Glass tinted in bulk. Description of capabilities and scope of application

The production of mirror-tinted glass is carried out using the method of applying metal coatings in special vacuum chambers. The metal coatings are made on a titanium basis, making the glass look grey-blue when viewed through light with a mirror reflection on both sides.

Titanium is considered a metal that has increased resistance to external influences. Over time, it does not change its properties, which allows the use of such mirror glass without any restrictions.

For the production of mirror glass, only the highest quality raw materials are used. The role of such raw material is sheet glass of grade M1. There are several brands of mirror tinted glass, which differ depending on the degree of transparency.

Tinted glass Spy, light transmittance from 5 to 7%

This glass is characterized by a steely metallic color. It gives a very strong specular reflection and looks like a mirror. Such tinted glass has a “see it or not see it” effect, thanks to which it can be used for security premises, as well as other places where there is a need to ensure discreet surveillance and hide from prying eyes.

In addition, this glass can be used for standard purposes - in the production of shop windows and building facades, for the production of double-glazed windows, in the production of furniture glass and glass for commercial equipment.

The use of SPYON glass in facade glazing is limited and only in a tempered state.

Tinted glass in bulk: comfort and beauty

October 28, 2013

We exist in a continuous information flow that does not stop for a minute, being replenished with more and more streams from different spheres of life. It is simply physically impossible to be aware of everything that has already been invented by humanity, so we float in the flow of this boundless river, from time to time trying to extract from it information that interests us at the moment. This can be illustrated using the example of tinted glass.

Many have heard about them, some have already successfully used them, but most have a very general idea of tinted glass, which sometimes leads to confusion. To clarify this issue, we want to talk about the type of tinted glass that our company offers to its customers - that is, glass tinted in bulk.

Glass tinted in the mass is glass, the coloring of which is done by adding special coloring pigments (metal oxides) to the molten glass mass. Both the main color and the shades of the future glass depend on the dosage of the coloring component.

Glass tinted in the mass belongs to the category of colored glass. Colored glass can be produced using several currently existing technologies (in bulk, pyrolysis, the use of special tinting films, applying tinting coatings to glass in vacuum chambers). What they have in common is that, unlike colorless glass, all of them, regardless of color and manufacturing technology, have a reduced light transmittance coefficient (this coefficient may vary depending on the manufacturing technology and glass thickness). But it is precisely the method we are talking about, that is, mass tinting, that gives glass improved functional properties compared to glass made using other technologies (for example, using a film or a special coating applied in a vacuum).

Glass made using mass tinting technology has the following properties:

  • Resistance to mechanical stress during processing;
  • Indifference to weather changes;
  • Hardening ability;
  • Uniform coloring of the entire glass surface;

In addition, this glass has:

  • 100% environmentally safe - the pigment that gives color to glass, when mixed with glass melt at high temperatures, does not pose any threat to human health;
  • Energy and light properties obtained due to metal oxides.

Of course, glass with such a set of qualities cannot be unclaimed these days. Indeed, our customers are showing increasing interest in this type of product, ordering the installation of double-glazed windows with tinted glass, both for homes, apartments, cottages, and for office premises, restaurants, cafes and so on. Having analyzed the reasons for our customers’ interest in tinted glass, we have identified at least three main problems that can be solved with their help:

  1. Creating a more comfortable atmosphere in a room whose windows face the sunny side - after all, even a small tint softens the brightness of the sun's rays hitting the window, and, therefore, reduces eye strain, helping to improve the well-being of everyone living or working in this room.
  2. Solving issues related to design - the ability to install double-glazed windows with tinted glass, colored in bulk, allows you to give originality to both the entire building (from the facade) and each room separately.
  3. Decorating the space indoors - such glass will help solve the problem of matching the entire interior with the general design idea. Tinted glass can be used to decorate, for example, doors, and if necessary, the transparency of the glass can be reduced by combining tinted and frosted glass (as in a double-glazed window: the inner glass is frosted, and the outer, tinted glass is of the color that corresponds to the general design idea ).

Attaching paramount importance to the quality of double-glazed windows, we use only the highest quality components for their production. This principle also applies to tinted windows. We are ready to offer our customers a whole line of (painted) glasses. The color is usually chosen based on the customer’s preferences or the need to solve a specific problem, for example:

  • If there is a need to veil the space located on the other side of the window, then you should opt for the Matelux Clear model. This glass will cope with the task in the best possible way, giving the view outside the window some blurriness.
  • If you want to slightly reduce the amount of sunlight in the room, you should look at the Stopsol Classic Clear option.
  • If the need to protect glass from mechanical damage comes to the fore, then the best option would be Sun-Guard Royal Blue, glass that also has slightly enhanced sun protection properties.
  • All the proposed color solutions for our glass allow you to choose exactly the option that will help enhance the integrity of the perception of the entire interior, giving it originality and gloss.

There is no point in our short article listing all the types of tinted glass that we offer our customers today - you can see their full line on our website, but you can order the option you like right now by clicking on the word - order. Rest assured - with new tinted windows, your home will become even more comfortable and beautiful!

Scope of application

Tinted glass can be used both for building facades and for interior decoration: glass partitions, interior doors, countertops for kitchen and coffee tables, shelves and much more are made from it. You can buy tinted glass for furniture inexpensively at.

Dark glass can also be used for glass stairs and floors. It can be hardened, making it stronger and safer: when broken, the canvas does not crumble into sharp fragments that could injure others.

In addition, such glass can be sandblasted, creating any images and patterns on it. This processing method is popular among those who choose interior doors. Tinted glass becomes matte and opaque in areas of processing, so it is also suitable as doors for bathrooms or toilets. It looks very beautiful and makes the interior unique.

Also, this glass will look great in a shower corner or shower stall.

Tinted glass not only looks beautiful and unusual, but also protects objects from sunlight. The advantages include the following:

  • Decorative functions appreciated by modern designers and architects.
  • UV resistance - the shade does not fade from light and does not fade.
  • Abrasion resistance.
  • Light absorption - glass is comfortable for the eyes when installed as windows or room partitions.

Where is the material used?

The products are widely used in commercial and office buildings. In residential buildings, products are installed less frequently. Firstly, this is due to the fact that the product belongs to a higher price segment than popular models. Secondly, due to the fact that few people know about this invention.

Tinted glass in bulk is used mainly for interior and exterior decoration of premises. They are installed in partitions and doors, as well as in Rehau window frames. Skillful use of such decor can:

  • transform the room;
  • create a truly unique environment;
  • hide certain areas of the room.

The material is also used to reduce eye fatigue. For example, the “Stopsol Classic Clear” model reduces the effect of ultraviolet sunlight on the organs of vision. This is an excellent preventive measure that helps minimize eye strain.

"Matelux Clear" helps to hide a certain area of the room from prying eyes. There is an artificial blur on the surface that makes it impossible to see what is in the “hidden” area.

If you need to create a base to protect your window from various types of mechanical damage, pay attention to Sun-Guard Royal Blue products. The model also has excellent sun protection properties, so it can also be used to prevent strong exposure to sunlight.

Production

Tinting is created by coloring glass in a mass. Due to environmentally friendly high-quality dyes, the fabric is uniformly colored, clean and does not contain harmful impurities. It is worth noting that during production no hazardous substances are emitted into the atmosphere and the entire process meets all modern requirements.

Thanks to this method of tinting, the glass is resistant to mechanical stress. The intensity of color saturation and the level of transparency are adjusted using the amount of dye and the thickness of the fabric.

The light transmission of tinted glass ranges from 20 to 70%, that is, everything is clearly visible through it, but at the same time it makes natural colors darker and softer. The images show examples of glass light transmission:

Bronze (50% light transmission level):

Gray glass (47% light transmittance):

Dark gray glass (38% light transmittance):

What is the difference from others

The product made in this way belongs to the “colored” category. To produce such glass, several methods are currently used (in addition to what we described):

  • pyrolysis;
  • film for tinting;
  • tinting coatings (applied in vacuum chambers).

All these technologies have their advantages and disadvantages. But the result is the same - glass has a low light transmittance. This indicator depends on the thickness of the product and the method used.

Other characteristics of the glass base itself also depend on the chosen technology. And it is the “mass” method that is considered one of the most effective and high-quality.
