Triplex double-glazed windows. Description of the essence of the technology, pros and cons of the design

Glass offers its customers to order impact-resistant triplex glass, which will provide comfort and safety in buildings for life and business. The triplex design is made using layer cake technology, in which the layers are glass and the interlayer is a polymer film. As a result, you can buy a product with unique performance characteristics that can be easily changed by increasing the thickness and properties of the layers.

Characteristics of double-glazed windows with triplex glass

The key characteristics of triplex double-glazed windows depend on their structure. When choosing, pay attention to the following characteristics of a double-glazed window:

  • Number of air chambers.
  • Glass thickness.
  • Heat transfer resistance coefficient, m2°C/W.
  • Sound insulation, measured in dB.
  • Directional transmittance.

Name of the glass unit Double-glazed window formula Heat transfer resistance coefficient, m2C/W Sound insulation, dB Directional transmittance
Single chamber 3.1.3-14-4 0,37 40 0,81
4.1.4-12-4 0,36 41 0,81
Double chamber 3.1.3-10-4-8-4 0,50 41 0,74
4.1.4-8-4-8-4 0,48 42 0,74

The characteristics of double-glazed windows made of laminated glass are described by the formulas “3.1.3” or “4.1.4”. The presence of the “Zak” or “Z” sign in the marking means that the manufacturer used tempered glass.

The formula “3.1.3” means that the structure consists of two glass sheets 3 mm thick, connected to each other by a one-millimeter film into a kind of “sandwich”. The formula “4.1.4”, accordingly, means that four-millimeter sheets were used for the product.

At plasokna you can order triplex double-glazed windows of both types.

In order for the windows in the house to be exclusively a source of fresh air and sunlight, you need to take care of high-quality double-glazed windows with anti-vandal properties. Double-glazed windows with triplex will help protect from external irritants and increase the comfort of being indoors.

Properties of double-glazed windows with triplex

These translucent structures are suitable for installation in wooden and plastic frames. They are mainly installed in the windows of the first floors of the building, and also as transparent elements of entrance doors. Triplex is also often used to organize glass roofs.

This type of glass has the following advantages:

  • it is quite difficult to break, so intruders will not be able to enter the premises;
  • not susceptible to the effects of climatic factors (temperature changes, wind loads);
  • have high thermal insulation properties, allowing you to save on heating the room;
  • protect the occupants of the room from external noise, as they have low sound conductivity;
  • when broken, they do not form dangerous chips.

How is triplex made? Types of glass

Triplex is made by gluing several glasses together. Polymer materials or film are used as an adhesive element. Depending on the method of connecting the layers, there are two types of double-glazed windows:

  • film – the connecting element is EVA film;
  • polymer – the connecting element is a liquid polymer that is poured between the layers.

Glass processing occurs under a press that creates high pressure, as well as under high temperature conditions. The thickness of triplex varies from 6 to 52 mm, which means that a suitable type of glass can be found for any object. The connecting layer is 1-2.5 mm of the total thickness of the glass unit.

Characteristics of film triplex:

  • minimum number of glass layers – 2;
  • minimum thickness – 5 mm;
  • In terms of strength, it is inferior to a flooded glass unit;
  • used for glazing buildings, creating shop windows;
  • when broken, it forms multiple cracks, but does not crumble, since the glass elements remain connected by the film.

Characteristics of jellied triplex:

  • has no maximum thickness limit;
  • stronger than film glass;
  • if a double-glazed window can be broken, then the resulting hole does not exceed the diameter of the object, so intruders will not be able to get inside;
  • used in glazing buildings (residential and commercial), in transport, and retail facilities.

Triplex is suitable for installation in children's institutions, facilities of national importance, sports facilities, as well as any other residential and public buildings that require increased security.

Triplex decoration

Thanks to its multilayer structure, triplex is more flexible than ordinary glass. That is, it can be used to make not only standard light-transmitting elements, but also curvilinear decorative structures.

Bending

(creating bends) is possible if the triplex has dimensions from 10x10 cm to 1.5x2.5 m and a thickness of up to 19 mm.

If desired, triplex can be given any shade. For this, light-resistant dyes are used that do not lose their original characteristics even with prolonged exposure to ultraviolet radiation.

The surface of the triplex can be:

  • matte;
  • transparent;
  • embossed;
  • with a pattern (applied by sandblasting, powdering, vacuum spraying);
  • with a pattern on the inner film.

That is, by choosing triplex, you can not only protect your home, commercial or public facility, but also realize any artistic ideas and decorate the window/door in the desired way.

Advantages of installing triplex

The most important quality of triplex is its shockproof properties. Even with mechanical damage, glass continues to retain its heat and sound insulation properties and will easily “hold out” until the damaged element is replaced.

In addition, triplex:

  • protects the occupants of the facility and the property stored therein;
  • helps save money on heating the property;
  • increases fire-fighting properties;
  • protects against ultraviolet radiation entering the object, which means furniture and interior items will not fade;
  • When broken, they do not form dangerous fragments.

Triplex is a profitable replacement for ordinary glass, since all the costs of purchasing and installing such a double-glazed window will be recouped in savings on heating the room, and the very fact of installing a safe, translucent structure will guarantee peace of mind for residents or owners of the property for the safety of life and property.

Advantages and disadvantages

The advantages of double-glazed windows made from triplex include:

  • Protection from injury thanks to shatterproofness.
  • High-quality insulation of the room from street noise.
  • Protecting the premises from unwanted entry.
  • High level of transparency.
  • Strength and resistance to microdamage.
  • Protection from excess solar UV rays.
  • The appearance and high transparency are maintained throughout the entire period of use.

The only significant drawback is the rather large weight of such double-glazed windows. This is due to multi-layering.

What it is?

This material is a double-glazed window with a special multi-layer coating. It is applied to the glass surface during deep-vacuum magnetron processing. In this case, the coating is completely environmentally friendly. Highly selective silver becomes the main functional layer. Double-glazed windows created using this technology help to significantly reduce the penetration of solar radiation into an office or apartment.

At the same time, the light transmission capacity remains at the highest level. In addition, the use of such windows makes it possible to reduce heating and air conditioning costs, since they have improved thermal insulation. In this regard, the circulation of cold air in the double-glazed window is reduced, eliminating the possibility of condensation forming on the inner glass during the cold season. In humid and hot weather, condensation will also not appear on the outer glass.

Multifunctional double-glazed windows allow you to effectively maintain an optimal indoor microclimate. They become a kind of mirror that reflects heat and light in both directions. Due to this property, glass works well in cold and hot weather without compromising light transmission. Multifunctional double-glazed windows help save on electricity. After all, heat loss will be minimal, you will not have to spend money on additional heating of the space. It is by these parameters that you can distinguish a multifunctional double-glazed window from a regular one.

Glazing with decorative triplex

Decorative triplex is made using colored films, inserts of various decorative materials (fabric, leather, etc.), photo wallpaper with a pattern. The result is not only a plain triplex in white, black or another color, but also unique designer products.

Decorative triplex significantly expands the scope of glass use. This is one of the most popular materials used by designers in interior decor.

Interior doors with glass and decorative triplex look beautiful. And such decor will not fade over time.

Manufacturing technology of laminated glass triplex

To obtain laminated glass, glass sheets are placed in a special chamber with a triplex polymer film (PVB, EVA, PVM) sandwiched between them. During pressing under pressure and at high temperature (40-50°C above the fluid temperature of the film), the structure is glued into a single whole. This is how triplex film is obtained.

In the production of jellied triplex, a special adhesive liquid is used to connect glass sheets. With the poured method, the structure is polymerized by ultraviolet rays.

Triplex as it is

This term is usually used to designate glass consisting of two or more panels creating a single structure. The intermediate layers between the sheets being fastened are EVA film or other polyvinyl butyral film. Thanks to the use of this technology, the glass sheet acquires amazing properties. For example, its ability to withstand mechanical shocks increases significantly. If, when applying excessive force, the integrity of the canvas is damaged, then the fragments will not be able to fly away in different directions, because they will all remain on the intermediate layer.
