Everything about how to install a mosquito net and repair it correctly

For plastic windows, special nets are provided that protect the home from the penetration of various insects. If the windows were installed during the cold period, then this moment could be missed. Also, sometimes an already installed mesh can become unusable for various reasons. In such situations, home owners are faced with the question of how to install a mosquito net on a plastic window.

The problem we have to face is that there are no standard products available for sale. Each individual design is made to order in specific sizes. To resolve the issue, you can contact the company that manufactured the windows. Size data may be saved in the archive. You can also call a surveyor, but this will cost a fee.

The main purpose of the design is to protect the room from insects

Types of anti-mosquito structures

Before you start studying information on how to correctly measure a mosquito net for a plastic window, you should decide on the type of design:

  • The roller blind is a mesh that is rolled up. It can be installed using a permanent mount.
  • Frame or frame mesh is the most popular among consumers due to its low cost.
  • The door type is a mesh stretched over a thin aluminum frame. This design is secured using canopies.
  • The roller blind design began to be used quite recently, and not every company will accept such an order. The roller shutter system uses a mesh with protective finishing around the edges for a longer service life.
  • Mesh secured with tape, magnets or Velcro.

This type of fastening is convenient only at first glance. In fact, at the end of the season, the mosquito net can only be peeled off together with the fastenings, and in the spring all the Velcro will need to be reinstalled

  • Mosquito net with increased strength to protect pets. The material can withstand a very heavy load and will not allow the pet to fall out of the window.
  • The sliding structure is installed on terraces or balconies. Parts of the structure can be opened or closed if necessary. For convenient use, guides are installed, with the help of which structural elements are moved or adjusted.
  • Design with increased protection that does not allow dust to pass through. This fabric has very small cells and needs regular cleaning.

Types of protective structures

Net care

Anti-mosquito structures can be installed on a variety of types of fastenings, but still, when using them, you should adhere to very specific recommendations:

  1. The mesh fabric loses its elasticity over time and therefore breaks even under minor mechanical loads. Perforated fabric copes with its functions much worse, so it should be changed periodically (every five to six years).
  2. To extend the service life of the canvas, the nets should be dismantled for the winter period. I usually remove structures in October and put them back in place in March. Thanks to this, neither the profile nor the canvas are subject to freezing, and therefore last an order of magnitude longer.

For the winter, remove and clean the products

  1. After removing the structure, it is worth washing it - during the warm season it collects an incredible amount of dust. If your windows overlook a highway, then I would advise washing the screens more often - once every two to three months.
  2. Finally, keep in mind that this design is not designed for fall protection. Not a single mount can withstand a significant weight load, so if you have children or active pets in your home, then the sash with an installed mosquito stack can only be opened in the folding position.

I never tire of repeating: to protect children from falling, the opening of the window must be blocked. To do this, install either a special handle with a key or a lock on the bottom of the frame. It doesn’t interfere with ventilation, but it will protect you from turning the sash with overly curious hands!

"Anti-cat" is not a panacea, but it can help

  1. The only exceptions are anti-cat nets, which are distinguished by reinforced fabric and more reliable fasteners. But even they cannot support the weight of a well-fed Maine Coon or a small child, so it’s better to play it safe without getting into trouble!

Methods of attaching mosquito structures to a plastic window

The design of the protective mesh consists of a fiberglass mesh with 1 mm cells and an aluminum frame. Attaching mosquito nets to plastic windows varies, and the choice depends on the manufacturer.

The plunger fastening can be considered the highest quality and most durable. To fix the frame, spring-loaded pins with a carved cap are used, which perfectly hold the structure.

Attaching the mesh to the window

The second place in demand is occupied by the Z-shaped fastening of the mosquito net. The protective mesh is attached to the window using metal brackets. Despite the apparent reliability of the fastening, over time the structure may become loose and cracks will begin to form.

Much less commonly, a method called “Pocket” is used to secure the structure. When using this method, gaps remain between the mesh and the frame, so it is not so popular. Measurements for such structures must be taken with reserve.

Requirements for mosquito nets

The main task of such nets is to create a barrier to the path of insects from the street to the apartment. Based on this, window and door openings of housing for protection against mosquitoes were previously equipped with any mesh material that was suitable at first glance - gauze, tulle, gauze fabric, fine-mesh steel construction mesh, etc. However, it soon became clear that due to certain factors these materials lose their functionality and require repair or replacement.

Some functions of mosquito net devices

To choose the right fabric for mosquito protection, we list the necessary characteristics that it must have:

  • the optimal combination of mesh size and the thickness of the base material - creating a barrier in the path of insects while allowing the unhindered passage of air and maintaining sufficient transparency for viewing;
  • strength - the ability to withstand random mechanical impacts and wind;
  • moisture and heat resistance, ultraviolet resistance - the material preserves the strength characteristics and geometry of the canvas under the influence of atmospheric moisture, summer air temperature and sunlight;
  • antistatic properties - to prevent clogging of cell openings with dust attracted by static electricity;
  • ease of daily care to maintain the necessary sanitary and hygienic condition;
  • safety – absence of harmful emissions into the air.

Based on the above requirements, not all mesh materials are suitable for durable and effective equipping of window and door openings with protection against insects: gauze quickly becomes dirty, stretches and impairs visibility, uncoated steel wire mesh rusts, and fine-mesh nylon mesh accumulates static electricity and becomes clogged. dust. These materials can only be used for a temporary solution to the problem, and for high-quality furnishing of housing with mosquito protection, special fine-mesh mesh canvases are used.

Measurements for structures using Z-fasteners

Using a regular tape measure, measure the height and width of the opening along the edge of the elastic band. The data obtained should be recorded to the nearest millimeter. The finished product will exceed the dimensions of the frame by 2 cm horizontally and vertically.

This is what Z-mounts look like

Before deciding how to measure a window for a Z-mount mosquito net, it is worth checking how deep the window frame is installed. If the slopes are very close to the frame, or the box is strongly set under a quarter, then installation of the finished structure may be difficult. Such points should be taken into account during measurements and planning, and if necessary, order a structure with a different type of fastening.

Types of fastenings, how to fasten

There are eight types of mosquito protection fastenings.

On hinges

Most often, products are attached to special lashes. The fastening process is carried out in several stages:

  • installation of mesh fastenings on the window frame;
  • marking the places where the second loop elements will be attached;
  • installation of a mosquito net;
  • attaching the fastener.

Among the advantages of hinge fastening is the ease of installation and dismantling of the mesh.

With ears

They are screwed to the window frame with small screws. Such pockets should be attached to the corners of the frame. The installed ears are the main fastening into which the mosquito net is installed.

On plunger pins

The plunger fastening is considered the most reliable and therefore is used more often than other methods. To install the plunger pins, you will need to drill holes in the window frame with a drill. This must be done carefully so as not to damage anything. The pins are then screwed into the frame of the mosquito control structure and into the window.

On Z-shaped fasteners

Flag-type fasteners are used if the net frame is made of durable aluminum. It is contraindicated to fasten plastic products with such self-tapping screws, since the plastic quickly collapses under the pressure of such fastenings. Fastening using flag products is carried out in several stages:

  • marking places for installation of fasteners;
  • drilling holes;
  • installation of the structure.

On tape

To briefly attach the mesh roll to the window frame, use double-sided tape.

First, the frame is washed from dirt, dried and degreased. After this, it is covered with double-sided tape, to which an insect net is attached. Double-sided tape loses its properties within a few months and therefore it must be periodically replaced with a new one.

Roll system

Many people consider roll systems to be the most convenient to use. They are equipped with special guides with which you can lower and raise the roll. Installation of such a system is carried out as follows:

  • installing a block with a mesh in the upper part of the window frame;
  • securing the guides on the sides;
  • installing a latch at the bottom of the window.

Frame with horizontal guides

Some people use horizontal guides rather than vertical ones. In this case, the mesh will not open from top to bottom, but from left to right. It is installed in the same way as the roll system. The only difference is that the guides are installed at the top or bottom of the window frame.

Pleated

The pleated system is assembled into an accordion in the vertical direction. In this case, the guides are installed at the top and bottom of the window. The mesh is fixed with special fasteners, with the help of which the mesh is held in the closed position.

Measurements for structures with plunger fastenings

The use of pins is available for frames that do not have rounded shapes. It is also worth considering that the pin is attached to the frame itself, and in the presence of a strong bevel it is almost impossible to achieve a high level of density. All this must be taken into account before starting to solve the problem of how to measure a mosquito net for a plastic window.

In order to determine the dimensions, you should find out the height and width of the frame, and then subtract 6 mm from the data obtained. A sealing brush of this size is installed along the edge of the mesh frame.

Plunger fastenings are the most reliable

Care and types of mosquitoes on plastic frames

Every owner wants the window screens to last as long as possible. To do this, you need to follow simple rules for caring for them.

During the cold season, experts recommend removing screens from window frames. Mosquitoes must be washed with soapy water. This should be done as they become dirty, but at least once a year. But the fastenings do not require special care.

Before purchasing a mosquito net, you need to carefully take measurements and decide on the size of the product. To do this, open the window and measure the light opening. After that, add another 20 millimeters to each parameter. The result is the desired size of the insect net.

Next, consider which type of mosquito is best to choose. Today, manufacturers offer the following varieties:

  • For doors. One of the new developments. They perform the function of not only protecting against insects, but also regulating the flow of air flow. In addition, a mosquito net for doors is guaranteed to protect the house from drafts. Such products are attached to special hinges. The mesh is fixed with a magnet.
  • Anti-cat. This type of mesh is a must for pet owners. This model was developed especially for such consumers. Due to the fact that the pet will not be able to damage or spoil the product. In addition, this type of mosquito net is equipped with additional fastenings, which increases its safety. This mesh does not need to be removed in winter, since the increased strength of the mesh makes it able to withstand the most severe frosts.
  • Anti-dust. Today, dust allergies have reached epidemic proportions. The disease is common among people of all ages and segments of the population. The Anti-Dust mosquito net will help protect yourself and your loved ones from unpleasant symptoms. The product is created on the basis of very dense fabric, which is capable of trapping the smallest dust particles. However, this leads to rapid contamination. But mosquitoes are very easy to clean. All you need to do is wash the surface of the mesh with soapy water and then wipe with a dry cloth.

The mesh does not affect the penetration of sunlight into the room, and does not deteriorate the appearance of the window. The mesh has one drawback - it is expensive.

  • Rolled - for many, this is considered the most optimal solution. The advantage of mesh is its versatility; they are used to cover windows and doors, terraces and balconies. When assembled, they look like a roll in a box. An additional advantage is the easy care of the products. The installation process is also as simple as possible. But the main disadvantage of this model is the high price.
  • Sliding – can be used to protect windows, as well as balconies and terraces. This type of mesh opens and closes using two sliding parts. Closed mosquitoes do not affect visibility from the window, thanks to their gray color. To install the sliding mesh, you will need to install special guides.

There are different types of fastenings for mosquito nets:

  • Anti-dust;
  • Frame removable;
  • Anti-cat;
  • Frame sliding;
  • Mounting on magnetic tape or adhesive tape;
  • Plisse;
  • Rolled.

When talking about mosquito nets, we must not forget about the types of their fastening. There are 4 types of them:

  • On hinges;
  • With ears;
  • On pounger pins;
  • On z-shaped fasteners.

The most popular (which is quite justified) is the last mounting option.

Z-shaped fasteners are reliable and convenient. Another “plus” is that there is no need to make additional holes in the window frame. The use of this fastening is permissible for wooden and plastic windows. The disadvantage of the fastener is that the mosquito net does not fit tightly to the frame. Gaps allow a small amount of insects and dust to enter the room.

To install the pins, you will have to make holes in the window frame. Thus, the fastenings are very reliable. With this fastening, the mosquito fly fits tightly to the frame, and stainless steel elements guarantee many years of service of the fastenings. If necessary, the mesh can be quickly removed and dismantled.

For doors, the best option would be to mount them on hinges. For this, due to the increased load, a reinforced type of profile is used.

There is no clear answer about what type of fastening to choose. You need to consider the location where the installation will take place. For a plastic window, you will need eight screws and four fasteners. Take measurements first. After which, non-angular fasteners are mounted equidistant from each other. Corner parts are installed in the corners.

Dismantling the mosquito net is also very simple. To remove it, grab the plastic holders and gently but forcefully pull up. So, the mesh comes out of the lower holders. After which, it is folded back and the top ones are removed. After that, all you need to do is hide the mosquito net in the pantry until next summer.

Obviously, removing the mosquito net is not difficult. The process is very simple, even when the procedure must be carried out with a plastic window. To remove the mesh, there is no need to ask for help from professionals. Even a person with no experience can cope with removing a mosquito net.

Plunger fastenings are the most reliable

To solve the question of how to measure a window for a mosquito net with a pocket mount, you should know that for such structures, measurements are taken in exactly the same way as for Z-mounts. Since such fastening does not provide a tight fit and reliable protection, most consumers prefer to use other types of structures.

Regardless of the type of fastening, dimensions must be determined with millimeter accuracy.

Mosquitoes for plastic windows: durable and reliable

In the modern world it is impossible to imagine a window without a mosquito net. Thanks to it, people are freed from annoying insects and poplar fluff that fills the room. A simple and inconspicuous design, combined with functionality, made mosquito nets an indispensable accessory in the interior.

The simple design and convenient form of fastening allowed mosquitoes to become the most popular addition to the new plastic window.

In summer, you want there to be as much fresh air in the house as possible. But open window openings cannot provide adequate air circulation. Previously, there was no way out of this situation. There was no way to purchase a security accessory for balcony doors. We had to make do with improvised means, such as gauze. Manufacturers paid attention to the needs of consumers and developed special screens for balcony doors. They have a swing mechanism and fit into any type of doorway without any problems.

Pet owners are familiar with the situation when the first rays of the sun lure cats onto the balconies. There they hunt birds flying by all day long, and after that they like to “scratch” their claws on the mosquito net. And no matter how hard you try, it is impossible to explain to the animal that this cannot be done. The pet will try to squeeze out the net.

You can often notice birds circling near the window, trying to pull out a stuck mosquito or midge. This phenomenon can be observed especially often by residents of the upper floors.

Taking into account the wishes of customers, manufacturers have developed a special model of the Anti-Cat mesh, with a reinforced PVC coating. The substance used in the production of this design does not harm human health. And it is not inferior to conventional meshes in terms of air and light transmission capacity. At the same time, Anti-Koshka protects against mosquitoes, midges and flies, as well as solutions of salts, alkalis and basic acids, industrial gases and moisture.

The special processing technology of the mosquito net makes it very durable. It is almost impossible to damage, tear or scratch the product. Now you don't have to worry about your pet falling out of the window. And birds who want to feast on midges caught in the net will not violate its integrity.

Not a single folk remedy, such as the smell of anise, cloves or eucalyptus, guarantees one hundred percent protection against mosquitoes. Only mosquitoes can help you forget about the night buzzing forever.

Stages of installing a mosquito net

The sequence of work is as follows:

  • Marking for fastening elements. If the window has standard dimensions, then two fasteners from below and two from above are sufficient. For very large windows, 8 fasteners are used.
  • Holes are scrolled in the frame. A drill is used for this.
  • The fastening elements are applied to the frame and screwed with screws.
  • After this, you need to decide on the mounting point of the holders. To do this, you need to measure the height and make a mark exactly in the middle.
  • The holders are screwed into the plastic structure using screws. If plastic holders are used, they should be handled very carefully as they are very fragile.

Cells that are too small will become a barrier to sunlight

Roller blinds

Installing rolled mesh is more difficult than installing frame mesh. But this type is quite popular, since you can open the window completely without removing the accessory, and if necessary, use it again. In addition, there is no need for storage space for removed nets, which is especially valuable in a small apartment.

The roller shutter kit includes top guides, a bottom corner and a mesh mechanism. The entire structure is assembled, installed and screwed with self-tapping screws from the street side. Plugs are placed on the caps, which make the attachment points invisible.

This design is installed outside and secured above the frame or to the side of it. When unwinding, the mesh fabric moves along the side guides. They protect the blade from kinking or moving too quickly, which often leads to damage. In order to avoid excessive unwinding, the design is equipped with a special spring. When the canvas has unfolded completely, it is fixed with a special latch. To put the canvas into the box, just press a button.

The design is equipped with brush seals that clean the mesh fabric. But if the mesh is heavily soiled, or needs to be cleaned due to the end of the summer season, it is simply removed and washed, or wiped with a wet cloth. You can also use a regular vacuum cleaner for cleaning.

Roller shutter design is very convenient to use

Features of installation and operation of mesh on plungers

The mosquito net on the rods or plungers fits very tightly to the glass unit, which provides a high level of protection against insects entering the room. Rods are metal rods on a spring mechanism, which are secured with pins on the outside of the frame.

When installing or removing the structure, tighten the threads in the spring pins. If it becomes necessary to remove the structure, the pin must be rotated clockwise.

Installation of such a structure is impossible if there are bars on the windows.

Plungers are pins with springs

The advantages of such a fastening system include quick and easy installation, a high level of tightness and excellent protection from dust, resistance to low temperatures and ultraviolet radiation. It is also worth considering that this structure is almost impossible to remove from the outside. Thanks to this, such structures are installed on the first floors.

If the brush along the edges of the mesh begins to separate, then just go along the edge with waterproof glue. To clean the canvas, just wash it with a regular sponge using a soap solution.

Types of mesh for mosquito repellent devices

Mosquito repellent mesh has certain characteristics.

The first of these is the cell size, which is in the range of 0.5 - 1.2 mm. As the cell lumen decreases, the protective ability of the mesh increases - less dust will penetrate into the room. But it should be borne in mind that fabric with cells of minimal sizes needs to be washed more often - as it becomes dirty, its permeability to air and light quickly deteriorates. A canvas with a maximum mesh size is almost no barrier to dust. Therefore, the best option when choosing the degree of protection would be a mesh with a medium-sized cell - from 0.8 to 1 mm.

The second most important characteristic of a mesh fabric, which is also tied to the cell size, is the material from which the canvas is made:

  • cotton - with high resistance to ultraviolet radiation and retention capacity (lint on threads), cotton netting for protection against mosquitoes from the outside is rarely used, since the lack of resistance to moisture and mold causes its fragility;
  • polyester (nylon) - in the absence of any outstanding individual characteristics, canvas made of thread up to 0.8 mm thick, supporting a weight of up to 4 kg, is quite strong, durable, cheap and therefore most common for external protection against mosquitoes;

Fine mesh mosquito repellent fabrics: on the left – made of cotton, on the right – made of polyester.

  • nylon – a polymer for the production of anti-allergenic mesh of complex fine-mesh “anti-dust” weaving, which traps even flower pollen;
  • steel thread - fabric woven from steel wire is widely used due to its high strength, but the price of material with a protective zinc coating or stainless steel is quite high;

Mesh material: on the left – “anti-dust”, on the right – “anti-cat” made of stainless steel

  • fiberglass (fiberglass coated with PVC) is the best choice due to the high transparency and strength of the fabric, which does not support combustion and is resistant to all atmospheric factors.

A significant factor when choosing a mesh is also its color, which affects light transmission, transparency and compliance with the interior. A gray canvas is the most transparent for viewing, but if the window is not panoramic, this factor can be sacrificed in favor of the aesthetics of the canvas and choose a mesh of a different color.

Colored mesh fabrics for mosquito protection

If there are pets in the house, the strength of the cellular canvas, which must withstand the impact of claws, teeth or the weight of pets, is of particular importance. Meshes that can withstand these factors are combined into the “anti-cat” group and are produced from polyester, fiberglass and metal (woven steel and expanded aluminum).

Types of metal mesh of the "anti-cat" class: 1 - woven steel, 2, 3 - aluminum perforated.

The strength of cellular canvases of this class allows them to be used for mosquito control devices installed both on large-format windows and on doorways.

Among the products offered on the modern market, mosquito repellent sheets from foreign manufacturers such as the German Roto (Roto Frank AG), the Danish Velux Group, the Polish Fakro Group and the American Pfeiffer have proven themselves well. Phifer & Company).

Installation of the structure on the window

Before you start to deal with the problem of how to install a mosquito net on a window, you should decide on the type of fasteners:

  • The lower fasteners are installed at least 15 mm below the window opening, and the upper ones must be fixed above the frame, taking into account the height of the mesh and adding 10 mm. The mesh frame should not extend beyond the window opening. In order to facilitate installation, you should first glue the fasteners to the frame with double-sided tape. This will give you the opportunity to try on the mesh and see the final result. And only then do you need to make holes for fastenings using self-tapping screws or hardware with a drill.

A mosquito net is also installed on the door

  • It is recommended to lubricate the place where the window profile and the fastening are connected with silicone sealant.
  • In order to avoid mistakes when marking the upper fastenings, the lower fastenings are glued, a mesh is inserted, and the upper border is marked with a regular pencil. If all measurements are taken correctly, then the border should be in the middle of the supporting part of the upper bracket.
  • To install, the mesh is inserted into the upper fastenings until it stops, and then lowered onto the lower ones. If the structure is wobbly or does not look very reliable, then the situation can be solved by adjusting the height of the fastenings from above.

Before starting work, it is worth making accurate measurements

Installing mosquito protection in a window opening on hinges

This method of installing a mesh sash is acceptable for 1st floor windows because it requires the presence of a worker outside the building. Hinging it on hinges is advisable when opening the window frame into the room. Installation proceeds as follows:

  • The two upper halves of the hinges with receiving sockets facing downwards are attached to the side of the frame with self-tapping screws;
  • insert the lower parts of the loops. To prevent them from falling out of their nests during marking, they are secured with tape or plasticine;
  • Having attached the mesh to the window block, mark the lower points of attachment of the hinges with a marker or pencil;
  • furniture magnets are screwed to the opposite side of the protective sheet, and the attachment points for the strikers are marked;
  • the mosquito net is set aside, and the supporting hinge halves and metal plates for the magnets are fastened with self-tapping screws;
  • plastic latches and handles are installed in the same way.

MC on loops

Advice . To make it easier to close the open mosquito flap, a cord is tied to the handle. By tightening the cable, they close the mesh without leaning out of the window.

Repair or replacement of mosquito net

Despite the fact that plastic is highly durable, the structure may fail under the influence of time, temperature changes and sunlight. The canvas can also be damaged by pets. In such cases, each owner should know how to change the mosquito net on a plastic window on their own.

Replacing corners

Very often the cause of the malfunction is broken plastic corners. Such items are sold in specialized stores. If necessary, you can purchase one or a whole set of corners. Also on sale are regular and solid or reinforced corners. At a relatively low cost, reinforced options are more reliable and last much longer.

If only one corner breaks, it is not necessary to disassemble the structure completely; it is enough to limit yourself to the top bar

First of all, pry up the sealing cord, carefully pull it and pull it out of the groove. Then you should pull the bar up.

Use pliers or a screwdriver to remove the broken elements.

New corners must be attached to the plank, and all parts of the structure must be connected to each other.

The canvas is straightened along the edges, stretched a little, and the seal is placed in the groove. In order to press it tightly, you should use a screwdriver or scissors.

In order to avoid damage during repairs, when using a hammer, you should use a wooden beam and hit through it, or use a special rubber hammer.

Mosquito nets do not always have standard sizes and shapes

Fixing frame protection to corner stops

A peculiarity of fastening mosquito frames in corner stops (pockets) is that the lower transverse bar fits tightly into the lower corners, while the upper corners of the frame are held only in the horizontal direction.

The installation principle is similar to installing the mesh on Z-brackets. The only difference is that the corners do not allow the frame to move sideways, which helps to secure the mesh more firmly.

Attaching the mesh to the corners

Carefully . Despite the manufacturers' assurances that the corners are made of ultraviolet-resistant plastic, after two to three years the plastic limiters may collapse. In this case, the owners risk losing their mosquito nets.

Video description

The replacement of corners is clearly shown in the video:

Replacing the canvas

If the integrity of the canvas is damaged, you can make a small patch or seal the torn area. This will give the structure an unattractive appearance and can be used as a temporary measure. In such situations, it is worth completely replacing the damaged canvas with a new one. To know how to measure a mosquito net and determine its size, you should add 30-40 mm to the length and width of the frame. After installing the canvas, the excess is cut off.

There is no point in repairing a damaged mesh; it should be replaced completely

Rolled (roller) design of a mosquito protection device

Mosquito roller blinds are complex mechanical devices that use cellular fabric instead of curtain fabric. They are purchased ready-made, designed for a height of up to 2.5 m and a window width of up to 2 m. We wrote about the types of mosquito nets here.

Mosquito roller shutter

Roller shutters are installed on the outside of window blocks, provided that the windows swing inside the room. These are some of the most expensive anti-mosquito devices. Their advantage is quick installation, beautiful appearance and ease of handling. They are usually painted white or steel.

How to assemble a structure from component parts

You can purchase and install a ready-made structure, but self-assembly will be much cheaper. Before deciding how to assemble a mosquito net, you should purchase components. For the design you will need a frame profile, corners for connection, a central cross member and two connectors, a rubber sealing cord, 2 handles and a mesh fabric.

Do-it-yourself construction will cost less

How to make mosquito protection yourself

If you want to save on the work of craftsmen, you can assemble the mosquito repellent element with your own hands. You will have to buy parts for assembly.

What you will need:

  • MFP2 profile. The frame is assembled from it.
  • MFPI mullion profile plus two fasteners. Will be needed if the protection height is more than 1 m.
  • Mesh fabric.
  • Sealing cord.
  • Corners, metal or plastic.
  • Pens.
  • Hidden screws.

Assembling the frame

It consists of four profile fragments and four corners. Sections of the required size are cut, taking into account that they will be attached to the corners. For this, 20 mm are removed from the width and length.

The parts are sawed off, the edges are cleaned until smooth. The elements are laid out on a flat basis, with the grooves facing up. Fold them into a rectangle. Holders are placed in the corners. Their grooves are also directed upwards.

Connecting the elements is not easy. They fit tight, but that's normal. You won't be able to insert it manually. They are carefully knocked down with a hammer. To avoid damaging the plastic, a lining is used. This could be a block of wood, a piece of chipboard, etc. The assembly accuracy must be controlled. Angles are only 90°. The slightest distortion will create cracks that will become gateways for insects. If necessary, an impost is attached to the holders.

Stretch the mesh fabric

First it is cut out. The workpiece is made 4-5 cm larger than the frame. Otherwise, it will not be possible to pull it tight. The frame is laid on a flat surface, and a cloth is placed on top. It is pressed into the groove with a seal, thus securing it to the part. Start from any corner or from the middle of the narrow side. They move alternately in one direction or the other.

It is quite difficult to insert the sealing tape into the groove. In workshops, a special roller is used for this. At home, you can make your task easier if you take any rounded object. These could be scissor rings, a screwdriver or a knife handle. Before inserting the canvas into the groove, straighten it and pull it slightly.

In the process, thin plastic handles are put in place. Such models are tucked under the cord along with a mesh base. More reliable ones are placed on the frame and secured with self-tapping screws. You can see an alternative option for arranging protection against insects in the video.

Stages of manufacturing a structure

The work takes place in the following sequence:

  1. Using a saw or hacksaw, a metal profile is cut. Its dimensions should be less than the dimensions of the window by 10 mm horizontally and vertically. The central crossbar is cut exactly to fit the width of the window.
  2. The profile must be inserted into the corners. You can use a hammer for this. At the end of this stage you should have a rectangular frame.
  3. Cut the mesh fabric 30-40 mm larger than the required dimensions.
  4. The mesh must be placed on the frame and, using a special roller, tucked into the profile along with the sealing cord. The mesh must be stretched evenly, and care must be taken not to form waves or folds. Handles are also installed using a cord at this stage.
  5. All excess and protruding parts of the canvas are carefully trimmed with a sharp knife.

The mosquito net is ready for installation.

The fabric must be stretched well and ensure that there are no waves or folds.

Movable mesh doors on guide rails

Movable panels with anti-mosquito fabric are installed to protect openings with sliding glazed frames. Modern plastic sliding systems are equipped with factory-made MS. The protective screens have rollers in the upper and lower transverse bars of the mesh.

Movement of the MS along an additional guide rail

Step-by-step instructions for installing a movable mosquito net

If the sliding window system has been installed for a long time, you can make a movable frame with a mosquito net yourself. You need to do it like this:

  1. Sections of the cable channel without covers are glued to the window sill and ceiling close to the guides of the sliding system. To do this, it is better to use Liquid Nails glue.
  2. You can make a mosquito net yourself or order it according to the measurements of the window opening. The frame can be made of wooden slats with a width equal to the groove of the cable channel;
  3. An adhesive tape is glued or stapled onto the vertical elements (it is used in wardrobes and is commercially available). The brush seal is needed in order to eliminate the slightest gaps on the sides of the mesh;
  4. For ease of handling, handles are screwed onto the vertical bars of the mesh;
  5. Carefully bending the sides of the guides at the top and bottom, insert the mesh into the channels. The protection is installed and ready for use.
  6. In order not to deform the plastic box each time, you can install spring-loaded rollers, which are mounted in the doors of sliding wardrobes.

What is the peculiarity of the Anti-Cat mesh fabric?

This type of netting is installed not only by cat owners. Very often, neighbors' pets can sneak into the house and cause damage to the premises. To protect the window opening on both sides, use a high-strength mesh fabric. To make such structures, a polyester fabric is used, which is glued along the entire perimeter and secured with metal brackets. Even if a pet tries to damage the mesh with its claws or beak, or climbs on it, the material will not sag or deform.

If a pet lives in the house, then for safety reasons window openings should be carefully strengthened

The key to success is clearly maintained dimensions

Our other articles have already discussed what kinds of mosquito nets there are, how to correctly measure their size for installation, and how to change this size if necessary.

The main thing when receiving the ordered product or after reducing its size is not to panic if it still turns out to be large or small for the window opening. If it is large, the problem can be easily solved; the mesh is mounted on the outside of the opening. Of course, for this, the difference in the size of the opening and the outer perimeter of the mesh must be at least 2...4 cm on each side, otherwise there will simply be gaps and it will not be possible to carry out the installation properly. If the size is insufficient, there are two options: either increase the sides of the frame, or lay a seal along the contour. The choice of one path or another depends on the size of the gap and the capabilities of the master.

What are the important points to consider when ordering mesh?

A mosquito net is ordered only in cases where the windows in the apartment open inward.

The main purpose of a mosquito net is to prevent insects or poplar fluff from entering the room. To ensure a tight fit, measurements should be taken to the nearest millimeter. A slight overlap on the outside is allowed.

In order to obtain a high-quality design, precise dimensions should be made.

Features of fastening with metal hooks

Fastenings of this type are used quite rarely. They are installed only if installation of standard brackets is impossible. Metal hooks are simply screwed to the frame of the mosquito net with one side, and fixed to the seal with the other. This type of fastening has one very big drawback: they wear out the window seal very quickly
