Anti-cat mesh for the balcony - types and methods of mounting on plastic windows

To protect premises from the penetration of insects during ventilation, modern windows made of metal-plastic profiles are equipped with mosquito nets made of synthetic threads. If there are pets in the room, the likelihood of damage to the mesh covering increases significantly, so many owners install the Anti-Cat mosquito net on plastic windows or window structures made of other materials.

Since more durable materials are used in its production, the Anti-Cat coating is resistant to sharp claws of animals and completely eliminates the possibility of them leaving the premises, leading to falls from high floors and injuries to pets. There are several types of similar cat protection nets made from various materials on the market; studying the properties and features of each type will allow you to choose the best option in terms of quality and cost.

What kind of mesh is this

Like the vast majority of advanced construction technologies and innovative products, the Anti-Cat variety of mosquito net was developed abroad; the leadership in this area belongs to Canada. The canvas stretched over a rectangular frame is made of durable polyester threads 0.8 mm thick with a mesh size of 1.2x1.2 mm. The small size of the product's holes prevents insects from entering the room, and the durable thread cannot be torn by the teeth or claws of pets - this prevents them from falling out of windows or escaping into the street.

In addition to polymer thread, the Anti-Cat mesh can be made of metal; some craftsmen make it themselves, attaching additional protection against cats to the frame of a regular mosquito net.

Mosquito net with Velcro

Good insect protection, especially with high-quality fabric, is not cheap. In addition, for high-quality installation, a specialist is required who will take the correct measurements. Otherwise, the frame of the product will either not fit into the doorway, or there will be gaps that will allow insects into the house.

But you can save significantly if you use a very simple option to protect the exit to the balcony using a mosquito net. We are talking about a Velcro design that you can install yourself. This is the most budget-friendly way that anyone can handle.

Step-by-step process for protecting a doorway:

  • In the store you buy a piece of mosquito net according to the size of the doors, but with a margin. Velcro tape and construction adhesive (transparent) are also purchased;
  • The mesh fabric is cut to the size of the door frame and pieces of tape are cut off;
  • The fluff side of the Velcro is sewn along the edge of the mesh;
  • The part where there are plastic spikes is glued to the door frame.

After the glue has dried, you can use your homemade structure. But it’s better not to bother with sewing, but to find a ready-made fabric of standard sizes in the store.

Installed protection on the balcony door will turn the hot summer into a comfortable time. There will be no need for fumigators and sticky tapes for flies. A large selection of mesh options will allow you to find the one that best suits your budget.

Advantages and distinctive features

“Antikoshka”, unlike similar products, has the following features:

  • Particularly strong threads and design prevent the fabric from being torn by the claws of pets, eliminate its sagging and deformation, it can withstand the weight of a suspended animal weighing 4 kilograms. The service life of a typical product without loss of its physical characteristics reaches 10 years.
  • The material used to make “Antikoshka” is harmless to human and animal health, does not decompose under the influence of ultraviolet radiation, precipitation with the release of harmful substances and foreign odors. 100% environmentally friendly devices are not afraid of exposure to high temperatures and cold air when used in winter, the network is not subject to icing.

Rice. 2 Design of aluminum “Anti-cat”

  • The mesh material is not flammable or does not support combustion, so the risk of a fire in the room due to cigarette butts falling from the upper floors when the canvas catches fire is minimized. The network also serves as additional protection against any burning objects falling from above.
  • The canvas is easy to care for; you can wipe it with a wet cloth and detergent, or remove the frame from the window and rinse it completely in the bathtub or shower stall under running water from a watering can.
  • Frame protection can be installed not only on a metal-plastic profile - the Anti-Cat mesh is often installed on wooden windows, in aluminum and fiberglass frames on casement or sliding windows. Anti-Cat is often installed in the openings of swing or sliding type balcony doors.
  • Thanks to the presence of several types of special fasteners that hold the frame, its installation and removal takes a matter of seconds, which creates additional convenience when using the device. The fastener itself ensures reliable and strong fixation of the frame on the surface (inside) of the window sash and makes it impossible for the animal to penetrate beyond its boundaries.
  • Like any anti-mosquito protection, “Antikoshka”, due to the presence of small cells and opaque manufacturing material, significantly reduces the illumination in the room, makes it difficult to see the street from the outside, and requires care of small holes, which are often clogged with dirt on the dusty streets of the lower floors of houses.

Grid installation procedure

If you decide to install protection for your pet yourself, you will need the following tools and materials:

  • special galvanized mesh. It is advisable to choose a mesh size of approximately 1 inch. Such parameters will allow the animal not to get stuck in the structure;
  • needle nose pliers;
  • screws 1 cm long;
  • adjustable wrench;
  • screwdriver;
  • drill;
  • saw for cutting metal.

The installation procedure includes several stages:

  1. Preparing the base to which the mesh is attached.
  2. A frame is attached to its inner side using screws, and steel corners are mounted on the outside, which will fix the structure.
  3. Directly installing the mesh on the window.
  4. If required, additional fastening is required.

Often, conventional mounting brackets are not enough. In this case, additional methods can be used:

  • Plastic corners. This mounting option should be used if it is necessary to maintain the integrity of the window frame. This option is suitable for residents of lower floors, since there is a high risk that a cat will knock out such a mesh;
  • If the safety of your pet comes first, you should give preference to steel fasteners;
  • Anti-cotton mesh for wooden windows is fixed in place, based on the design features.

The service life of such structures is from 10 to 15 years. In winter, the net does not need to be removed. The characteristics of modern products allow them to preserve their original properties. The fastenings do not require any special care, just like the protective system itself. It is enough just to wash it once a year with soapy water.

Varieties of Anti-Cat mesh

A standard protective mesh has a frame structure; usually the sheet is attached to a durable and lightweight frame consisting of an aluminum profile and connecting corners made of metal or plastic. There are also options for frameless fastening of the mesh, when magnetic (adhesive) tape is attached along its perimeter, and on the outer surface of the door or window opening at the location of the mesh there are metal pads (Velcro) to which magnets (network) are attracted.

Frame mesh is widely used when installed in window or open doorways; the Anti-Cat mesh is often installed on a balcony or loggia in external glazing. Read also: Balcony mosquito nets and their types.

In addition, the network is used in the following designs:

  • Swing doors . The device is a door frame on hinges, to which a reinforced mesh is nailed to prevent animals from entering.
  • Sliding doors . The structure is often installed on top of balcony blocks and entrances of any type, both with sliding and hinged doors; to cover the doorway, the frame with a padded mesh is moved parallel to the glazing.
  • Doors with magnets . In this design, the mesh consists of two canvases, each of which has a magnetic tape attached to it on the long side. The panels are nailed around the perimeter of the door frame and joined together in the middle by gluing magnetic tapes to each other.

Rice. 4 “Anti-cat” on sliding doors

How does Anti-cat differ from a typical mosquito?

A typical mosquito net, which is installed as an obstacle to insects, is not designed for increased load. The frame's fastenings will not withstand the weight of an adult cat leaning or jumping on it, and the mesh fabric will tear under its sharp claws.

The Anti-Cat mesh is free of these shortcomings. It is distinguished by:

  • Highly durable materials - from polyester to stainless steel.
  • Reinforced frame structure. PVC elements are replaced with similar ones made of aluminum profiles.
  • More reliable fastenings around the perimeter of the window.

Such a mosquito will withstand not only the weight and claws of a cat, but even the beaks of small birds that remove stuck insects from its cells.

Structure reinforced with impost (cross member)

The Anti-Cat is almost always made from dark materials. Animals more easily perceive it as an obstacle.

Window mounting options

In the vast majority of cases, the Anti-Cats net will be placed in a prefabricated aluminum frame, which is attached over the window opening in the following ways:

To the corners . Fastening the frame to Z-shaped corners made of plastic or metal is the most common method; the parts are screwed from the outside onto the window frame at four points closer to the corners. The frame is inserted through the window frame until it stops in the upper corners and then lowers, falling into the grooves of the lower corner supports; it is removed in the same way by lifting it up by the handles. A domestic cat has little chance of moving the frame to the side and going outside if the installed fastener, due to the flexibility of the plastic, presses it against the outer surface of the window sash so that the frame moves sideways with great force.

Rice. 5 Anti-mosquito net with magnets in the doors

On the rotary plates . With this method of fastening, the frame must have two handles on the sides; 4 curved plates are screwed to the aluminum profile of the mesh at one point in such a way that they rotate around their axis, going beyond the dimensions of the frame. The frame is placed in the window opening, held by the handles, and the plates are rotated, which cling to the projections of the internal window profile, preventing the mesh from falling out of the sash.

On plastic winged flags . The fastening parts in appearance resemble a door handle, which, when turned, with some force, presses the frame to the plane of the window sash. The fasteners are usually located at four points in the corners outside the window; it is convenient to use on balconies and loggias, where it is possible to go outside and deploy flags. Due to the tight pressing of the frame in this way, the chances of a pet entering the street are minimal.

Fig.6 Using various fasteners

Ordering and installing an anti-mosquito net - our-master.kiev.ua

On the pins . Spring pins (plungers) for fixing the frame are placed in the aluminum frame, drilling holes at four points closer to the corners. The pins pass through the frame and, when installing the Anti-Cat into the window opening, enter a smooth part or are screwed into a threaded counterpart recessed into the window profile. In addition to the high cost of the pins, this fastening method is difficult to install; it deforms the window frame and the aluminum profile of the mesh stop, weakening its strength.

Using self-tapping screws . Using this method, a homemade metal mesh grille is tightly attached behind the window opening; in this case, the animal has no chance of getting through the fence.

On double sided tape . The retail chain sells frameless nets that are attached to burdock tape, which has an adhesive surface on one side (pasted on the window profile), and on the other there are small teeth like Velcro that hold the canvas. It is clear that such a fastening system is ineffective due to weak fixation and contradicts the purpose of the device.

On magnets. Frameless types of window screens can be attached to magnets sewn (glued) to the canvas, however, the reliability of this method is too low to prevent the entry of animals.

Other methods . The frameless “Anti-Cat” stop can be firmly nailed to the outer surface of the window sash with wooden slats, inserted into screwed narrow plastic boxes for external laying of electrical cables, and attached to a self-made wooden frame (the method is effective for non-standard windows). The retail chain sells plastic corners that are screwed on the outside to secure the mesh frame and used in a similar way to Z-shaped plates.

Rice. 7 Options for frameless mesh fastening

Anti-mosquito net for window with Velcro

Laying the canvas

The finished frame is placed horizontally, with the open groove facing up. The selected cellular fabric is cut out with an allowance (from 3 cm, but better if 10-15 cm). Then the finished panel is placed on top of the frame. It is straightened out and pressed along the contour with weights.

If the frame is made of a special profile, a cord is placed over the groove along the canvas and rolled with a roller until it is completely pressed into the groove. The excess mesh is cut off, leaving approximately 1 cm (above the groove).

If the frame was created from cable channels, then the covers of the narrow sides are first placed on the mesh spread over the frame. Then they are carefully pressed along their entire length until they snap into place. Long lids are applied and pressed in the same way.

Handles and staples

The external mosquito net cannot be put in place without handles. You can use soft and thin ones made of cheap plastic. They are placed on the frame even before the mesh and pressed into the profile grooves along with the cord. The disadvantage of such handles is that they often break, and the sections of the cord above them become flattened. And you can’t put such handles on a frame made of cable channels - you’ll have to look for something stronger and fix it with self-tapping screws.

Also, for an external homemade mesh you will need bracket holders. Plastic ones do not damage the frame, but are fragile and can break at any moment. Steel spring brackets are more reliable, but by pressing the mesh tightly against the window, they can scratch the frame. The best option is a spring bracket with a piece of heat-shrinkable tubing stretched over it

You can fix such a tube on a spring by heating it with a hairdryer or over a gas burner (very carefully)

Without frame

There are situations when it is only possible to install a frameless mosquito net of your own making on a window. Such meshes are secured in place using:

  • “burdock” adhesive tape (Velcro);
  • or special magnetic strips.

Each of these fastening systems has its own advantages/disadvantages, as well as scope of application.

Velcro

Velcro tape holds mosquitoes very well. One half of it (the one with hooks) is attached to a wooden frame, and the second (the fleecy one) is sewn onto a honeycomb fabric along the entire edge. On a plastic window, such a tape is placed along the contour of the slope (internal, when viewed from the seal). For winter storage, mosquito nets are stored rolled up, and if you sew a hooked half of velcro to the cloth, in the spring such a roll will not be able to unfold - the hooks will grab tightly together. Therefore, you must act strictly as recommended.

There are many disadvantages to using duct tape. And the most significant of them, no matter how strange it may seem, is the reliability of the fastening. The hooked part of the tape is glued to the frame with super strong glue, so it is almost impossible to remove it without damaging the frame. Often, when removed, this half of the Velcro tape pulls the second half of the Velcro tape along with it, the fleecy one, tearing it off the mosquito cloth. That is why velcro mesh is most often placed on balcony frames, where it safely serves the entire season without removal.

Magnets

A homemade frameless mosquito fly fits well on magnetic holders:

  • single-pole for fastening steel;
  • and bipolar for attachment to a non-magnetic base.

Grids with single-pole magnets are installed on car windows. In such cases, the magnetic tape is hidden in a drawstring made of dense thin fabric and sewn along the edge of a honeycomb anti-mosquito fabric, cut to the required size and shape. The finished structures are simply applied to the windows, where they fit quite tightly along the contour, without damaging the base at all.

Bipolar holders stick together very tightly, so they are perfect for installing mosquito nets on windows and doors indoors. Such magnets can be purchased in ready-to-install kits, where the polarity of the strips is pre-marked, and one of them is already attached to Velcro. It is this that is attached to the fat-free base, and the second is hidden in a fabric sleeve and sewn along the edge of the anti-mosquito fabric.

You can make a bipolar holder yourself from a pair of unipolar magnets. Additionally, you only need double-sided tape. You will first need to mark the polarity of the tapes so that they do not stick together or bounce off each other when installing the frameless mosquito net.

A mosquito net with bipolar magnets is the best option for decorating windows and doorways in country houses, in tourist seasonal boarding houses and in houses at recreation centers. Such magnetic holders are also suitable for attaching mosquito nets to the bottom and middle of a balcony door in an apartment. Provided that at the top and sides this mesh is secured to the frame of the balcony door using “burdock” Velcro.

Manufacturing materials

From a ready-made aluminum profile and special corners, it’s easy to assemble a frame yourself and insert a mesh into it using a sealing cord; ready-made kits are available for sale for this.

The Anti-Cat net is manufactured in a factory using the following materials:

Steel

This material is often used to make “Anti-cats” with your own hands; usually they take galvanized or low-carbon steel with arbitrary cell sizes, the mesh from which is used in enclosures. It is clear that the enclosure net has large mesh sizes and will not protect against insects, but it will completely prevent any attempts by pets to penetrate the fence.

As protection against cats, you can also use a special calibrated mesh with a mesh size of 4 mm or more, made using a special technology without the use of welding; in its design, individual rods are held in a stationary position relative to each other due to their curved shape. The galvanized net is made from any type of steel wire; stainless steel, galvanized steel, or steel with other anti-corrosion coating is often used.

Pet screen

The Anti-Cat polymer net, produced using Canadian technology or delivered from Canada, is specially designed to protect against sharp teeth and claws of pets. Thanks to the small cells of the durable fabric, it copes well with anti-mosquito functions; the disadvantages include a lower ability to transmit light due to thick threads compared to standard mosquito repellents such as Bauset. The main colors of the Anti-Cats Pet screen are gray, black, silver and their combinations.

Aluminum

Metal mesh for Anti-Cat aluminum windows has a small mesh size that prevents the penetration of insects, and high strength characteristics that make it possible to restrain the teeth and claws of animals. The advantage of aluminum over steel is corrosion resistance and long service life, and over time, aluminum becomes even stronger, undergoing a natural type of special industrial metal processing called artificial aging.

Rice. 8 Mesh manufacturing options

Scissor grid and how it works

At the top or bottom of such a structure, rollers are installed along which the system moves. Moreover, its elements are connected by movable elements that move like scissor blades.

If your apartment is even on the first floor, you should not relax: if you have small children, the baby can climb out the window and fall out of it. Even a low altitude can have a detrimental effect on his health and even life. The greater the height, the more dangerous the fall, which is why it is recommended to install bars on plastic kid-stop windows. The device will reliably protect the window opening, preventing the child from getting to it. At the same time, you will be able to use the window without any problems, ventilate and open it when you need it, and you won’t have to worry about your baby or pets.

Kidstop bars for plastic windows

If you want to protect your child, then you cannot limit yourself to installing a regular mosquito net. The mesh is attached with self-tapping screws and with a little pressure it breaks or falls out, so it often causes cats and children to fall out of the window, as they think that they can lean on it. The kidstop system will help prevent such falls.

Children's window bars are less functional than those designed to protect the home, but they are less bulky, do not spoil the external design of the window, and can be easily moved by adults when necessary. The materials of the kidstop grille are durable and metal. Many products are already painted from the factory, but if necessary, you can repaint them in the style you want. This product does not seem bulky, but it is quite durable and can withstand even high loads well.

Installing gratings is not the easiest task

It is important not only that they have the necessary functions, but also that fire safety is observed, since there are often cases when, in the event of a fire, people cannot leave the premises because of the bars and die

Protective grilles for kidstop windows have the following advantages:

  • The frame is made of steel, the rods are vertical, located close to each other. The device provides good protection against falls from heights.
  • The frame is attached in close proximity to the slope; steel brackets are used for this.
  • When fastening, only the side slope is involved, so you do not have to worry about the integrity of the plastic window. The grille does not interfere with the use of the mosquito net.
  • The fence can be removed fairly quickly.

average price

All types of durable mosquito nets of the “Anti-Cat” type are sold in trade construction stores or companies in the form of rolls 1400 - 1600 mm wide of various lengths (about 30 m), prices differ from different manufacturers and suppliers, for example, 1 linear meter of Pet Screen 1600 mm wide can be purchased for 850 rubles, aluminum mesh of the same length 1400 mm wide costs 600 rubles. (Fig. 9). Finished products in an aluminum frame are naturally more expensive; the price of one square meter of aluminum metal mesh, depending on the color of the canvas and frame, ranges from 2,200 to 3,000 rubles. (Fig. 12).

Tips and tricks

To prevent store salespeople from slipping a simple mosquito net instead of anti-cat, you need to remember a few significant differences.

They never produce an anti-cat system in the form of metallized mosquito nets.

Products made from stainless steel materials look shiny and do not interact with magnets.

Steel products shine well and are well attracted by magnets.

Aluminum products are not magnetic and have a completely matte surface.

Plastic melts quickly when exposed to heat from a lighter or match.

Most often, the polymer network is confused, since distinguishing it from a simple mesh is problematic.

Differences between paintings

You shouldn’t skimp on the safety of your beloved living creatures. But we also must not forget that such measures will not prevent the child from falling out, therefore, if there is both a cat and a child in the house, it is better to install two types of protection at once.

The installation process is shown in detail in the following video:

How to make a mesh with your own hands

When making “Anti-cats” with your own hands, depending on the situation, the following options are considered:

  1. The consumer has a ready-made anti-mosquito on a frame, which he received complete with the PVC window being installed or was purchased separately. In this case, when cats are indoors, use the existing structure, equipped with additional protection from pets. To do this, screw an aviary or calibrated mesh with an arbitrary mesh size onto the frame using self-tapping screws, thus ensuring the safety of the cats and the integrity of the synthetic fabric (for this you will have to take a smaller mesh size).
  2. The structure is assembled from individual parts; for this purpose, they purchase a special aluminum profile, connecting corners made of plastic or metal, a piece of mesh of the required size made of aluminum or Pet Screen polymer thread, a rubber seal, two handles (all these parts are included in a special kit). Then they assemble the frame, insert the mesh into it and press it with a rubber seal, not forgetting to insert two ears to hold the body in the middle. The considered option will require some time to purchase components and assemble the structure, and the financial costs will not be much lower than the finished “Antikoshka” made from similar materials - the economic effect can only be achieved by manufacturing a large number of products.

  3. A protective “Anti-cat” is mounted from the cheapest and most accessible materials, that is, the frame is assembled from a wooden rectangular bead, and a piece of mesh for enclosures is used as a canvas.

Since the last option is the most accessible for any user, let’s take a closer look at the process of assembling such a structure. It should be noted that the Anti-Cat mosquito net, made by yourself on plastic windows, can be inserted both into the window opening with the sash open, and from the outside with the frame attached to the corners or brackets; the latter option is preferable, since it allows you to close the window. For self-assembly of “Anti-Cats”, purchase a rectangular bead with a cross-section of at least 15x15 mm, a piece of enclosure mesh of the required size, prepare self-tapping screws 5-10 mm long with wide heads, purchase four flat or curved metal corners for connecting the beads.

Rice. 11 Homemade “Anti-cats” of aviary type

Installing a mosquito net on a window with your own hands.

Work on assembling a homemade Anti-Cat is carried out in the following sequence:

  • Fix the dimensions of the window opening with a tape measure and transfer them to the drawing, increasing them by about 20 mm around the perimeter.
  • The mesh is cut to approximately the specified dimensions so that a solid wire is located around the perimeter, and not its cut fragments.
  • Four glazing beads are cut to the size of the cut mesh, fasten them together at the ends with flat or curved corners.
  • Lay the net on the surface of the frame and screw it with self-tapping screws in increments of about 50 mm, starting from the corners. After assembling the frame, fastening elements (corners, brackets) are mounted outside the window opening. If the frame with mesh is thicker and is not designed for fixation with standard parts, place pieces of wooden or polymer plates of the required thickness under them.

Options and making a mosquito net yourself

If you plan to make a mosquito net yourself, you often use ready-made solutions for self-assembly. The kit for the frame structure includes a set of fasteners, a honeycomb fabric, a seal, a profile, and handles. It is also important to make a structure with your own hands based on a cable channel. To economically install a window system in a private home, it is easy to make a frameless version of the mosquito net.

Tools and materials

To assemble a mosquito net from a purchased kit, you will need the following tools:

  • electric drill;
  • screwdriver;
  • hacksaw for metal;
  • tape measure, mounting knife.

A screwdriver is a tool for making a mosquito net with your own hands.
The ready-made kit includes:

  • frame profiles – 3 pcs. 1.5 m long;
  • impost – transverse profile – 75 cm;
  • bracket for impost – 2 pcs.;
  • corners – 4 pcs.;
  • mesh – 1.6x0.8 m;
  • rubber cord – 4.6 m;
  • handles – 2 pcs.;
  • self-tapping screws

The kit is completed with brackets of different lengths for mounting the product on the window frame.

Preparatory work

At the beginning, measurements are taken, taking into account that the quality of a homemade anti-mosquito depends on the accuracy of the parameters of the window opening. If the skylight width is 445 mm with a height of 1250 mm, the correct frame dimensions will be calculated as follows:

  • 445-40=405 mm;
  • 1250-20=1230 mm;
  • The length of the impost corresponds to the width of the opening - 445-30 = 415 mm.

The measurement formula is universal; you can insert the current parameters of the light block and calculate the dimensions of the planned frame for the grid.

Stages of manufacturing and installation of frame sashes

The measurement results are transferred to the profile and blanks are cut in the form of long and short profiles plus an intermediate element - an impost. Next comes the stage of assembling the frame and fixing the cellular fabric using a sealant:

  • assemble a rectangular frame using connecting corners;
  • fix the brackets and install the impost, aligning it in the center;
  • the mesh is applied to the frame from the side where the groove is, and starting from the corner, it is pressed in together with the sealing cord;
  • in the process of fixing the mesh into the frame, insert the handle into the groove and press it with a cord;
  • Then the fabric is tensioned, pressing the seal along the perimeter of the structure. At the end, cut off the excess sealant and honeycomb fabric.

Next, the frame is equipped with brackets on the reverse side:

  • points for self-tapping screws are marked in the lower and upper parts of the profile;
  • drill holes to a depth of 3 mm;
  • carefully fix the brackets with self-tapping screws so as not to pinch the profile.

The homemade structure is pushed into the frame opening, first hooked to the profile with the upper brackets, then the lower elements are fixed.

Manufacturing and installation of frameless protection

When deciding how to make an inexpensive mosquito net for a window with your own hands, you often use improvised materials. Based on cellular fabric and clothesline, it is not difficult to build a protective device against mosquitoes, midges and flies.

Tools and materials:

  • nylon mesh;
  • synthetic rope d4 mm;
  • segment knife;
  • roulette.

Nylon mesh will be needed for the manufacture and installation of frameless protection.
Sequence of work:

  1. The canvas is cut to the size of the sash with a margin of 1 cm around the perimeter.
  2. Open the sash and carefully remove the standard seal. Next, it should be washed and stored until the onset of the cold season.
  3. The groove is cleaned of dirt.
  4. Fix the perimeter of the mesh into the groove along with the rope, starting from the upper corner of the profile.

Stretch the fabric evenly to avoid wrinkles. This type of barrier against mosquitoes and flies is easy to dismantle and put away for seasonal storage, and the window seal can be inserted back into the groove.

Reviews

The Anti-Cat mosquito net used in everyday life has earned positive reviews from numerous pet owners. Many note the high efficiency and reliability of the product, which allows you to save the lives of your beloved cats; the disadvantages include the high cost of manufacturing and installing the device by some private companies.

Anti-cat mosquito net in the form of a finished product can be ordered from one of the many window manufacturing companies or made independently from materials sold in the retail chain. In order not to overpay money, to protect cats from injury, you can make a similar product with your own hands from several wooden glazing beads and a piece of enclosure (laminated) mesh for keeping pets.

Advantages and disadvantages

Window barriers to protect pets are available in black or gray, since for them these colors are associated with an obstacle or a threat.

Advantages of mosquito nets with anti-cat function:

  • strength. The canvas can withstand significant mechanical loads;
  • sustainability. The design ensures the safety of the pet. Some models are designed for pressure of live weight up to 20 kg;
  • reliable fastening. The barrier is fixed on the window frame with a stable system, which consists of several types of fastening;
  • safety and durability. The canvas material is safe for claws, fangs and beaks. The products are manufactured using “anti-claw” technology, which eliminates the formation of hangnails on the coating, even if whiskered and feathered pets cling to the mesh with sharp claws;
  • throughput. The material does not interfere with the penetration of natural light and air circulation;
  • variety of solutions. A wide range of mosquito nets with an anti-cat function is presented. It is not difficult to choose the optimal version depending on the requirements for the functional characteristics of the protective addition to the window system.

Safety and wear resistance are the advantages of the Anti-Cat mosquito net
. Disadvantages:

  • Black anticoat does not have high throughput capabilities. The product is not recommended for installing windows in rooms with low levels of natural light;
  • the cost of offers varies depending on the functionality of the models. The most reliable steel solutions are sold in the expensive segment; the available aluminum options do not have high performance potential.

Another disadvantage is the difficulty of dismantling the protective structure due to the use of a special fastening system with several types of fixing elements.

Tips for choosing grids

The choice of the optimal model depends not only on the type of window, but also on the weight and character of the animal.
These factors cannot be neglected, since all previous efforts may be in vain, and the pet will eventually fall out of the window. To keep your family pet safe, it is recommended to use the following tips:

  1. Frame mesh is fixed in the opening only with metal fasteners. Plastic in such cases is absolutely unacceptable. Typically, such clamps are installed in quantities of 6-12 pieces. These fasteners are available in two types of plates with different metal thicknesses - for medium and large cats.
  2. If the animal is particularly playful, it is recommended to choose a black mesh. It is this color that causes a psychological block in animals and forces them to stop.
  3. For hyperactive animals, which during periods of cat weddings are eager to meet representatives of the opposite sex, do not require a standard mosquito “Anti-Cat”, but an additionally reinforced model. Protection in these cases is provided by another mesh welded on the outside with large cells made of thick wire.

Some manufacturers claim that Anti-Cat models can protect against a child possibly falling out of the window. These statements are not true, so you should not believe them and risk the health and life of the baby. Find out how to properly ensure children's safety at OknaTrade.
