Basic properties
Making a truly universal primer is not easy. The surface material, the purpose of the compositions, based on operating conditions, force the manufacturer to produce entire product lines. Under the AQUASTOP brand, the Swedish giant offers soils:
- moisture insulators Aquastop Classic (universal);
- moisture insulators with additives of biocidal preparations (with Bio index);
- waterproofing mastics (Hidro);
- strengthening moisture barrier (Stepler);
- strengthening concentrates (Proffesional).
Specialized mixtures are excellent for creating reliable protection, but their cost is relatively high. All of the listed compositions perform fundamentally the same functions:
- protect the base from moisture;
- reduce the porosity of the treated surface, which reduces the consumption of paints and varnishes (hereinafter referred to as paintwork materials);
- equalizes the absorbency of the coating, thereby achieving uniform application of paintwork materials - after drying there are no stains or pigmentation;
- improve adhesive properties;
- increase the service life of the finish.
The result is achieved due to the formation of a moisture-proof film on the treated surface, which has the above properties.
Aquastop Classic soil-moisture insulator is considered a universal product.
AFTERCARE
During work and in the next two days, the temperature of the air and the surface of the base should not be lower than +5 ºС and not higher than +30 ºС. During the first day of hardening, the waterproofing layer must be kept moist and protected from exposure to precipitation, direct sunlight and freezing. Applying subsequent coatings, creating a screed, plastering and gluing tiles is possible no earlier than 3 days after installing the waterproofing layer.
Main advantages
The advantages of Eskaro Group AB primers are due to:
- Technical characteristics of the compositions - the product performs the tasks assigned to it, subject to the conditions of application and operation.
- Consumer qualities - convenience and speed of working with compounds. The treated materials dry quickly, which means time is saved before the next operation begins. There is no need to use special application tools other than inexpensive brush rollers or a spray gun. Liquid solutions are slightly colored, which allows you to immediately see where gaps remain and correct the situation. After drying, the film becomes discolored. Some products are supplied in concentrated form, which reduces transport costs for the supplier and consumer.
- Environmentally friendly - products are certified according to European Union standards and fully comply with ISO

Application areas
The purpose of Aquastop primers is determined by the manufacturer and is reflected in the Certificate of State Registration by the Customs Union of the Russian Federation, the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The product is certified for priming porous and moisture-sensitive surfaces made of wood, concrete, brick, plasterboard, chipboard, plastered walls in order to reduce porosity, increase adhesion and hardness of building materials.
Apply the composition under a layer of plaster. Coating the base with a primer to improve adhesion is also carried out before puttying, painting with water-dispersion paints, facing with ceramic tiles, or wallpapering.
Features of using Aquastop primer
Aquastop soil is non-toxic, it can be used in residential and non-residential premises, some types are suitable for use in outdoor conditions.
Before use, you must read the recommendations on the manufacturer’s website or on the product label, which indicate the climatic conditions of use, temperature and humidity at the time of application, and other requirements.
The soil does not contain volatile organic and inorganic solvents, it has almost no odor - the use of protective equipment for mucous membranes and respiratory organs is not necessary.
Most formulations are diluted to the desired consistency with water, but you need to make sure of this by reading the instruction manual.
The compositions are fire and explosion-proof and do not require special certificates from state supervision authorities - a letter indicating this property can be read on the website of Eskaro Group AB.
The manufacturer asks that you follow general occupational hygiene rules and store the formulations out of the reach of children. If the product gets into your eyes, rinse them thoroughly with clean water.
Primer composition
The manufacturer does not disclose the exact chemical composition of primers. It is known for certain that most of the Aquastop line is created on the basis of acrylic acids. To improve adhesive properties, special substances are added to the composition. In the same way, specialized compositions are obtained that are best suited for substrates made of various materials, for example, wood or plasterboard.
For wet rooms and wooden structures, it is better to purchase formulations with antibacterial additives that prevent the processes of rotting, mold or mildew. These properties of the primer are indicated by a special inscription on the label.
Dyes that become discolored after drying help to apply the composition without skipping.
Aquastop primers are produced in the form of ready-to-use formulations, concentrates and dry mixtures, which are diluted with water before application.
How to prepare the base for waterproofing work
To carry out work on applying internal waterproofing using the unique Aquastop system, it is necessary to prepare the base by eliminating possible leaks using a special fixer called Puder-Ex. This material is produced in the form of a powder that can quickly harden upon initial contact with water. At the same time, the material has excellent adhesion to concrete surfaces, as well as brick and stone masonry. After curing within a few seconds, the fixative becomes:
- durable;
- waterproof;
- resistant to low temperatures and other negative climatic influences;
- material insensitive to the action of aggressive chemicals.
Before use, powdered powder is not mixed with water. Squeeze a lump of dry powder in your palms for a few seconds, and then quickly apply it to the breakout site and hold the fixative with your hand for ten seconds. The material gets wet and hardens, firmly adhering to the surface being treated. If the breakthrough has a large area and cannot be closed in one go, then the procedures are repeated many times. At the same time, each time the leak site narrows and then is completely eliminated. “Weeping” surfaces, covered with leaked droplets of water, are treated with powder rubbed into them with the back of the hand. In this case, the movements should be directed up and down.
Important! When performing this work, the worker must protect his hands by wearing smooth rubber gloves.
A unique powder in the form of tiny powder particles allows you to eliminate a water breakthrough in a matter of seconds
Types of surfaces for priming
The company produces universal and specialized primers targeted at a specific type of surface.
Aquastop Classic universal primer is suitable for processing building structures made of concrete, aerated concrete, asbestos cement, brick, plasterboard, fiberboard and chipboard.
Aquastop primer for wood
The company produces special compositions for wood under the general brand name AURA. The line of wood protective compounds includes:
- AURA Fire-biostop protects wood from fire for 7 years and from rot, mold, and gnawing insects for 8–10 years.
- AURA BIOSTOP is produced on the basis of alkyd resins and highly purified solvents. The composition protects wood from most pathogenic microorganisms.
- AURA TERRACE, composition based on tung and linseed oils. Dries quickly, protects against rotting and blue staining, creates a water-repellent layer, and has decorative properties.
- AURA EKOTEX ETALON is a decorative antiseptic against rot, blue stains and mold. Can be used alone or in combination with other primers.
All compositions are designed for a long period of protection and are updated as their properties are lost.
Preparing the base and applying primer
Before applying the primer, it is important to properly prepare the base - this will guarantee the long-term preservation of the quality of the finishing coating.
Surface preparation
Before priming, the base is cleaned of dust, residues of lime and chalk whitewash. Unstable areas of plaster and putty are removed. Be sure to remove oil and bitumen stains with solvents.
In case of significant and intense damage by fungus or mold, use Eskaro Biotol E or Biotol Sprey.
Before applying the primer, the top layer of walls, floors, and ceilings must be clean, dry, and durable.
Applying primer
The diluted composition is thoroughly mixed until smooth.
Aquastop is applied with brushes, rollers or AIRLESS sprayers.
Highly absorbent surfaces are coated with a second layer without waiting for the first coating to dry, i.e. "wet on wet."
Most of the range of primers are applied to surfaces whose temperature ranges from 5 to 35 °C. It is important to read the instructions on the label and work within the temperature conditions recommended by the manufacturer.
Dilution
Before starting work, the Aquastop primer is diluted based on the condition of the building material, porosity and type of work.
The manufacturer recommends diluting concentrates in the following proportions:
- for highly absorbent porous substrates, they are guided by a ratio of 1:3;
- before painting surfaces with a normal structure, take a proportion of 1:4 or 1:5;
- Before gluing wallpaper or other roll materials, choose a ratio of 1:5.
After applying the first layer, focusing on the absorption rate and the condition of the surface, apply a second layer or limit it to one.
Tools
Use clean brushes and rollers, without traces of organic substances. Airless sprayers are equipped with nozzles with an opening diameter of 0.017 - 0.021 inches. It is in inches that the size is most often indicated in the marking. If the hole diameter is given in mm, then purchase products 0.43 - 0.48 mm. The compressor must provide a nozzle pressure of at least 110 bar.
Cleaning Tools
For repeated use of tools, after finishing work, they are washed with warm water and soap and dried.
Primer consumption
One liter of diluted composition is enough to prime from 8 to 15 m² in one layer. The exact calculation depends on the material and quality of surface preparation, the ratio of concentrate and water, and the method of application.
How long does aquastop primer take to dry?
The surface is ready for further finishing work after 1 - 2 hours - this is how long the primer dries at a temperature of 20 ° C and an air humidity of 65%.
Drying times may increase when the temperature drops or the humidity in the room increases.
A high degree of protection for buildings, ease of application, and quick readiness of the base for subsequent work set Aquastop primers apart from similar products. The ability to select specialized compounds for treating surfaces with special operating conditions will help make the finish coating attractive and, most importantly, durable.
Installation of waterproofing dowels in technological seams
In concrete and reinforced concrete structures, during the preparation of the base for applying Aquastop waterproofing, all existing technological and expansion joints are jointed, followed by the installation of waterproofing dowels produced by the same manufacturer. In the manufacture of waterproofing dowels, dense rubber is used, the base of which is ethylene propylene rubber. Dowels are recommended for use when waterproofing joints in concrete structures of basements and underground garages, as well as when protecting building foundations from moisture.
