But is it appropriate in cold Russia, where the kitchen should be the warmest and most comfortable place in the house? Our answer is yes, it is appropriate if used in the right shades, combinations and proportions. You can safely realize all your fantasies and not be afraid that they will turn out to be kitsch. Blue pacifies and pacifies even bad taste, and you have to really “try” to spoil it.
Gray blue

The range of blue colors includes more than 100 shades. The human eye perceives the entire palette very clearly. Therefore, it is important to choose the right shade of curtains to create a certain atmosphere.

Usually it is not possible to hang long curtains in a children's room.

Roman curtain models always look advantageous. In large and small kitchens they look balanced and light.
The roller blind option is a combination of practicality and minimalism. Nothing extra. Beautiful and functional. Easy to wash and care for. And they perfectly protect from prying eyes from the street.

There are 3 important functions (1 not obvious) that NOT all types of curtains in the kitchen perform:

- Decorative accent function.
- They hide (as a rule) 3 ugly things: a plastic double-glazed window, a window sill, a heating radiator.
The last one is the most important. It is because of this that interiors with curtains look so much better.
Everyone copes with 1 item from the list. There are no problems with watching TV or working at the computer. it's a kitchen. Bright light doesn't wake us up in the morning. There is no need to get rid of the sun 100%. You will not be visible from the outside with any types of curtains and any fabrics other than tulle.
You can get any light transmittance - it depends on the fabric, not on the type, so don’t get hung up on it.
Remark: the choice of curtains for a kitchen with a balcony door is different - here ordinary long floor-length curtains become a rational choice.
Short curtains for the kitchen
2 models of short curtains with vertical opening:
- Roman blinds are a modern standard for the kitchen. Feature - when closed, the fabric gathers into folds and hangs freely. Length to window sill. You can hang it on the entire window opening, hiding the plastic window. Any fabric in color and light transmittance. In the kitchen you can combine it with other types of curtains (this is a separate point below). Similar in design, but different in appearance when assembled, there are Greek (these are Roman ones with a straight border and straight folds - the best), Austrian (wavy style) and French (draped, i.e. they have folds and waves horizontally and verticals are not used in modern interiors even in classical styles - an outdated option).
- Roller blinds . They have a cylinder at the base, around which fabric is wound when closed. Therefore, unlike Roman ones, the fabric is always smooth. They can be installed on 1 window sash, or on the entire window opening. If the fabric on the side does not hold anything in place, it is called free-hanging. If it moves along the guides and fits tightly to the window - cassette. In design, roller blinds are inferior to Roman ones, and many generally classify them as office options (like blinds) and consider kitchens with them uncomfortable.
General rule when short ones with vertical opening are better:
In a small separate kitchen, curtains that reach the window sill are almost always better than long ones.
This is a tribute to practicality and budget first and foremost. Yes, long ones look cool and more about them later. But often it is impossible to use them at all (U-shaped kitchens with a window in the middle, a corner kitchen with a countertop on a wall with a window, etc.)
One of the ideas that I described in an article about the design of a small kitchen and kitchen renovation in a Khrushchev-era building is to install a countertop instead of a plastic window sill. And use the windowsill. Even if the height is higher or lower than the countertop, that's still extra space.
By design, Roman blinds and vertical opening are a modern idea for small kitchens that is relevant for 2022, which is suitable for all interior styles thanks to the choice of fabrics.
Short curtains for the kitchen with horizontal opening also exist, but it is more difficult to use the window sill with them.
Long
Floor-length curtains also hide the radiator.
From a kitchen design standpoint, this is the coolest option. But it is also the least practical and the most expensive.
They are also called a curtain or curtain, but if you don’t show off, it’s an ordinary curtain.
On a regular small window, short Roman blinds look great. But attempts to use them on non-standard large window openings with a bunch of sashes, bay windows and French windows always look like a failed compromise.
Drapery - folds on the curtain, resulting from the excess of the length of the fabric over the length of the fastening (cornice).
All floor-length models have it. This is important so that it does not look like a sheet stretched to dry.
Regarding the choice of length coefficient for drapery and types of fabric (and how to wash) - consult specialists at the place of purchase - there are too many options, new items are constantly appearing, not everyone has a full range - there is no point in going into details that are constantly changing.
Long models are perfectly combined with short ones, but more about that after choosing the color.
