Glazing of terraces, gazebos, verandas
Glazing of balconies and loggias
Lumon is a Finnish company that created the world's first frameless glazing systems . The company was founded in 1978, and by the first half of the 80s it became the largest regional company for the production and installation of window systems in southern Finland.
In 1990, Lumon specialists developed the concept of frameless sliding balcony glazing and created their first all-glass system. By the end of the 90s, the company took a leading position in the market for complex glazing of facades of Finnish new buildings. Today we can say that Lumon frameless systems define modern architecture in Finland.
Lumon is actively developing, improving its systems and expanding its product line. The company exports its products to Russia, Europe and North America, and enters new regional markets around the world.

Design
All you need to know about LUMON: it's impeccably simple. Therefore, no special maintenance is required. The upper profile holds the glass, the lower profile determines the trajectory of movement. There is a design with a lower supporting profile. You can glaze any perimeter: round, oval, with corners. Moisture and dust cannot interfere with the smooth movement of the valves, since all moving parts are reliably protected by the profile.
Frameless glazing of terraces, gazebos, verandas
For glazing terraces, Lumon offers two systems - Lumon 6T and Lumon 7T.
Lumon 6T is top-hung - the designs of this system create the main load on the upper profile; Lumon 7T is a bottom-support system, here the weight of the structure rests on the floor.
- Lumon systems can be used for glazing rooms of any shape and configuration - from a square veranda to a polygonal gazebo.
- The design allows you to completely open the glazing perimeter. Thanks to the ability to open the glass doors outward, all the usable space of the room is preserved.
- The lower profile recessed into the floor does not interfere with the passage through the open opening. The system is equipped with drainage systems made of thin sheet steel 0.5 mm thick.
- The all-glass design has good resistance to burglary thanks to tempered glass, a secure lock and the absence of frames.
- To protect from the scorching summer sun, pleated blinds can be installed on the glass panels. Each blind leaf is attached to a separate leaf, does not interfere with the opening of the panels and can be fixed at any height.
- In winter, the glass veranda on the southern facade of the house turns into a buffer zone that accumulates solar energy and saves up to 10% on heating.
There is no bad weather on a terrace equipped with the Lumon system. Enjoy comfort and natural surroundings 365 days a year!
Advantages
Frameless full glazing of large loggias and large balconies has two undeniable advantages:
- maximum lightness of the system;
- the ability to open the room to a fine day at any time without much effort.
The low weight of the profiles ensures that there is no excess load on the balcony slab, which is important for residents of upper floors and if the base of the balcony is planned to be expanded.
Fully opening the windows allows you to quickly ventilate the living space. The result is achieved both by moving the glass to the side and by folding it like a “book”.
- Glazing without frames on a balcony (or loggia) is attractive due to its maximum light transmission. The technology allows you to create a comfortable corner in your apartment for relaxation and sunbathing, even on mild winter days. In addition, light-loving indoor plants can be placed on such a balcony.
- By the way, Finnish loggias, balconies and the space adjacent to them are a little warmer than ordinary ones glazed using vertical supports and frames, because the sun heats a large area of the glass surfaces of the balcony.
- The advantages of this technology also include reliable protection from dust, rain, and snow. This is achieved due to the tightness of the transparent structure.
- Reliability of balcony elements and, accordingly, safety.
When glazing using the described method, not ordinary glass, but tempered glass of the required strength (from 8 mm to 1 cm) is used. If you want to provide greater security or for decorative purposes, you can install a parapet.
- Anti-burglary qualities - with closed windows it is almost impossible to enter the room.
- According to reviews, frameless balcony glazing is very practical to use. It is only necessary to lubricate the rollers, fittings and fastenings once a year, and it is advisable to carry out their technical inspection. The glass is easy to clean inside and out. They are sanded along the perimeter to eliminate the risk of cuts. And if frameless sliding glazing of the balcony is used, then cleaning the glass will be even more convenient and safe.
- Sufficient sound insulation.
- Resistant to gusts of wind, no vibration or whistling in windy weather.
Durability is guaranteed if you order frameless balcony glazing from high-quality components.
In the photo, frameless glazing of balconies and loggias gives them an aesthetic, “fresh” look, both from the façade of the building and when viewed from the inside. Frameless glazing structures can be used in a home greenhouse, terraces, and as an internal transparent partition in an apartment or studio, if you need to visually divide the room without blocking access to sunlight.
Frameless glazing of loggias and balconies
For glazing balconies, Lumon offers two systems - Lumon 5 and Lumon 6. The second system is used for operation in extreme conditions - in high-rise buildings with high wind loads. Lumon 6 offers greater glass height and glass panel width than the previous model.
- The use of frameless balcony systems improves the lighting of the adjacent room. In addition, the design ensures ventilation of the room and prevents premature destruction of the balcony, protecting it from precipitation and wind.
- According to studies conducted in Finland and Western European countries, the use of Lumon balcony structures can reduce heating costs by 5-7%.
- Lumon balcony glazing reduces street noise levels by 8-12 dB, depending on the thickness of the glass used.
- The Lumon system allows you to choose any color (according to the international RAL catalog) for the aluminum profile, as well as use different types of glass (frosted, tinted, etc.), which makes it possible to design the balcony space to your liking.
- Opening the design panels inward ensures safe and convenient cleaning of the outer surfaces of the glass panels.
Use the Lumon system to transform your balcony into a zone of comfort and harmony!
Balcony with a book.
The balcony can be opened entirely by assembling the glass on the side in a “book.” Each glass, top and bottom, has an aluminum plate on which movable hinge rollers are attached. With the help of these rollers, the sashes move freely along the guides. The balcony can be opened fully or partially. To do this, you must first release the latch on the first glass and open it inward, like a regular window sash. The second glass slides into the vacant space, turns and stands next to the first. The remaining windows open in the same way.

Unique opportunities
Due to its design, frameless glazing is breathable and does not prevent air from entering the glazed room. It is light in weight. Therefore, its installation does not require permission. Due to the absence of frames, glazing does not disfigure architectural facades. LUMON glazing can be found in the historical center of Moscow and St. Petersburg. Glazing glasses can be of any height. They are combined with forged fencing bars, concrete balusters and plastic. You can glaze the French balcony from floor to ceiling. In addition to glazing, LUMON offers balcony railings: frameless, transparent, colored.

Basic Finnish glazing systems
There are the following types of frameless glazing (according to the sash opening system):
- sliding partitions, including automatic ones;
- doors that swing outwards or inwards;
- swing doors that open in both directions.
The use of auxiliary profiles during installation allows the installation of complex structures, combining hinged, removable, sliding sashes with blind ones.
Profiles for frameless glazing are produced by many Finnish companies. The systems “Cover”, “Lumon”, “Luxsyst” deserve attention.
The Luxsyst system is characterized by a narrow profile and the ability to open up to 75% of the balcony due to 4 rail guides.
When opened, the doors (up to 8 pieces) are collected into a pack. As soon as you pull one of them, the others will begin to cling to each other, opening or closing the opening.
Popular analogues from other countries
SKS-Stakusit profile is an ideal option for those who value reliability and durability above all else. The manufacturer has been filling the domestic market with its products for over 10 years. During this time, the company studied the characteristics of our climate and Russian housing construction.
Estel is a Russian company that produces and distributes glass enclosing structures, including frameless glazing systems. Today this manufacturer is at the forefront of the domestic construction market. This is facilitated by 10 years of experience. Estel is concerned about constantly improving the quality of its products and modernizing production.
Prices and where to buy
In Moscow, prices for a frameless balcony start from $160 – 200 per m², but in Russia they can reach 30 thousand rubles. per m², which depends on the region of the country. This is a lot of money even for families with average incomes. The Finnish system is the most expensive.
The cost of frameless glazing consists of many factors: the design of the system used (a “book” will cost more than a parallel-sliding system), the number of fixed and opening sashes, the use of expensive tempered glass, the height of the opening (the higher it is, the lower the price per m²), the amount of glass used accessories. The price includes preparatory work, not just installation.
Prices below market prices should be alarming. After all, frameless glazing is not yet widespread enough in the Russian Federation and not every contractor is qualified to perform it.
