When ordering windows and any other structures based on profile systems and double-glazed windows, it is recommended to take care of their safety, eliminating the risk of injury to loved ones, colleagues, employees, clients and visitors. The simplest and most effective way to achieve this goal is to use triplex in the manufacture of double-glazed windows. Depending on the circumstances, this material can be located both on the inside and outside of the windows. Triplex is a multilayer structure consisting of transparent or colored glass, between which there is a polymer film. It is this laminating layer that can significantly improve the performance characteristics of glass. Today, several types of impact-resistant glass of this type are produced, which has significantly expanded the range of construction and design possibilities.
Advantages of triplex
The demand for the material is ensured by a number of advantages:
- long-term operation;
- injury safety;
- impact resistance;
- soundproofing;
- heat and frost resistance;
- UV protection.
Strength is ensured by the multilayer structure, layers of film and polymer. Even thin products are stronger than ordinary glass of greater thickness. Under severe pressure or impact, triplex will retain its integrity, even if it cracks.
The surface of the triplex retains its original color. Glass does not delaminate and lasts almost unlimited time. Even in a car, where triplex is subject to shock, vibration, and temperature changes, the product lasts for decades. With an initially higher cost, over time, triplex fully covers the costs of its purchase and installation.
Application of triplex in construction
The options for using triplex in construction are quite wide. Using this material, you can not only create safe windows in your apartment, but also install transparent and colored facades, shop windows, doors, partitions, stairs and even floors in commercial buildings. This material is also widely used in furniture production. Glass shower cabins, cabinet doors, refrigerators, countertops, racks, shelves - all these products have become firmly established in everyday use.

Triplex manufacturing technologies
Production is based on both traditional technologies and the latest, dictated by time. To create laminated glass, the following methods are used:
- Filling. First, the glass is prepared and washed. The result is a grease-free, clean surface. Next, double-sided tape is placed on one sheet of glass, and the next glass is placed on top. The next stage is pre-pressing, after which the space is filled with polymer. When the product hardens, begin installing the second layer.
- Film. A film (transparent, colored, patterned, energy-saving, etc.) is placed between the sheets of prepared glass, followed by the pressing stage, followed by gluing in an autoclave.
- Film without the use of an autoclave. Glass with a layer of film is glued together due to vacuum. The final stage is heating in a convection chamber followed by cooling.
- A relatively innovative method involves the use of a light-transmitting doped oxide layer. Due to the electrically conductive coating, it is possible to produce a “heated” triplex.
Wired glass
This is the most economical option for completing windows, so you shouldn’t expect too much from it. Wired glass is considered conditionally safe because it is not designed to withstand severe mechanical stress. Even if the impact is not too strong, such glass will break. It is also not capable of detaining a thief for long if he has a tool that can remove the metal mesh. Equipping windows with such glass usually serves 2 purposes:
- protect others from injury
- fragments of broken reinforced glass mostly remain hanging on the steel wire, which reduces the likelihood of injury from them at the moment of impact; - make it difficult for inexperienced fraudsters to gain access to the interior
- the mesh is not visible in the dark, and attackers do not expect to run into another obstacle, so they most often abandon their intentions or are seriously injured on the mesh.
This method of assembling windows is best suited for protecting utility rooms and other utility facilities where valuable property is not stored. Also, reinforced glass can be used for installation in interior and interfloor doors. In this case, it also serves as a means of fire protection.
The metal mesh is noticeable inside the glass, and also slightly reduces their light transmittance, which in some cases spoils the appearance of the windows - this must be taken into account when choosing a method of protection.
Types of triplex
Manufacturers offer a choice of triplex in a variety of colors, thickness, number of layers, and levels of transparency.
One of the important selection parameters is thickness. Depends on how many layers of glass are involved. Triplex, which includes a lot of thin glass, will be stronger than analogues of the same thickness, but made up of fewer layers. The design is lighter, but does not lose in strength, practicality and performance. In production, bulk polymers and films of different levels of light transmission are used.
Conscious choice of safety with triplex glass
Plastic, and not only, windows today are radically different from their counterparts 20 years ago. At that time, the main thing when buying a window was its whiteness and its dissimilarity to the old “carpentry”. Now you have the opportunity to choose a multifunctional product taking into account all your requirements and wishes.
Triplex is in the first row of necessary options to ensure increased comfort of housing. Its purpose is to save life, health, property, to give silence, beauty and warmth. Stratobel copes well with these tasks.
In order to overcome the element of mistrust on the part of buyers, it makes sense in sales offices to try triplex in work themselves - try to break a double-glazed window with triplex yourself. It’s better to try it once than to hear it a hundred times!

According to decorative properties
White triplex is one of the materials popular among designers. Wear-resistant laminated glass, characterized by increased strength. Ethylene vinyl acetate film and high-quality tempered glass are used in production. The protective layer can be textiles, leather, rattan and other white materials.
Black triplex has all the strength characteristics of laminated glass, excellent durability and safety. It is characterized by resistance to temperature changes, protects against UV radiation and excess noise. In production, wenge-colored film or special black films with a matte effect are used.
A triplex mirror is much stronger and more durable than a regular one. The characteristics depend on the quality of the film and the glass used. Manufactured using the vacuum method. The layer between two mirror glasses (regular, tempered) is a polymer film. To bond surfaces, the product is placed in vacuum ovens.
Decorative triplex is distinguished by a pattern inside the product. This is a practical and stylish interior decoration, both residential and commercial. Between the sheets of glass the following is placed:
- fabrics that provide a feeling of comfort;
- photographic images to create the desired atmosphere;
- broken tempered glass to create a picture of cracking ice.
Colored triplex helps realize the most whimsical ideas of designers. The material consists of two sheets of glass (tempered, plain) with a layer in the form of a colored film.
Regardless of the chosen variety, the buyer receives an attractive, durable material for implementing any ideas in design, construction, etc.
Silence is a nice bonus to safety
In addition to its high impact resistance, Stratobel triplex significantly improves the sound insulation of a window, adding several dB to the sound insulation level of a conventional double-glazed window. Owners of apartments whose windows overlook a playground or a busy highway will appreciate this. And owners of country houses should not neglect this property of triplex. Outside the city, you especially want peace in your home. The triplex will provide the desired silence, dampening the annoying noise from nearby construction sites or neighboring holidays.
Photo: sound insulation with Stratophone triplex *Increased sound insulation properties are typical for any triplex. But if the requirements in this area are high, it is better to use special laminated glass, for example, Stratophone. Glass provides increased noise protection thanks to a special PVB acoustic film. The Stratophone is excellent at absorbing low frequency sounds such as traffic noise.
• Heat saving
Stratobel laminated glass can also be produced using coated glass. Triplex with multifunctional coating will leave outside not only uninvited guests and noise, but also excess solar and ultraviolet radiation, preserving not only valuables, but also the coolness and color of the interior. If the sun is a rare visitor to the window, you can opt for Stratobel with i-glass to get excellent heat conservation, silence and safety.
• Beautiful triplex
The glass connecting film expands the possibilities of use. It can be transparent, matte or decorative, leaving the right to choose the appearance of the window from thousands of possible options to the architect or designer.

According to operational features
Tempered triplex is manufactured using a technology different from traditional technology. Tempered glass sheets are used as layers, which are combined into a single whole - thick, highly durable glass. A polymer film is placed between the layers, then under pressure and at a certain temperature a triplex of increased strength is obtained.
This is an environmentally friendly material that is produced in a variety of types - from transparent to colored. Decorated with milling and photo printing. Protects from noise, UV rays, cold. Resistant to temperature changes and shocks.
Filled triplex is a multilayer structure of glass sheets (regular, tempered, energy-saving, etc.) and an adhesive composition that polymerizes under certain conditions. Layering provides flexibility to the triplex and increases strength. Available in colored and matte versions.
On a note! Impact-resistant triplex is not afraid of temperature fluctuations, high loads and mechanical impact. Due to the vacuum, it is possible to maximize the performance characteristics of the product.
The consumer is offered a choice of triplex of different thicknesses:
- 3 mm - 2 glasses of the specified thickness with a layer in the form of ethylene vinyl acetate energy-saving film (transparent, matte, patterned, tint) - for different areas of application;
- 4 mm - several layers of glass 4 mm thick, glued together in a vacuum oven - for furniture, interior design, exterior decoration;
- 5 mm - consists of glass of the specified thickness and film - for domestic and industrial purposes (zoning of premises, production of auto glass, furniture industry, steps, etc.);
- 6 mm - two glasses 6 mm thick and a film between them, sintered in a vacuum oven - for exterior decoration, commercial use;
- 8 mm with additional hardening and anti-vandal coating - for shop windows, cladding of buildings, as well as creating protective structures during public events;
- 10 mm - a multilayer structure created using the cast or film method - to protect an object from unauthorized access, for interior and architectural glazing.
Differences in operation and technical qualities
To make it easier to decide which material to order, it is worth considering that they have certain differences:
- different manufacturing techniques;
- its technical and operational qualities (safety, durability, heat resistance, light transmittance);
- different range of applications.
Materials | pros | Minuses |

Considering the features of both materials, it is worth highlighting the fact that triplex allows you to implement any design solutions. Since in its production multi-colored or plain films (can be with prints and ornaments), fabrics (which are rolled between double-glazed windows) are selected.
Also, in its production, nano-technology “Smart glass” can be used (that is, it is glass with a variable degree of transparency, which has recently been in great demand when arranging modern interiors and public institutions).
But tempered glass is a universal material often found in indoor interiors. It does not have such great decoration possibilities (except for the use of sandblasting patterns and ceramic printing). Its only disadvantage is the impossibility of processing after production.
That is, if you need to make a hole in the finished material, it will most likely simply collapse. Therefore, before ordering its production, you need to think through everything to the smallest detail. Since it is possible to change the shape, size or make a hole in the glass only until it is hardened.
Application area
Due to the high strength and absence of risks when triplex is destroyed, its scope of application covers almost all areas of human activity. Material used in glazing:
- office partitions;
- floor and ceiling;
- all-glass door;
- windshield in a car;
- shop windows;
- glass facades;
- windows in apartments, warehouses, retail premises;
- staircase structures;
- table tops and other furniture.
In addition to the above, triplex is used to create bank partitions, display cases in jewelry stores and exchange offices (a bulletproof product is often chosen).
Due to the lack of risk of injury, triplex is chosen for glazing rooms where children spend time. These can be school classrooms, assembly halls and sports halls.
Reference: laminated glass was initially in demand in the automotive industry. In the event of an accident, even if the glass cracks and shatters into pieces, each of them will be safe. Typically, the triplex is stored at the place of installation in the car, allowing the driver to drive to the service station. In addition to cars, triplex is used in aircraft manufacturing and railway transport.
Differences between triplex and classic glass:
- increased resistance to impacts;
- long-term operation;
- injury safety;
- soundproofing;
- heat and frost resistance;
- UV protection.
A multilayer product with a film or polymer between the layers becomes very durable, even if we are talking about relatively thin triplexes (6 mm). With a similar thickness to classic glass, triplex wins hands down. For a slightly higher cost, the consumer receives maximum safety, as well as bonuses in the form of heat conservation and an aesthetic component. The glass will remain intact even with strong vibrations, frosts, and shocks.
Providing security is what triplex is valued for. The characteristics of the product have ensured its high demand in all industries. International standards do not allow certification of some products unless they are equipped with triplex instead of standard glass.
Where is it recommended to use triplex?
Impact-resistant double-glazed windows are more expensive than standard models, so customers take a rational approach to the issue of ensuring safety. Most often, triplex glass is used in the manufacture of:
- windows into rooms where children are located - this applies to both private residential real estate and educational institutions;
- glazed entrance groups for any objects;
- various partitions in offices, shopping malls and so on;
- transparent protective structures for museum and exhibition exhibits;
- apartment windows facing playgrounds;
- showcases
Not everyone knows, but in addition to impact-resistant, fire-resistant triplex is produced, which effectively prevents the spread of fire. Depending on the class, this material can hold a flame from 15 to 60 minutes.
Durability, heat resistance and sound insulation
Triplex copes well with shock loads. The product does not suffer at all from a minor impact, but with a serious impact it cracks, but does not fly apart like standard glass. Cutting and processing triplex does not require special skills.
The material is able to withstand long-term heating and withstands sudden changes from frost to heat and vice versa. The multilayer product exhibits the same resistance to acids and alkalis, scratching, radiation and extraneous sounds. High-quality triplex perfectly protects the room from various external irritants.
Tempered glass is stronger than triplex. The first option can withstand heating up to 300 degrees without changing the characteristics, while the second option has heat resistance only up to 180 degrees.
When it comes to sound insulation and protection from unauthorized access to the premises, triplex has no competitors. A multi-layer double-glazed window, in which three-layer glass is installed, will completely protect against sounds from the outside, even if the structure is located near a busy road.
Mechanical resistance
Both materials have fairly high resistance to various types of loads. But they can also be broken with some effort. If you break tempered glass, it will shatter into many small pieces. The fragments will have blunt edges that cannot be injured. With a strong impact, 1 square meter of tempered glass will shatter into approximately 180 small fragments.
As for triplex, it is much more difficult to break it, since it has particularly high strength indicators. But if you still succeed in doing this, the material will not shatter into numerous fragments, but only a cobweb will run along it. Since the glass will still remain attached to the adhesive or special film used in its production.
Light transmission, colors and thickness of triplex glass
The manufacturing process uses a number of specialized machines. You will need autoclaves, presses, ultraviolet emitters, etc. Considering the dimensions and capabilities of special equipment, the size of the products is limited. The maximum that can be obtained is a product with sides of 2x3 m.
According to the technology, the minimum number of glasses in a product is 2 pieces. The thickness of each glass sheet must be at least 4 mm. The thickness of the glass varies, it can be 19 mm or even 5 cm.
Light transmittance depends on the number of layers, production technology, and materials used. Considering that resin or film material is used as a layer, the result is less translucent than traditional glass.
Triplex has a number of advantages over conventional glass. This ensures that it is in demand in a variety of areas - in everyday life and industry, commercial and other buildings. The cost of triplex depends on the purpose, thickness, materials used, manufacturer and external parameters. The price range can be found in the manufacturer’s price list.
There are a variety of models on the market that can qualitatively and practically transform facades and interiors. There is triplex with specific properties to choose from: sound insulation, mirror surface, bulletproof, electric heating, etc.
