*Review of the best according to the editors of expertology.ru. About the selection criteria. This material is subjective in nature, does not constitute advertising and does not serve as a purchase guide. Before purchasing, consultation with a specialist is required.
The front door is a real outpost of any house or apartment. Even modern security alarms are based primarily on the door block. Today, property owners also want to ensure that the entrance area is visually attractive. You can find many beautiful, inexpensive doors on the market, but you shouldn’t rush into purchasing. Experts recommend paying attention to several important points.
Criteria for choosing an entrance door
- You can start with the main material of the front door. As you know, the ideal protection against a thief has not yet been invented. Therefore, from this point of view, metal, wooden, and plastic models will be equally protected.
- Modern locks are not able to prevent unauthorized entry into the house. Even new security systems become vulnerable after a while. Therefore, only a whole range of measures can provide reliable protection for a house or apartment.
- It makes no sense for an apartment owner to buy an expensive door with improved sound insulation if loud conversations between neighbors can be clearly heard through the walls or ceiling. And the armor on the canvas will clearly be an unnecessary protective element for the apartment.
- When purchasing a steel model, you should pay attention to the quality of the coating. This is especially true for owners of houses and cottages. Good protection and aesthetic appearance are provided by polymer (powder) paint, as well as various decorative panels.
- The front door also has an internal surface. When a young and stupid dog or cat is bored in the house, the animal’s claws can damage the beautiful canvas. It might be worth asking your sales consultant about the anti-vandal properties of the door.
- Not only Russian but also foreign manufacturers are actively defending their positions in the domestic market. Our companies have significantly improved the quality of production, and are practically not inferior to imported analogues in design. At the same time, the price of domestic products is significantly lower.
Our review includes the best entrance doors. When compiling the rating, the following criteria were taken into account:
- innovativeness of designs;
- sophistication of finishing;
- price;
- richness of the model range;
- expert opinion;
- consumer reviews.
What is thermal break
Metal entrance doors have long proven themselves to be durable, reliable, resistant to damage, and easy to maintain. The main problem of such products in Russian conditions is exposure to cold temperatures. Due to the fact that metal is a material with high heat conductivity, problems arise with heating the room and freezing of doors.
Traditional insulation materials placed inside the structure are not always able to solve the problem, because metal parts still come into contact with each other (for example, at the place of welding or fastening the outside and inside parts of the box). A thermal break can correct the situation. It is a layer of material with poor thermal conductivity that insulates parts of the metal from each other, placed between them, tightly fitting.
The thermal break can be of different sizes, configurations, and located in different parts of the door. It can be in the form of a narrow strip, a wide part, long or short, flat or voluminous. Thermal break occurs either in a single copy or in several copies per product. In some cases, the part can be removed by disassembling or peeled off; in others, the required fragment is mounted in a metal fragment even before it is bent into shape. In such a situation, the gap cannot be removed.
Why is a thermal break needed?
A big difficulty when installing metal doors in Russian conditions is the high thermal conductivity of the metal. In the cold season, the outer part, which is located in the entrance or on the street, cools down greatly, while the indoor part heats up. As a result, the door may freeze and condensation may form. A similar situation can be observed on plastic windows.
Moisture affects the safety and technical performance of the door itself, and also ends up inside locks and fittings, causing damage. In addition, heat is lost in the room. As a result of installing insulation, the situation does not change completely. The so-called “dew point” often simply shifts inside the door itself, because, despite the interlayer, the outer and inner parts of the doors touch at the point of attachment to each other, forming “cold bridges”.
A thermal break, which insulates the outer and inner layers, is designed to solve this difficulty. This layer is installed in various parts of the door, usually the frame or the leaf itself, and prevents contact between the outer and inner layers of metal, as a result of which each part remains at its own temperature. The thermal component also solves the following problems:
- prevents the flow of heat into the corridor (outside);
- reduces electricity bills because there is no need to turn on the heater (if it is possible to regulate the supply of heating separately to the apartment, it reduces the cost of it);
- the metal door does not freeze from the inside, frost does not form on it, and condensation does not form;
- Locks and fittings last longer;
- has anti-corrosion treatment.
Types of doors
In addition to the separation options provided for all entrance doors (for example, single or double leaf, hinged or sliding, by metal thickness, type of locks, insulation options), models with a thermal break have their own classification. The types of such models depend on the criterion underlying the division.
Based on the number of elements, they are distinguished:
- with 1 insulating insert (usually on a canvas or box);
- with 2 inserts (in canvas and box);
- with a large number of thermal breaks (installed in the canvas, frame, stiffeners, near door handles, etc.)
By connection:
- Bolted. Involves fastening using steel bolts and nuts or rivets. Most models are equipped with this option, although in this case contact between external and internal metal parts remains through the steel elements (albeit in a minimal area).
- Through a thermal insert. The thermal break does not have fasteners; after installing the structure of the canvas or the box, an insulating substance is poured into the required areas and hardens.
- Through micro-incisions. At the junction of the outer and inner metal parts, many closely spaced holes are made using laser cutting. In this way, a reduction in the area of “cold bridges” is achieved. This method is quite rare; customer reviews note its low efficiency.
By integrity:
- thermal breaks that can be removed;
- stationary, pouring into the cavity and solidifying, or added at the stage preceding bending of the sheet (they form one whole with it).
By number of layers:
- 1;
- 2 or more connected to each other.
According to the material:
- PVC. In the form of a thermal break, it is a cavity filled with air or a solid cast part. Durable material that also has low noise and moisture permeability. Thermal conductivity depends on the type of material. Not recommended for a country house in very cold winters; it can be used for an apartment with access to an entrance or to a site, rather than to the street.
- Izolon. This is foamed polyethylene, which has a porous-cellular structure. It can be foil-coated on one or both sides and is often used in combination with other materials. It has low vapor and water permeability and is responsible for sound insulation. Thermal conductivity – 0.031-0.037 W/m*°C.
- Expanded polystyrene. It consists of polystyrene granules filled with gas and sintered together. This is a type of foam. It has low water and vapor permeability, thermal conductivity is 0.028-0.037 W/m*°C.
- Cork (crushed, compressed tree bark for technical purposes). It has a honeycomb structure, the internal space is filled with a gaseous mixture. This structure allows for low thermal conductivity. Thermal conductivity is 0.0363-0.13 W/m*°C. This material also provides sound insulation, is waterproof, and does not lose shape. Natural cork is not harmful to health.
- Tree. Natural breeds are rarely used, because have a high cost. Additional protection from moisture is required. Thermal conductivity depends on the specific rock, on average from 0.095 to 0.4 W/m*°C.
- Foil penofol is an inexpensive material consisting of foamed polyethylene, covered on 1 or 2 sides with aluminum foil. It is used more often only as an additional layer of insulation, namely as a heat insulator. Has low permeability to moisture, steam, sound. Flexible, requires fixation. Thermal conductivity – 0.037-0.052 W/m*°C.
- MDF (or medium density fibreboard). It is small wood shavings that have been subjected to heat treatment and gluing. Protects against heat loss and sound transmission. Less resistant to moisture than other materials (except wood). Thermal conductivity – 0.064-0.12 W/m*°C.
- Mineral wool. A product of molten glass cullet, sand, rocks or blast furnace slag. Contains clay, dolomite, limestone as impurities, and formaldehyde resins as a binder for the components. After melting, the viscous mass is placed in a centrifuge, where it is torn into individual fibers and coated with resins. It protects well from noise, allows steam to pass through, and requires additional waterproofing. The question of the health hazards of resins and fiber remains controversial. Thermal conductivity, depending on the type, is 0.035-0.07 W/m*°C. The indicator gradually increases due to moisture penetration (by 50% in 3 years) if there is no waterproofing.

The Forpost brand unites products from different manufacturers, including Door Continent, Citadel, Fort, Bastion, Rubezh, Pandoor. Some people are confused that some of the doors are made in China, but this allows us to offer good quality at low prices. Due to the enormous popularity of the brand, they began to counterfeit it, so it would be a good idea to check the certificates when concluding a contract.
S-428 — 10,800 rub.
A-35 — 11,510 rub.
In general, the thickness of the canvas should be at least 1.5 mm, otherwise the door can be opened with an ordinary can opener. But 2 - 2.2 mm can be called the ideal thickness. After all, if you make the door wider, the door will become too heavy, and additional hinges will need to be installed. In an ordinary apartment there is no need for such doors.
Video description
Video on how to install a steel door:
- Concreting.
The design of the door frame must have an open profile, the shelves of which are adjacent to the walls of the doorway. After drilling, anchors or reinforcement pins are inserted into the holes, and then the voids in their channels are filled with mortar. The method is characterized by maximum reliability, although it requires more time and labor.
- Reinforcing the opening.
If it is necessary to install steel doors on not very strong walls, they are reinforced with a double-sided steel frame. The outer and inner contours are connected by metal jumpers, and then the door structure itself is attached to it.
Important! Proper door insulation is not limited to the filler in the cavities of the leaf and the sealing contour around the perimeter. During installation, it is equally important to fill with special materials all the resulting voids, which also arise between the frame and the doorway.
Neman
offers doors in a different price category. But they are made from high-alloy steel. Its advantages are strength and resistance to deformation. By the way, the company has more than once received patents for its own production technologies.
K-7 - 55,100 rub. N-1011 — 158,200 rub.
One of the most important parameters, in addition to reliability, is noise insulation. It is provided by MDF panels, which are installed inside the door leaf. Ideally, on both sides, and their thickness should be at least 10 mm.
