Colored plastic windows: add variety to a boring interior!

Glazing with a white PVC profile is not always optimal from the point of view of designing the facade of the building and the interior. The most correct solution in this case would be to install colored plastic windows. Manufacturing companies offer more than 1000 colors and shades , as well as coatings that imitate wood, stone or metal. How to make the right choice and not get lost in the variety of tinting options will be discussed later in this article.

Application technology

To give the profile a color other than white, different technologies are used. Plastic can be pigmented in the mass, coated with a coloring compound or laminated with a special film.

Lamination

The essence of the technology is to paste the profile with acrylic film, and the result is an almost monolithic colored product.

At the first stage, the front surface of a regular white profile is covered with a priming mixture - a primer, which is necessary to ensure strong subsequent adhesion of the plastic to the laminate. Primed parts are heated in special chambers to the required temperature, then removed from the chambers and covered with decorative film. The gluing is carried out in a machine, the rollers of which press the laminating layer to the surface of the heated profile. This approach makes it possible to achieve adhesion of contacting materials at the intermolecular level. This makes the finished product resistant to mechanical damage and durable.

Film coating comes in different colors and shades and can imitate any type of wood, stone or metal. There are high-tech analogues that repeat not only the structure of the wood, but also its relief, which makes it possible to achieve almost complete external resemblance to the original.

The film also has wood embossing

The laminated surface does not fade in the sun, is mechanically strong - it is quite difficult to leave a scratch on it. Double-sided lamination with different materials is possible - only the ends of the profile, hidden from the eyes of others, will remain unprocessed.

Coloring

The plastic is coated with a layer of dye, which is applied either by spraying or extrusion. The technology allows you to get much more color shades than with lamination.

Powder coating is applied to the cleaned profile using airless spraying. The number of layers depends on the color and quality requirements of the painted surface, for example, metallic requires a two-layer treatment.

Benefits of coloring:

  • Rich color variety. All shades of the RAL palette are available, including matte and glossy options.
  • Availability. The dye application process is much faster and simpler than lamination.
  • Maintainability. The window can always be repainted or, if necessary, change the color.

Flaws:

  • Low mechanical strength and resistance to fading compared to film coating;
  • High-quality application of pigment requires a highly qualified painter.
  • You cannot imitate the texture of wood or its relief.

Extrusion painting provides a durable, long-lasting coating that will not wear off during use or fade from sunlight. The essence of the technology is vacuum fusing of colored acrylic polymer onto a plastic surface, resulting in a protective tint layer about 0.5 mm thick.

Bulk coloring

The color of the plastic is close to the color of the film.
The coloring pigment is added to the liquid raw material (polyvinyl chloride) at the stage of profile production. In this way, it is possible to obtain a color that is most resistant to mechanical damage, since the tinting compound is located in the plastic of the profile itself. The influence of ultraviolet radiation largely depends on the quality of the dye, and on cheap products partial fading of the surface is often noticeable. One of the significant drawbacks is the poor color variety - the most common are light brown and dark brown profiles. The main advantage is the relatively low price.

PVC profile lamination process

One of the advantages of window lamination is the durability of the color coating. Long-term preservation of color and gloss is due to the properties of the film used. It consists of an acrylic base and polymethylacrylate; these substances are resistant to atmospheric influences and temperature changes, scratches and deformation when the doors are regularly opened and closed.

Lamination of PVC windows is carried out on the profile, before it is cut and welded into frames. The technology presupposes the presence of high-precision equipment at the enterprise for dense and uniform laying of the film on the profile. The profile is processed with a primer. Using a laminating machine, a film is glued onto the workpiece, onto which one-component or two-component adhesive is first applied.

Before application, one-component adhesive is heated to a temperature above 100C. In two-component technology, high temperature is not required. The adhesive components are mixed at normal temperature immediately before application. When gluing, the film is immediately crimped with special rollers to the shape of the profile surface, which ensures the most tight fit and reliable fixation.

Thus, laminating PVC windows with your own hands is not possible: only blanks are laminated, not assembled window frames; it will not be possible to obtain a similar result without special equipment.

Advantages and disadvantages

All the positive qualities of ordinary plastic windows can also be attributed to their colored counterparts. They are practical, durable, characterized by a high level of thermal insulation and noise absorption.

Positive traits:

  • Possibility of color design that matches the interior of the room inside and the facade of the building outside.
  • Metal-plastic glazing with wood imitation will cost much less than a structure for the manufacture of which natural raw materials were used.
  • The decorative layer can be applied only on one side, which is especially important if it is necessary to maintain the holistic visual design of the overall facade in apartment buildings.
  • Structures painted in dark colors are much more practical than white ones; they do not require frequent labor-intensive maintenance (dirt is not so noticeable on them).
  • Any of the decorative processing technologies described above is safe for the health of the residents of the premises in which colored plastic windows are installed.
  • The tinting coating provides additional protection to the profile and helps to increase its service life, preserving the external characteristics of the window or balcony.

There are also disadvantages:

  • Structures made from colored PVC profiles are more expensive than those made from regular white plastic. The price depends on the coating technology and may be 30%-60% higher.
  • Scratches may appear on the surface laminated with film, which is very noticeable if there is a white profile underneath. The film coating is characterized by fairly high strength, but it is still much lower than that of polyvinyl chloride. Powder dyes are even more susceptible to mechanical damage, but they are easier to paint over. Scratches on the film are also partially masked with special markers.
  • Colored windows require appropriate fittings - you will need other handles, awnings, sealing bands, window sills and other accessories that are more expensive than the common white ones.
  • A painted or film-coated profile is more prone to thermal deformation than usual. This must be taken into account when taking dimensions and installation work. The installation gap increases, which somewhat reduces the rigidity of the fixation in the opening, especially if the window is on the south side. Due to high deformation loads, the colored profile is reinforced with massive reinforcing elements (steel thickness 1.5 mm), this increases the already considerable weight of the metal-plastic structure.

Colored plastic PVC windows | Why are colored plastic windows a new design trend?

Recently, more and more often you can see colored plastic PVC windows in private country houses, in new buildings in new areas of megalopolises, in various government buildings. buildings, universities and new office developments. Colored PVC windows are now becoming not just some kind of rarity and the desire of a private customer to stand out among the cottage houses in their village, but a real design trend that is used in mass construction, renovation and interior design.

Previously, there was only one way to create a colored PVC window - laminating the window profile with a specialized film, but unfortunately, this method of changing color currently cannot satisfy all the desires and needs for the appearance of a plastic window. Variations of lamination are always limited in the choice of color and coating (basically, these are 25-30 ready-made solutions in a matte version or “wood-like”), and for the implementation of many design solutions, this is a very small choice and is completely “unfashionable”.

Therefore, thanks to the great need for interesting colored plastic windows , paint and varnish industry concerns have brought to the market specialized paint and varnish materials for painting PVC plastic windows , which can fully satisfy all consumer desires in color, appearance and finished coating of colored PVC plastic windows .

The market for paint and varnish materials does not stand still, and over the past few years, manufacturers of paints and varnishes have so modernized products for painting plastic windows that today a painted PVC window not only looks unusual and non-standard, but is also the most convenient to use (the paint coating protects the window is protected from yellowing, fading, various mechanical influences and is easy to locally repair if damaged). You can find out more about the advantages of painted PVC windows here .

Today, with the help of specialized paint for PVC windows, you can get an endless number of colors and shades with varying degrees of gloss (from super-matte to high-gloss), which will suit absolutely any interior of the room or exterior of the building. Now colored PVC windows painted with paint can be bright or calm pastel, can have a metallic or pearlescent effect, and can also be painted in any shade according to the sample (for example, to match the color of the interior walls, to match the color of the roof or facade of the house) - The choice of shade for a colored plastic window is not at all organic.

In principle, even inside and outside, a plastic colored PVC window can be of different shades, if required by the design project. This method of painting PVC plastic windows (double-sided) allows you to easily change the interior of the room without disturbing the overall appearance of apartment buildings and new buildings. Therefore, today a colored PVC window can be afforded not only by the owner of a cottage or country house, but also by a person who lives in an apartment in the city or even in the historical center of a metropolis, without at all disturbing the appearance of the building’s façade.

In addition to the fact that you can bring to life any color or shade for a PVC plastic window , together with the window profile, you can color the window fittings, slopes and window sills, thereby creating not just a colored plastic window , but a whole design of the entire window opening, which Ultimately it will be a whole design solution for the interior of the room. Thus, you can create entire art projects and implement the most non-standard solutions for any construction project.

Trends in colored plastic PVC windows

Like any other trends in fashion and design, trends in the color and shade of PVC plastic windows are always changing. Several years ago, the most popular shades for windows were white, brown RAL 8017 and various wood shades. Perhaps this is precisely due to the meager supply of film for window lamination, which was very popular several years ago.

But now, thanks to innovative developments in the paint and varnish industry, a plastic colored window can be absolutely anything. For example, over the past year the most popular colors for plastic windows have been grey, anthracite, graphite and black.

The color range for painting windows includes more than 48,547 solid shades, plus various colors of gold, brass and other metals, shades with metallic additives and mother-of-pearl, but the biggest advantage about painting PVC plastic windows is not even such a large selection of colors, but the choice of appearance finished paint coating.

The appearance of the finished coating is a choice of gloss and texture of the painted colored plastic window. This suggests that even the same shade can look completely different. As the trend shows, now the most popular trend on the market is a dull mat (completely lacking shine) and soft rubberized “SOFT-TOUCH” coatings. A blank mat adds effect, style and aesthetics to any shade. Nowadays, even in interior design, the most popular wall covering is deep matte paints in rich shades. It is the dull mat that gives any coating depth of color, special brightness and velvety, this also applies to colored PVC plastic windows.

Advantages of painted colored PVC windows and their cost

Nowadays, colored PVC windows are a very affordable way to change the overall appearance of a building's façade and room design. Thanks to the rapid development of the market for painting plastic windows throughout Russia and the availability of specialized products for plastic windows, which allow for quick and high-quality painting without extra costs, a colored plastic window is no longer a rarity that is only available for expensive and extravagant room designs.

This availability of creating colored PVC windows is really due to the massive need that has emerged recently. Nowadays, many manufacturing plants and professional painting companies offer colored plastic windows both for construction companies and for private customers. Painting PVC windows in bulk with special paints that do not require additional priming (painting occurs simply in two layers with the same product) does not greatly affect the final cost of a colored plastic window. But at the same time, you always need to know and understand that painting will be done with specialized certified products for PVC windows with a guarantee for the finished paint coating, for example, ICS5821 paint with an official certificate of quality for the durability of the coating for 40 conditional years of operation. It is special products for PVC plastic windows that allow you to paint windows in just a few stages in a very short time, since they have direct adhesion to PVC plastic, have high mechanical and color resistance, dry very quickly and allow you to get any necessary shade that you just need. want it.

In addition to the main advantages of painted colored plastic windows , such as:

  • protection against yellowing of window profiles;
  • protection from various mechanical influences;
  • quick repairability (by the way, both already painted windows and unpainted windows - here we are talking about local repairs or replacing the entire color of an unpainted already installed window directly on site, in a house or apartment)

we can say that now colored PVC plastic windows are a definite trend in the interior design of premises and the exterior of a building.

By painting PVC plastic windows, you can create any individual design project that will be special, original and unique, even if we are talking about two identical cottage houses (the same style and color of the facade). After installing colored plastic windows and, for example, a garage door in the same color as the windows (or vice versa), the appearance of the house will immediately become special and personalized. And if we talk about the interior of the room, then there are absolutely no limits to reproducing any desire of the customer.

Today, colored plastic windows and the design of an entire window opening is a new direction in design and engineering, which is rapidly gaining momentum in the construction and renovation market. Our company is ready to help realize any ideas, desires, needs and concepts in the field of painting and creating colored PVC plastic windows with an integrated approach to solving problems for both private customers and manufacturing plants with mass production.

Selection of colors for the facade

Such a problem is practically not encountered when glazing apartments, but owners of private houses and summer cottages have something to think about. As a rule, one of two options is considered - choosing either a contrasting profile color or one that harmonizes with the facade.

When choosing a harmonizing color, they usually give preference to the same shade as the facade, but darker. For example, if the house is decorated with yellow-sand siding, it is better to choose a brown or dark brown profile for glazing.

Gray walls go well with dark gray frames; metallic options or black painting are possible.

The architectural style of the building is also important. Classic options go best with wood-look windows or plain dark shades.

Modern solutions harmonize better with gray or black frames; metallic is also welcome. The extravagant style is the simplest in terms of choosing the color of the windows - any bright colors will do.

Another guideline is the material of the roof and doors. Chocolate-colored metal tiles will look good with the same window profile.

As for doors, in most situations it is better when they do not differ in tone and texture from windows.

The most difficult thing is when choosing a contrasting window design. It is necessary that the glazing stands out against the general background and at the same time remains part of the facade, without causing a feeling of rejection. One option is to use a brighter shade than the walls. For example, against the background of red brick trim, the rich yellow color of the frames looks good.

Colored glazing in the interior

As with the façade, either harmony with the interior environment or contrast is possible. Let's consider options suitable for both cases:

  • Selection in accordance with the color of interior doors. This element, like the windows, changes relatively rarely, and if the glazing is made in the same style as the doors, the overall design of the room can be considered harmonious.

  • Depending on the walls. Another win-win solution is to paint the frame profile in a color close to the tone of the wall finishing material. Dark green windows are suitable for green rooms.

  • Under furniture. It must be remembered that cabinets and bedside tables are replaced more often than windows or doors. The decision can be considered justified if the room has good quality wooden furniture. In such cases, it is optimal to install laminated frames with imitation wood types of furniture.

  • Room decoration style. The situation is similar to the facade. For a classic or country style, frames with a laminated wood profile or painted in a dark color are suitable.

Light colors harmonize better with Provence style rooms. A modern high-tech interior will be well complemented by plain gray profiles; metallic is also appropriate.

  • Contrast indoors – the solution is quite controversial.

What may seem fresh and unusual at first can become irritating and uncomfortable over time. If you still want something unusual, it is better to choose tones from those close to the color wheel.

Colors

Wood-look laminated windows are a good alternative to expensive wooden structures that require special operating conditions and special care.

Of the main films with imitation wood texture, the most popular are: natural, dark and golden oak, and mahogany. Dark oak window lamination looks the same in the photo as it does in real life. You can understand that this is laminated plastic and not wood only by opening the sash and looking at the rebate. Other options for the primary colors of the film look just as natural.

Sometimes it is necessary to choose a color that best matches the interior or exterior decoration, or the color scheme of the interior. Other shades in which window lamination is performed: stained oak, Chamonix, northern, southern, striped pine, African cherry, walnut and many others.

Wood-look lamination is an excellent option for classic interiors, as well as some modern styles, such as eco, retro, eclectic and others.

Other options

There are also plain lamination films without texture, which allow you to obtain, for example, black PVC windows that fit perfectly into modern interiors, such as loft, hi-tech, minimalism. No less popular are films in various shades of blue, gray and brown.

You can choose the colors of PVC window lamination according to the RAL catalogue. Lamination of windows according to RAL is possible, however, the choice of shades is limited by the color schemes in which the film manufacturer produces the products.

What is important to consider

When choosing, for example, brown PVC windows, you should think about the color of the end surfaces. If a white profile is laminated, then when the window is open, the white ends of the sashes and sash openings in the frame become visible, which contrast with the brown lamination of the front surfaces of the frames.

For an impeccable appearance of the translucent structure, even with the doors open, it makes sense to order a profile painted in the mass in the color “dark chocolate” or “caramel”, depending on the chosen shade of lamination.

It is also worth taking care of choosing handles and other fittings in the appropriate colors so that the window has a complete design.

Colored window sills

Classic white window sills are quite practical, but they do not suit every room interior. This prompted manufacturers to look for an alternative, and wood-look products became the most widespread.

A common production technology is lamination. This method, firstly, is the most practical - acrylic or melamine-impregnated film has high strength characteristics, is difficult to scratch and practically does not fade in the sun. Secondly, laminated window sills are not much more expensive than white ones.

The external design options are more varied than those of a laminated metal-plastic profile. Naturally, the most popular structure is wood, but imitation of natural stone, marble or metals are also in demand.

A plastic window sill, which looks like granite or marble, may turn out to be more practical than its natural counterpart.

The sizes of the window sill profile are quite varied; it is possible to choose the appropriate option for common types of walls in city apartments. Most frame profile manufacturers also offer window sill boards in the corresponding color. The width of the board is usually from 5 to 40 cm; length 6-6.5 m; thickness 18-30 mm. The plastic is perfectly cut to size, which greatly simplifies installation work.

Approximate prices

Common window models made from warm colored profiles usually cost 30% more than white ones. There are more expensive options, the price of which is somewhat inflated due to the technology of applying the tint layer and the characteristics of the materials used.

Double-leaf white window made of a warm profile (1420x1150) – 9500 RUR; the same window made of colored profile (wood-look laminate) – 12,050 RUR.

If you don’t want to completely change your newly installed white windows, there are companies that provide lamination services. The cost of covering one side is about 1600 rubles; on both sides - 2500 rub.
