The essence of double glazing is that two rows of windows are installed in the window opening. Do not confuse them with ordinary Scandinavian windows, according to the principle of which carpentry windows are constructed from two frames. In this case, plastic windows are combined into one single structure.
Most often, this option is forced to be used for windows facing noisy avenues. This is a last resort solution if installing one window does not provide the necessary sound insulation. If double glazing does not help solve the noise issue, then there are only two options left: change apartment, or get used to the noise. There are no more effective solutions than double glazing.

An important feature of double glazing with plastic windows is a slightly reduced light opening. This only happens when windows of different sizes are installed in one opening. Well, you have to pay for quality. But, fortunately, this is the only drawback; moreover, the light opening is reduced very slightly and there are solutions without reducing the light opening.
Each second window is always an individual solution, so there are no standard installation technologies: sometimes only one window out of two is replaced, sometimes both at once, in some cases the second window is made of special thin frames so that the first window can be opened through it. For the best sound insulation, it is necessary to use the widest profile in combination with a wide double-glazed window, in which all glasses have different thicknesses. The wider the profile and the thicker the glass in the double-glazed unit, the quieter the window will be.
Is it possible to use a window that is already installed?
In most cases, the window that is already installed remains in place and does not need to be replaced. Only the window for the second circuit is installed. If the second contour cannot be increased in size, then the first window also has to be changed, making it smaller. This need arises quite rarely.
Most often, the first window is changed at the request of the client and in order to ensure maximum sound insulation.
How much does the light opening of a window decrease?
Depending on the chosen solution for installing the second glazing thread, the light opening changes differently. It is often possible to solve the issue of sound insulation without changing the light opening at all.
How much does double glazing cost?
The cost of glazing depends on the chosen profile, glass unit, as well as the complexity of the work. Please note that this solution is not a budget solution and the cost of glazing one opening is at least 35,000 rubles.
At first glance, the cost may seem high when compared to simply installing a window, but this is not the case. Installing a second circuit window takes twice as long and requires the use of special acoustic materials, which cost a lot of money. Skilled craftsmen want additional payment for their special work, which is fair. In order for the master to competently and accurately measure the window with the second contour, he had to make mistakes several times and pay for his mistakes.

What fills the space between the windows?
In the pictures below, PVC panels are used to fill the space between the windows, connected to each other via a U-shaped connector. In some cases, instead of PVC panels, ordinary sandwich panels are used. The option of filling the space between the windows, as well as elements for fastening these fillings, are used depending on the specific case.

If any company or craftsmen promise to install a window with a second circuit and do not see this as any difference from a conventional installation, then you should not mess with such guys. The result of such work will be ineffective, and the second window, at best, will work only half of its capabilities. If you don’t believe me, then ask them what a stratophone is and its difference from triplex, how acoustic wool is used, why acoustic foam is not the best solution, what is transport noise insulation and what is its feature, how the thickness and density of glass relates to intensity sound.
