Types of glazing for country gazebos, their features and advantages

Glazed gazebos are functional, beautiful, and also provide reliable protection from rain, sunlight, and various insects . Most often, such structures are framed by wide windows and ventilation that circulates air in the room. Closed gazebos are more expensive than open ones, but they are more durable, functional and comfortable.

Design features

Glass gazebos can have regular geometric shapes, but they cannot be classified as typical. There are several design options; buildings can be:

  • round;
  • square;
  • rectangular;
  • hexagonal;
  • octagonal.

Note. Whatever type of gazebo is chosen, it must fit into the landscape.

Glazed gazebos with barbecues are a great place where you can spend time and not feel the presence of annoying insects.

Advice. Since the flow of fresh air into a glazed gazebo will be limited, glazing should be done with double-glazed windows that can be opened for ventilation.

Other options

In addition to traditional glazing methods, there are many alternative options to protect the gazebo from the negative effects of the environment. So, for example, for open metal structures such as a canopy, it is advisable to cover large openings with polystyrene sheets, resulting in an indoor pavilion.

Transparent roller shutters for the gazebo will help protect the space not only from bad weather, but also from the sun's rays

But if the urgent question arises of how to close the gazebo for the winter, then roller shutters are the best choice; some models are equipped with a lock. Lockable roller shutters are very convenient if no one lives on the property; such precautions will save you from attacks by intruders.

Windows for a gazebo with stained glass inserts look very impressive and stunningly beautiful; of course, this is an expensive pleasure, but such a building is a real masterpiece, and, without a doubt, a decoration for any site.

Gazebos with barbecue

Glass gazebos for summer cottages, with a barbecue installed inside, are not uncommon today. But their convenience, as well as functionality, is considered a highlight for the garden. These designs help you not to be interrupted from communicating with friends when you need to add firewood or turn the cooked meat over to the other side.

Note. You can relax and cook in such a gazebo in any weather.

There is another type of glazing that needs to be treated with caution, as it can only be used in warm weather. This is cold glazing of gazebos: although spending time in such a room is limited, the glazing will protect the room well from rain, wind and insects.

To do this, you can use a system that represents a metal profile with one glass. The sashes can be installed hinged or sliding, with a height of 1.6 m.

Cold glazing in the gazebo is intended only for summer holidays

Dimensions of the room and materials for construction

The dimensions of the future building can be described in several ways. The diameter, if the gazebo is round, does not go beyond 5 meters. Width and length, if the project is planned in the shape of a rectangle or square, typical sizes are from 3 to 6 meters.

On a note! Sometimes there is a description of the volume of a room in terms of the capacity of people. Large gazebos can simultaneously accommodate up to 25 people.

Gazebos are built from all kinds of materials. The tree is recognized as the leader. It is combined with other types of raw materials. Due to its availability and relatively low price, wood will be a suitable building material for construction. Most often the list of materials includes pine or spruce. The second option is stone or brick, they also claim to be a worthwhile choice. Such gazebos are durable and of high quality; their service life is estimated at 15-17 years.

Frameless glazing type

This option is called cold, but gives a beautiful appearance to the structure. The frameless glazing of the gazebo is a separate building that is glazed on all four sides. The absence of vertical posts looks like a solid wall of glass, which gives the structure an edgeless appearance . Such glazing of gazebos is common, although this direction in architecture is new.

Advice. It looks great when the opening height is from 1.8 m to 3 m. For technological reasons, glazing higher is not recommended.

When introducing frameless glazing of gazebos, you can use two systems:

  1. Parallel sliding. This option assumes the presence of doors that move parallel to each other, like doors in a wardrobe. This has a micro-ventilation system.
  2. Book system. It assumes that the doors work like folding a book in the corner of an opening. In addition to slot ventilation, there is a fixation of the sash in the slightly open state.

Which system to use is up to the owner to choose. But for glazing gazebos, the second option is most often used, and the first is used for verandas and terraces.

Such gazebos allow you to admire all the beauty of your garden plot.

Flexible glass

Using flexible glass for a gazebo, the final result can be window structures with high functionality. This option has a large number of advantages. These include:

  • excellent protection;
  • aesthetics;
  • safety;
  • long service life;
  • efficiency;
  • strength;
  • high level of light transmission;
  • easy installation.

The film used for windows is of good quality. It also perfectly protects the inside of the room from dust, pollution, as well as rain and wind . Pesky midges or mosquitoes will not interfere with your wonderful rest.

Advice. To enhance this protection, you can install a special mosquito net that does not interfere with the passage of oxygen and can be easily removed.

Gazebos with flexible glass are easy to install and look great

A gazebo for a summer residence, glazed with soft windows, is a safe option. This material is durable and at the same time flexible, it cannot be broken and inflicted wounds. It is practical if there are children in the family.

Advice. This gazebo can be used as a playroom or children's room in the fresh air.

Modern technologies make it possible to produce soft windows in original, as well as very beautiful options with a wide range of colors. Their appearance is neat and stylish. There is the possibility of auxiliary decoration, which is suitable for both a country plot and a cafe.

Note. Soft glass for gazebos is available in transparent or colored versions; you can also choose a film with various patterns or a printed logo.

Soft windows are not 100% airtight, but with them it is possible to carry out some activities in the winter if additional heating elements are installed.

Such gazebos have a stylish look, glass can be used in different shades

The service life of such material reaches 10 years of high-quality use. The film contained in such windows does not deteriorate from exposure to UV rays and does not lose its elasticity over the years, as it has a high-quality structure.

Note. Practice has shown that this type of film can be used in open sun for at least 5 years.

Sheet acrylic glass

In other words, it is plexiglass, which is a transparent material consisting of thermoplastic resin . Transparent sheets can be different, both light-diffusing and light-transmitting. There are two types of plexiglass for gazebos: extruded and cast.

Both options have excellent characteristics, which include:

  • easy processing due to high plasticity;
  • increased impact resistance;
  • wide range of colors;
  • standard dimensions: 2030×2050 mm;
  • thickness varies from 2 to 200 mm;
  • light transmission is 93%;
  • a light weight;
  • high resistance to adverse weather conditions;
  • resistance to high humidity and bacterial growth;
  • environmental material;
  • recycling is possible;
  • guarantee up to 30 years.

Note. Differences exist in the molecular structure: in cast glass the molecular weight is up to 3,000,000, and in extruded glass up to 150,000. For this reason, the cast material is resistant to cracks and lends itself well to engraving and laser cutting.

Plexiglas gazebos are durable and pleasant to be in.

Stained glass windows for the gazebo

Stained glass windows have been popular for a long time in country houses, industrial premises, and also for gazebos. They are very practical and no less functional. Their main characteristics are:

  • safety;
  • maintaining optimal indoor temperature;
  • comfortable environment.

Purchasing and installing stained glass windows for gazebos means decorating the interior in an original way, bringing color and brightness to the design of your garden plot. Using this type of glazing, you can construct not only walls, but also a roof. Practice has shown that stained glass structures are not afraid of snow, rain and other weather phenomena.

The stained glass windows used for the gazebo add originality to the structure

Before installing stained glass windows in the gazebo, it is necessary to take into account the humidity in the room. At an increased rate, the surface located under the mirror must be covered with a special solution.

Note. The frame also needs to be selected correctly in order to comply with the standards for size, as well as weight in relation to the mirror.

There is warm and cold stained glass glazing. It depends on the manufacturing technology, which can be:

  • painting on one side is perfect for tubeless and single-chamber designs;
  • painting on both sides, more often used for tubeless systems;
  • stained glass windows are set, they are rarely used due to their high cost;
  • imitation stained glass, a special film that is attached to the window.

Materials for construction

When choosing building materials, you need to consider what the gazebo will be intended for. If you plan to cook food over a fire in this room, you need to make sure that the walls can withstand the effects of steam, as well as temperature changes. The last condition is explained by the fact that such premises are not heated constantly, but only from time to time.

A traditional wooden gazebo looks good in the garden. Wood is resistant and durable; the main thing is to treat the surface with a special fire-fighting compound. Materials such as timber and boards are suitable for work.

You can build a stone or brick gazebo. You can make a barbecue from the same materials. In such a gazebo it will be cozy and warm, it will last a long time. However, such construction will cost you a lot.

When creating a gazebo, you can combine different materials and make expressive accents. This design will look even more interesting. But the most original option is a glazed gazebo. Panoramic glazing allows you to sit by a cozy fire and admire the landscape outside the window.

Bottle gazebo

If you want to save money on construction, there is one unusual option - using glass bottles. A gazebo made from glass bottles is a simple process, and besides, you don’t need to spend money on building materials.

For load-bearing walls of this design it is necessary:

  1. Prepare the foundation. Then place pillars every 2 m (the distance should be uniform). These supports will serve as the main elements that take on most of the loads. The thickness of the pillars should be similar to the thickness of the walls.
  2. Surround the resulting distance between the supports with formwork made of wood. Prepare a solution and apply a thin layer to this foundation. Place the bottles in a vertical position on the solution, having previously closed the neck.
  3. After the first row has dried, place the second row in the same way. It is necessary to maintain a distance of 2 cm between the bottles, which is subsequently also filled with cement.
  4. Filling should be done in such a way that the neck is hidden under the solution by 2 centimeters. Before installing the next row of bottles, the first one must harden well. Repeat the procedure until the entire wall is finished.
  5. This design will be durable, and due to the voids in the bottles, thermal insulation will improve. You should take any bottles, both in color and quality. You can assemble them yourself or purchase them at an affordable price. But, be that as it may, this option will cost much less than the others.

Carrying out such a design yourself is easy and cost-effective.

All of the options for glazing a gazebo are a step towards a comfortable and complete rest. The main thing is to choose the optimal system for a particular situation and turn the gazebo at the dacha into a cozy house.

Step by step construction

After choosing a suitable location, selecting tools and creating drawings, you can begin the construction itself. This process is lengthy and requires a lot of work. The owner will have to create a foundation, form a frame and do the exterior decoration of the room. For convenience and to increase the speed of construction, it is advisable to enlist the support of several more people.

Foundation

Brick structures or structures built using masonry technology are heavy. For stability and reliability of the building, it is recommended to lay a slab or strip foundation.

You must act according to the following algorithm:

  1. At the site of the future building, dig a hole, the depth of which should be 1 m.
  2. Pour a 20 cm thick layer of crushed stone into the recess and compact it.
  3. Lay the waterproofing film.
  4. Install the fittings.
  5. Make a solution of crushed stone, sand and concrete in proportions of 5:3:1, respectively.
  6. Pour the resulting mixture into the hole.
  7. Install metal pipes in those places where load-bearing poles will subsequently be mounted according to the drawings.

Pay attention to landscape design ideas for a summer cottage using scrap materials.

For the solution to completely harden and seal the structure, you must wait at least a week. After this, separately using the same principle, you can build a concrete base for the furnace. The last stage is the installation of load-bearing pillars.

Creating a wireframe

For strength, warmth and fire safety, it is better to build a structure from brick. You will also need a universal solution of 1 part M500 cement and 4 parts fine sand, diluted with water.

Having the necessary materials, the owner needs:

  1. Soak the bricks in a container of water.
  2. Start laying from the corner: lay out the first row without mortar to find out whether the perimeter of the structure is a multiple of the dimensions of the building materials.
  3. Use a level to determine the evenness of the resulting surface.
  4. If necessary, saw the last brick in the row to match the dimensions of the structure.
  5. After laying the first row, form corners for the next 4-5 levels.
  6. Achieve a meter height of the structure.

Important! It is recommended to lay no more than 6–7 rows at a time to avoid deformation of the building.

In the same way, you can lay the frame in 2 rows to insulate the room. If you make a building with a thickness of 0.5 bricks, you will get a gazebo suitable for use only in the summer season. Don't forget to leave the doorway: otherwise, dismantling part of the wall will be problematic.

Floor

A foundation poured with concrete can already be considered a finished floor, but for decorative purposes the owner can lay another layer. If the gazebo is supposed to have a barbecue, the wood covering is not recommended for use.

Therefore, other common options remain:

  • natural stone slabs;
  • DSP;
  • paving slabs.

Provided that the foundation is poured with concrete correctly, further leveling of the floor will not be required, and you can immediately begin laying one of the materials.

Whatever material you choose, the installation principle is the same:

  1. Form alternate layers of sand, gravel and river soil, 3 cm each, and compact.
  2. Fill in another layer of sand and cement the entire mixture.
  3. Using a rubber hammer, lay the slabs.
  4. Use a level to check whether each element is mounted level.

This method of installation allows you to make the floor the smoothest and most pleasant in terms of appearance. However, installation of slabs is not necessary if there is a good concrete foundation.

Roof and roofing

Before building this structural element, it is important to think through the drawing to the smallest detail and decide on the type of roof: the most classic and simple options are gable and hipped.

Next, follow the following algorithm:

  1. Form the main frame from rafters using wood or metal materials.
  2. Install insulating films from steam and water, as well as insulation, between the slats.
  3. Secure the cross bars and interior trim.
  4. Lay the roofing covering on the resulting structure.
  5. Mount skates on the protruding parts to completely fix the structure.

Decorative mill on the site

It is noteworthy that almost any material can be used for the roof if you create a soundproofing layer. To do this, it is enough to lay sheets of plywood on the counter slats and cover them with soft material, for example, roofing felt.

Glazing of the gazebo

After all the work done, all that remains is to install the windows.

To do this you need:

  1. Treat the wood with an antiseptic, which will subsequently be used to form the frame.
  2. Mount the supports on the site in 1 m increments to divide the entire structure into sections.
  3. Use custom frames or cut them yourself so that a gap of up to 0.5 cm is allowed.
  4. Secure the frame without glazing.
  5. Fill the remaining cracks with foam.
  6. Seal the grooves using silicone sealant.
  7. Install glass.
  8. Treat the edges of the windows with sealant.
  9. Secure the glazing using a thin piece of wood.
