Painting a plastic window and laminating: 2 ways to change the appearance of frames
Table of Contents
Of course, you can order new windows or hire a special team, but both of these options are expensive, and not everyone has the money for this. Therefore, more and more craftsmen are looking for ways to change the color of windows on their own, without involving specialists.
There are 2 ways to change the appearance of frames:
- lamination, that is, a special film is applied to the profile that imitates some kind of texture (most often wood);
- painting - 1-2 layers of paint are applied to the frames.
Lamination
For this procedure, laminated film is used. It is glued with special glue. At first glance, everything is simple: you need to glue the film to the frames. However, the glue requires certain conditions and heating. In order for the film to fit tightly to the profile, it is necessary to press and smooth it well. In production, a machine with pressure rollers is used for this. At home, it is unlikely that you will be able to properly glue the film onto plastic yourself. Again, the frames must be removed to laminate. With sashes this is still possible, but the frames themselves will remain white.
An alternative option is to use self-adhesive film. Of course, it is difficult to call this a full-fledged process. But it will be quite possible to change the appearance of the windows. This work is also not easy and will require considerable endurance and accuracy.
Window painting
It is much easier and cheaper to paint the windows. This process is much faster. However, everything must be done correctly. Simple oil, acrylic or other paint is not suitable for painting plastic windows: it will run off, resulting in an unattractive coating. You only need to use a plastic product: they have added special substances that provide high adhesion, protection from solar radiation and resistance to precipitation. As a rule, such paint is sold in spray cans.
The windows must first be cleaned of dirt and, if necessary, washed and dried. Double-glazed windows must be protected in some way from contact with coloring compounds. The simplest thing is to cover it with paper or masking tape. The profiles are then treated with a plastic primer. The composition allows the product to adhere to PVC surfaces (including vertical ones). The primer is also often sold in aerosol form. This is the most convenient format for working with windows.
After the primer has dried, the frames are painted with spray paint. The composition is applied in 2 layers. First one. It is dried well, and then the second one. Otherwise, the old color will show through the new one. Unfortunately, after a few years the paint will fade and you will have to repeat the procedure again. This is a natural process of paint aging.
Therefore, before you start painting or laminating, you must first consider the extent to which such changes are necessary, since both paint and film begin to fly off over time. And they will have to be changed and refreshed again and again.
Recommendations from the experts
For high-quality painting of PVC windows, as well as increasing the convenience of working in synthesis while reducing the danger to your own health, follow these instructions:
- Choose ready-made paints that do not require additional manipulations, for example, the independent addition of pigments and additional regulatory substances;
- Correctly calculate paint consumption by taking preliminary measurements and specifying the direct consumption of material per 1 square meter;
- Prepare the work site, as well as the windows themselves;
- Try yourself, experiment with working with a spray gun, as well as applying paint to any surface;
- Carry out a test on plastic, on an old window or the least visible part of the frame to be painted, and check the effect after drying;
- Be sure to protect exposed skin, eyes and respiratory organs during the painting process, and work outdoors or in ventilated areas!
Changing the color of plastic windows with paint is not the easiest process, especially for a home craftsman who for the first time decided to make changes to his own interior in this way. But any business requires attention and effort, and most importantly, your desire. And if you intend to get the job done and are focused on a positive result, you will definitely succeed in painting plastic windows!
What is lamination?
Wooden windows made by highly qualified specialists look respectable. It is immediately obvious that the owner of the house is a thorough person. What if it didn’t turn out wooden, but you really want it to be solid? This is where a process called lamination comes in handy. In short:
- A layer of glue heated to a high temperature is applied to the window profile, and a multilayer acrylic film is placed on top of it. Then, using special equipment that has special rollers that follow the profile of the window, the film is pressed against the surface to be coated. This requires a lot of effort. When the glue cools, the film cannot be separated from the profile. It lasts quite a long time, up to 20 years;
- the film reproduces both the shades and structure of wood;
- In addition, films are produced in a variety of other colors. This is especially true for a nursery, because the window there can be made blue, red, green or another bright, cheerful color.
Equipment for the procedure
If you are interested in laminating plastic windows with your own hands, acrylic film of the selected color in the right quantity is not the only thing worth purchasing. The procedure requires the use of special equipment. To fasten the film and profile, you will need a tool with rollers that follow the shape of the surface. Using it, you will need to forcefully press the acrylic onto the frame with glue.
In general, laminating plastic windows with your own hands requires care and a serious approach. It is better to start it with experience or at least having familiarized yourself with detailed visual master classes on gluing film and profile. And keep in mind that laminating an already installed window is an impossible mission. If you do not order products with an already finished surface, you can carry out the procedure only until the products have been installed.
Types of lamination
Windows are laminated in several ways:
- only outside. Inside, the window is white or another color, and from the street, for example, a tree. Most often, such windows are installed in country houses and cottages;
- lamination on one side, but inside. In order not to disturb the general style of the facade of an apartment building, the outside of the window remains in its original form, and the inside is any color you wish;
- lamination on both sides. Such windows are in offices, but not only - they are often ordered by owners of cottages and private houses.
Window lamination film has a number of advantages:
it is almost impossible to separate it from the surface on which it is applied, as well as to be scratched or otherwise damaged mechanically;
- Having high resistance to temperature influences, it also protects the window profile from them;
- has high moisture resistance;
- not exposed to ultraviolet rays;
- has a rich range of colors, so you can choose any colors for window lamination;
- gives windows an exclusive, aesthetic look.

Film composition
The film for window lamination has the following structure:
- it contains several layers. They are so thin that their total thickness is only 0.2 mm;
- its tone depends on the color of the base, i.e. acrylic substance. In addition to its decorative purpose, this base protects the window profile from overheating;
- The top layer of the film is transparent. It consists of synthetic crystalline polymers polymethylacrylate and polyvinylidene fluoride. It is this layer that creates gloss and resists adverse weather conditions;
- The image of wood on film looks very natural down to the smallest veins. It is difficult to distinguish from the real one not only visually, but also by touch.
Renolit film, which is produced in Germany, is highly reliable:
- has embossed layers, where the lower semi-solid one consists of 2-component polyurethane glue. Includes a layer colored with stable pigments;
- it is applied to the PVC profile at a temperature not lower than 125 degrees C, which ensures the fusion of the film with the surface of the window at the molecular level;
- imitates the natural structure of wood. Comes in green, red, blue and other colors;
- several years ago the company began producing self-adhesive film, which can be used to repair damaged laminated surfaces.
- Contact with organic solvents is contraindicated.
Lamination process in production
The process of laminating windows with film is quite complex and in production conditions consists of several stages:
- Plastic is thoroughly cleaned with special cleaning solutions containing alkali.
- After complete drying, a primer is applied to the surface, which contains glue and solvent. This is necessary for better adhesion of materials. Allow 24 hours for the primer to dry.
- The profile is placed in a special chamber, where it is heated at a temperature of 130 °C. An adhesive composition is applied to the film using a squeegee unit, after which it is fixed to the frame.
- Next, the product is placed in a drying zone, where special rollers level the surface and remove all air bubbles.
- After this, the product is kept in another chamber for two weeks for shrinkage.
- After some time, the design is tested for peeling off the film, after which it is delivered to the consumer.
Lamination process in production
To perform an arched structure, it is necessary to bend the profile, for which you wait 28 days from the date of lamination. Not only frames, but also glass can be laminated. A special tinting film glued to the outside of the windows perfectly protects the room from the bright sun.
To apply lamination on PVC surfaces, 2 adhesive structures are usually used.
- Glue brand “Augsklei 60” based on polyurethane. Used together with the hardener “Augsklei Hardener 60” using the mixing method in a ratio of 1:25. Hot melt adhesive is an adhesive system and in its composition has a dry residue size of 100%.
As a result of cooling, the glue quickly sets and forms a durable polymer mesh with moisture-resistant properties.
The technology for laminating window sills using polyurethane glue contains certain deadlines:
- holding time until the material melts – 45 hours;
- the time required for ripening in winter conditions is 70 hours;
- readiness before bending the window sill profile – 13 days;
- the period required for final hardening of the product is 60 days.
Rice. 3. Glue system for lamination
The product has excellent adhesion, a neutral attitude towards ultraviolet rays, and also tolerates plus and minus temperatures well.
Due to its characteristics, you can glue both the inner surface of the window sill and the outer surface. Solvent-free adhesives have become increasingly popular in recent years and are occupying the market at an accelerated pace.
2. Polyester based adhesive. This boostilate has been a leader in this technology for about 25 years. Gluing the film onto a PVC surface is successfully done using liquefied adhesive based on polyester.
2-7% of hardener and binders are added to it. This mixture is stirred vigorously, while preventing the entry of foreign particles. Then wait for the time specified by the manufacturer in the recipe.
The container with glue must be stored closed, and if boostilate remains, it must be destroyed in accordance with environmental regulations. Short-term storage of up to a day in the refrigerator at a temperature of 4 – 7˚С is allowed.
Rice. 4. Adhesive lamination system for window sills
Advantages and disadvantages of adhesive systems
Each composition has pros and cons, so their properties need to be considered separately.
Two-component polyurethane-based adhesive
This boostilate has certain advantages:
- Versatility. This adhesive composition can connect up to 90% of the components of a solid material;
- Strength. Connected parts can be processed as one unit;
- Lack of connecting seam after gluing;
- Budget cost. The price of the glue is quite reasonable.
The disadvantages include its one-time use. After mixing the components, the glue retains its qualities for a short time from one to six hours. And also when working with this glue you need to follow safety precautions, wear gloves and use a respirator.
Rice. 5. Polyurethane glue
Polyester based adhesive
Resin of this content is formed during the distillation of alcoholic liquids for special purposes. The source of glue is polyester. For faster hardening, different brands of solvents are used.
Depending on the area of application of the material, it has different structures and qualities. The main advantage of this glue is its ability to transmit ultraviolet rays (up to 90%).
Compounds of this kind form high-strength materials and are used in the production of window sills, shower cabins, and various partitions.
Hardening of polyester resin does not require special temperature conditions; the cost of this adhesive composition is less than its analogues, for example, epoxy resin.

Lamination of installed windows
Any specialist will tell you that it is impossible to laminate installed windows. Unless someone wants to dismantle the window, subject it to lamination, and then reinstall it. This is hardly possible, because it will be cheaper to order a ready-made laminated plastic window. But there is still a way out even from such a situation.
Self-adhesive film oracal
The German company ORACAL produces self-adhesive film under the same name. It is mainly used for window dressing, exhibition stands, and cars. Some craftsmen use this film to laminate PVC windows with their own hands. This can only be called lamination conditionally, but as an option, if there is no other option, it can be used. So, you will need a tool:
- squeegee or suitable available tool;
- spray. You can replace it with an empty detergent bottle;
- sharp stationery knife;
- metal ruler;
- hairdryer
- oracal film with a textured surface of the desired color;
- liquid soap.
You can get started:
- Let's prepare the surface. We will remove dirt using special detergents. Degrease with alcohol. We make sure that there are no lints left anywhere;
- prepare a soap solution. Dissolve liquid soap in water in a ratio of 1:10. If you have an incomplete bottle of Mister Muscle, just add water to it - you won’t even need to pour it into a spray bottle;
- marking the material;
- Applying a metal ruler to the marking, cut off the film with a sharp knife, leaving a margin of 20-30 mm;
- moisten the profile generously with the prepared soap solution;
- It’s difficult to work further on your own; you definitely need an assistant to simultaneously peel off the backing and wet the adhesive base of the film;
- to avoid the material sticking together, one person holds the film without a backing, and with the other left hand pulls out the backing, and with the right hand wets the base that will be glued;
- Press the film onto the surface. Avoid the formation of folds and ensure that the overlap is evenly distributed on both sides. Now you can move it as you like, and if you need to correct it, you can disconnect it;
- now one holds the material, and the second uses a squeegee to drive the liquid from the center to the edges;
- fold the self-adhesive along the sides, and carefully cut in the corners and fold them too;
- the folds are poorly glued, so take a hairdryer and warm them up;
- One side of the profile is decorated, we do the same with the second.
Note: this technology can be used to laminate wooden windows. Just don’t forget to putty them first, sand the surface and prime them.
How to laminate a PVC window with your own hands
Laminated windows allow you to give your home an individual, unique look. This method of decoration is convenient and practical. There are many companies offering their services in this direction. Is it possible to laminate windows yourself? This article is devoted to this topic.

When they talk about laminating windows with their own hands, they mean not only profiles, but also glass improvement:
- By gluing a sun protection film onto the glass, they protect the room from ultraviolet radiation. If you take a mirror film, then through the window from the street it is impossible not to see anything in the room, but from the room everything is perfectly visible;
- By laminating the glass with energy-saving film, we will prevent heat loss in winter, and in summer hot air from the street will not penetrate into the room;
- By gluing an anti-vandal film, we will make the glass resistant to impacts, which means we will protect ourselves from thieves.
Plastic windows have deservedly gained their leading position in the market. However, most plastic systems are made in a standard white color and may not match the interior. You can correct the situation by making plastic windows that look like wood. You can, of course, order natural wooden double-glazed windows, but this will cost much more. So, how to give window profiles the look of wood?
Plastic windows laminated to resemble wood are no different in their properties from the standard profile. They are also airtight and retain heat well.
The properties of a window laminated to look like wood are the same as that of a regular one.
The only difference is the appearance: wood stylization due to the application of a special film to the surface. What does this give as a result?
- Laminated windows simplify the design of a room, as you can choose the color and texture to match the overall style of the rooms.
- The natural appearance of window frames is very difficult to distinguish from more expensive natural analogues. Moreover, all properties are preserved without any changes.
- Lamination film will provide additional protection to window profiles. It perfectly withstands many influences (sunlight, temperature, humidity and others) .
- Long service life: the film will not crack or lose its appearance even after many years. Moreover, unlike the white profile, which can turn yellow, this coating retains its color.
- The material used to laminate window profiles does not emit toxic substances that can harm the health of others.
The laminated profile is available in a wide range of shades that imitate wood.
By placing an order for modern plastic windows with wood lamination, you save money while receiving a high-quality product that imitates natural material.
There are several types of window lamination, the classification of which depends on the degree of profile coverage, and this also affects the cost.
Single-sided lamination. Most often used to style a window. The inside of the glass unit is decorated under a wooden profile to create the overall design of the room. The outside street side remains white. This type of lamination makes sense to use in multi-storey buildings, when the design of the facade at height is not so important.
Street one-sided lamination. This is also a one-sided design type. When plastic wood-look windows are made on the street side. This type of lamination can be used in a private home, which will simplify the design of the facade of the house.
Single-sided lamination is used in multi-storey buildings, double-sided - in private
Double lamination. This is a more expensive type of design, as it requires applying a wooden texture on both sides. You can also order lamination that differs from different sides (for example, on the street it looks like oak, and in the house it looks like mahogany).
Color profile. This type of window frame design does not have a texture structure. But at the same time, from a distance, such windows will look like wood.
An order for windows stylized as wood will cost more than regular white ones, as the production process becomes more complicated. The finished frame looks very natural, while maintaining all the properties of a plastic window.
Laminated PVC windows are more expensive than regular ones
When ordering lamination with a wooden texture, it is important to ensure the integrity of the entire structure: all fittings and handles must also be painted in the same style.
There are many options for film that can be used to decorate wood-like surfaces. But, unfortunately, it will not be possible to implement such technology independently in everyday conditions. Perhaps something will come of it, but how high quality this type of lamination will be is a rather controversial issue. How is the technological process of imparting a wooden texture to a plastic window frame carried out?
To increase adhesion, the profile surface is first primed
Initially, the entire surface to be coated is treated with a special primer mixture, which will ensure reliable bonding of the plastic to the laminating film.
The next step is direct coating of the profile surface using industrial equipment. In this case, two types of adhesives are used: polyester and polyurethane.
After this, the frames are rolled on special rollers, which smooth and level the surfaces.
The result of this technology is a high-quality product made from a firmly adhered film, which will ensure a long service life.
It is impossible to laminate a window profile yourself
But what to do if the windows are already installed, but you want to change the design style? To do this, you can use the technology of painting profiles, which is quite accessible to everyone.
First, select paint for plastic surfaces. Four types of colors are best suited for these purposes:
- Paints for plastic surfaces.
- Acrylic varnishes.
- Automotive enamels.
- Nitro paints.
The first three options are best suited; such dyes are designed for various effects and will not require constant updating.
It is worth considering that most modern paints are sold in one color – white. The desired shade is obtained by adding a special dye . For the required color, the paint is diluted by mixing with the color. How it will look can be checked experimentally by making a smear on any surface.
For uniform application, use a spray gun or spray gun; in this case, the paint material lays down evenly without any special smudges or changes in shade.
To ensure uniform coloring, it is necessary to use a spray bottle
Painting begins with preparatory work. It is best to remove the window sashes from the frames; this is done by knocking out the pin from the top hinge and removing the window from the structure.
The surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned of dirt, and the protective film must also be removed (if it remains on the frame). The entire area must be degreased using a solvent.
In order not to dismantle the double-glazed windows, the glass must be covered with a protective film, which is secured with masking tape.
After this, they begin painting. If windows are painted manually with brushes, you need to do several approaches. And it is imperative to even out the color, avoiding smudges on the surface.
Imitating a PVC window to look like wood using paint will cost much less than installing laminated structures
To quickly remove unwanted stains, you need to have a solvent on hand with a rag.
It is imperative to observe temperature conditions when painting windows. In most cases, they are indicated on the packaging with the color. Modern paints, as a rule, are based on water and their use at low temperatures will lead to rapid deterioration of the surface.
Such windows will dry out within a few hours, after which all dismantled sashes will be returned to their place.
Painting windows will make plastic window systems stylish and unusual, but it will not be possible to achieve complete resemblance to a wooden surface. The best way to imitate wood is to order laminated surfaces.
Window glass lamination
When they talk about laminating windows with their own hands, they mean not only profiles, but also glass improvement:
- By gluing a sun protection film onto the glass, they protect the room from ultraviolet radiation. If you take a mirror film, then through the window from the street it is impossible not to see anything in the room, but from the room everything is perfectly visible;
- By laminating the glass with energy-saving film, we will prevent heat loss in winter, and in summer hot air from the street will not penetrate into the room;
- By gluing an anti-vandal film, we will make the glass resistant to impacts, which means we will protect ourselves from thieves.
Color solutions in lamination
To enhance a window, customers often choose options with imitation wood textures. This approach will look advantageous in a room where a lot of wood is used in the interior. And in general, the wood-look profile fits well into any room. If you laminate windows yourself from the outside, then such a frame will look especially good in a wooden house and cottage. But don't be afraid to experiment with other options. Do-it-yourself lamination of plastic windows will also refresh a brick structure.
- Among the shades of wood, buyers of acrylic film are often offered imitation oak - it can be light, dark, rustic, golden, natural.
- Wood textures also include mountain pine, black cherry, and brown chestnut.
- There may be more exotic options, such as makore or shogun.
However, the color palette does not end with the variety of wood shades. If you are interested in laminating PVC windows yourself, you can purchase film from one of dozens of less “natural” options. Available in blue, green, yellow, red and other colors. Moreover, here there is no less variety of shades, as in the case of wood ones. So, one individual gray can be signal, balsate, or quartz.
Lamination is an inexpensive way to decorate windows
Lamination technology has solved many problems and made beautiful windows more accessible to a wide range of buyers. Lamination of PVC windows with films is allowed in the manufacture of all popular models, including designs with a radius shape. Thanks to the huge number of decorative films that are used as finishing coatings, the design possibilities of interior decorators have significantly expanded. At the same time, laminated windows are in no way inferior to similar models made of white or body-dyed profiles.
Visibility of damage to laminated windows
Laminating decorative film on a PVC window is a priori not a very reliable thing. If the lamination is applied according to technology and in the right factory conditions, then during operation the possibility of its damage is small.
Excerpt from the advertising brochure: ... lamination film has a multi-layer structure, due to which it effectively resists the harmful effects of precipitation, ultraviolet radiation and even physical damage, ensuring ease of maintenance...
Pros and cons of window lamination
The main advantage that window lamination provides is the ability to create a reliable imitation of products made from natural wood. Since the film can be applied to profiles on both the street or room side, or simultaneously on both surfaces, buyers optimize their costs and easily choose the most suitable design option for sashes and frames.
An important advantage is the ability to adapt windows to any facade decoration and individual interior style. The laminated profile looks incredibly impressive together with colored slope systems, which are covered in a separate review on OknaTrade.
The disadvantages of this technology sometimes include the rise in price of the profile after applying the decorative film. However, this is a conditional disadvantage, since in such a situation the cost of lamination is the minimum possible price for solving serious problems. The real disadvantages include:
- the appearance of white areas when the valves are opened on their internal ribs, if the profile is not colored in the mass;
- increasing the production time of products;
- the existence of a minimal probability of a violation of the film application technology, which will appear only a few months/years after installation of the windows.
When cutting a laminated profile, white stripes appear at the corner joints of frames and sashes; special markers are used to disguise them. This phenomenon can be avoided by using a profile painted in the mass that is as close in color as possible. However, this method leads to a significant increase in the cost of products. In addition, the limited number of colors of such profiles still forces the use of markers when combined with many films.
What is lamination technology
Window lamination in its essence is nothing more than applying decorative PVC film to the surface of the base profile. In order for this film to reliably adhere to the entire service life of the plastic windows, the surface of the profile must be pre-cleaned and degreased, and then thoroughly dried. Only after this a special composition is applied to the products - a primer, which is a mixture of a solvent and laminating adhesive. It is important to maintain the proportion when mixing - it should be 1:11.

The glue itself is applied to the inside of the decorative film. During this process, it is necessary to maintain the same thickness - it should not exceed 80 microns, the optimal range is 50-75 microns. Moreover, the maximum strength of the connection is ensured with a minimum thickness of the adhesive layer. The film with applied glue is literally pressed into the surface of the profile using special pressure rollers in a machine under pressure. The high temperature at which the lamination procedure is performed improves the strength of the connection - for this, the profile and film are preheated. The process of applying a decorative coating is completed by trimming the film and cleaning its edges.
Types of films for window lamination
When windows are laminated, the colors and textures of the films can be very different. Today, manufacturers most actively use wood-like coatings with embossing. Also, for profile finishing, films are sometimes chosen in unicolor or with fancy decors. In addition, there are quite a lot of price offers on the market at the moment. There are cheap decor and expensive ones, and such products have fundamental differences. Some manufacturers save on special stabilizing additives that allow the film to:
- maintain elasticity at low temperatures;
- reflect UF rays;
- do not melt in the sun;
- maintain the structure of the material and rich color.
These stabilizers are quite expensive, and the average buyer will only be able to detect their absence during operation, when problems arise with the decorative layer. As a result, unscrupulous manufacturers are always tempted to skimp on quality when purchasing materials. It is due to this that they manage to attract customers at a lower cost compared to the price at which most responsible companies perform high-quality lamination of plastic windows. Find out how to avoid cooperation with such scammers in the special material on OknaTrade.
Material selection
The quality and durability of the coating directly depends on the properties of the material . To decorate the frame of a plastic window, it is necessary to take special compounds that fully comply with the list of requirements.

There are special paints for application to PVC profiles. They meet the requirements for the following compositions:
- Persistence . This is especially true for painting the frame on the street side. The material must withstand the effects of temperature, moisture and solar radiation.
- Optimal viscosity . This means that at the time of application the paint should lie perfectly flat. There should be no accumulation in one place, uncolored spots or drips.
- Fast drying and setting . This is very important outdoors so that dust and debris do not stick to the freshly painted profile.
- Environmental friendliness . It is important that no harmful substances are released from the surface.
All of the above requirements are met:
- Water-based polyurethane acrylic paint . It is most suitable for painting PVC profiles to look like wood. In addition, the composition allows for independent tinting.
- Acrylic varnish is a material for finishing the profile. Easy to apply with a brush, but has temperature restrictions. To work with it you need a temperature of +18° and above.
These are the basic materials. There are several other options that can be used to design a window profile:
- Auto enamel . Sold in cans, sprayed onto the frame, dries quickly.
- Nitro paint . Requires mandatory use of personal protective equipment.
It is important to purchase materials from trusted manufacturers.
For lamination
The technology requires the presence of a special film . This is a multi-layer film coating with a top layer of resistant paint. It consists of two layers of film - the bottom and acrylic, connected by the constraint method.
Total thickness 0.2 mm, width from 660 mm to 1320 mm. The material is sold in rolls 500 linear meters long. The standard film width is 500 mm.
Requirements for lamination film:
- maintaining elasticity at low temperatures;
- ability to reflect ultraviolet rays and withstand sunlight;
- maintain structure and color regardless of any changes in external conditions.
Attention! The film's resistance to overheating is ensured by the acrylic layer. It is also the basis of color, does not require special care and protects the profile from mechanical scratches.
Recommendations for caring for laminated windows
Since the basis of decorative films is the same polyvinyl chloride that is used in the manufacture of white profiles, laminated windows are cared for according to the same rules as standard models:
- cleaning is done with soft flannel cloths soaked in warm soapy water;
- do not use abrasive powders or aggressive chemical compounds (solvents) under any circumstances;
- use a polish for plastic surfaces with an antistatic effect - it will not only clean the surface and prevent the accumulation of dust, but also give the profile a spectacular shine.
When using laminated models, it is recommended to always have a marker on hand to match the film. It is necessary to periodically “refresh” the camouflage at the joints. If all technologies are followed when applying high-quality film, the service life of such windows does not differ from the durability of basic white models and, depending on the type of profile, is 30-50 years.
Lamination and painting of plastic windows to look like wood

Plastic windows have deservedly gained their leading position in the market. However, most plastic systems are made in a standard white color and may not match the interior. You can correct the situation by making plastic windows that look like wood. You can, of course, order natural wooden double-glazed windows, but this will cost much more. So, how to give window profiles the look of wood?
What is a laminated profile

Types of window lamination
Problems with colored plastic windows
Plastic windows have been widely used for quite some time.
Their installation in our country began more than 20 years ago, not to mention in Europe, where they have been used since the late 50s. And if at first installing PVC windows in your house or apartment was a sign of wealth and high taste - clean, snow-white frames were pleasing to the eye, then soon this product became firmly established in the mass market and lost its exclusivity, and its whiteness and smoothness began to be associated with consumer goods. By the way, the first critics criticized PVC windows precisely for the impossibility of giving them a color at will, or it was just good old carpentry, which could be painted a different color every year. Over time, the industry resolved this aesthetic issue - lamination or lamination technology made it possible to turn plastic windows into colored ones, not only in monochrome, but also with textures that plausibly imitate natural materials. However, color coating has also introduced its own nuances into the operation of plastic window structures, giving rise to difficult questions. Marketers usually keep silent about these issues, but our portal remembers. Today, with the help of technical specialists from VEKA Rus, we will look at the essence of the difficulties that arise, find out the reasons for their occurrence and talk about a new solution, the characteristics of which are many times superior to all currently known technologies for imparting color to PVC windows.
Lamination technique
Colors
Wood-look laminated windows are a good alternative to expensive wooden structures that require special operating conditions and special care.
Of the main films with imitation wood texture, the most popular are: natural, dark and golden oak, and mahogany. Dark oak window lamination looks the same in the photo as it does in real life. You can understand that this is laminated plastic and not wood only by opening the sash and looking at the rebate. Other options for the primary colors of the film look just as natural.
