What is an Anti-Dust mosquito net?
The Anti-Dust variety of mosquito nets with fine mesh fabric is rapidly gaining popularity every day. Unfortunately - not from a good life. An anti-pollen mosquito net is a salvation for allergy sufferers, which all of us will soon be. The name of the mosquito net speaks for itself - the “anti-pollen” mosquito net is capable of trapping very small fractions of sand, dust, pollen, spores, small insects and, of course, mosquitoes. This is an affordable alternative to installing a bulky, expensive outdoor air conditioner. You can keep the window open at home, getting fresh air, but without street dirt. The air conditioner requires constant maintenance and refilling, which can only be performed by professionals. It is enough to wash the mosquito net yourself in the bathroom. In many other companies they will show you an “anti-fly” cloth, calling it “anti-dust”.

Anti-dust frame mesh is
- protecting the air we breathe indoors from allergens
- aesthetic appearance of the window
- the fabric is produced only in Holland by Poll-tex
- European quality standard.
And if there are trees or bushes growing under your windows, then the anti-pollen net is definitely for you. It will not allow midges that live in greenery into your home.
Secret ingredients
First of all, you need to wash your windows as you usually do. Just don’t try too hard, because this is just the beginning. For the next stage you will need to prepare a special composition. To do this, pour a liter of warm water into a bucket or basin. You need to add a spoonful of glycerin and a spoonful of hydrogen peroxide to it. The resulting solution must be mixed thoroughly. After this, add several crystals of potassium permanganate to it. Next, gradually stir the contents of the container until the crystals are completely dissolved.
Differences between the Anti-Dust mosquito net and a regular net
What distinguishes the anti-pollen mesh from a regular mesh is the size of the cell, which is 0.25 * 0.9 mm, and its shape. The standard anti-mosquito cloth has a square cell, while our anti-dust has an elongated (oblong) cell.
The color of the anti-dust mosquito net is dark gray. Just like regular frame mosquito nets, the anti-pollen mosquito nets are stretched onto an aluminum frame frame and rolled up using a rubber cord. For ease of use, plastic handles are attached to it. The installation of anti-dust mosquito nets is similar to the installation of conventional standard frame nets.
The best ways to protect your apartment from noise and dust
The specificity of Russian construction is such that very often new multi-storey residential buildings (according to some data, this is almost every third project) are built next to busy highways. Of course, this allows developers to claim that a particular project has “developed infrastructure” and “good transport links.” But, as you know, every coin has two sides, and often the close proximity of a high-rise building to a highway turns every day (and especially night) of local residents into a real hell: the howl of sirens of special service vehicles, periodic accidents, night races in cars with a direct-flow muffler. “Formula 1” has not been cancelled.
True, experts on the issue claim that as some kind of compensation for the inconvenience, apartments with views of the highway are sold at a certain discount. For example, in the primary mass housing market, such discounts, according to Metrium Group analysts, range from 2-5% of the starting price. In the segment of more expensive real estate, they can reach up to 20%.
Only you can win ten or two thousand rubles only once. But then, taking into account, to put it mildly, the not very high quality of construction of modern houses, you will have to deal with dust, noise, exhaust fumes and road lighting for the rest of your life. Let’s try to imagine what stages it will take to “finish with a file” such housing to an acceptable level of comfort, and what sums this could cost.
Stage No. 1. Noise gate
The main barrier to the penetration of the sounds of a busy highway into the apartment is the windows. In order not to suffer from them, standard plastic double-glazed windows installed by the developer will, in most cases, have to be replaced with non-standard ones. Experts say that the best degree of sound insulation can be achieved using a three-chamber window, in which the glass will have different thicknesses. Optimal combinations (in millimeters): 6+4+4 or 6+5+4. At the same time, the distances between such glasses should also differ. Such a window reduces the level of street noise by an average of 30-40 dB.
Sometimes replacing windows alone won't do the trick. In some particularly severe cases, it is necessary to ensure that in rooms with views of the road there are as few smooth surfaces reflecting sound waves as possible and as many noise-reducing planes as possible. So curtains and curtains made of dense fabrics (jacquard, corduroy, velvet, brocade, etc.) should be used; the presence of a long-pile carpet on the floor is highly desirable. It is better to finish wall surfaces with cork materials or panels made of stone and wood. Maximum relief in the form of paintings, wall clocks, all kinds of racks and shelves is also welcome.
Stage No. 2. Dust and gas filtration
It’s not just ordinary sand dust that blows into apartments from the road. These are also the smallest particles of various minerals and other components of the road surface, as well as fragments of deicing agents and car tires. The easiest way to mitigate the impact of such a mixture on the interior of the home is to install a supply fan. These devices have a variety of modifications and can be mounted in windows or on walls. In some cases, additional ventilation ducts, air intakes and supply pipes are required, but in general these are still essentially ordinary fans, sometimes additionally equipped with carbon filters. The cost of such devices is relatively low; the most unassuming ones can be purchased for 1-5 thousand rubles. You just need to remember that their service life is short. In addition, consumables, even if they are cheap, will have to be changed quite often.
Alternatively, you can get by with regular mosquito nets. In addition to insects, they are good at collecting dust, as well as pollen, which causes powerful allergic reactions. They cost even less than fans, but they have to be washed frequently, otherwise the natural light in the apartment is seriously affected.
Toxic gas car exhaust is much more dangerous than dust. It contains various oxides and hydrocarbons, as well as products of processing fuels and lubricants with a considerable content of lead.
Ordinary fans will not help in neutralizing them, nor will the most advanced carbon filters. The fact is that they capture only relatively large particles, and not micromolecules. And supply and exhaust fans are also weak protection against unpleasant odors. The so-called “breathers” (from the English breath - breath) will help achieve a much more noticeable effect.
These devices contain three filters at once. The first one catches large dust particles, the second one retains soot components, and the function of the third one is to catch gas molecules. Compared to standard fans, breathers are more reliable and durable. However, it is necessary to understand that the cost of such devices starts from 20 thousand rubles and can reach 40 thousand, and sooner or later they will still fail and will need to be replaced. Naturally, the price of consumables for breathers is also not cheap.
Stage No. 3. The fight for natural light
The busy highway brings surprises to residents of nearby houses every evening and every night. Residents of the lower floors are forced to put up with the blinding rays of car headlights and flashing lights that irritate the eyes from time to time searching their apartments. Owners of higher housing are forced to endure the light of powerful street lights, as well as various advertising signs and panels. There are two ways to combat these shortcomings.
The first one is budget-friendly, you just need to hang thick curtains, blinds or so-called “Roman blinds” on the windows. For the most “photophobic”, there are multi-layer options made from light-proof fabrics.
But do not forget that the most economical options usually have the most noticeable disadvantages. In this case, you will have to put up with limited visibility. Therefore, you can try a more expensive option - darkening the glass itself with a special light-protective film. Some of its types are made of polyester with the addition of metal coating (aluminum, titanium, silver, nickel bronze) and have a mirror effect.
Finally, you can use the most “pretentious” option and install an electrochromic (sometimes called “smart”) window. From a technical point of view, these are two glasses, the space between which is filled with a special conductive compound that can be painted in any color and changes the light transmittance according to the choice and desire of the owner. Naturally, this is the most expensive option, which, unfortunately, not every buyer of a new apartment can afford.
Modern technologies, summarizes General Director of Metrium Group, member of the CBRE partner network Natalya Kruglova , make it possible to completely neutralize all the shortcomings of some types of apartments, which at the beginning of the century were considered irreparable. But the buyer, she develops the idea, must be aware that using them may not be a cheap pleasure. So, if we are talking about buying housing in a residential complex of the mass segment, where the difference in the cost of objects with windows into the courtyard and views of the highway is usually small, the expert probably believes that it is better to weigh the pros and cons. After all, it may well turn out that an apartment with windows facing the courtyard will ultimately be the cheapest option.

Can I do it myself?
You can make a mosquito net for a PVC window with your own hands; for this you need to have at least a little skill in working with construction tools. It is also important to understand which grid design will be most optimal for the installed window.
Important. If you have no experience at all, then it is better to contact a special company that produces double-glazed windows and components for them and order such a device for protection against mosquitoes for the summer.
Advantages and disadvantages
To finally decide for yourself whether you need to make an insect net with your own hands, it is recommended to consider all the pros and cons of this solution. First, it’s worth understanding the positive aspects of this procedure :
Budgeting.
When making it yourself, the apartment owner can significantly save money on the purchase of materials. Firstly, he does not depend on the seller in choosing raw materials, and can independently visit a hardware store, focusing on his wallet.Secondly, he can purchase as many raw materials as he needs, again, without relying on the offer of the performing company. This is beneficial when the plastic window is small in size, and sellers often have a limit on the minimum cost of mosquitoes.
- Match window parameters. If you make an anti-mosquito net with your own hands, then with proper proper measurement you can achieve almost ideal results in joining the net to the window frame. Sometimes manufacturing companies may deviate from the dimensions, opting for streamlined mesh production.
- Possibility of independent selection of materials. Independent selection of raw materials is an important nuance. The owner goes to a hardware store and chooses the fastenings for the mesh, the frame, the type of its mechanism, the canvas and other features. If you order a mesh from a company, the seller will offer several options from which you will have to choose.
Important. Among the minuses, it is worth highlighting the error factor. If a person has never encountered the manufacture of such a structure, then most likely it will be difficult for him to immediately do everything correctly. You may need the help of a partner.
There is also a risk of choosing the wrong materials and the size of the mosquito net not matching the size of the window. This often happens because the measurements were taken incorrectly.
Do-it-yourself care and replacement of seals
The elastic seal around the perimeter of the sash is very important - it ensures tightness and prevents drafts. Rubber bands most often fail because they bear a large load, and accumulated dirt causes them to stick together and lose their properties.
To reduce wear, it is not enough to simply wash them. Manufacturers recommend lubricating the rubber bands. The lubricant protects the material from moisture and cold and extends its service life. In the store you can purchase both professional products and universal silicone lubricants - any option will do.
How to change seals on plastic windows if they still fail?
Seals for windows.
- First you need to find out which part requires replacement. Most often the gaskets on the frame fail. When you come to the store, consult with a specialist - he will help you choose the thickness and profile of the seal you need.
- Then you need to remove the old insert. Laying the new seal must begin from one of the corners of the groove. Then, pressing the material with your fingers, carefully place the elastic in its place.
Caring for plastic window fittings
Although PVC windows are easy to use, a complex fitting mechanism is hidden inside them. In order for this system to work correctly, and for the window to open and close easily, it must be properly cared for.
Lubricating hardware
During each ventilation, dust and dirt settle on the sashes and fittings, which accumulate and gradually complicate the operation of the units. Oil accumulates impurities that lead to friction, squeaking and grinding. If any of the parts fails, replacing it will cost a lot of money. To prevent such problems from appearing, you need to lubricate the seals and hinge connectors of the windows every six months. Silicone lubricants or regular machine oil for sewing machines are suitable for this.
Lubrication
How to lubricate plastic windows for the winter? In order to protect product parts from the cold, it is better to take a semi-synthetic or synthetic lubricant with a density of WD-40, which is neutral to rubber and plastic. It is most convenient to buy oil in a spray can. Treating plastic windows before winter will only take a few minutes, but will extend their service life for a long time. How to measure correctly
Before making the mesh, you need to determine its future dimensions. To keep the light opening as free as possible, the frame should be positioned flush with the edge of the frame and not block the space. At the same time, a tight fit of the mesh to the frame must be ensured, so every mm is important.
Procedure:
- Open the window sash for which the mesh will be made.
- Measure the light opening from one edge of the frame to the other between the sealing rubber bands, for example, the width. Dimensions are recorded in mm.
- Do the same for height.
This will be the internal mesh size.
The width of a standard aluminum or plastic mosquito profile is 25 mm. If you add 50 mm to the measured values - width and height - you get the size of the finished mesh along the outer contour. This is enough to buy the necessary components and get to work. You can go the other way and measure not the light opening, but the internal distance between the frame profiles with the sash open. In most windows, the width of the so-called “whisker” is 25 mm, that is, the result will be equal to the previous one.
Window handle repair and replacement.
Another part that often fails is the handle. It is this detail that people come into contact with most often. To avoid damage, you need to turn the handle gently and without pressure. If it fails, the easiest way is to replace the part.
Replacing the window handle.
1.First you need to unscrew the decorative plate at the base of the handle. Under it there are two screws on which the part is attached.
2. If you need to install a ventilation limiter, then before installing a new handle in its base you need to install a ventilation control plate - the so-called “comb”.
3.Then you need to tighten the screws and install the decorative plate.
