How to beautifully hang string curtains on a cornice, arch or doorway

Often, in order to divide all the rooms between each other, we use ordinary doors. But as practice shows, today many of us are abandoning this option in favor of using such a design version as thread curtains. This option will be the ideal solution for perfectly and beautifully decorating a doorway and visually expanding the free space of the room (see photo below).

Varieties and characteristics

Kisey can be of several types:

  1. Curtains with solid inserts. Clasps, beads, etc. are used as decorations.
  2. Thread curtains. They are made entirely of fibers of the same thickness. This muslin goes well with any type of curtains and drapes. The threads can be braided and secured with a hairpin.
  3. Decorative strings. They can be made of fabric.

The variety of threads used differs. They come in the form of straight ropes, spirals or chains.

Handmade

Unfortunately, even with a huge selection of curtains, it can be difficult to find what you need specifically. You can make curtains from ropes or threads with your own hands, using the master class as a guide . In addition, you will need:

  • Threads (100% viscose) of any color or several colors - 3 km! In standard skeins this is about 11 pieces.
  • Curtain tape, matching threads.
  • Non-woven tape, iron.
  • Double sided tape.
  • Sewing machine.
  • Beads or other items for decoration.

All numbers are taken to make curtains 2.5 by 2.5 m.

The sequence of actions is as follows: divide the threads into segments 2.5 m long. Glue double-sided tape to the back side of the curtain tape along the entire length. Attach strings to it one at a time. Once all the threads are in place, place interlining on top . Iron with a damp cloth . After this, machine sew 2-3 seams in a row. The curtain is ready!

Manufacturing materials and colors

Both natural and artificial fabrics are used to make muslin.

The most common of them:

  • linen;
  • wool;
  • viscose;
  • bast;
  • polyester, etc.

The material should be selected based on the room for which the muslin is needed. The advantage of artificial fabrics is that they do not rot when in contact with water. Therefore, they are suitable for decorating a kitchen or bathroom. Natural material is better, for example, for a bedroom, because it is pleasant to the touch.

The color range of thread curtains can be of several types:

  • plain;
  • rainbow;
  • contrasting (combinations of two or more colors), etc.

After choosing a color scheme, you can pay attention to the decorative inserts. These can be feathers, beads and seed beads.

Choice of material depending on style

The material is selected based on the style of the room. For example, artificial fabric that is resistant to various stains is suitable for the kitchen. Also, an undoubted advantage will be the choice of a material that contains chromium. This element adds shine to the curtain.

Silver muslin will look beautiful in a high-tech apartment.

This color is especially appropriate if the room is made in light colors. Transparent threads will visually enlarge a small room. In this way, the ceiling is visually raised.

Advantages and disadvantages of muslin

The advantages of thread curtains include:

  1. A wide variety of curtain fastening methods. They are suitable for any type of curtains; “Noodles” can be held in place using clips, hooks, ribbons, etc.
  2. Light weight.
  3. Possibility to adjust the length of the threads.
  4. Low price of the product.
  5. Ease of installation and subsequent care.

The disadvantages of muslin are as follows:

  1. Curtains look organic only when using several products at once. One curtain will not fit into the interior.
  2. Threads can become tangled and lose their aesthetic appearance if improperly washed or stored.
  3. If the muslin is made of thin fibers, it may be difficult to untie the knots.
  4. Due to its shape, muslin has a tendency to accumulate static electricity. As a result, such curtains attract dust particles.

How to untangle muslin...

Thread curtains can get tangled, but it never happens without a reason. Perhaps they were washed incorrectly or hung incorrectly on the curtain rod. Be that as it may, you should quickly get rid of the ugly knot.

... from threads

If the curtain consists entirely of threads, it can be untangled without removing it. For this:

  • the product moves to the center of the cornice;
  • the muslin is “combed” with your fingers (you need to start from the top);
  • the detected nodules are first shaken and relaxed a little, and then gradually disassembled;
  • The finished curtain is stretched along the cornice.

... with balls and beads

If muslin with balls or beads gets tangled, then first of all you need to calm down and put the scissors away. After all, such a product can still be saved. Then you need:

  1. Secure those threads with beads that are not yet tangled. To do this, you need to take a small piece of cardboard and a rubber band. Thick thick paper is applied to the bottom of the threads with balls, they are wound onto cardboard, which gradually rises to the top of the product. When there is approximately 20-25 cm left to the edge, the threads are fixed on the paper with an elastic band.
  2. Remove the curtain from the curtain rod and lay it on the floor.
  3. Take the knot and try to relax it.
  4. Start taking out threads without beads or balls and transfer them to the edge.

To understand that the thread is empty, you must first carefully pull it from the edge. If there are no balls approximately 20-25 cm from the top of the product, then the correct thread has been found. Then:

  1. When the knot decreases in size, the “freed” threads located behind the edge return to the total mass.
  2. The curtain is folded 2-3 times, fixed on a hanger with tucks (usually these are used for storing trousers or skirts) and clings to the curtain rod.
  3. The remaining assembly is carefully disassembled by weight, starting from the top. The balls or beads are slowly moved and released.

After all the muslin threads have been untangled, the curtain along with the hanger is removed from the curtain rod, placed on the floor and repeatedly tied with soft ribbons. This is done so that the curtain does not get tangled again when transferring it to the curtain rod.

Ways to decorate rooms

With the help of thread curtains you can beautifully decorate your living spaces. The most common way is to attach the curtain to the cornice; the doorway can also be supplemented with muslin. Dividing a room into zones using threads is another way to use it.

Zoning

Zoning of space is achieved by using threads instead of doors. In this way, for example, the kitchen is separated from the dining room. In the bedroom, you can use muslin to decorate a niche in the wall or create a canopy with your own hands.

Zoning of studio apartments is widespread. In this case, muslin can divide a single room into functional zones.

Tie options

Curtains can be modified by tying knots and weaving.

Decorating muslin is best done with the help of accessories:

  • pick-up brushes;
  • magnetic clips;
  • clothespins;
  • hairpins;
  • pins, etc.

Using special decorative elements, you can effectively tie thread curtains.

What are string curtains?

An ideal option for zoning a room.
Very often, thread curtains are used to decorate a doorway. People often call them muslin. In fact, this is another name that you may encounter when choosing them directly. The threads came to us from the Far East, so they amaze with a wide variety of colors and design options. Therefore, it is not surprising that we use thread curtains as a kind of tool that allows us to divide space in a way convenient for us.

From the existing variety of threads used to decorate a doorway, you can find an option that will make the room bohemian and quite spacious. The structure of the threads can be either thin or thick, made from several weaves. Variations of colors and shades can also be varied. The main thing is that the main task of the threads is to slightly darken the room and not interfere with the free circulation of fresh air.

How to hang it correctly

Before hanging thread curtains, you need to decide how to attach them. To do this, you can find a photo of the room design you like. Determining the method of fastening and location is necessary in order to adjust the threads to the length and width of the doorway or window.

The most common options for hanging muslin look like this:

  • pocket for fastening (threading the cornice rod through the material);
  • clamps (with this method, clothespins are included with the barbell);
  • standard curtain tape (hooks are attached to rings or runners);
  • Velcro tape (fastened with Velcro);
  • eyelets (metal or steel rings for wavy fastening).

The new curtain in the package is tied with a special tape to prevent tangling. It needs to be removed. In this case, start with the part closest to the border. After attaching the curtain to the cornice using any of the above methods, it is necessary to untangle the threads, gradually going down from top to bottom.

How to attach muslin to a doorway

It is not always advisable to install interior doors in an apartment. Therefore, muslin is often used to decorate not only window openings, but also doorways. Moreover, it looks very impressive, and hanging muslin on a doorway is much cheaper than any door.

Thread curtains for the door are available in three hanging options:

  • with a drawstring for stringing a cornice onto a pipe or attaching it to clothespins;
  • on curtain tape for hanging on hooks;
  • on Velcro adhesive tape.

They are attached to doorways in the same way as to window openings.

How to make thread curtains with your own hands

Thread curtains can be made at home. To do this you will need various threads and borders. The strings need to be tied to a wide ribbon, and you can decorate them with improvised materials.

Tools and materials

To make muslin with your own hands you will need the following tools:

  • plain paper;
  • scissors;
  • screwdriver;
  • ruler;
  • pliers.

Manufacturing instructions

Before making curtains, you need to calculate all the parameters. First you need to determine the pitch - this is the distance between the ropes. The closer the threads are attached to each other, the denser the product will be.

Then the total number of threads is determined. It is calculated as the length of the cornice divided by the pitch. To find the number of skeins of thread, you need to multiply the resulting number by the desired length of the product.

After making the muslin, you can decorate it.

The decorations are:

  • shells;
  • buttons;
  • beads;
  • pieces of fabric, fur, etc.

Options for thread curtains for the entrance to the room

Despite the fact that we think of thread curtains as ordinary threads separated from each other, there are several variations in their use. Among them are the following threads, which are used to decorate the doorway:

  • rope curtains;
  • combined threads;
  • pendant threads;
  • solid thread curtains.

Each of these options has its own advantages and is in increasing demand today.

Features of various threads for use in the entrance opening

Despite the fact that there are quite a lot of options for these curtains, each of them has its own characteristics that require special attention when choosing them.

Kiseya will make the room not only original, but also free

Ordinary muslin, which is considered the simplest and most frequently used option for decorating the entrance opening, is a cotton fabric that uses a special weave. Most often, muslin-shaped threads are made from synthetic fabrics. They can be decorated with glass beads, small splashes of lurex or other bright decorative elements. The thickness of the threads can be varied and each of us has the opportunity to choose the color scheme individually.

Rope curtains are often made from polyester, acetate, lurex or viscose. Very often, when developing them, elements such as beads and rhinestones are used. Most often they take the form of ordinary threads, but it is possible that they can be created in the form of blinds that can be adjusted.

Solid thread curtains are considered one of the most practical methods used to decorate a doorway. Their peculiarity lies in the fact that their production is based on strong and hard materials. Outwardly, they can have a completely ascetic appearance. But they can also be decorated with all sorts of decorative elements.

Solid beads are the most practical option

Combined thread options are no less popular. Most often, sequins, beads and glass beads are used to make them. But the most fascinating look are the thread curtains that use beads. With this design, beads are placed both randomly and evenly. This option can be done independently at home, but you need to use all your imagination. These thread options are popular because, due to the refraction of light in the beads, mesmerizing reflections spread across the room.

But hanging threads make it possible to give the room some lightness due to the fact that feathers are most often used in their manufacture. And, as you know, at the slightest breath of wind the feathers begin to “play” (see photo below).

Thread products using feathers will add lightness to the room

Care tips and advice

Curtains do not require special care. It is enough to ensure that the threads do not get tangled. Such curtains get dirty less often than fabric curtains. You can clean the product from dirt in the washing machine, after placing it in a special bag.

The muslin can also be washed by hand. To do this, you need to tie all the threads into large knots. Drying curtains must be completely straightened.

With the help of thread curtains, you can not only add individuality to the interior, but also divide the room into zones. Products made from small ropes look beautiful both on windows and doors.

How to attach muslin to an arch-shaped opening

In order to hang muslin in the arch as harmoniously as possible, without covering its unusual arched shape, use a flexible cornice made of aluminum or plastic (German) profile.

Thread curtains are attached to a round cornice with runners or a drawstring, and to a profile cornice - with Velcro tape. In both cases, the muslin is hung statically and without folds.

If the arched window is high, you can hang muslin on a straight cornice. In this case, it is fixed at the base of the arched arc, visually separating the semicircular part of the window from the rectangular one. Thanks to its non-standard nature, this method has recently become very popular.
