Plastic sealed windows simply perfectly protect the interior space of apartments and country houses from noise, cold and dust. However, for the most part, such designs are standard and represent an ordinary “white rectangle”. Special decorative elements - layouts - will help make double-glazed windows more original and attractive. Windows in the interior of a private house with this design look very solid and impressive. Of course, such elements make the exterior of the building more attractive.
What are they and what are they needed for?
Layouts radically change the appearance of the window and make it super modern or look like vintage. They are narrow plates laid over the glass area in the form of a lattice or some kind of pattern.
You can clearly see how windows with a layout look in the interior of a private house in the photos presented on the page. Such double-glazed windows will certainly become a real highlight both in the design of the premises themselves and in the design of the building’s exterior.
In addition to their decorative function, such elements can additionally serve to protect windows from mechanical damage both from the outside of the building and from the inside. The layouts also look attractive on standard small double-glazed windows. However, the most beautiful “vintages” using them can be made, of course, on panoramic or very large windows.
Types of window frames
According to functionality and purpose, sprocket bars are divided into 2 types:
- Structural: included in the window design and complement its technical characteristics. The surface of the window is divided into several fields where double-glazed windows are mounted. They can only be installed at the window manufacturing stage. Their installation is possible if the width of the double-glazed windows exceeds 10-18 cm.
- Decorative: attached to a double-glazed window or placed on top. Do not affect the functional properties of windows. Overlay grommets can be purchased for an already installed window.
According to the installation method and appearance, decorative sprockets are divided into:
- Interglazed - installed inside the glass unit and attached to the spacer frame. They can be connected crosswise or at an angle.
- Overlays are strips that are mounted externally on a double-glazed window.
- Viennese sprats are distinguished by a sealing gasket on the working surface and a spacer frame placed inside the glass unit, simulating its division.
- Venetian - mounted only on one side (most often on the outside) or on both sides of the glass unit. They are easy to install and remove.
Dimensions
Such elements are therefore suitable for double-glazed windows of any area and size. Windows with layouts in the interior of a private house, however, will look harmonious only if the plates are correctly selected in size. The thickness of the profile used for the manufacture of such elements can be from 2 to 8 mm. For large double-glazed windows, of course, it is worth choosing wider and more massive slats. For small windows, only fairly narrow layouts are suitable.
The shape of elements of this type can be straight or curved. Based on their appearance, layouts can be classified into:
- wide;
- narrow;
- curved;
- milled.
Main varieties
There are currently two main types of window layouts on the market:
- false bindings;
- decorative sprouts.
Both of these varieties allow you to make your window design original and unique. They differ primarily in the installation method. Window shutters are often installed during the production process. Such windows are, of course, more expensive than regular ones, but at the same time they look much more original. Sometimes the shutters come separately from the windows. The peculiarity of such elements is that they are installed simultaneously with the double-glazed window itself.
In most cases, the grommets are located between the glass panes of the window. Sometimes they can be applied from the side of the room or from the street. But in any case, these elements must be attached to the frame or fittings of the package.
Windows with false sash layouts fit quite nicely into the interior of private houses. They differ from sprockets primarily in that they are glued directly to the glass. They are ordinary narrow decorative plates, one of the sides of which is coated with a fixing compound and covered with a special film. Such elements do not look as solid as sprats, but their installation can be done on already installed windows, including with your own hands.
Why do we need spacers on window frames?
Initially, sprats appeared for the reason that the production and transportation of large-sized glass was impossible or extremely difficult. And the window frames had to be divided into parts into which small pieces of glass could be inserted. Currently, such problems do not exist. However, window frames have not lost their popularity. They are readily used for decoration and functional features.
There is no doubt that interesting glass windows greatly change the appearance of a building. But it can also decorate the inside of the room, if it is made beautifully and elegantly, and give it a special appeal.
Deglazing is the division of a window sash inside into separate cells. Their shape can be different, and not just always smooth and rectangular. Interesting curves or beautiful shapes are possible. The color of the frames usually matches the color of the frames themselves. And this allows you to maintain harmony in the overall appearance of the exterior and interior. Such windows resemble stained glass. They also have frames with doors, except perhaps without a mosaic of colored glass. However, this depends on the imagination of the designer and homeowner. Sometimes sprats can be decorated with gilding if it is in harmony with the overall ensemble. What types of sprockets are used when installing windows? There are several of them. And the choice of one of them is determined both by the overall design and style of the building, and by the peculiarities of the weather conditions of the region, as well as by the financial capabilities of the homeowner.
Windows with layout in the interior of a private house: reviews
Owners of country real estate, as well as apartments in high-rise buildings, primarily consider the advantage of installing layouts to be the opportunity to make the window design more attractive and original. Also, as many owners of private houses note, such elements additionally strengthen the glass and also become an obstacle to the outflow of rainwater.
The disadvantages of this design among the owners of low-rise residential buildings include, first of all, the fact that double-glazed windows with layouts installed on them in some cases can become more difficult to maintain. Only windows with shrouds mounted between the frames do not have this disadvantage. Layouts installed outside or inside, of course, will interfere a little when washing glass. In addition, dust accumulates quite quickly on top of plates of this type, both indoors and outdoors, as many home owners note.
Also, the owners of country real estate consider that some of the disadvantages of using layouts are that they can sometimes increase the degree of thermal conductivity of a double-glazed window. Owners of houses and apartments in cold regions of the country should, of course, keep this in mind.
Distinctive features
How are they different from each other? First, more about inter-glass interconnects. They are the ones that are used most often. As for double-glazed windows, which are very popular these days, they have grooves inside. And this has certain advantages. Window maintenance is made easier and there is no increased contamination. These windows are much easier to clean. But at the same time, their thermal conductivity is higher, this applies to those into which sprocket bars made of aluminum are inserted. It conducts heat much better than the gas that fills the glass unit from the inside. This can be seen very clearly in winter, during frosts. Condensation collects inside the windows along the shutters. It appears in those places that are colder than the rest of the window surface. For regions with cold climates this matters. After all, this largely determines the maintenance of comfortable indoor temperatures in winter. Double-glazed windows that are filled only with gas have a lower thermal conductivity coefficient, in other words, such windows retain heat better.
Plastic is also used as a material for these structures. Inter-glass spacers are not afraid of sunlight and are not subject to deformation. They can last for a very long time. And they do not interfere with window cleaning at all, since they are located inside. Patterned shutters with noticeable volume look wonderful and give the windows and the general appearance of the building a special charm.
Venetian bars, unlike interglazed ones, are strengthened on both sides of the window, of course from the outside, and not inside the double-glazed window. Usually they are simply glued to the glass unit using sealant or double-sided tape. Therefore, if desired, such sprockets can be removed or replaced at any time. Most often, plastic is used for their manufacture. Sometimes they can also be made of aluminum or wood. They are also called false bindings. Such products are quite inexpensive. It is also easy to install them in a double-glazed window. And if desired, almost all homeowners can afford to decorate their windows. The main disadvantage of Venetian window frames is that dust and water accumulate in the bends and joints during precipitation, which is why the windows quickly become dirty. And there is a need for more frequent washing. In addition, their service life is not very long.
Viennese sprasses are a cross between Venetian and constructive ones. The strips are reinforced on the outside of the blade. And on the inside, at the same level, other strips are installed - distance ones. Externally, such windows look as if their surface is divided. In order to ensure the immobility of such a structure, the frame is additionally compacted. The thermal insulation properties of such windows are lower. They can fog up and freeze.
Overhead bars are a separate frame. It is fixed on the window from the outside. It is only suitable for wooden windows. Such frames do not fit tightly to the windows. And therefore, precipitation pollutes the glass much less, since dirt and dust do not accumulate in the corners. Washing and cleaning windows can be done as usual, without any difficulty.
Windows with layout in the interior of a private house: design ideas
You can decorate a double-glazed window using such elements in absolutely any style. For example, with the help of layouts installed crosswise, it is easy to give the window a “rustic” look. This design is perfect, for example, for dachas or small country houses.
Very narrow layouts, mounted in the form of a lattice, will make the appearance of the window ultra-modern. The design of a double-glazed window when the slats are laid in the form of a line with a rhombus in its center can be considered a classic. In the photo below you can see exactly these windows with layouts in the interior of a private house. The view from the outside - from the street - of double-glazed windows with this design also, of course, cannot cause any complaints.
You can mount such elements on the window using more complex sketches. For example, some companies install shutters on windows in full accordance with the design of the window frames of the Winter Palace or other historical buildings.
Decorative sprats
They are used exclusively to decorate windows. They have no functional purpose. They are placed on the outside of a double-glazed window and divide one large one into two or more parts, and not vice versa, that is, they do not combine several small double-glazed windows into one. And only visually. And thanks to them, the load on the double-glazed windows is not removed at all. However, such frames can add extraordinary beauty to the windows, making the building look much more sophisticated. And different options for shape, width and even color will give the structure a feature and individuality. Decorative sprats are interglazed, overhead, Venetian and Viennese. Each variety has its own advantages and disadvantages.
How to mount it yourself: preparation
Design ideas for windows with layouts that usually fit perfectly into the interior of a private house can be used in a variety of ways. But how to properly install such elements with your own hands?
Before installing the false frame, be sure to draw a drawing of the window with all the layout elements indicating their sizes. Once this work is done, the window itself should be prepared. The glass needs to be thoroughly washed using some kind of degreaser and wiped. Before you begin installing the false frame, you also need to wait until the windows are completely dry.
At the next stage, markings using the drawing must be applied directly to the glass. This work must be done as carefully as possible. Otherwise, in the future, windows with layouts in the interior of a private house will not look particularly neat.
How to install
After the markings have been applied to the windows, you can proceed directly to the installation of the slats themselves. From them, guided by the drawing, you need to cut off the elements of the layout pattern to the required length. The planks should be cut so that there are no burrs left on their ends. This work must be done as carefully as possible. Otherwise, the joints will be visible later on the finished layout. And this, in turn, will, of course, make the window design unattractive and untidy.
Each strip cut in accordance with the drawing is first applied to the markings on the window, checking that its length matches the required one. Next, remove the protective film from the element. After that:
- The bar is applied to the glass with a precise movement according to the markings;
- glue the element by running your hand along its top.
You shouldn’t put too much pressure on the slats when installing them on a window. Otherwise, you can simply damage the glass. Manufacturers use fixing compounds for layouts in most cases, which are very strong and reliable. Therefore, the strips are glued to the glass very easily.
The final stage
The finished layout, provided that all required installation technologies are followed, will look very attractive on the window. Of course, the glue on the back of the planks, although usually very high quality, takes some time to dry. The specific curing time for such compositions is usually indicated by the manufacturer in the instructions for the false binding.
While the glue dries, the double-glazed windows, of course, should not be opened or closed. A window with a layout in the interior of a private house looks very attractive, but, of course, only if the slats fit very tightly to the surface. If the glass unit is disturbed ahead of time, these elements may simply move away. Gluing the planks a second time is usually not a very effective procedure.
