If you decide to replace the rotary fittings with tilt-and-turn fittings yourself, then you need to know:
- name of the manufacturer of window fittings to purchase components (turn-and-tilt lock, corner switch, tilt-and-turn scissors, middle locks, latch, etc.);
- name of the profile and dimensions of the sash along the sash rebate - width and height, because a number of elements of window fittings depend on these values;
After you purchase the components for remodeling the window yourself, you will need to remove the decorative trim of the top hinge on the frame in the closed position of the swing window, remove the pin from the top hinge group by pressing on it from above and pulling out the pin from below, for example, with pliers. If your sash is equipped with an overhead middle clamp, you will also need to remove the decorative trim from it and unscrew the fasteners from the frame part. After this, you need to move the handle to the open position, holding the sash with your hand to avoid falling out from a gust of wind or under its own weight.
After removing the sash, you need to unscrew the window handle, place the sash on the table with the outer side up and unscrew all the elements on the sash with the exception of the lower hinge on the sash. Next, according to the installation instructions (you can find them on the Internet), screw on the fittings in a certain sequence. When installing the fittings, you will need to cut the tilt-and-turn lock and the tilt-and-turn scissors to the size of the window; this can be done by cutting with a hacksaw or an angle grinder. When screwing self-tapping screws into a PVC profile, it is advisable to set the minimum tightening force on the screwdriver to avoid turning the self-tapping screw in the profile. Self-tapping screws must be used in sizes 3.9x25 or 4x25. When installing fittings on the sash, make sure that all fitting elements are in their middle (central) position, because The performance of the fittings will depend on this.
After hanging the sash on the frame, you need to screw the mating parts onto the frame. When the handle is turned from the middle position to the closed position, the trunnions on the fittings move: for the right sash - clockwise (view from the inside), for the left sash - counterclockwise (also viewed from the inside). We mark on the sash with a pencil the position of the trunnion in the closed position (all trunnions), then close the sash and transfer the marks to the frame, now it will be clear where to screw the strikers.
Remember that there should not be excessive force on the handle when locking the sash, otherwise the fittings will quickly fail or the window handle itself will break. If a large force is observed, then it is necessary to adjust the pressure (usually on the trunnions themselves) by turning the eccentric with a 4 mm hexagon wrench, with pliers in the case of flat trunnions, or, if the manufacturer has provided for this, with a regular figured screwdriver.
