Shpros on plastic windows. Types and features of selection

Not only the geometry of the window influences the creation of the original style. One of the most common ways to decorate window structures is to equip them with frames (decorative trims). A façade equipped with PVC windows with frames applied to them takes on a particularly elegant, stylish look. Decorative elements, called frames , are often involved in the glazing of buildings of various purposes and designs - from modern to vintage styles.

Various types of weaves are used, which can significantly change the appearance of the entire window structure, therefore, before ordering, customers pay special attention to what kind of interlocking bars can organically complement the design.

Types of sprats

The modern market for plastic windows offers various types of frames:

  • according to form;
  • width;
  • geometry of weave direction.

Thus, the customer can, without much difficulty, completely transform the appearance of the window by equipping it with arched or straight bars, carved in the form of various geometric shapes, circles, stars, etc.

The location of the crossbars also does not provide for any restrictions on the direction of the sectors, the location of which may be symmetrical or not. Separating strips applied to the window allow you to give the product a finished look, harmoniously complementing its design.

The use of spraters used to be rather a necessity due to the high cost of glass. Installation of decorative overlays into the frame was carried out in small parts. The development of modern technologies has eliminated the need for window frames, however, their use is still in demand when arranging housing or non-residential premises with plastic windows if their dimensions exceed standard ones.

Decor options

Due to the heaviness of the structure of large windows, they need to be further strengthened. To strengthen the glass, its elements must be cut out and reinserted individually, thereby reducing the overall load during operation.

Window frames can be made of wood, metal, plastic, and the width is selected at the discretion of the customer.

The price of a structure with sprocket bars depends, first of all, on the massiveness of the product and its width.

From a design point of view, attics equipped with windows with decorative shutters look original. Stylish curtains or the production of original blinds will help complete the process of complete transformation.

With due diligence and knowledge of the intricacies of the process, every homeowner will be able to equip a window with sprocket bars without the involvement of craftsmen.

Double-glazed windows with spacers can be equipped with decorative elements of various sizes and shapes

Decorative overlays belonging to the Venetian type unite many varieties. In most cases, metal, polymer or wood are used for their manufacture. Double-sided tape or silicone is used to secure the binding. These materials can easily withstand aggressive environments when exposed to external influences, which allows them to be used not only for internal work, but also for fixation from the outside.

Venetian frames, also called false bindings, give a share to the imagination of customers and designers. The pattern of false frames on window structures can be changed if necessary.

The products are low in cost, and the ability to purchase a ready-made frame with easy installation in a double-glazed window makes this method of decoration accessible to most homeowners.

Decorative element close up

Sprats, classified as Viennese type , are similar in the method of fastening to Venetian sprats. A distinctive feature is the internal placement of a special spacer frame inside the glass unit, creating an effect similar to constructive interlocking. The sealing gasket is characterized by increased reliability, and the binding width does not exceed 76 mm. The spacer protrudes no more than 12 mm above the surface of the glass unit.

The method of installing inter-glass spacers is internal, through a special hole equipped with a spacer frame. A cross-shaped connector is used to fix the plates.

Sprats, made in the form of three-dimensional patterns, give special attractiveness and respectability to the design. 8mm plates bend to create the most intricate patterns and shapes. The product is painted in bulk, with the application of a varnish coating or film. An interesting option would be to apply two-color tinting to the window.

The sprockets in the form of an overlay are connected by a frame mounted to a wooden frame. The product is fixed from the outside, without touching the surface of the glass unit. This overlay allows you to decorate the window without the risk of accumulation of dirt and dust on the glass in the places where the brackets are installed. In bad weather, dirt and raindrops calmly flow down the glass surface, making it easier for owners to maintain the glass unit.

Installing overhead shutters is not difficult, but their use is limited: if the sash is opened using a rotating or sliding mechanism, its use should be abandoned.

How to install the layout yourself

To decorate windows yourself, it is better to use plastic elements. Beginner decorators are better off starting with a simple layout in the form of a classic binding. Creating a complex ornament will require special care and precision in execution.

Do-it-yourself installation of false bindings is carried out in the following sequence:

  1. Measure the window opening. Make a sketch of the layout of the future decor. Calculate the footage of the decorative profile.
  2. Mark the location of the layout on the glass.
  3. Using a sharp knife, cut the workpieces to the required length without burrs or roughness. Sloppy cuts will ruin the look of even the most beautiful design.
  4. Place it on the glass and check the accuracy of the dimensions.
  5. Degrease glass with acetone.
  6. Remove the protective film from the underside of the plank. Gently glue the decor with light pressure.
  7. Treat the joints with silicone sealant to give the cuts an aesthetic appearance.

We select sprats for the window

Thin strips can give an original look to the window, allowing light to enter the room unhindered.

Windows with frames allow you to equip classic country houses (see photo below). PVC construction acquires additional luxury and respectability in the eyes of others. Windows with applied overlays are especially impressive when installed in restaurants and cafes.

Decorative bindings allow you to accentuate and complement vintage, gothic styles, decorate with gold overlays and arches. For the Byzantine style, it is recommended to use semicircular shapes, reminiscent of windows in temples.

When selecting, it is important to take into account the architectural features of the building. You can entrust the choice to professional designers or do it yourself. There are special programs that allow you to see how window structures will look in the overall design of the entire house.

In addition to the design of the frames, the width, type, shade, and shape of the window structure are important in the exterior. Thanks to the use of various types of connections, a unique pattern is created, or the overlays are fixed at right angles. An incorrect choice of decorative frame can significantly deteriorate the design of the window.

The operation of inter-glass spacers depends on the quality of the products and their strength. In general, the period of use coincides with the duration of operation of the entire window structure.

The consignment note or Venetian spraz have the shortest service life

The finished pattern of the inter-glass interlock cannot be changed, so the selection of binding must be approached more responsibly.

Instructions for gluing false bindings (false overlays):

Storage:

  • False frames (false linings) for PVC windows should be stored in a dry place, do not twist, avoid direct sunlight.

Surface cleaning:

  • Clean glass with alcohol, ethanol or acetone. The listed products are used exclusively for glass, not for the profile itself! Do not clean glass with products containing surfactants (including household detergents for glass and dishes)! Do not clean glass with plastic care products! Do not use aerosols containing silicone in the installation shop.
  • When cleaning glass with alcohol, ethanol or acetone, wait until these substances have completely evaporated. When wiping glass with various cleaning agents, condensation may also form, which must be removed with a napkin or wait until it evaporates. The temperature of the glass surface should not be lower than the air temperature in the workshop. Otherwise, the condensation formed on the glass will worsen the quality of gluing.

Adhesive tape:

  • The adhesive surface must be clean and dry, therefore the protective film from the adhesive layer must be removed immediately before installing the false binding (false lining).

It is recommended to install false bindings in a workshop or workshop.

  • The false binding (false lining) must be cut at the appropriate angle. Cutting blanks of one binding is carried out minus 1.00 mm. The distance between the false bindings should be 0.5 mm per side. This is necessary so that the adhesive tape has a degree of freedom for unhindered gluing over the entire surface of the profile.
  • The cut must be made in such a way that the adhesive tape fits freely to the glass and sticks even with slight pressure.
  • The false binding and glass during installation must be at the same temperature, not lower than +18°C. When wiping the glass with ethanol or acetone, please wait until the glass reaches the room temperature again, since when wiping the glass its temperature has decreased.
  • Start the gluing process from one end, slowly and evenly pressing the profile onto the glass. False bindings should not be stretched when gluing, otherwise they may come off over time. The cut joints of false bindings must be handled especially carefully and precisely, otherwise more air may appear on one side than on the other, which can also lead to false bindings (false linings) coming off.
  • The process of gluing surfaces lasts from 18 to 24 hours at temperatures from +16°C to +25°C. The false binding should not be pressed. During this time, windows should not be transported.
  • As a rule, a false frame (false trim) on PVC windows is glued symmetrically on both sides of the glass unit, because if the false trim is glued only on the outside, the inside of the window does not look aesthetically pleasing.
  • False Bindings
  • PVC strips
  • PVC corner
  • Hollow cover
  • Comb handles
  • Window locks
  • Anti-fragmentation film
  • Temporary protection film
  • Varnish "Glass-toner"
  • Adhesives, sealants

How do interlocking bars affect the thermal conductivity of a window?

One of the main characteristics of the design is the ability to insulate heat. When the glass is damaged by sprat, the thermal insulation becomes worse. A low heat transfer coefficient is observed at the junctions of glass with the window profile, where heat loss is observed. Thermal conductivity without equipping windows with decor is 10-20% higher. Thus, the installation of shrouds leads to a decrease in heat retention indicators.

An excessive number of layouts increases the cost of maintaining the temperature in the room.

The more layouts on the windows, the colder the room.

Viennese sprats with a spacer frame have a similar effect on heat retention. The spacer acts as a bridge that conducts cold air, which may result in problems with fogging and freezing. Structural type shrouds retain heat the worst; Interglazed decorative elements made of aluminum also reduce insulation. Venetian type sprats do not change the thermal conductivity indicators.

Distinctive features

How are they different from each other? First, more about inter-glass interconnects. They are the ones that are used most often. As for double-glazed windows, which are very popular these days, they have grooves inside. And this has certain advantages. Window maintenance is made easier and there is no increased contamination. These windows are much easier to clean. But at the same time, their thermal conductivity is higher, this applies to those into which sprocket bars made of aluminum are inserted. It conducts heat much better than the gas that fills the glass unit from the inside. This can be seen very clearly in winter, during frosts. Condensation collects inside the windows along the shutters. It appears in those places that are colder than the rest of the window surface. For regions with cold climates this matters. After all, this largely determines the maintenance of comfortable indoor temperatures in winter. Double-glazed windows that are filled only with gas have a lower thermal conductivity coefficient, in other words, such windows retain heat better.

Plastic is also used as a material for these structures. Inter-glass spacers are not afraid of sunlight and are not subject to deformation. They can last for a very long time. And they do not interfere with window cleaning at all, since they are located inside. Patterned shutters with noticeable volume look wonderful and give the windows and the general appearance of the building a special charm.

Venetian bars, unlike interglazed ones, are strengthened on both sides of the window, of course from the outside, and not inside the double-glazed window. Usually they are simply glued to the glass unit using sealant or double-sided tape. Therefore, if desired, such sprockets can be removed or replaced at any time. Most often, plastic is used for their manufacture. Sometimes they can also be made of aluminum or wood. They are also called false bindings. Such products are quite inexpensive. It is also easy to install them in a double-glazed window. And if desired, almost all homeowners can afford to decorate their windows. The main disadvantage of Venetian window frames is that dust and water accumulate in the bends and joints during precipitation, which is why the windows quickly become dirty. And there is a need for more frequent washing. In addition, their service life is not very long.

Viennese sprasses are a cross between Venetian and constructive ones. The strips are reinforced on the outside of the blade. And on the inside, at the same level, other strips are installed - distance ones. Externally, such windows look as if their surface is divided. In order to ensure the immobility of such a structure, the frame is additionally compacted. The thermal insulation properties of such windows are lower. They can fog up and freeze.

Are there any disadvantages to windows with spraters?

Structural sprockets, in addition to high thermal conductivity, are characterized by the formation of stains after bad weather. Venetian sprats are characterized in a similar way. For structural sprockets, it is impossible to create intricate patterns and bends with a small radius.

The design of the room also depends on the level of natural light. Creating a unified design also depends on the choice of furniture and other design elements. The use of decorative elements should be measured so that the overall appearance of the facade does not look overly pompous. Overlays in the form of sprats help reduce the transmission of light into the rooms.

The use of grommets in areas of high low-frequency vibration is not recommended

Air vibrations cause the fastenings of the structure to become loose and cause an unpleasant rattling sound when the linings hit the glass.

Size range

Basically, manufacturers agree on standard sizes - 8, 18, 26 and 45 mm. This is the thickness of the sprockets, which is universal. If you want a thinner design, doubts may arise about its reliability. Unless these are special curved bars that can take on any shape, they are made to order.

Depth, width, thickness, all other dimensions are always selected for a specific window.

If this is an experienced company, it will offer several options and create a computer design with a preview. That is, the customer’s choice is almost unlimited.

In what cases is it important to install brown windows?

Houses with brown windows are most often found in historic areas and suburban communities.
For window dressing, dark-colored profiles are also chosen, as they look solid and emphasize the respectability of the establishment. In the private sector, mostly dark roofing is used during construction, and it can be very difficult to choose the optimal combination of roof, facade and window decors. The easiest way to solve this problem is with the help of a universal brown color, choosing the right optimal tone. This color is in demand not only when decorating the facades of various buildings. Brown windows in the interior of interior spaces are used in several cases:

  1. When rooms are decorated in a classic style using furniture and wood trim in dark colors, the designs here primarily emphasize the elitism of the environment.
  2. To implement industrial-urban projects in the loft style, the original design of such premises requires the use of windows with dark frames.
  3. When decorating rooms in the Scandinavian style - although white color predominates in most of these interiors, in some cases it is important to use brown windows (mainly in country and forest houses).

However, the scope of application of brown windows is not limited to the listed examples. There are many situations when it is appropriate to visually highlight the area of window openings. This is best done using dark-colored structures.
