How to use Cosmofen liquid plastic for plastic windows

Preparations produced by the Cosmofen brand for cleaning plastic windows, as a rule, have a liquid consistency and diluents in the composition of Cosmofen (at the same time, diluting them with other window cleaners is quite difficult).

The cleaner is colorless and its main ingredients contain esters of carboxylic acids, which corrode and dissolve various types of contaminants.

Among the main advantages of using Cosmofen 10 window cleaner and other window cleaners in this series are the following:

1. With their help, you can effectively clean various inscriptions, dirt, dust, grease deposits, sealants and resins, adhesives, etc. etc., which accumulate in the upper layers of the base.

Liquid plastic Cosmofen is a one-component adhesive with low viscosity. When interacting with air and temperatures, it quickly changes its state of aggregation from liquid to solid, so it is necessary to install and fix the surfaces very quickly and correctly.

Manufactured in Germany by Weiss. The composition includes components for the resistance of the adhesive to moisture and UV radiation.

The one-component product contains solvents, fillers such as polyurethane, resins with an alkyd or acrylic base. Additional components are plasticizers, modifiers, and other substances that enhance the effectiveness of Cosmofen. Depending on the composition, the glue can be used on wooden, plastered, polymer, concrete and metal surfaces.

Used for interior and exterior work, in private and commercial premises. Used for fiberboard, MDF, chipboard, on painted, brick walls, plywood, composites and other surfaces, excluding floors. Cosmofen glues best to plastic, bases made of polyvinyl chloride, hard plastic, polystyrene, polycarbonate and plexiglass.

Cleaner Cosmofen - description of the product

Cleaning products for plastic windows under the Cosmofen brand are liquid materials with the addition of a solvent that slightly soften surfaces. The cleaner looks like a colorless, transparent solution; it contains a mixture of carboxylic acid esters that can dissolve dirt and clean plastic.

Cosmofen 10 or 20, other means provide the following actions:

• remove dirt, grease, markings, glue, sealant, resin, and other contaminants that have penetrated into the upper layers of PVC and other substrates,
• remove particles of polyurethane foam that have fallen on the plastic,
• prepare the surface for gluing with other substrates,
• give an antistatic effect, which protects windows from contamination in the future,
• “erase” small scratches and cracks by slightly softening the plastic (not all products in the series are capable of this).

Such washes are used in dry rooms - the compositions do not tolerate high humidity. Funds of this type have many advantages. The quality of window cleaning will be very high with economical consumption and low price (about 270 rubles per liter). It’s very easy to use the products; you don’t have to be a professional to do it.

Advantages

Flaws

• Quick adhesion to the surface is a minus for beginners. You need to work with the mixture quickly and correctly, since there is little time left to correct the position of the parts to be glued.
• The substrate to be treated must be completely dry. Only after complete polymerization can the seam be exposed to moisture.
• Some products are difficult to remove from the surface if accidentally applied. To remove excess you need a special solvent.
• Cosmofen is not good for gluing porous materials.
• Fixed, non-elastic seam.
• Cosmofen is highly flammable; fire safety regulations must be observed.

Scope of use

In most cases, Cosmofen is purchased for the purpose of cleaning window frames and window sills made of plastic, since it can help eliminate most of the dirt and give the surfaces an aesthetic appearance.

Range

Cosmofen products have different viscosities, which determines their scope of application.

For example, Cosmofen Plus glue has a medium viscosity, while its subtype Cosmofen Plus HV has a higher viscosity. You cannot replace products from this line with adhesives from the Cosmo series used for plastic (liquid plastic has a different operating principle).

Cosmofen PMMA for acrylic

Solvent composition, instantly glues acrylic. Initially developed for gluing plexiglass. They connect window profiles to the outer acrylic layer. Used in the manufacture of advertising products and commercial equipment from acrylic. It is a polymer composition containing solvents and is resistant to UV radiation.

Excess is removed by tearing off the hardened strips. The base material is not damaged.

Cosmofen Plus for PVC

• Used for installation and repair of windows, window sills and other parts made of rigid PVC.
• Flashings, slopes, blind slats, and additional profiles are sealed and glued.
• Connect plumbing pipes and gutters.
• Used for gluing billboards and banners.

The advantage is resistance to temperatures and UV radiation. It is a diffuse mixture based on PVC combined with solvents.

Pressure pipes must not be glued together.

Adhesive-sealant Cosmofen 345

Liquid plastic Cosmofen 345 is used to seal and seal seams on window elements made of rigid PVC. The adhesive connection is resistant to atmospheric conditions and UV radiation.

Cosmofen 345 does not crack, does not shrink strongly, does not spread, and fills joints up to 0.5 cm deep.

The main component is transparent silicone, so the sealant is used for gluing translucent metal-plastic structures.

You can glue wooden, concrete, stone bases. For an adhesive joint up to 2 cm wide, 8 g of sealant is consumed per linear meter. The glue is sold in PA cartridges weighing 305 g. Delivery from the manufacturer is carried out in boxes of 20 cartridges each.

Cosmofen Plus HV for PVC

Quickly glues hard PVC surfaces. Indispensable when installing PVC windows; it is used for fixing drains, protective strips, flashings, and closing parts. They attach panels, profiles, boxes, banners, and other advertising structures. PVC glue is used for plumbing work, but should not be used on water pipes.

This is a one-component, colorless mixture with high viscosity. Has a gel-like consistency. Based on polyvinyl chloride and tetrahydrofuran. Contains UV stabilizers.

After curing, the seam is durable and resistant to ultraviolet radiation.

Cosmofen Plus S for PVC

It differs from other compositions of the Cosmofen series in color (it is white). Used for gluing to PVC windows, for plumbing work, in the manufacture and repair of advertising products, rain gutters, pipes (except pressure ones).

Has the same technical characteristics. If the mixture is too thick, then when using it, it can be diluted with Cosmofen 380.

Instructions for use

The surface to be glued or repaired is cleaned of dirt, dust and grease stains. Afterwards, the intended joint is degreased with Cosmofen 10 or 60. For cleaning or degreasing, lint-free rags are used that do not leave marks on the surface. After complete drying, proceed to gluing.

1. The glue is carefully squeezed out from the tube into the joint of the parts along the entire length.
2. The substance does not smear or rub in.
3. Whenever possible, the parts are pressed together.
4. Time is expected until complete hardening (indicated in the instructions).
5. The position of the parts can be adjusted within the first seconds after application.

Cosmofen should be used at t=+5...+25 °C and humidity no more than 60%. You can put a load on the glued parts no earlier than after 16-20 hours. Average consumption per 1 sq. m. is 0.15 kg.

After completing the work, tightly close the tube of glue. Thoroughly clean the cap and neck of the package, otherwise residual glue may permanently bind them together.

How to use the cleaner

All products in this line are very easy to use and you don’t need to know any special skills to use them.

For the cleaner to have maximum effect, it must be applied to well-dried substrates (which must first be wiped with water or Cosmofen 20 walked over them).

Next, it is imperative (after putting on gloves) to wipe the base with a cloth soaked in cleaner for plastic windows (the number of approaches depends on how much dirt has ingrained itself into the surface).

Further surface treatment

You can remove Cosmofen residues from tools using a cleaner from the same manufacturer. If glue gets on the PVC base, wait until the drying time is complete and carefully cut off the excess with a thin blade.

Not completely dried glue can be wiped off with Cosmofen 597 or Cosmo CL-300.110 cleaner. But it is better to immediately carry out all the work carefully without any blots, because due to the high strength of the hardened composition, it is not always possible to remove its excess and stains.

Grouting of seams is started only after the composition has completely dried, so as not to break the tightness of the seams.

Range and characteristics of cleaners

The Cosmo CL 300 series produces four main products that are most often found on the building materials market. The compositions differ in the concentration of active substances, which determines the quality of plastic cleaning. The materials have a number of other differences.

Cosmofen 5 (Cosmo CL-300.110)

Strongly dissolving cleaner Cosmofen 5 is the most popular product for removing cracks, scratches, and polishing PVC surfaces. It will help remove traces of friction on the material, not only on polyvinyl chloride, but also on polystyrene, PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate), and impact-resistant ABS plastic.

The areas of application of the product are varied:

• production and home use of plastic windows,
• advertising industry,
• furniture manufacture.

The product is suitable for white materials and has powerful solvent properties. In addition to carboxylic acid esters, the composition contains aliphatic ketones that complement the effect. For home use, it is recommended to buy the cleaner in a 1-liter package; for industry, containers of 10 and 30 liters (metal cans) are available.

Cosmofen 10 (Cosmo CL-300.120)

The product is based exclusively on esters of carboxylic acids and does not contain chlorinated, aromatic hydrocarbons.

Cosmo CL-300.120 is a low-solvent cleaner that is suitable for the special preparation of rigid polyvinyl chloride for gluing. The wash is suitable for removing coarse contaminants and removing markings that are made on the profiles of plastic windows.

The material is used only on white PVC. Not intended for softening surfaces or removing minor defects.

Advantages and technical characteristics:

• operating temperature - minimum +5 degrees,
• ignition temperature - +460 degrees,
• does not damage materials during application,
• resistance to climate influences.

Cosmofen 20

Cleaner Cosmofen 20 or Cosmo CL-300.140 is a non-solvent cleaner based on aliphatic hydrocarbons. Contains an antistatic agent and is intended for cleaning profiles and other products made of rigid polyvinyl chloride, rigid foam boards, film-coated polyurethane. The product is suitable for cleaning products made from different types of plastics, plexiglass.

What can remove the material? These are the following types of pollutants:

• sealant,
• resins and bitumen,
• fresh mounting foam,
• pencils and pens,
• rubber,
• pieces of tape, film,
• dirt, dust,
• fat.

Most often, the material is purchased to clean plastic windows and doors with a slight degree of contamination. The scope of application concerns exhibition stands, advertising items, billboards, and industrial polymer processing.

The cleaner does not have a solvent effect; the antistatic agent contained in the composition protects surfaces from re-contamination for a long time. The product will not damage profiles or decorative film coating. Produced in containers of 1 liter, 10, 30, 200 liters.

Cosmofen 60

Cosmofen 60 (Cosmo CL-300.150) is a fast-drying cleaner for painted, anodized surfaces.

Designed to remove:

• fresh traces of glue,
• dust, dirt,
• fat,
• marks from pencils, rubber,
• fresh polyurethane foam,
• sealant,
• resins, bitumen.

Using the product, you can clean surfaces made of painted, anodized aluminum, and polymers. Surfaces are treated with Cosmofen 60 to prepare for bonding, for final cleaning and degreasing. The cleaner can be used to dilute various adhesives.

The product does not dissolve, combines well with paints and varnishes, dries quickly, and does not contain chlorinated hydrocarbons. Available in containers of 1 liter, 10, 30, 200 liters.

Restrictions on use

• Cosmofen should not be used in places of constant direct contact with liquid. It is only applicable in conditions of occasional wetness.
• If surfaces that are too porous are to be treated, they are pre-coated with a special compound.
• Aluminum parts are pre-treated with a special solution so as not to reduce the quality of the connection.
• When gluing polypropylene or PET, the strength of the joints may be reduced.
• When applying glue to surfaces with different thermal expansion, there is a high risk of parts detaching.
• You cannot seal a PVC window pane.
• When joining foam plastic, Cosmofen is applied in a thin layer so as not to deform the surface. Under a thick layer, the foam may fall off.

Since Cosmofen products are flammable, do not smoke during operation or use them near open flame sources or heating devices.

The glue is difficult to clean, so you need to work in old clothes and gloves. During work, good ventilation of the room is done to minimize the ingress of glue vapor into the respiratory system. If ventilation is not possible, work in a respirator or fabric bandage. Not recommended for use by people prone to allergic reactions.
