Temporary conservation
If one glass is damaged and there is no through hole in the block, then the crack must be preserved while a new element is being manufactured. This will help temporarily reduce heat loss in the room, prevent drafts and reduce noise levels.
Even a small crack leads to depressurization of the window system
To do this, use a transparent sealant specially designed for use with glass. With its help, the crack will not grow further. Apply the composition twice, maintaining a technological break of 2-4 hours. Detailed information on working with the material is indicated on the packaging.

FAQ
Our service specialists answer the most popular customer questions:
Is it possible to replace one glass in a double glazing unit?
Theoretically it is possible, but in practice it will be more expensive than replacing the entire double-glazed window at once. The high price is due to the need to transport the broken glass unit to production and back, since it will not be possible to hermetically seal the structure at home.
Is it possible to replace a double-glazed window without replacing a window?
Undoubtedly. When replacing only a double-glazed window, you save up to 60% of money compared to installing a new window. In addition, this move saves you from dust and the need to take out garbage.
Why change a single-chamber double-glazed window to a double-chamber one?
A double-glazed window with two chambers will increase not only the thermal insulation, but also the noise insulation of the room by 2-3 times. However, the differences in price will not be so significant.
Is it possible to replace single glass with double glazing?
Perhaps, provided that the frame design allows for this possibility.
Is it possible to replace a double-glazed window on the same day? And how much will it be?
Sometimes this is possible, but most often such an operation takes 2 or more days. The timing is determined by the need to manufacture a new double-glazed window in production, which is often busy.
How much does delivery cost?
Delivery cost from 1000 rubles. Depends on the size of the glass unit and the distance from the Moscow Ring Road. For more details, please call +7 (495) 298-55-28
Features of glass measurements and its preparation for installation
The visible dimensions in the window differ from the actual dimensions of the glass - part of the dimensions are covered with glazing beads. But you also cannot measure from the outer edge of one bead to the outer edge of the other - there is still a certain gap between the frame plus the thickness of the sealant around the perimeter of the block with glass.
Note. Of course, you can first remove the block for accurate measurements. But then it will have to be inserted into the frame again until the new glass is cut out. Not only is this extra work, there is a chance that the fragments may simply fall out.
Is it possible to take measurements without dismantling? Can. To do this, measure the distances from the outer edge of one bead to the outer edge of the other on each side of the frame, and subtract 10 mm from the obtained values. To check the correctness, they also measure the diagonals, reduce them by 14 mm (10x√2), check them using the Pythagorean formula as the hypotenuse of a right triangle.
The sharp edges of the cut glass must be treated before installation - it is safer to work, there is better adhesion to the sealant, and there is less chance of chipping during installation. Polishing, of course, is unnecessary (not a shelf), but you need to sand it a little. This can be done manually by wrapping a wooden block with sandpaper with a grain of 300-600, or with a drill and an attachment with the same abrasive grain.
It is also important to wash the glass thoroughly before installation, degrease it and dry it with paper towels. Especially the surface that will face the inside of the camera.

Window adjustment
Over time, it happens that the windows are not pressed as tightly against the frame as before. There is no need to even say that this damages the thermal insulation and requires repair. Now we will figure out what to do in such situations.
All plastic windows have a clamping device. It is an elastic band that can fail due to gradual loss of elasticity or shrinkage.
Fortunately, window manufacturers are aware of this problem. In particular, for such cases, the windows are provided with a system for adjusting the clamping tension.
To adjust the mechanism on the windows there are special mechanisms - trunnions. These are the same metal “barrels” that move along the rails when you turn the handle. Usually they are mounted three or four per window. You can turn them using a hexagon or a regular flat-head screwdriver.
Each trunnion has two slots, a long one and a shorter one. It is their position that indicates how to rotate the mechanism. So, in order to increase the tension (this is exactly what is needed in case of problems with the elastic band), you should turn the trunnion so that the long slot looks inside the apartment, and the short one looks out. If it turns out that the window has become difficult to close, it means that the tension should be slightly eased by a slight turn in the other direction. You need to turn all the mechanisms, otherwise you will only get a partial effect.
Different windows may have slightly different mechanisms that are adjusted slightly differently. There are three options:
- the axle is turned using a screwdriver, which is inserted into the groove in the center of the eccentric;
- the trunnion is slightly pulled towards itself with pliers and only then turned;
- the pin is simply turned with pliers, without pulling.
Before you start making adjustments, you should carefully check which method works.
On the windows of some manufacturers, this operation has to be carried out every season. The fact is that due to the characteristics of the material, the elastic band contracts slightly in winter and expands in summer. As a result, the clamping stress changes. This effect is not always noticeable, but if it happens, you will know what to do.
Replacing one glass in a double glazing unit
It is advisable to replace individual broken glasses in a structure only in rare cases when expensive components are used, such as triplex, tinting or mosaic inside a double-glazed window. In other cases, it is more advisable to replace the entire glass unit.
This fact is explained by the fact that most of the cost of the contract will be transportation of the structure, its sealing, drying, etc. It will be much easier and therefore cheaper to make a new double-glazed window.

Why do you need to replace the glass unit?
Not only broken glass is the reason for replacing a double-glazed window. There are a number of other reasons:
- Replacing a single-chamber double-glazed window with a double-chamber one - for example, in the kitchen it is recommended to install at least a two-chamber one, because Too much condensation collects on the windows.
- If there is a clear loss of tightness, cracks appear and moist air gets between the chambers, thereby spoiling the silica gel.
- Low sound insulation.
- The characteristic radial pattern is cracks from severe frosts.
Also, when replacing a double-glazed window, you should pay attention to the following possibilities:
- Increase sound insulation. Add glass, increase the distance between them and increase the thickness of the glass.
- To tint the glass - 1200 RUR/m2. This will reduce the penetration of sunlight into the room.
- Install shockproof film. Triplex technology prevents fragments from scattering upon impact.
- Perform decorative layouts in double-glazed windows. It is possible to use colored elements.

Why is it necessary?
Double-glazed windows sometimes require repairs. This can happen after deformation or depressurization due to improper installation, with regular violation of operating standards, or after mechanical damage, which is the most common cause. If a double-glazed window is damaged and the heat-shielding properties are lost, and condensation, plaque or ice forms inside it, then repair will not help, the only way out is to replace it.
Only an experienced technician should repair a damaged double-glazed window, since it is almost impossible to do such a complex job that requires special knowledge without the proper experience. Repairs require special knowledge of window design, as well as skills and experience in troubleshooting. A double-glazed window is a rather complex system, so if the mechanisms break down, the technician needs to know certain design features and be able to correctly select the parts that require replacement.
If it is necessary to urgently replace a double-glazed window, the payment may be adjusted. Replacement time up to 24 hours. More details by phone.
How to change step by step?
When installing glass in any type of frame: wood, PVC or aluminum, it is important to prevent the creation of voids and gaps between the glass and the window frame.
Note! Sometimes in poorly made frames, quarters made to look like glass may not be in the same plane, but with a difference in depth in the corners. If it is significant, then during installation the glass can bend and crack.
To prevent this from happening, the quarters are pre-planed. This can be done using a zenzubel, a folding plane and a regular plane, and in the corners you will need to remove the excess with a chisel.
Algorithm for installing glass in a wooden frame:
- Once the glass is cut to the required dimensions, the quarters are prepared, the sheet is inserted into the frame and checked to ensure that it sits correctly with a 3mm gap.
- If the glass does not go through the corner by 1-2 mm, the quarter is increased with a zenzubel by the required amount.
- If the glass turns out to be 1-2 mm smaller than the required size, which cannot cover the top block of the frame, then 3-4 mm pads are placed under the bottom.
- Next, you need to cut the glazing beads according to the dimensions of the frame and at an angle of 45 C. To do this, use a hacksaw and a miter box. If you don’t have a miter box on hand, then the markings are done with a construction corner; you can make a miter box yourself from 2 bars.
- First, the glazing bead is cut off on one side, inserted into the frame, a second mark is transferred to it, after which the second cut is made.
- Properly executed glazing beads are held in the frame without being secured with nails.
- After all 4 glazing beads are cut, they are marked so as not to be confused during installation and the nails are attached, paying attention to the angle at which the nail will go.
- Before installing the sheet, the frame around the perimeter of the quarter is covered with sealant or window putty.
- Insert the glass onto the putty with light pressure so that the putty comes out slightly.
- If the putty does not come out, then in this case you can additionally coat the perimeter in these places.
- The glazing beads are nailed tightly.
- The hammer head is protected with electrical tape, wound in 3-4 layers.
- The beads are secured with nails at a distance of 10-15 cm, these places are additionally coated with sealant.
- The nails are driven parallel to the glass so that they do not break it if they hit the corner of the glass.
- When hitting, the hammer is pressed against the surface of the blade and hit carefully.
- After securing the glass, remove excess sealant.
- The glazing bead is painted before installation or after, along with painting the wooden frame.
Note. PVC and aluminum windows with broken glass units are repaired at the factory. And if such windows are made with single glazing, then it is quite possible to install the glass yourself.
Single aluminum and PVC windows are a cold type of glazing and are installed on verandas, gazebos, balconies and other unheated rooms. installation technology is applicable for both PVC and aluminum windows:
- If you need to replace a window that is cracked, first remove it from the frame.
- Remove the glazing beads using a spatula, first squeeze them out, lift them up, insert a plastic plate into the gap, and then push out the glazing bead. The order of removing the glazing beads is the side ones, after the bottom one, the top one is removed last, so as not to drop the glass.
- Mark the installation locations of the spacers and the position of the beads.
- They take out the fragments.
- Clean the frame thoroughly.
- After the window dimensions are taken and the required panel is cut out, a fitting is done to make sure that the glass has the required size and there is a gap of up to 3 mm.
- If the window size matches the frame, the glass is inserted into the seal.
- Install the bottom bead, then the side beads and then the top.
Types of glass cutters
glass cutters are used for cutting glass : professional diamond, oil and roller . Oil is used for large volumes of glazing work. When pressure is applied to the glass, the cutting surface is lubricated with oil, resulting in a reduction in the frictional force that occurs during the movement of the glass cutter.
Roller
Roller is the most common tool. The cutters are made of hard alloy - tungsten carbide or carborundum. The diameter of the roller is 6.6 mm, and the movement reserve is 350 m. The cutting head has 3 to 6 rollers installed, the quality of work depends on this. The maximum glass thickness for a roller glass cutter is 7 mm.
Note! During operation, the rollers wear out, some users sharpen them on sharpening machines, and many believe that it is more profitable to buy a new roller glass cutter, since they are very cheap.
Advantages of a roller glass cutter:
- low cost;
- good cut quality;
- ease of operation;
- does not require professional skills to operate.
Disadvantages of a roller glass cutter: rapid wear of the rollers; it also cannot cut thick glass.
To reduce the cracking process, manufacturers of roller glass cutters advise lubricating the rollers with a special liquid before cutting glass.
Diamond
Diamond glass cutter is a professional.
Its cutting edge is made of natural or artificial diamond, with a tetrahedral cutting edge.
It can be pyramidal or curvilinear.
For beginners, it is better to start working with a curved diamond , since when using the first option it is difficult to select the required cutting angle.
If the glass cutter chooses the correct angle of inclination, then when running across the glass, a slightly noticeable scratch will form with a characteristic subtle sound.
Advantages of a diamond glass cutter:
- longest service life, can cut up to 50 km of glass;
- high-quality smooth cut;
- Can cut glass up to 20 mm.
The disadvantage of a diamond glass cutter is considered to be a more complex cutting technology, which is why it is more often used by professionals.
Oil
Oil cutter is a modified version of a roller glass cutter that has the function of automatically supplying a lubricating solution. When cutting glass, little is fed to the roller, at this time the friction force is reduced and the service life of the glass cutter is increased. Special oil or kerosene is poured into a flask built into the handle.
Advantages of oil glass cutter:
- long service life;
- highest cut quality;
- less formation of microcracks;
- versatility, has two replaceable heads for glass up to 10 mm at a sharpening angle of 135 degrees and greater thickness at a sharpening angle of 150 degrees;
- service life 30 km of glass;
- relatively low cost, only 50% higher than a conventional glass cutter.
The disadvantage of an oil glass cutter is that it requires timely refilling with oil.
In addition to the above-mentioned modifications of glass cutters, there are special ones, for example, radius or compass, for cutting round glasses of different diameters, for cutting tubes, as well as industrial glass cutters that work with machines with software.
Note! When you need to cut glass for simple window frames that do not require high protective characteristics, and you don’t have a glass cutter at hand, home craftsmen advise using sewing scissors for these purposes. Of course, their results will be worse, but for some cases it is quite acceptable.
What devices are needed to install?
Before starting to insert glass into the frame, the performer must put on protective equipment: clothes, shoes, glasses and gloves. In addition, the following tools and consumables must be prepared :
- knife and chisel;
- glass cutter;
- small hammer;
- silicone transparent sealant;
- hacksaw;
- window nails no longer than 15 mm;
- construction tape;
- measuring instrument: metal ruler, corner, tape measure;
- rags;
- pencil or marker for marking;
- cutting table with dimensions exceeding a sheet of glass;
- glazing beads;
- metal hacksaw for cutting glazing beads;
- putty;
- zenzubel or folded gebel.
Cutting instructions
The easiest way to glaze a window is in a new frame that is not contaminated with old paint and putty.
In order to prevent the performer from being injured by glass fragments during such a procedure, all safety requirements when working with glass must be met and, above all, have personal protective equipment: overalls, shoes, glasses and thick fabric or leather gloves.
Window glass cutting technology
- A cloth is placed on the table according to the size of the glass.
- The glass is thoroughly washed, deposits are removed and wiped dry.
- For an even cut, the glass cutter is carried out along the ruler with light pressure, in one movement; repeated movement of the tools is strictly prohibited.
- The glass is placed on the edge of the table and broken along the cut line.
- To break off a narrow strip, it must be held with special slots located on the head of the glass cutter or with tongs.
- If necessary, the corners of the glass are polished.
In addition to the above method of cutting glass using a ruler, you can perform this operation using a template. On the table where the sheet is cut, lines of the desired shape are drawn - straight or curved. The glass is moved along the surface to the desired line, after which a cut is made with a glass cutter; this option is well applicable for transparent glass.
How to measure correctly?
Handmade window frames, especially wooden ones, do not always have the exact shape of a rectangle.
Therefore, in such structures it is not enough to measure only one height and one width .
In this case, the following measurement scheme should be used: bottom width, top width, right height and left height.
If the frame size is large, then additionally measure the height and width of the frame in the middle.
Important! Measurements are taken from the side where the quarter for the glazing opening is selected.
Additionally, it is necessary to measure both diagonals of the glass frame. If the difference between them does not exceed 1%, for example, 90 cm and 90.7 cm, then such an error is neglected. If it is more, then this difference must be taken into account when cutting glass.
The sheet is cut with a reduction of 3 mm on each side . This is done so that the glass can be easily inserted into the prepared groove, and in addition there is a gap for the glass to expand during temperature changes.
For example, with a sash opening of 60x70 cm, the glass is cut out: (60 - 0.3) x (70 - 0.3) = 59.7x 69.7 cm. Based on the dimensions obtained, the glass is ordered from a glass workshop or cut out yourself.
Glass is measured with a tape measure; school rulers and tailor's meters cannot be used for these purposes. If the window needs to be inserted into an old window frame, then before measuring with a chisel or file, carefully clean the folds of the wooden frame from fragments of putty, protrusions and nails.
