How to install a ceiling track for curtains Useful tips for designing your home

What is a decorative insert?

After installing the stretch ceiling, there remains a gap between it and the wall that needs to be masked. And it is advisable to make this an aesthetically attractive element or unnoticeable.

A decorative insert for suspended ceilings is a plastic plug of a certain shape that closes the gap between the wall and the ceiling. This product is simply inserted into the gap, and the wide sides completely hide it under their surface.

Since such a plug does not adhere to the glue, if it is necessary to dismantle the canvas, for example, when flooded with water, it can be easily removed and then installed again.

Baguette strips and flexible hoods made of fabric or plastic are an easy way to decorate the interior. The pads are easy to maintain and, if necessary, can be easily replaced with products of a different design.

At what distance from the wall to mount

The first question that arises when you start installing a cornice above a window is at what distance from the corner it should be attached. Close? Stepping back 10 cm? 20 cm?

The curtain rod should be placed so that it hangs freely without touching the window sill or heating radiators.

In fact, the distance can be from 8 to 15-20 cm. It is determined depending on the location of the heating radiators and/or window sill. The cornice must be placed so that the tulle and curtains hang freely, without touching either one or the other. Firstly, this way the drapery lies perfectly, secondly, it is better for the fabrics, and thirdly, there is better air circulation, which is important during the heating season.

Beautiful interiors

A correctly selected lens hood can breathe life into the interior and make it more complete. For example, in a minimalist green bedroom with a white ceiling and beige floor, you can hang cozy lime curtains on a cornice decorated with a simple white strip of large width. Play up the ensemble with a small green chair near the window, white pillows on the bed, a green blanket and a caramel carpet on the floor.

In an elegant bedroom with snow-white walls and ceiling, as well as a taupe floor, you can place a double white bed with chocolate linens, a beautiful white chest of drawers and complete the interior with warm creme brulee curtains on a curtain rod with a chocolate carved strip.

An interesting and cozy interior will be created if in a room with a white ceiling and walls you place a wooden bed with a high headboard and footboard, as well as elegant armchairs with carved legs and soft upholstery with studs. The windows in such a room should be decorated with beige curtains with dull floral prints and a beautiful trim made in a similar vein.

A golden blend will look beautiful in a bedroom with a white ceiling and walls covered with wallpaper with golden patterns. Place a white leather bed with cream pillows and a dark chocolate bedspread in such a room. Place a chocolate leather chair near the windows. Hang translucent cream-colored curtains on the curtain rods.

If you want to use an original color combination in the room, then decorate the walls with blue plaster and the walls with white. Against such a background, peach curtains on a cornice with a white relief strip will stand out interestingly.

Striped curtains combining brown, yellow and blue, as well as a dark chocolate blend with imitation wood and thin white lines, will look no less original on a snow-white background.

How to decorate a ceiling cornice using a hood, see the video below.

Modern curtain rods have quite a variety of configurations and are an interior decoration in themselves. The range of decorative ceiling cornices is presented in many models - with imitation of natural materials, carvings, stucco moldings, inlays, unusual shapes or painting. But, if you want to really decorate the window opening and the entire interior in an original way, then you can always create an individual decoration for the cornice. For this, many materials are used - ribbons, strips, decorative flowers, appliqués and much more. In this article we will talk about different options for original decoration of window space.

10.DECORATION

You can use mirrors or glossy surfaces in the interior of the apartment. A mirror will not only increase the height of the ceiling, but also visually expand the space of the room.

You should not abuse a large number of framed photos, paintings or brought souvenirs on the shelves. They will create a feeling of congestion in the room.

Instead of several small paintings, it is better to choose one larger one. Moreover, it is better to choose a canvas with a vertical rather than horizontal composition. If you do choose several small paintings, hang them slightly above eye level.

painting

The fastest and most budget-friendly option for decorating a cornice is to paint it to match the curtains. This idea is perfect for transforming metal or wooden rods, as well as baguette. To do this, you need to first sand the surface with a fine abrasive so that the paint sticks better and does not peel off. You also need to treat the surface with a primer.

Now you can paint the cornice in the desired color. This can be done with acrylic paints or spray paint. When the main background is set, you can apply the design, by hand or through a stencil. After complete drying, everything is covered with a fixing transparent varnish. This method of decoration allows you not only to complement the interior with a spectacular detail, but also to adjust the geometry of the space. When the cornice and curtains are the same color, it visually makes the room taller.

It is best to paint wooden and plastic baguettes antique or gilded. It’s a great idea to use paints with unusual effects that imitate different textures: craquelure, velor, leather, metallic, mother-of-pearl, etc.

If you are a creative person, then painting provides a wide field for experimentation. And the efforts spent will certainly be rewarded, because such decoration will add original notes to any interior.

Baguette slats

These are thick, solid overlays for cornices from 6 to 13 cm wide, which can be straight or box-shaped with 90° angles. The maximum length of the baguette strip is 4 m.

The straight version is simply a flat strip, which is closed on the sides with end caps. Another option is with sidewalls, the design resembles a stretched letter “P”. There are also baguettes with rounded sides made of soft synthetic material. For bay windows, you can order rotary connections with indirect angles.

Two types of materials are used for manufacturing:

  • Tree . Mostly valuable species. To give the desired shade, the baguette is painted or tinted. In the latter case, the structure of the fibers remains noticeable. Decorative dyeing methods, such as stitching, are also used. To protect against external influences, the wood is varnished. Additionally, wooden baguettes are decorated with a relief pattern, decorated with Swarovski crystals or decorated with aluminum inserts. The design can be laconic or sophisticated, with carved patterns in different styles.
  • Polystyrene . This is a cheaper option. The planks are made by extrusion from foamed polystyrene. The material can be given any shape, thanks to which it can be successfully used to imitate other textures - gypsum stucco, wood or stone. Polystyrene is light and durable, does not emit harmful substances and is resistant to moisture.

The models are very diverse in appearance. Baguettes can be smooth in cross-section, concave or convex with different wall thicknesses. The surface is smooth, textured or covered with relief patterns (in whole or in part). The bottom edge is straight, wavy or other complex shape.

The color range includes many shades, from white to black. Various effects are used, for example, aging using patination, applying decorative cracks, painting with gold or silver (the entire plank or only protruding elements). Sometimes moldings are added - narrow strips with a metal coating.

The design is selected taking into account the characteristics of the room. For small, low rooms, use narrow planks that do not take away the height. For spacious living rooms, wide baguettes are suitable that will not get lost in the general background. The color and style must match the interior.

Advice! For plain curtains, it is better to choose overlays with an interesting appearance: carved, multi-colored, with inlays, etc. And with a large pattern or complex design, simple models are more suitable.

Baguette decorative strips are attached in several ways. Some models have an adapter - a groove into which the tire is inserted (like a flexible plastic pad). Another option is to mount it on the wall or ceiling using brackets. In other cases, the overlay is installed on a plywood base, and the cornice is screwed to it, this adds rigidity to the structure. Baguettes are joined at an angle of 45° or equipped with corner inserts.

When purchasing, you need to pay attention to the quality of the joints; the parts must fit tightly to each other without gaps or backlash.

Important! When installing a ceiling cornice, you need to step back from the wall at a distance slightly greater than the window sill and radiator occupy. Otherwise, the curtain will break, and this will look ugly.

Ready-made aluminum curtain rods are also sold. They are a one-piece structure with a baguette strip and curtain rails. The surface is painted in different colors, including noble metals, decorated with moldings and gilding. The shape is made straight or curved. Such models are installed on brackets or attached directly to the ceiling.

Decorative ribbons

Flexible plastic hoods are often used to decorate ceiling cornices. They are produced in the form of thin strips of PVC with a width of 5, 7 and 10 cm. The length is cut to the size of the cornice. Such products follow the contours of the profile, straight or with rounded ends.

The design of decorative tapes for ceiling cornices is quite diverse. There are blends with a smooth and textured surface, white, colored, and with patterns. They imitate the textures of more expensive materials: leather, wood, thin stucco, metal. The surface is shiny or matte, sometimes aged (as if covered with cracks or patina). On some models, an imitation of a metal insert is made.

To attach the decorative tape to the profile, there is a special groove on the back of the lining into which the side of the ceiling rail is inserted. Then the hood is worn along its entire length.

If there are rotating elements, first the tape is fixed to a straight bar, and then the corner parts are connected. Long cornices are assembled from several components, but the decorative tape is installed in one piece.

The mounts for lens hoods are standard, so you just need to choose the option you like. Some products are immediately sold complete with a decorative strip. All structural elements, including the overlay, are assembled before installation and only then the cornice is attached to the ceiling.

Attention! Not all models of ceiling cornices have the ability to attach a hood. If there is no edge on the front side of the profile, you can try to secure the decor with double-sided tape. But this method is less reliable and is only suitable for light, thin linings.

Sometimes a problem arises: it is not possible to put the hood on the ceiling cornice, as it fits very tightly. Then the tape is laid out on the floor with the wrong side up and pressed with a weight along its entire length. The cornice is placed against the hole and they begin to carefully hammer it in with a rubber mallet. If there is no such tool, take a regular hammer and place something soft under the impact site so as not to damage the plastic profile.

Another option is a curtain rod made of fabric with an openwork pattern. It consists of two layers: a dense base and decorative material. The latter is used as curtain fabric (smooth with shine or matte velvety).

The hoods are decorated with carved patterns made on a laser machine, thanks to which the design can contain even very small details. This option looks quite elegant and stylish.

The fabric decorative strip is attached directly to the cornice using adhesive tape, which is included in the kit. Remove the protective film from the self-adhesive base and attach the adhesive tape to the outer part of the profile. Then you just need to apply and press down the decorative trim a little.

Thanks to the composition, the fabric straightens out immediately without forming folds, creases or curled edges. And due to its light weight, the lens hood holds securely and does not sag.

Such tapes are produced in widths of 15 or 20 cm, the length is unlimited. Various patterns and more than 20 colors are available for sale. It is possible to manufacture to order according to a sketch drawn by hand and even from customer materials. Thanks to this, the decor will suit any interior style. Additionally, you can purchase curtain tiebacks in the same theme and color as the curtain rod.

Attention! Fabric hoods cannot be washed. They are vacuumed or brushed with a damp sponge, and if the dirt cannot be removed, they are sent to dry cleaning. To straighten the folds later, iron them, but only from the front side.

Installation on a suspended ceiling

In the case of a suspended ceiling, the ceiling cornice can only be secured to a pre-installed embedded beam. It is secured before the fabric is stretched. When fastening, use wood screws and attach them directly to the beam through the ceiling sheet.

How to attach a ceiling cornice to a suspended ceiling

The second option is a niche for installing a cornice, but this is also made during the installation of the ceiling and not later. In this case, there is also a wooden beam, but a guide for the stretch ceiling is attached to it.

Attaching a ceiling cornice in a stretch ceiling niche

There are no options for installation on a ready-made stretch ceiling. There is, however, a compromise - mounting to the wall with brackets right under the ceiling. There is a gap to the ceiling, but it is small and not too noticeable.

Blends for curtain rods: what are they and what are they for?

Quite often today you can hear such an unusual word as blend. It is usually used when it comes to curtains and cornices. In this regard, many questions often arise. What are they and what are they for? We will answer this question and a number of others in this article.

Required Tools

With a single-color decorative overlay.
Installing any: three-row, two-row or single-row is quite simple. First of all, everything needs to be correctly calculated and laid out. This is usually done at the stage of planning and preparation of upcoming work.

All you need next is:

  • selected model;
  • drill;
  • 2 drills of different diameters;
  • fasteners;
  • knife or file (you can use a jigsaw)
  • pencil, square and tape measure.

How to choose?

If you want to transform the decor with such an interesting detail, then it is better to approach its selection as seriously as possible, otherwise the cornice will look inharmonious in the interior. At the initial stage, you should look at the lens hood, based on the width of the area provided for it on the curtain. If you skip this point, the composition will be strange and ridiculous.

Be sure to consider the size of the room and the dimensions of the window opening. For example, in small spaces and on small cornices, large and high-quality planks, complemented with artificial stones and rhinestones, will look bad. This is why it is so important to select blends based on the interior and area of the room. When you want to add a beautiful plank with a pattern to your room, you need to ensure that its motif and color fit into the concept of the decor.

How to hang curtains on a ceiling cornice

The ceiling cornice has hooks or runners for hanging curtains. Each type of profile has its own, but they come in different heights.

It is necessary to select hooks/runners according to the type of profile

Now about the difference between hooks and runners. The runners have small wheels. They are more expensive, but the curtains move much easier. To save money, you can take hooks for tulle (we move it very rarely) and runners for drapes (curtains).

Types of hooks for ceiling cornices

To hang curtains on a ceiling cornice, a special ribbon is sewn to the top of the curtain. It helps to form folds of the required size. This ribbon has a strip that can be used as loops. This is where the hooks are attached.

Curtain tape and hooks on it

There is another option - to make the loops by hand, but then the folds will have to be laid and sewn up by hand. This option will have to be used if you need to lay not standard folds, but with some special pattern.

There are two ways to hang curtains on a ceiling cornice:

  • Secure the hooks to the tape, and then tuck them one by one into the desired groove on the profile. Then install the stopper, then the plug.
  • The second method is to first insert the required number of hooks/runners into the groove, install a stopper and a plug. Then put loops on the hooks.

Installing the locking screw. Then you need to put a plug

The first option is physically simpler, but the second option is more often done. When you remove the hooks for washing, they may get lost, or you may make a mistake in the order in which they are installed. In general, it is not so important how exactly you hang the curtains on the ceiling cornice. The choice is yours. And finally, a small life hack on how to make it easier to put loops on hooks. This is a tedious and difficult task that irritates many.

Installing a ceiling cornice depends on what kind of cornice you want to install. And what kind of cornice you will mount depends on what and how you will hang on it. The choice of curtain rod depends on the density of the fabric from which the curtains will be sewn, and on the number of rows of curtains.

There can be four rows:

  1. Tulle.
  2. Blackout curtains.
  3. Decorative curtains.
  4. Lambrequin.

The most common ceiling cornices currently exist in two types: string and plastic.

String curtains usually have two strings and are used for curtains made of light fabrics.

Plastic cornices are manufactured in one-, two-, three- and four-row forms. And they allow you to more freely decide on the choice of fabrics for curtains.

Varieties

There are several criteria by which blends are divided into types. First of all, this concerns the external coloring of this element:

  1. Classic white color. Such blends are considered the most universal, because they are suitable for curtains and curtain rods of absolutely any color and texture.
  2. Imitating natural leather, wood or any other natural materials.
  3. Any monogamous color. The most common colors here are all shades of brown and gray, black, maroon and green. Such blends are usually selected either in the same color scheme as the curtains, or, conversely, in complete contrast with it.
  4. Having additional decoration in the form of stucco, sparkles or rhinestones. Such blends are very popular in the avant-garde style, as well as the Baroque style.
  5. Having a molding, that is, a special insert that usually imitates some kind of expensive metal.

An equally important criterion for separation is the material used to make such a cornice accessory. Typically, hoods are made of plastic, because this material is quite flexible and durable, and durable.

But modern manufacturers today also produce metal-plastic hoods, which are more durable and suitable for large curtain rods. Unfortunately, such blends are very difficult to find in Russia today.

Installation of ceiling cornice

Ceiling cornice is suitable for more interiors than wall cornice. This is due to the low ceiling heights in old houses, as well as the predominant choice of suspended ceilings. Cornices attached to the ceiling vary in type and are often complemented with decorative elements.

Selection tips

If you plan to transform the interior design, then it is recommended to approach the process of choosing planks as responsibly as possible, since otherwise the ceiling cornice will look unnatural and there will be no harmony with the overall style. There are several features to consider during the selection process:

  1. Width. Before you start choosing a decorative element, you should measure the width of the area that is intended for fastening. If this point is not taken into account immediately, the composition will take on an absurd appearance.
  2. Footage of the room, dimensions of the window opening. For example, for small cornices you should not install large strips or hoods with additional decorative elements.
  3. Style. Since there are a large number of planks on sale, it is worth considering that the pattern must match the design of the room.

A decorative blend is a design intended exclusively for ceiling cornices made of metal or plastic. For this reason, it is not recommended to try to attach the bar to another mount.

Installing the cornice

To easily install a curtain rod alone, you need to start not from the outermost fastening, but from the second or third from the edge. Because, no matter how tightly the self-tapping screw and dowel sit in the outer socket, the weight of the cornice and the large shoulder create a load quite sufficient to tear the fastener out of the socket. By screwing the self-tapping screw into the second or third socket, you reduce the shoulders, and with them the load.

After this, you can safely tighten the remaining screws and admire the cornice installed in place.

In the case of a string cornice, you need to drill two sockets on both sides of the window, screw the brackets, insert and tension the strings. If the span is large enough - three meters or more - then in the middle you need to mount the included W-shaped bracket to support the strings. Then they will not sag along the entire length.

Figures and accessories

A rather extraordinary idea for decorating a ceiling cornice is to attach various figures or toys to it. Butterflies, birds, dragonflies, and bees look impressive. The choice of such accessories is quite extensive, including various animals, dancers, and fairy-tale characters.

p, blockquote 28,0,0,0,0 —>

Such accessories can be purchased ready-made or made yourself by cutting them out of cardboard or stringing them from beads, etc. Creative people will find many ways to create such decor on their own.

p, blockquote 29,0,0,0,1 —>

Creating cornice decor is a fascinating and creative process. Here you can purchase ready-made options or show your creativity. The main thing is not to overdo it, there should not be too much decor. It is important to consider color compatibility, cornice size, and ceiling height. If the room is low, you should not use too elaborate and voluminous decoration; it is better to choose a color that matches the curtains to visually make the room taller. In rooms with high ceilings there is more space for experimentation.

Reviews and comments

When I first installed the cornice alone, I thought that nothing “good” would come of this idea. And so it turned out - I installed nothing alone until I came across this article and then, following the instructions, everything worked out for me. Tell me, is it bad manners that I installed a string cornice in one room and a plastic one in the other? Does this fact go against good taste?

Ceiling cornices are a great option for small apartments with an older layout, because their ceilings are not as high as we would like. Using a curtain rod, you can attach the curtain directly to the ceiling, which will visually increase the height of the room. Moreover, this type of cornice will allow you not to worry that the weight of the curtains will ruin the ceiling, even if the ceiling is finished with plasterboard.

Ceiling cornices have many advantages.

  • First of all, they are inexpensive.
  • Secondly, the quality of the material is in no way inferior to other types of curtain rods.
  • Thirdly, they are moisture resistant, which gives them an additional advantage compared to wooden cornices.
  • Fourthly, they are easy to clean and wipe off dust with a regular damp cloth.

Purpose and features

Nowadays, you can easily create a harmonious interior in any way. To do this, you need to correctly select all the components of the situation. You can emphasize a particular style of the room with the help of beautiful cornices. You can add brighter colors to their design using a blend. The main purpose of these additions is to decorate the front part of the ceiling cornice.

Moreover, such inserts can well hide the unsightly hooks to which the curtains are attached. These decorative strips are present today on many profile cornices made of plastic and aluminum. As a rule, the hood is a thin plastic strip, trimmed on the outside with various materials. Such elements are equipped with special fasteners with which they are attached directly to the cornice.

Ready-made options with photos

The result obtained directly depends on the idea. The above describes the standard installation option, which can be varied at your discretion. Below (pictured) are bold solutions, but at the same time difficult to implement. Therefore, if you do not have confidence in your own abilities, it is better to entrust the work to professionals.
