Hinges, Accessories
Any interior or solid entrance door performs protective functions. But besides this, it decorates the room and matches the interior.
It is important to choose the right hinges. If the awnings are chosen poorly, the doorway will look unsightly, and the panel may warp or cause an unpleasant creaking sound. To minimize possible defects, screw-in hinges are often installed.
Application area
A pin or screw-in trim, similar to corner structures, is intended for installation on doors equipped with a hinged quarter. In this case, the slats replace two small rods. Each pin is screwed into the door block and leaf.
Hidden hinge mechanism
Screw-in fittings designed for installing doors have a number of positive qualities. The pin is easily adjusted with a hex key in different directions:
- horizontal;
- height;
- clamping area.
The caps provide a beautiful look. They cover the rods and play the role of decorative elements. The industry produces such caps in different colors and shades. They are easy to match to the existing interior.
The choice of a pin model depends on the weight of the door leaf and its dimensions. Lightweight folding doors or swing structures are often equipped with screw-in canopies that have several rods (2-3).
When it comes to heavy door structures, products with four rods are reliable and durable. They are made from special steel and can withstand heavy loads.
Screw-in pad design
Such interior door parts consist of two cylindrical parts located symmetrically to each other. Holes are made in each half to secure them with mounting screws.
Each individual part was called a “barrel”. One cylindrical wing is attached to the door, the other part is tightly fixed to the door leaf.

Poor closing
Poor or loose closing of interior doors can be caused by the following factors:
- The skew of the door frame is due to improper connection of the beams. Eliminated by more tightly fastening all components of the box using screws. To do this, the box must first be dismantled;
- Insufficient deepening of the hinges into the box is eliminated by tightening the screws securing the hinges. If this does not help, you need to remove the box and deepen the niches for the hinges;
- Excessive deepening of the hinges in the door can be solved by loosening their fasteners.

This work is simple, but it requires certain skills in handling a screwdriver for tightening screws, a plumb line for determining the verticality of the surface, a hammer, a chisel and a plane for deepening the niches of the hinges. The video shows in detail how to adjust an interior door with hinges.
How are they arranged?
This type of door hardware consists of several parts:
- frame attached to the door;
- the leaf part is mounted on the door leaf;
- connecting pin.
The industry also produces mechanisms that include a ball and a special nylon insert. These parts provide:
- noiselessness;
- the friction force becomes minimal;
- service life increases.
Each part is equipped with a cap. It is designed to give the fittings a beautiful look and hide the internal mechanism. With such caps, the fittings fit into the design of the room, and their color scheme matches the existing interior.
What does it look like
Types of loops
The design of such fittings differs according to two important criteria.
- Dimensions. A small trim is intended for windows. Large screw-in systems are installed in the doors.
- Number of pin rods. Each system is equipped with four rods. For plastic doors and window sashes of light weight, awnings with two screw-in elements are installed. Three-pin canopies are installed for panels made of wood panels. If the canvas is made of solid wood, it is recommended to install fittings with 4 rods.
There are two types of linings in stores:
- adjustable;
- unregulated.
After installing the first type, you can align the position of the canvas relative to three planes. In this way, the exact location of the door is achieved. Her movement becomes silent and easy.
Where are screw-in hinges installed?
Such systems are designed for installation of all types of doors and wooden windows. Screw-in designs have several positive qualities compared to their analogues:
- Available in different colors;
- equipped with caps made of special, highly durable steel, they complement the fittings and make the hinges invisible;
- The main material of such loops is non-ferrous metal. Aluminum structures are most often made. Plastic is used only for lightweight door panels;
- high wear resistance: such hinges are not afraid of constant, intensive use;
- beautiful appearance;
- compactness.
- The range of decorative caps is simply huge. easy to match to any interior.

Characteristics
Advantages and disadvantages of piano hinges
Despite the fact that piano hinges are considered outdated fittings that were widely used several decades ago, they can still be found quite often in new furniture. Piano hinges have the following advantages that cannot be ignored:
- Simplicity of design, which includes a minimum number of elements.
- Easy installation that does not require the use of special equipment and tools.
- Problem-free operation and maintenance of the fittings.
- Affordable price on the furniture fittings market.
- Ensuring increased rigidity of the entire structure.
The list of advantages is really long, but with piano hinges not everything is so rosy. The main disadvantage of such fittings is that they are obsolete, which is why they are being actively replaced by other types of hinges
If performance characteristics are of decisive importance to you, do not pay attention to the history of this fittings - it copes well with its purpose and can be safely installed in furniture
Below you can view photos of piano hinges to clearly see how they differ in design. You will undoubtedly notice their resemblance to card fittings.
Piano hinges installed on furniture
Piano hinges are completely devoid of adjustment. If you need hardware that can be customized, opt for other types of hinges.
Design features
Piano hinges are almost identical in design to card hinges that are familiar to the eye - they have the same structure, with the exception of a higher length, which is significantly larger than the width of the fittings. Such hinges are often made by skilled home craftsmen in artisanal conditions due to the fact that factory production of piano hinges is gradually disappearing, and such fittings can now only be found in wooden furniture.
Loops can be cut to the desired length
Installation
To install a screw-in hinge, a certain technological sequence is followed.
- In order for the sash to become stable, it is fixed to the floor surface. This will ensure correct installation of the hinges. Special racks will help secure the sash. They are sold in furniture stores. Racks are easy to make with your own hands;
- The canvas is marked, then the box. The places where the loops will be located are indicated;
- A template for inserting hinges is attached to the sash using a clamp, making installation easier. It is usually included in the parts kit. If it is missing, it must be purchased separately. A good craftsman can easily make such a template on his own;
- Using an electric drill, holes of the required diameter are drilled. Rods are inserted into them. The depth of each hole is equal to the length of the parts. The number of holes drilled corresponds to the number of rods.
Preparatory work on the door block is carried out in exactly the same sequence:
- each part is attached to the appropriate place and fixed with screws;
- the flap part of the screw-in part is hung on the frame;
- decorative caps are put on.

When opening tightly
The reasons for a tight opening of an interior door may be:
- excessive deepening of loops
- swelling of the door leaf or frame.
In the first case, you will need to adjust the hinges, according to the algorithm of actions described in the previous paragraph, or reinstall the fastening elements.
Swelling of the canvas is a problem typical for wooden structures. To eliminate it, it is necessary to give the door its original geometric shape. The procedure consists of carefully removing part of the solid wood in problem areas using a plane. Then a layer of paint should be applied to the damaged surface.
Adjustment
After installing the canvases, the hinges are adjusted. It is carried out in several directions. To do this, specially installed adjusting screws located on the body of the part are loosened or tightened. The adjustment is performed in the following sequence:
- to set the horizontal direction, turn the top screw;
- adjusting the clamp, as well as setting the exact gap between the door block and the leaf, is done by turning the bottom screw;
- The position of the canvas along the vertical axis is set with the middle screw, rotating it in different directions to adjust the exact vertical.
To install screw-in hinges, follow the technology described above. However, such structures are difficult to install for an ordinary person. This requires a special approach and specific knowledge. If you are not confident in your abilities, it is better to turn to professionals. They will perform the work with high quality and reliability.
