15 types of window decoration on the facade of the house and 1000 different options.

Unlike owners of standard apartments, owners of private houses are not limited in the choice of shape, size and design of window openings, at least at the construction planning stage. If you are planning to build a house or are rebuilding a particular room, then the question of choosing the design of window openings will arise sooner or later.

Windows are usually called the eyes of the house and this is not surprising, because both the exterior and interior of your home largely depend on the design of the window. Window openings create the character and individuality of a building and shape its appearance. This is what concerns building facades. If we talk about the interior of the premises, then windows often occupy almost the entire wall in the room and very part of this wall is located opposite the entrance, which means that it inevitably affects the perception of the external appearance of the space.

Well-designed windows can transform the simplest interior design. Likewise, unsuitable windows can ruin the efforts of designers. After all, windows allow you to control the atmosphere of the room, the level of illumination and even the color palette.

However, it cannot be said that there is a universal window option suitable for any interior and exterior of the building. Each time, homeowners, together with designers and architects, create a unique image of their home, mixing various elements, designs and details, using increasingly modern technologies.

We hope that an impressive selection of interiors of private households, which depict various rooms according to the design methods and designs of window openings, will help you choose your ideal window design for your own home.

Panoramic windows

The latest trends in architecture and interior design are leaning towards the use of large panoramic windows. Wall-to-wall glazing, or even glass walls, is not only an opportunity to let in the maximum possible amount of natural light into a room, but also a way to radically change the appearance of a room, its character and essence.

Perhaps due to the mentality influenced by the climatic features of our country, the majority of our compatriots believe that panoramic windows are no longer for Russia, that it is “too cold.” For fear of freezing in the middle of the harsh Russian winter, many homeowners limit their ability to enjoy sunlight for as much time as possible during the day. And we are talking not only about personal and common rooms, but also about utilitarian premises. In our country, it is rare to see a bathroom in a standard apartment with a window. The same applies to utility rooms.

But modern energy-saving technologies allow us not to worry about frost; a large and bright window can be warm and functional. But this does not mean that the rule “the larger the window, the better” applies in all situations. Of course, it is necessary to consider the size and design of the window opening based on the general concept of the entire room.

Panoramic glazing can radically transform your bedroom, for example, erasing the boundaries of space. If there is a beautiful view outside your window, then why not let it flow inside the room? Thanks to modern technology, owners of private houses, mansions and cottages can afford the luxury of waking up with the first rays of the sun and watching the sunset from their own bedroom or living room.

conclusions

A house with panoramic windows looks beautiful and modern, attracting the eyes of surrounding people. Before starting the design process, it is worth considering all the main points. This way, you will furnish your home with the best comfort that will serve you for a long time.

Strip glazing

This is the name given to several consecutive glass blocks, which are located one after the other and from the outside resemble a transparent tape. Obviously, for certain premises the height and length of such tapes can vary significantly. Strip glazing can add light and air to a strict modern design.

Recently, in kitchen design projects you can often notice strip glazing, which serves as an apron (or part of it), located above the working surfaces of the kitchen space. Among the obvious advantages of this arrangement of window openings, one can note the high level of illumination of the most important areas of the kitchen, not to mention the fact that preparing a delicious dish or washing dishes is much more pleasant if you have the opportunity to look at an excellent view of nature outside the window.

Glazing can occupy the entire wall above the work surfaces or occupy only a narrow strip. It all depends on whether you planned to place an upper tier of kitchen cabinets in your cooking area.

There is an option to create parallel strip glazing, which will not require sacrificing the top tier of kitchen storage systems. Of course, this option for enriching the kitchen with natural light is suitable for rooms with fairly high shelves.

Of course, strip glazing can be used not only in kitchen areas. Living rooms, offices, dining rooms and even bedrooms can harmoniously fit a series of glass blocks one after another into their interior.

Custom shape

Currently, in addition to the standard rectangular shape for everyone, it is possible to make an energy-saving window of any configuration - round, oval, triangular, trapezoidal and diamond-shaped. The unusual shape instantly changes the appearance of the building and affects the interior of the room. Of course, making a window of a non-standard, or, more simply put, not rectangular shape, will take more time, and the cost will be higher. But the time and financial costs will pay off when you can see the image of your home outside and inside.

Round windows – portholes – can become an original element of the room’s interior. To do this, it is not necessary to decorate the room in a marine style; traditional furnishings or modern style will look harmonious with round window openings.

A window with a curved top can transform any interior. Its production and installation will take more time, but you will enjoy the excellent illumination of the room and the excellent appearance of the room for a very long time, so the costs will have time to be justified.

An arched window perfectly emphasizes the classic lines of the interior and can single-handedly transform the appearance of a room. The contrasting design of the window coverings in dark colors against the background of the light decoration of the room instantly makes it the center of attention, around which the entire space design concept is built.

Types of windows

When choosing a design option for windows with access to the facade, you need to take into account what they are made of:

  • wooden - the “like to like” principle applies here. The wood finish will look harmonious;
  • plastic windows (PVC) are almost universal in relation to all modern types of materials. For example, siding, decorative brick, decorative stone;
  • aluminum windows - mainly installed on industrial buildings and public buildings. Typically, siding is used;
  • metal-plastic windows (PVC plus reinforcing reinforcement). Also combined with modern, faux finishing options.

In addition, the shape and size of the windows must be taken into account. They can be small - ventilation or full-wall like French ones. The shape can be standard rectangular or round, arched, pointed and even polygonal.

Corner window

Not so long ago, designers around the world began to use this interesting design technique, with the help of which two windows are connected at right angles, forming a glass corner. If the windows are large enough, then the line between the external environment and the interior of the room is practically erased, creating the impression of the presence of a portal into nature.

If you can’t decide how to design the windows on the facade of a building, then a selection of photos with design options will certainly help you.

Pivot and tilt windows

As a rule, tilting and turning structures have small windows. Often these window models are used in utilitarian areas such as hallways, bathrooms, pantries and laundry rooms, and sometimes in the kitchen.

Turning windows in a dark contrasting frame serve not only as a source of light and fresh air, but also as an element of room decor, successfully harmonizing with the decoration of the staircase.

Hinged windows can often be found in bathrooms. Even small window openings can provide you with the necessary level of lighting. In addition, for rooms with high humidity, the ventilation function comes first. It’s great if you can organize an alternative option for natural ventilation, in addition to an electric hood.

And this is a version of a folding window with latches, thanks to which you can hold the window open without effort. An excellent solution for a private home - you can dine outside, admiring the sunset, and transfer food directly from the kitchen, through the window-counter.

How to choose the right curtains for your interior: designer’s advice

Some basic tips on how to choose curtain designs:

  • Curtains can be an excellent option not only for decorating a window, but also for zoning in a small room or studio. They allow you to rationally and proportionally organize space or separate certain areas, for example, a niche for a bed or wardrobe.
  • Bright curtains can visually adjust the space and increase the volume of small rooms.
  • To combine curtains, when choosing materials of different colors, it is recommended to select them according to style.
  • For ease of operation of curtains, it is necessary to choose the most convenient options for attaching blinds.
  • The choice of fittings is also influenced by the type of cornice; it can be plastic, wood or metal.
  • It is desirable that the color of the curtains matches the main shade of the walls, upholstery or textiles.
  • According to Feng Shui, it is believed that the design of curtains should be selected individually for each room, for example, thick and opaque fabrics are suitable for the bedroom, and simple roller blinds will be enough for the kitchen.

Windows for attic rooms

Attic and attic spaces are not an easy place to organize living rooms. Roof designs that include windows in the original version are rare. Therefore, it is better to decide at the building planning stage whether you will use an attic or an attic and what kind of premises you want to place there; the number and scale of window openings will depend on this.

Obviously, when arranging an office, library or nursery in the attic or attic, it is necessary to provide the room with a sufficiently high level of illumination. In our country, there is a certain stereotype about attics - they are dark, dirty and non-residential premises, where, as a rule, the owners put all their unused (or rarely used) belongings. But these are additional square meters that can be rationally used by increasing the number of living rooms or utilitarian premises. After all, no matter how large a private house is, there is still not enough space.

Material, color and texture

Of course, plastic energy-saving profiles can now be safely called the leader in the window market, but this does not mean that wood has ceased to be used as a material for the manufacture of window frames. Especially when it comes to window openings of private and country houses, which are often decorated in country style or using certain elements of country style.

But now laminated profiles with a polymer film, which can imitate any texture, have begun to be actively used. Of course, “wooden” surfaces are most often ordered from window profile manufacturers. And this is quite obvious, because the fashion for wooden surfaces never goes away.

Using polymer film, you can create a visual reproduction of almost any material, such as metal or stainless steel.

Even in a standard white plastic window, there is an option to show individuality by ordering not a black seal, which is located between the frame and the glass, but, for example, a gray one. This way you can smooth out the contrast, not to mention the fact that lighter colors in the window design visually increase it.

Contrasting, dark window frames can become the focal point of a room, attracting all eyes. Of course, such windows do not need to be decorated with textiles, acting as full participants in shaping the image of the room.

Frame-type slopes

So, if plaster is a continuous covering of a slope, then there is also a frame type, when there is empty space inside that can be additionally insulated. The choice of material for such solutions directly depends on the type of building cladding. Slopes can be made of plastic, wooden lining, vinyl or metal siding, window profile, metal cassette element. The installation of these materials is almost identical, so we did not separate them.

View the following photographs showing similar slopes.

Each of the listed materials has its own set of characteristics, but none of them provides the window system with additional thermal protection, like special compositions of plaster mixtures. However, there are methods for insulating such slopes: the internal space is filled with polyurethane foam or mineral wool.

External insulation of window slopes and walls

Installation proceeds according to the following scheme:

  1. A frame is exposed, which can be external and internal, or only external. In the first case, a belt of slats or metal profiles is attached near the window frame and the same along the outer perimeter of the slope. In the second - only the outer element - the inner one is replaced with a starting profile, which is attached directly to the frame. The last solution is suitable for plastic and thin lining.
  2. All frame elements are set clearly in level, since they completely determine the geometry of the future slope.
  3. They are attached differently, depending on the material. Most often, anchors and metal hangers are used as fasteners.
  4. The finishing material is installed according to the fastening scheme of the specific material. For example, wooden lining can be held in place by nails and self-tapping screws directly or through metal clamps, and siding is held in place by self-tapping screws and a special fastening profile.
  5. The outer corner of the slope is covered with a decorative element. Usually these are overhead corners, examples of which you could see in the photographs shown above.

Slopes made of fiber cement siding can also be installed over the sheathing.

It is much easier to make a frame slope than a plaster slope, and in 90% of cases it does not require additional processing. The product begins its service life immediately after installation. Everything would be great, but not every material will last long. Painted elements fade over time in the sun, wood can rot and change color. You can repeat the coloring, but it will not look like the factory one, and the slopes will definitely lose their attractiveness. But plaster surfaces can be renewed an unlimited number of times.

Bedroom

Combining windows of various sizes and shapes within one room allows you to create not only an interesting interior, but also provide the room with the necessary level of natural light.

Living room

One of the most important rooms in a city private home or country home is the living room. As a rule, this is a fairly large room that can boast a whole set of windows of impressive size.

With the help of narrow, high windows, you can give the interior a touch of European style. Typically, similar models of window openings are used in English design projects.

Bathroom

In private houses, bathroom spaces can boast impressive sizes, unlike their urban counterparts, confined within the framework of urban standard apartments. And the consequence of this is, first of all, the opportunity, in principle, to install a window, and sometimes more than one, and quite a large one.

Office, library

In rooms where active work, creative activities, and reading will be carried out, it is necessary to ensure a high level of illumination, sometimes for this it is necessary to resort to additional installation of windows.

Children's room

For children's bedrooms and playrooms, in addition to the issue of sufficient lighting and ventilation, the issue of safety is quite acute. Currently, manufacturers of window profiles offer many options for “secret” locks that small children are unable to open on their own.

Fashion trends

Fashion sensitively captures the moods and aesthetic preferences of its time. If previously multilayer curtains with lambrequins dominated, now there has been a shift towards simpler and more concise solutions. The rule of good form is to decorate windows with curtains without additional decor, freely falling to the floor. The emphasis is on the interesting texture of the fabric and color scheme.
