how the plastered surface harmonizes with the “stone” base.

With the help of plaster, you can inexpensively and effectively make your house bright and make it stand out among others with vibrant sunlight.

What to consider when choosing a modification?
First of all, you need to select the type and picture of the false window. The most suitable room for installing the structures in question is the living room. This is especially appropriate if guests gather there and there is some cramped space. A false window in the interior (see photo in the review) will visually enlarge the room, making it airier and lighter.
When choosing a window simulator, take into account the color scheme and dimensions of the furniture, the type of finishing materials, and the general style of the room. For example, a marine theme is suitable for a Mediterranean-style room, and minimalism goes well with urbanism.
Scope of application
It is appropriate to install false windows in the following cases:
- If the window openings nearby are located at a considerable distance from each other. In this case, it will not hurt to install a false window, which is formed on a free wall.
- Design of premises such as a library, office. Imitating a backlit window will allow you to fill the room with the necessary amount of light, even if the design does not include standard windows. The realism and openness of the interior is ensured by installing a built-in fan.
- For small offices, it is better to use false windows with photographic images that are appropriate in the design and arrangement of the interior.
- False variations can help illuminate and brighten dark corners of basements, hallways and hallways.
- Children's rooms, bathrooms, hallways, and living rooms would also benefit from the design in question, which will give them unforgettable equipment with skillful selection of the theme, color scheme, and also the type of window substitute.
The latest technologies for manufacturing false windows
And in conclusion, we want to tell you about how false windows are made that recreate pictures with the most realistic scenes. Such designs are realized, as is known, using modern plasma (liquid crystal) panels. You yourself can choose the most suitable view from the window for your room, which can be “revitalized” by connecting electronic panels to a source of moving images (computer, DVD, etc.).
Despite its high cost, this option for making false windows is considered the most effective and in most cases justifies the money spent on its implementation.
Imitation of a window in the interior in accordance with the style
Having decided to equip a room with a fake window, it is important to correctly determine its future location. Such structures can be installed in any room. When choosing the type of window opening and the artistic content of the structure, it is important to pay attention to the style and color scheme of the interior. The product must be in harmony with pieces of furniture and decor.
Living rooms
For the interior of living rooms designed in a modern classical style, windows with images of forest and other natural landscapes, sea spaces with sailboats, and cruise ships are suitable.
Youth rooms
For fashionable styles of loft, hi-tech, minimalism, you can choose fake windows with city landscapes: skyscrapers, highways, lights of the night metropolis.
Kitchens
Kitchens decorated in rustic country and chalet styles can be complemented with windows with natural motifs: fields, forest thickets, flowering plants. Soft warm light is suitable as a backlight. Windows framed with carved frames and shutters will fit into such an interior. The window sill can be additionally decorated with indoor plants or flowers in vases. Such interiors are most preferable for country houses.
Children's
False structures with views of the starry sky or blue sky with light clouds surrounded by green tree crowns will help create a magical atmosphere in the children's room.
Bedrooms
Bedrooms should have an atmosphere of peace and relaxation. Here you can install a decorative opening with painting done in delicate pastel shades. It is better to choose natural and environmentally friendly materials for framing.
The best location for the window is at the head of the room or on the wall, opposite the bed or on the ceiling. One of the most inspiring views is the sunrise and also the winter landscape. In the bedroom, it is appropriate to install a virtual window with an EC screen and admire “live” artistic compositions before going to bed and after waking up.
Bathrooms
The element of water rules the show in the bathroom, so images of water bodies will look good in this room: seas, oceans, lakes; seabirds, underwater world with characteristic plants and inhabitants.
The bathrooms of most city apartments are deprived of sources of daylight, so a decorative window with lighting will make the interior lighter and airier.
For a bathroom where the humidity level is constantly high, it is better to choose windows without electronic components. It is better to protect images with glass and polyurethane frames.
Hallways, attics and basements
Rooms that are not equipped with real window openings can be decorated with an imitation that will suit the size and style of the existing interior. Structures in such spaces should be equipped with lighting. The false window can be the main or additional source of lighting.
