Air Box Comfort and other types of inlet window valves

The high energy efficiency of modern windows creates a negative side effect.
So, when the doors are closed, the process of natural ventilation of the interior stops. This negatively affects the unsatisfactory sanitary condition of the indoor air, especially the increase in carbon dioxide CO2.

It leads to a lack of oxygen in the environment, which affects people's health, causing headaches, exacerbation of allergies, irritability and insomnia. In addition, closed windows disrupt the natural minimum air exchange in the room, which leads to condensation, the creation and spread of fungi and mold in the room.

Open windows during the cold season become sources of drafts, bridges of cold into the room, which leads to colds among residents. Moreover, through the open doors, street noise enters the room, which is especially annoying in the evening and at night.

Engineers tried to take into account these two negative factors in the operation of modern window systems and developed the design of a special window supply valve that eliminates the above-described disadvantages. One of the popular similar devices is the Air Box valve, which has several modifications.

Models are designed for various installation options and operating modes. The thoughtful design of this model and detailed instructions from the manufacturer allow you to install it on the window and put it into operation independently, in just 30 minutes.

What are Airboxes?

Airbox devices are designed to maintain natural air aeration in the room, which is disrupted when the window sashes are completely closed.
They operate automatically when the window is completely closed, due to movable air dampers.

In modern versions of Air Box valves, when the wind increases, they close themselves, reducing the volume of air entering the room.

Automatic operation of the dampers allows you to regulate the percentage of humidity in the air, thereby reducing the likelihood of conditions for the formation of condensation, which contributes to biological contamination.

Operating principle of the Air Box valve:

  1. The AirBox housing is mounted on the sash and window frame; to do this, part of the factory window seal is removed.
  2. Through the formed hole in the window system, street air enters the room.
  3. The process of regulating the air supply occurs thanks to the adjustment knob of the device, moving it to the right/left position; in some versions it is of a rotary type.
  4. Thanks to the natural pressure difference between the air and the room, approximately 10 Pa, air from the external environment will flow into the internal one.
  5. The dampers are designed in such a way that colder outside air is directed upward, heated there by warmer air and distributed evenly throughout the room, as a result of which drafts do not enter and the overall air temperature does not drop.

Attention ! For the first series of window supply valves, a characteristic operating condition is the fact that at temperatures outside the window -15 C and below they become covered with ice.

Since the efficiency of the AirBox depends on the pressure difference, which is determined outside and inside the room and has a maximum value in the autumn-winter period of the year, it is at this time that the draft has the greatest difference.

In addition to the climatic season, draft depends on many external factors : the location of the window in the cardinal directions, the height of the house, the wind rose and the climatic characteristics of the area.

When adjusting the AirBox supply valve, experts do not recommend completely closing the valve.

What types of windows are they suitable for?

Airbox valves of the supply type are universal in terms of installation options and can be used for all types of modern window systems: plastic, wood and aluminum.
This principle is incorporated into the design of the ventilation valve. It can be installed on frames and sash made of any material and does not spoil its appearance.

With the simplest Air Box installation scheme without milling, the body is not affected; you only need to remove part of the standard window seal on the sash and frame and install a thinner product. In the same place, with a new seal, the supply valve body is installed.

To the greatest extent, the installation of such ventilation devices is necessary for buildings built from monolithic reinforced concrete , as well as in private houses that have poor natural ventilation. Since at such facilities it will be necessary to open the vents and window sashes more often, which leads to an increase in heat loss and an increase in the cost of heating the room. In addition, when windows are opened, they become sources of increased street noise.

Solving the issue of room ventilation.

Today there are not as many ways to solve room ventilation problems as we would like. Their difference lies primarily in efficiency, cost and technology used. One of the ways to saturate a room with an installed plastic window with fresh air is to use a special ventilation valve. Today, there are many models of ventilation valves mounted on the window frame, its sash, and even in the wall of the building. The benefits of these devices vary and depend on the climate, operating conditions, correct installation and use.

What types of ventilation systems are there?

Airbox valves of the supply type are available in several modifications: Standart, Comfort, Comfort S and Eco with G3 filter. All of them are compatible with window profiles - KR, VA and TF. The series differ from each other in installation options, performance characteristics and appearance. For the valve, you can additionally purchase a noise protection visor installed above the inlet.

Installation types

The installation of airbox valves of the supply type is carried out in 2 ways, depending on the production series of the product. This is the simplest option without milling a PVC profile. It is allowed for Standard, Comfort and Eco models, and more complex with milling - for Comfort S.

In the first case, installation is carried out as quickly and simply as possible, but the performance of the valve is reduced, from approximately 42 to 23 m3/hour. The second option can only be installed by specialists, since it affects the main structure of the window, but at the same time ensures maximum ventilated air performance.

The most common type of installation is horizontal at the top of the sash . When milling the sash, a ventilation duct (2 holes 1x16 cm) is cut out/drilled in its upper part.

There are also two options for installing a visor - hidden and external. The first involves concealed milling of the window, when part of the overlap of the PVC frame and from the sealing rubber side is milled; in this option, the visor does not protrude beyond the plane of the frame. The second option is a simpler external one - holes are milled through the overlay of the frame.

Important ! The required installation option for the visor and valve is determined in accordance with the frame profile and additional accessories installed on the window structure - grilles, nets, flower beds and others.

Installation Tools

The manufacturer took care to prepare the device for installation as much as possible.
It will not be difficult for the performer to prepare the remaining simple tools , which are in stock of almost every home craftsman.

First of all, you will need a measuring tool - a tape measure or ruler - to accurately measure the installation location on the frame. Next, you need to have a pencil to make marks on plastic and wood. It is not advisable to apply marks with a marker or other similar dye.

The set of tools for installing Air Box valves on a window will depend on the installation option. When performing without milling, you will need a sharp knife and a screwdriver for the mount, which is provided by the manufacturer in the kit.

If the installation involves milling the frame and sash, you will need an electric drill with drills - 10/12 mm, respectively, for the Comfort/Comfort-S series, as well as a jigsaw.

Step-by-step installation instructions

Installation for different series of Air Box valves depends on the modification: Standard - regular without milling; Comfort S - with milling; Air-Box ECO with filter installation.

The simplest option is to install Air Box Standard valves; for this, the performer must complete the following steps :

  1. Determine the location of the device on the sash.
  2. Place the body on the sash and mark the required length on the rubber seal.
  3. Cut off the marked piece of seal.
  4. A seal is inserted into the free space, which is supplied by the manufacturer, for example, for the Standart series - 250 mm.
  5. Remove the protective film on the case.
  6. Place the housing on the sash and secure it with self-tapping screws.
  7. Close the window and mark the required dimensions on the frame to remove the seal.
  8. Cut off the marked piece of seal from the frame.
  9. Install the seal, which is included in the ventilation device kit, into the free space.

Note ! In terms of time, installation can take no more than 30 minutes, including for performers who are performing this work for the first time.

Installation technology of the airbox valve of the COMFORT S supply type using the milling method:

  1. Determine the location for the housing.

  2. A 350 mm section of the sealing rubber is cut off on the valve, which corresponds to the size of the valve body and the seal from the kit.
  3. A seal is installed in the free space.
  4. Place the valve on the sash, close it and mark the location of the frame.
  5. On the frame overlay, 2 slot holes are milled, 12 mm in height and 157 mm in length, with a distance of 12 mm between them.
  6. Insert the support sleeve and secure it with self-tapping screws.
  7. Place the valve in the marked place.

When installing the valve, you need to ensure that the mounting seals and mounting “claws” of the body are pressed tightly against the dowels , otherwise the body may move and damage the installation tape. Installation with milling is usually carried out by specialists, the work takes no more than 2 hours.

Possible difficulties and errors

Incorrect installation of the airbox valve can lead to a violation of the thermal conditions in the room, a low level of ventilation and icing of the device itself.

When performing installation without milling, there are no particular difficulties for a performer of any professional level, but the operations of milling the frame and sash must be performed by specialists, since the window, after improper installation, can completely fail.

The main mistakes that contractors make when installing the AIR BOX ventilation system:

  1. Incorrect marking of the housing installation; after installation it rests on the slope. If, when choosing an installation, this cannot be avoided, it is better to provide a vertical installation option, and the valve should be installed as high as possible.
  2. Incorrectly performed drilling will weaken the rigidity of the window structure, which is especially dangerous with a large glazing area.
  3. Rough milling of the profile, the tightness of the reinforced chamber is broken with the destruction of the anti-corrosion coating.
  4. The valve model is incorrectly selected and is not suitable for the specific window profile.
  5. Incorrect installation height of the device. The height of the valve is about 9 mm; if it turns out that there is not enough space for it on the window, this will cause icing of the case even at low subzero temperatures. In this case, it is better to install the device vertically.

How to close if necessary?

Some Air Box valve models, for example, the simplest and cheapest Standard series, do not have the ability to close completely .
This point should be clarified at the time of purchase of the device in order to place it at a level available for additional service.

If it becomes necessary to close such a valve, you will need to cover the external ventilation holes with masking tape .

The latest versions of the Air Box valve work with auto-closing valves. If the general house hood is working properly, when a strong wind occurs outside the window, a pressure pressure above 10 Pa is created in the form of excess draft, which leads to the automatic slamming of the valves and protects the room from high heat losses in severe frost.

Care

Maintenance of the supply valve depends on its design. It is enough to clean the simplest slot or seam appliances once a year with a vacuum cleaner. The housing and inlet cover should be wiped with a damp cloth a little more often.

Some valve models are equipped with a special removable filter. The method for cleaning it should be described in the instructions for the device.

If the design of the device does not provide for internal cleaning, do not attempt this! You can damage the delicate mechanism for automatically adjusting the air flow and even completely destroy the valve.

Do not allow water, or even more aggressive chemicals, to get inside the valve.

Advantages and disadvantages

Air Box supply ventilation valves have a simple design principle and a wide range of applications for modern window systems made of different materials, located in residential, public and industrial premises.

Experts and users include the following advantages of Air Box ventilation overhead window systems:

  • versatility, possibility of application for different types of window systems;
  • two installation options - with and without milling;
  • simplicity and accessible installation;
  • ease of maintenance;
  • manual adjustment of ventilation volumes;
  • autonomy of operation without the need for power supply;
  • high energy efficiency indicators, reduce heat loss in the room;
  • high noise protection of the house from street noise;
  • environmental safety and protection from street air pollution, for ECO series.

Some users attribute the disadvantages of this modification of Air Box valves to the lack of automatic control, especially for the Standart series, and the low volume of ventilation, for models in which this figure is below 23 m3/hour, as well as the need to attract specialists to install the device using the milling method.

Description of the variety

Decorative white Siberian turf, a member of the dogwood family, is a fast-growing deciduous shrub with a spreading lush crown (up to two meters in diameter) and reaching a height of about three meters. Siberia is considered its homeland, hence the name “Sibirika”. White dogwood is represented by numerous varieties (about 50), among which the most popular are “Pearl of Siberia” and “Sibirica Variegata” (Cornus alba Sibirica Variegata).

It is impossible to confuse variegated turf with other shrubs, since it has special distinctive features. Its branches are distinguished by an unusual color for woody plants. They can be any red shade - from delicate coral to bright scarlet, from burgundy to red-brown. A young shrub has a richer color than an old one, whose color may have a gray tint. In spring and autumn the colors are most pronounced.

Another distinctive feature is its leaves. They are oval in shape, quite large, with a dark green outer surface and a bluish-green inner surface. The leaves along the entire perimeter have a white or cream edging that follows the shape of the leaf, and there may also be spots and stripes on it. Variegated foliage has the ability to change color. By autumn it turns purple-violet, but the edging remains. On the slightly pubescent wrinkled leaves, sitting opposite, arched veins are clearly visible.

The derain blooms with creamy fluffy inflorescences with a greenish tint, including several small flowers with a fragrant scent. Flowering occurs twice: May-June and in the fall - September-October. Fruits with a slight waxy coating are very small inedible berries with a stone, with a bluish-blue color, which becomes white with a slight bluish tint when the fruit ripens.

Average prices for installation services

The cost of installing Air Box valves depends on the device series, window design, installation location - vertical or horizontal, the presence of additional devices, such as a filter for the ECO series, and throughput.

Note ! Average installation prices are based on a productivity of 20-35 cubic meters per hour at a pressure drop of 10 Pa.

Average prices for installing Air-Box valves:

  • Standard without visor and without perforation - 450 rubles;

  • Comfort without visor and perforation - 700 rubles;
  • Comfort with a visor and without perforation - 1000 rubles.
  • Comfort-S without visor with perforation - 1,400 rubles.
  • Comfort-S with visor and perforation — RUB 1,700.
  • Comfort-ECO with visor and perforation - 2100 rub.

Small recommendations
