To ensure that the material does not pose a threat to the life and health of others, and its service life is longer, reinforcement technology is used. During a fire, a great danger is interior glass, which, when destroyed, shatters into sharp fragments. Reinforced glass, in this case, is the safest, since its sheet is supported by a metal frame.

Wired glass manufacturing process

The reinforcement process itself involves the distribution of a metal mesh inside the glass thickness. All mesh cells are small in size, and the glass mass that falls there after cooling also has a small structural size. In case of destruction of the canvas, the fragments are small and round, which eliminates injury.

Glass casting must be carried out using precise technology, otherwise the final product may be defective. The installation of the mesh occurs parallel to the process of rolling the molten sheet of glass. Thus, reinforcement occurs during the production of the glass base itself. Unlike simple sheet glass, reinforced glass takes much longer to manufacture, so its cost is higher. The mesh itself, according to GOST, should be made of low-carbon steel, and the transparency of the glass should not be less than 65%. This is the only way she can withstand the load placed on her. During casting, technologists carefully ensure that the metal does not react, which could result in oxidation and corrosion. Such a product is a defect, because the oxide not only weakens the quality of the metal, but also adds a rusty color to the glass.

During casting, the mesh should be immersed in the mass no deeper than one and a half centimeters from the surface. This is important, because a mesh “recessed” deeper will not hold the glass during destruction.

Triplex

As mentioned above, triplex is laminated glass with a polymer insert inside.

Differs in production technologies:

1) Pouring technology - the polymer is poured between layers of glass, then left to harden under an ultraviolet lamp.

2) Film - a polymer film is placed between two glasses, then this structure is glued together. Triplex made using this technology is more widespread.

The layering of triplex is a matter of the purpose of its use. A large number of layers gives triplex increased flexibility and soundproofing properties.

Types of reinforcement:

The design features of reinforced glass classify it by type of manufacture. In particular, color is a fundamental difference between the species listed below.

By color scheme

  • Transparent . This is a classic version of reinforced glass. Used in places where its mandatory presence is prescribed in fire safety rules (hospitals, schools, canteens, factories, workshops, etc.)
  • Colored . During dyeing, three common shades are distinguished: yellow, blue and green. To make the color palette of the ball more diverse, metals are added during casting, which acquire shades due to reaction.
  • Multicolored . This type is the most labor-intensive and expensive. At the same time, multi-colored reinforced glass is produced only to order and is made exclusively for the client. The cost of such glass is justified by its ultra-durable qualities and unique design.

In addition to the difference in colors, reinforced glass can be distinguished by types of surfaces.

By type of surface

  • Polished/unpolished.
  • Patterned.
  • Embossed.

It is generally accepted that reinforced glass is designed to protect the user in the event of a panel collapse and that is where its functions end. But this was the case until recently, when new technologies appeared that improved its appearance.

By type of reinforcing wire

  • Nickel plated.
  • Steel.
  • Chrome plated.
  • Aluminum coated.

If glass is planned to be installed in large sizes, it must have enhanced strength. There are standards for wire parameters that should be taken into account during production. Thus, the diameter of steel wire varies from 4.5 to 6 mm. The cells that are formed after the introduction of the metal mesh can have a square or hexagonal shape.

Wired glass can be flat or wavy (like a slate sheet). It looks more aesthetically pleasing, which is why it is used on the facades of buildings and in lobbies. You can add aesthetics by applying a picture or pattern. Before the glass reaches the customer, it undergoes quality testing for its basic characteristics. The glass produced by our company always meets the highest standards. When ordering from us, you receive a quality product.

Types and application of material

There are several types of glass of this type on sale. They are used mainly for installation as windows, so there are not very many brands. In total there are:

  • — standard reinforced glass with a thickness of 6-8 millimeters;
  • - wavy reinforced glass with an uneven structure.

The second model is used for decoration, which is often used in the construction of entertainment centers. Such buildings usually have a non-standard shape in order to be strikingly different from the background of simple buildings. Therefore, the windows in them have an unusual shape. In terms of characteristics, the wavy model is no different from the usual one, although it has a larger surface area. But this does not affect the strength and functionality.

Reinforced glass pros and advantages

Today, simple glass, even beautiful glass, will not surprise the user, so it is important to produce a product that would differ not only in appearance, but also in quality characteristics. We produce a wide range of glass products. Reinforced glass is in great demand, and it is not surprising, because it has a lot of advantages:

  • Safe from injury. The fragments are small and rounded.
  • Shockproof. Capable of holding back intruders trying to get inside the premises for some time.
  • Durable. Wired glass can serve for decades, performing its intended function. It is resistant to cracking.
  • Protection from the consequences of fire. During the destruction of a building, the fall of burning objects is inevitable. Glass, which will rain sharp fragments on people, can cause great damage. Reinforced glass remains in an unbreakable state even if damaged. It may be deformed, but it will never collapse with sharp fragments.

It follows that this glazing option is suitable for different types of premises. In addition, the scope of application of reinforced glass is not small.

Application

Installation of safety glass is required in accordance with fire safety requirements. Reinforced double-glazed windows are used to glaze staircases in hospitals, kindergartens, and schools. Also, the need for reinforced glass arises at checkpoints or security points. Reinforced glass is used for glazing skylights, for arranging balcony partitions and barriers, as well as in other places where there is a need to create a vandal-proof glass structure.

However, it should be understood that only high-quality products guarantee the presence of all those properties of reinforced glass. During production manipulations, the glass mass is saturated with air bubbles. Excessive amounts of these bubbles can completely ruin the final product, making it unusable. Taking into account these features, GOST has identified the permissible dimensions of air capsules. If there are more of them than required, the glass is considered defective and should not be used where its reinforced properties are a priority. In order for glass to perform its functions, reinforcement technology must be strictly observed. Wired glass can be safely installed in utility rooms, on fire escapes, and in technical rooms.

Is it possible to use non-reinforced glass in fire doors instead of reinforced glass?

In accordance with clause 4.2.7 SP 1.13130.2009 “Fire protection systems. Evacuation routes and exits” (as amended on December 09, 2010) the doors of emergency exits from floor corridors, halls, foyers, lobbies and staircases should not have locks that prevent them from freely opening from the inside without a key. In buildings with a height of more than 15 m, these doors, except apartment doors, must be solid or only with reinforced glass

.

When choosing a vestibule door, it is better to seek help from professionals. People with some experience will help you with choosing a door, and will also measure the existing opening and, after manufacturing the structure, will install it.

Cutting technique

To set the canvas to the required dimensions at the installation site, you will have to work hard. The fact is that the wire, designed to ensure the integrity of the glass, will not allow you to easily remove unnecessary millimeters. Cutting reinforced glass is a labor-intensive process that only professionals can do. When breaking along the cut line, the glass is held in place by wire, so it must be bent and the protruding fragments of wire cut with wire cutters. High-quality reinforced glass will not crack during cutting, because all technical features are taken into account during production, and the presence of air bubbles does not exceed the permissible amount. It is more expedient to carry out these manipulations in a workshop where the appropriate equipment is installed.

Main advantages

But reinforced glass is fireproof. Due to the presence of a metal “core”, it will heat up evenly as the temperature rises, so it will not burst immediately after contact with an open fire. But when the critical temperature is reached, the glass will still not withstand it, so it should not be considered fireproof.

If you need to cut a specific piece from a whole sheet, you just need to cut the glass using a regular glass cutter, and bite off the excess edges of the wire with wire cutters. This will be very easy to do due to its small thickness.

Wired glass is also used for doors with a transparent insert. Quite often there are situations when closing such a door in a big way leads to glass breaking. And it is very important that it does not scatter throughout the room, but remains hanging on the wire.

Of course, it is much better to simply follow the basic rules of accuracy and close the door normally. But additional precautions will also not be superfluous. They can save someone's health, which means they should be used.

The price of reinforced glass is approximately 250 rubles per square meter. When purchasing a large amount of material, you can bargain for a discount.
