Increasingly, instead of metal bars, you can see transparent stripes on windows. Upon closer acquaintance, it turns out that these are protective grilles for polycarbonate windows. They appear airy and light, not presenting a serious obstacle to intruders. Application experience shows the opposite: it is an effective, yet almost invisible, protection of window openings from burglary.
What kind of material is polycarbonate, what are its technical characteristics, pros and cons, can you install it yourself, on the StroyGuru website.
What is polycarbonate
The chemical industry supplies the national economy with a unique material - polycarbonate. It has found application in all areas of industry: mechanical engineering, aviation, medicine, electronics, agriculture, construction, etc.
The material is a complex organic compound obtained through chemical reactions. Their result: monolithic or honeycomb-structured panels and sheets with unique properties: transparent, strong, lightweight, flexible, fire-resistant, durable.
Cellular polycarbonate.
Monolithic sheets are used more in construction. They are distinguished by:
- high level of transparency comparable to glass. Confirmation - glasses lenses;
- light weight - almost 2 times lighter than glass;
- strength - can easily withstand blows from an axe;
- It doesn't burn, it melts like glass.
Monolithic polycarbonate.
The final touch: in space suits, the face shield is also polycarbonate.
Determining the cost
You can find out the exact price directly in the store, but you can check how much the indicated amount justifies the cost.
The price of a product consists of several factors:
- the dimensions of the window on which the installation will be made;
- type of design - blind or with an opening sash;
- vertical or horizontal slats;
- frame color scheme;
- The frame is assembled from ground or polished steel;
- the presence of decorative design, for example, stained glass;
- the size of the lamellas themselves.
Products made from polished stainless steel are slightly more expensive than polished blanks. Application of stained glass is also not a cheap procedure; it can cost up to 2,000 rubles per lamella.
Applied stained glass pattern
When making custom-made gratings in non-standard sizes, it is possible to increase the price by a third of the cost of the standards.
The costs for installers also consist of various parameters. It is easiest to install such protection on wooden structures, but concrete, brick or foam block buildings will require drilling, which will entail additional costs. We are talking not only about the applied forces and the time spent, but also about the wear of the tool, and the attachment will almost certainly no longer be operational.
Installation of non-standard blocks, work at sub-zero temperatures, and external assembly are more expensive.
The budget is increased by the additional services offered, which are undoubtedly very necessary for many. For example, dismantling an old grille, fastening it, installing an additional anchor, recycling old products.
Hiring installation specialists from companies significantly simplifies the installation process and involves extending the warranty to the service performed. Not everyone is able to safely work outside the house; many feel ill from unusual heights, so this approach significantly reduces possible risks.
If the floor is the first or second, then you can try to save on the services of professionals by assembling and fastening yourself. You must always follow the instructions, tighten the grilles tightly, and remember personal protection.

Features of polycarbonate gratings
In an effort to protect themselves from thieves and robbers, owners of housing, commercial premises, and household facilities cover window openings with metal bars. This, on the one hand, is reliable, on the other hand, it is cumbersome, difficult to fit into the architecture of the building (not everyone can order forged grilles with a beautiful design - the prices are prohibitive), the luminous flux decreases, and constant touch-up is required.
The polycarbonate grilles that replaced them are free of these disadvantages.
Features of protective structures
Products for protecting window openings are made of lightweight material, but in terms of strength and reliability they are not inferior to their metal counterparts. Their main advantage is that the architectural part of the facade is not disturbed. There are also no obstacles to the penetration of sunlight into the home. This provides good natural light, which makes the indoor microclimate comfortable.
In the production of gratings, a special type of plastic is taken as the basis - polycarbonate. It will not be possible to break the fencing elements even with an impact tool; the material is anti-vandal.
Several types of polycarbonate grilles are available: roller shutters, lamellas. Each product has its own advantages and disadvantages that must be taken into account during installation.
Characteristics
Polycarbonate window grilles have a good set of technical and operational indicators:
- tensile strength > 70 MPa;
- impact strength (characterizes both hardness and rigidity) - 20 kJ / m2;
- specific gravity (monolith) - 1.20 g/cm3;
- operating temperature - from -100oC to +135oC;
- light transmittance of the material - 90% ± 1%, lattice - 94-96%;
- water absorption coefficient - 0.1-0.2%;
- dimensions: thickness - 6 mm; strip width - 50 mm; distance between stripes - 90 mm; maximum dimensions - 250 x 250 cm;
- flammability class - G1 (low-flammability);
- flammability - B1 (low flammability).
Technical characteristics of polycarbonate
The equipment of lattice parts requires a main element in the form of plastic lamellas, which are mounted on a metal profile.
Assembly is carried out on the end side of the openings for tensioning to ensure maximum rigidity and strength of the structure.
A distance of 9 cm is left between each stiffening rib, which is enough so that neither an adult nor a child can squeeze through them.
The standard size of the product is 200 cm, but requires more fastenings than its metal counterpart.
Attachment points
It is possible to make the structure more decorative if each profiled fastener is covered with a second metal profile of the same type.
The dimensions of one polycarbonate plate are 6 mm in thickness and 5 cm in width. There is a 14 cm spacing between the fastening points. Screw dowels are used for work. A structure 2 m high will require 24 anchors.
pros
Among the advantages of polycarbonate gratings, the following should be highlighted:
- durability - service life of at least 10 years;
- affordable price for buyers with any income (the cost of 1 m2 without installation starts from $4.3);
- reliable fastening to the wall - ensured by a large number of fasteners. Unlike a metal grating, it will not be possible to tear it out of the wall;
- high strength - withstands a tensile load of about 713 kg/cm2. Enough to stop any robber;
- is not afraid of the influence of negative natural factors: smog, frost, ultraviolet radiation, rain and snow;
- easy care: easy to wash, no need to tint;
- good light transmission - the grille blocks only 4-6% of sunlight, which is 2-3 times less compared to its metal counterpart;
- a full view from the window is maintained;
- beautiful appearance that can fit into any architectural form;
- no permission required for installation in apartment buildings;
- light weight of the structure - the specific gravity of polycarbonate is almost 7 times less than that of steel;
- flexibility and elasticity - absorb blows with an ax;
- chemical resistance to the dirty air of industrial cities.
Another benefit that is rarely talked about: protection against children and pets falling from the window.
Specifics of protective functions
The peculiarity of polycarbonate is that the material has technical characteristics that are as close as possible to metal. But such a product is much lighter and does not require violating the integrity of the walls, which means that installation can be carried out regardless of the type of building.
An additional advantage of the raw material is the absence of an obstacle to the free passage of sunlight, which is very important for windows facing the shady side. Despite the transparency and lightness of the products, the slats provide the proper level of security, preventing attempts to break in with any tool, and do not break when hit with a bat or crowbar, allowing you to replace the iron grille.
The products are of the anti-vandal type, which means that it is not possible to break through the surface for penetration: you will have to put in a lot of effort and spend a lot of time to act on the material. However, even metal is not protected from all possible methods of penetration.
In the general interior
Some fabrication experts suggest home owners can verify reliability for themselves. To do this, the assembled frame is placed at a short distance from the floor, and the person is asked to stand on top. Polycarbonate not only can withstand the weight of an adult, but also does not deteriorate if it is slightly jumped on.
Strength test
There are several types of mesh, and during installation, in order to protect the living children, a pattern can be applied. Polycarbonate grilles are an excellent type of child protection.
Minuses
The material has disadvantages that manufacturers, sellers and specialized sites are silent about:
- When caring for the grille, you should avoid products containing ammonia and ethyl alcohol - the material quickly deteriorates;
- when applying paint, it is mandatory to check for compatibility with the solvent;
- silicone sealant melts polycarbonate;
- upon contact with gasoline, kerosene, aniline, varnishes, many types of solvents, as well as some types of glue, it is destroyed.
Advantages of grilles made of transparent material
The products are incredibly popular among residents of big cities and small towns due to the following advantages:
• transparency does not prevent the penetration of light into the room;
• the panoramic view from the window is not distorted due to heavy metal grille elements;
• high aesthetic indicators, originality when decorating a window with such protection;
• the material can withstand shock and force loads (up to 50 kg) no worse than steel;
• resistance of polycarbonate to atmospheric factors;
• transparent protective structures are an ideal solution for rooms whose windows face north, solving the problem of lack of natural light
• easy maintenance; regular surface treatment with paint and other protective coatings is not required.
Installing transparent grilles eliminates paperwork, since permission to carry out installation work with such material is not required.
Types of polycarbonate window grilles
Transparent grilles for polycarbonate windows can be of several types. The criteria for classification are:
- arrangement of stripes relative to the window: horizontal, vertical;
- method of operation - solid grille, with an opening flap, hinged;
- presence of decoration - transparent, stained glass.
Grilles with horizontal lamellas are ordered most often. There are several reasons: convenient side mounting, the eyes quickly get used to it, as a result of which, on a subconscious level, the transparent material is no longer perceived; the slits can be placed at a level convenient for vision.
Vertical stripes on the outside are less noticeable. Therefore, they are used when it is necessary to maintain a single architectural style or the desire of the property owner.
An opening door is needed to evacuate people in the event of an unforeseen situation. Customers ignore this fire safety requirement and order blind grilles. People say: “God protects those who are careful.” Therefore, it is better to install a grille with an opening sash on one of the windows (a little more expensive, but does not affect the protective functions), especially since this is easier to do than when ordering protection from metal rods.
Hinged grilles are similar in design to shutters. They are placed mainly in houses and cottages on windows with beautiful views of nature. They keep it open all the time. Close if necessary.
Stained glass grilles can be ordered or painted independently with paints for exterior use, having first checked the interaction of the components of the coloring matter with polycarbonate.
Designers advise placing finished drawings and ornaments on one strip. In this case, the images can be on each lamella or alternate.
Stained glass windows allow you to enliven the facade and change the interior of the room. Therefore, you need to approach the coloring of the lattice thoughtfully, assessing the impact of color and patterns on the building from the outside and the room from the inside. When choosing painted grilles, you need to take into account an important nuance: the light transmittance of polycarbonate decreases: the more paint, the less sun. Therefore, you should not get carried away with decorative effects.
Features of polycarbonate window grilles: photos and parameters of products with slats
Plastic grilles differ from metal structures not only in the material they are made of, but also in their configuration. Polycarbonate is completely transparent, so the slats do not interfere with the penetration of sunlight into the room and do not spoil the view. Photos of beautiful windows can be found in large quantities on the Internet; plastic grilles on them look aesthetically pleasing and elegant.
From the outside, plastic structures look fragile, but polycarbonate slats are very durable. This type of material can easily withstand mechanical loads and directed impacts, for example, if a stone or ball flies through the window. Plastic elements do not break, they cannot be bent, so the house is under reliable protection from the entry of strangers.
Helpful advice! It is advisable to install transparent grilles on windows that face the north side, where the level of natural light is very low. They will help solve the problem of lack of sunlight.
Installing vertical polycarbonate grilles will allow you to make the window sash hinged, which horizontal models cannot provide
Advantages of protective grilles for polycarbonate windows
The standard thickness of the lamellas is 6 mm. This indicator is quite enough for the structures to provide full protection against burglary. The cost of window bars depends on various factors. Parameters such as the height of the lamellas, their length, as well as the distance between them are determined individually, taking into account the dimensions of the window. Therefore, products are made to order according to measurements.
Advantages of transparent grilles for polycarbonate windows:
- The structures can withstand high weight loads (up to 500 kg).
- Neat and attractive appearance.
- Resistance to negative atmospheric factors (corrosion, low temperatures, ultraviolet radiation).
- A simple maintenance system that does not require additional treatment of structures using dye or other protective agents.
- Reliable level of fixation due to a large number of fasteners.
- Installation of bars on windows does not require permission from authorities.
The lamellas of the polycarbonate grating are arranged parallel at a certain distance from each other
Polycarbonate belongs to the category of materials obtained artificially. Therefore, he is not afraid of constant contact with water, the influence of frost and dampness. Such structures successfully withstand any weather and seasonal changes.
Polycarbonate fences are most often installed as anti-burglary bars on first floor windows. But this is not their only function. In apartments located on high floors, they are used to protect against accidents. The slats protect residents from falling out of windows. This advantage will be useful to those consumers who have pets or small children at home, and even basic window cleaning with such bars turns into a safe activity.
The plastic slats are as transparent as glass. At the same time, they are 250 times stronger. Despite the high strength, the structural elements have retained their flexibility, which allows them to withstand blows from an axe, bat or hammer. Fire safety is another advantageous feature of polycarbonate window grilles. Sheet plastic does not support combustion. In the event of a fire, this material melts slowly.
Plastic window grilles can be mounted on both windows and doors, which is especially important for office premises
Technical characteristics of polycarbonate window grilles
Plastic slats serve as the basis for transparent protective grilles on windows. These elements are fixed in metal profiles, which are installed in the side parts of the window openings. And this is done at a stretch. The fastenings are located in increments of 14 cm. For decorative purposes, each fastening profile is overlapped by another.
To protect metal elements from corrosion, a coating in the form of powder paint is used. Manufacturers offer a wide selection of colors. There are models on sale in which the profiles are made of stainless steel, which is pre-polished or ground.
Interesting fact! Polycarbonate is used to make face shields in space suits, proving its durability and practicality.
With a thickness of 6 mm, the plastic slats on the window grilles are 5 cm wide. These elements are usually located in increments of 9 cm. Screw dowel nails are used for fixation. The standard height of the grille is 200 cm. To secure such a structure, 12 anchors will be required on each side. For comparison, metal gratings are fixed with 2-3 fasteners, which is why they are so easy to break off, along with a piece of the wall.
From a certain viewing angle, bars are visible on the windows, but this does not spoil the appearance of the house
Types of plastic grilles for windows: common design options
Manufacturers offer several options for products of different configurations. On sale you can find beautiful window grilles with horizontal or vertical placement of slats.
Structures with vertically positioned lamellas are used in cases where it is extremely important to preserve the architectural style of the building. In addition, they are used as an alternative solution if the installation of fasteners for horizontal elements is complicated by any conditions.
Most often, apartment owners resort to installing bars on windows on the first floor with horizontal slats. The popularity of such structures is due to the simple installation system.
In addition to standard designs, you can find on sale grilles equipped with opening doors, as well as products that swing open entirely. These products not only increase operating comfort, but also increase the degree of fire safety of apartments and country houses. Opening structures are just as reliable as solid options. Manufacturers equip the opening segments of grilles with mortise locks. Thanks to this, the security fence cannot be opened from the street.
Horizontal slats of polycarbonate grilles are perfect for fixed sashes or sliding windows
Some manufacturing companies offer customers the opportunity to order designs with opening doors that have lugs designed to install padlocks.
Features of decorative grilles for windows: photos of products with stained glass
Stained glass is one of the options for decorative design of polycarbonate using drawings. Provided the correct choice of technology and the pattern itself, such a design will become a worthy decoration not only for a plastic window on the street side, but also for the interior of the room. Using this technology, you can create a unique and unique design.
In the photos of window grilles that are found on the Internet, you can see a wide variety of images in the form of stained glass:
- geometric patterns;
- fantastic animals;
- all kinds of ornaments;
- heroes of fairy tales, etc.
Polycarbonate gratings with stained glass windows will give the building's exterior an original and unique look
The dye used to create stained glass designs has weather-resistant properties. They are environmentally friendly and safe, and are not afraid of ultraviolet radiation. Moreover, the choice of colors is almost unlimited.
Note! Stained glass windows on the lamellas of window grilles are created using pouring. This technology has nothing to do with glass painting; it is a simplified imitation of the famous Tiffany technique. A distinctive feature of these stained glass windows is the presence of a relief contour, which looks like a metal broach.
Depending on the customer’s wishes, the design can be applied to all lamellas or partially (to one or several). Patterns on plastic elements can be combined and alternated in any order. In some cases, the buyer may be offered to apply their own design to the grille. Each proposed design option is considered individually, as the manufacturer's technical department must approve it.
The pattern on the laminates of plastic window grilles will decorate the interior, which is especially important for a child’s room
How much do bars cost for polycarbonate windows?
The frame into which the polycarbonate slats are inserted is painted in a color according to the RAL scale. The standard palette has more than 15 shades.

Professional installation of window bars: prices for specialist services
Work on installing polycarbonate gratings can be carried out at any time of the year. Installation of a structure is a responsible technological process that is not without certain nuances. The installation procedure depends on the material from which the walls of the window opening are made. Anchor bolts are used to install grilles in city apartments.
This type of fastener is installed at the end of the structure and is suitable for buildings with walls made of the following materials:
- concrete;
- brick;
- blocks.
The process of installing polycarbonate grilles on windows is not complicated; you can do it yourself
For openings with a wooden base, which are typical for country and private houses, special self-tapping screws are used. They are called wood grouse. These fasteners are installed on each side of the grille in 14 cm increments.
Note! If desired, you can install the gratings yourself without the help of specialists. However, in this case, the manufacturer does not provide a guarantee for its products. In addition, the reliability of the protective fence depends on the quality and accuracy of the work performed, so it is advisable not to take risks and use the services of professionals.
Cost of installing bars on windows (prices for professional services):
Name of service | Price, rub./piece |
Standard installation | 2300 |
Installation with on-site assembly | 3700 |
Installation according to the standard scheme is carried out in cases where there are no restrictions on the work of specialists. If the window has partitions and it is not possible to pull the grille through the opening, it is assembled locally. This uses screws. To do this, a channel is installed in the window opening. After that, lamellas are mounted to it using screws, and then the grille is stretched. The same procedure is followed if the apartment is on a high floor and there is no way to raise the structure from the street.
In addition, consumers are provided with additional services that require additional payment for work under certain conditions.

Installation nuances
The technology for installing polycarbonate gratings is not complicated, although professionals do not think so. Practice shows that all operations can be performed with your own hands. For this you will need:
- hammer drill or electric drill (needed for brick, concrete, foam or aerated concrete walls);
- diamond or pobedit drill;
- anchor bolts;
- level;
- wood grouse screws for wooden houses;
- key for self-tapping screws;
- construction pencil or marker.
The work is performed according to the following algorithm:
- the grille is assembled according to the scheme specified in the manufacturer’s instructions;
Important: the protective film is removed after completion of installation work. If removed in advance, it will not be possible to return it to the seller if a defect is discovered.
- the dimensions of the window block and the assembled structure are checked - there should be a technological gap of 5-10 mm around the entire perimeter between the wall and the grille;
- decorative covers are removed from both sides, moved to the center and fastened with tape - they should not interfere with the fixation of the structure;
- the grille is installed in the opening. Using a level, it can be adjusted horizontally and vertically;
- marks are made on the wall for fasteners;
- the grille is removed, holes for fasteners are drilled according to the marks;
- the grille is reinstalled and secured. Fixation is free;
- the position of the grille is checked again relative to the plane of the window and the bottom of the opening;
- the fasteners are tightened;
- decorative strips are returned to their place;
- the protective film is removed.
Important: When performing work above the second floor, you need to take safety measures. The easiest way is to fasten a safety belt to the radiator.
Polycarbonate gratings: installation features
Plastic transparent grilles on windows are usually installed ready-made.
That is, they are delivered to the site disassembled. Before installation, first twist the frame and secure the slats. Then the grille is attached to the opening. However, there are situations when the window design does not allow a fully assembled product to be passed through the light openings. In such cases, installation must be carried out element by element. Moreover, the method of attaching the grille must be correctly determined at the measurement stage, so that there are no “surprises” during installation. Polycarbonate gratings are suitable for installation in houses with any walls. They can be firmly fixed in brick, concrete, foam blocks and even wood. To securely fix the frame, different types of fastenings are used:
- self-tapping screws;
- anchor bolts.
Self-tapping screws are necessary to secure grilles in openings with a wooden base. Before installing these reinforced fasteners, holes are pre-drilled in the slopes at 140 mm pitches. For walls made of concrete, foam blocks and bricks, anchor bolts are used. On average, up to 14 fastening elements are used per window.
When ordering gratings, you can refuse the installation service and perform the installation yourself. However, it is better not to do this, since the procedure seems simple only at first glance. There are many nuances in this matter, so it is better to entrust the installation to specialists.
Popular manufacturers
In Russia, many companies produce transparent protective grilles. The most famous:
- "PolyProtect";
- "Lamella"
- "Polygal East".
"PolyProtect". The Russian one dates back to 2016. In a short period of time, it has won the trust of consumers with high quality products and a flexible pricing policy. The created dealer network helps promote the product in Russia.
Protective grilles have many advantages:
- high level of transparency;
- strength;
- no restrictions on use;
- beautiful appearance.
Disadvantages include instability to some chemically aggressive liquids.
"Lamella". The company producing window grilles “Lamella” is a structural division of Institute of Innovation LLC. The manufactured products have proven themselves well among consumers. Buyers especially like the design. It can be ordered according to an individual project or you can use existing designs and ornaments. The manufacturers' feature is laser engraving of the lamellas.
"Polygal East". The Polygal Vostok brand appeared thanks to the Israeli. The company bases its work on the satisfaction of the end consumer's product. Hence the high quality, beautiful design, ease of processing and installation.
Types of plastic gratings
Modern manufacturers offer a wide range of different models of polycarbonate protection.
There are inserts with slats directed vertically or horizontally, with folding doors, and mortise locks.
Most often, the first type of product is purchased, since horizontal is easier to install and has less impact on the overall appearance of the building.
Horizontal products
Vertical modification is used only for the purpose of preserving the architectural solutions of the building, to complement the design, or when it is not possible to assemble horizontal lines for technical reasons.
Vertical products
There are products with applied stained glass patterns; any image can be made to order. Thus, the result will be not just a safe, but also a beautiful, aesthetically pleasing home.
Stained glass drawing
The dyes used are fully adapted to the conditions of temperature changes, precipitation, frost or heat. The environmentally friendly composition does not emit any substances even with prolonged exposure to ultraviolet radiation.
Some manufacturers offer to purchase an installation with built-in “ears” for a padlock for drop-down parts.
Is it possible to do it yourself?
Home craftsmen can make polycarbonate grilles themselves. In terms of strength, it will not be inferior to the factory one; in terms of design, it may be a little worse, but not because of the slats, but because of the metal frame.
To work, you need to learn how to cut strips and attach them to metal. In this case, you need to observe the dimensions of the lamellas and the distance between them (see photo).
Standard grille sizes.
The work requires patience and care - hand cutting is difficult. A small mistake can lead to an irreparable marriage.
Some craftsmen solve the problem more simply - they do not attach a lattice, but a whole monolithic sheet. In this case, only the illumination of the room suffers - lower. There is no difference in other parameters - lattice or solid sheet.
Scope of application of gratings
Polycarbonate products are excellent for use on windows of commercial buildings, apartment buildings, private houses or cottages.
Durable bars are installed on the windows of non-residential rooms, for example, warehouses.
The tension of the raw material makes it possible to withstand a load of up to 500 kg, which means it is perfect for protecting windows not only from attack from the outside, but also prevents a child from falling out of it.
Child protection
The design is a highly durable way to secure a home, which is not inferior in characteristics to analogues made from other types of raw materials.
More details about the relationship between the products and the overall interior can be seen in the following video:
OPERATION AND CARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR GRILLES
PolyProtect. Using the simplest methods, you can ensure a long service life of the product, preservation of its appearance, as well as protection from the harmful effects of the environment. Only if you follow simple requirements can you achieve a clean surface on the lamellas and shine on stainless steel.
CARE RULES for PolyProtect gratings.
Caring for the decorative cover.
Stainless steel does not rust if the alloying composition is correctly selected. All stainless elements are made of high-alloy steel and can be used in urban environments with increased industrial activity and a high content of combustion products and exhaust gases.
In the absence of an additional layer of protection (such as INOXOL or similar), particles of impurities from the air enter the pores of the surface of the stainless steel profile, which contribute to changes in the color of the surface and disruption of appearance.
Clean the surface of the profile - the frequency of the process depends on factors such as operating conditions, hygiene of the grille location and environmental factors. Apply a protective layer (such as INOXOL or similar) twice a month or more often, provided that the grilles are located near highways or in the immediate vicinity of an industrial plant with harmful emissions.
For daily care of stainless steel, simply wipe with a damp cloth. We recommend using a 3m Scotch-Brite 60 microfiber cloth. First, you clean the structural element with a damp cloth (can be moistened with regular detergent), then wipe dry with a soft, porous, lint-free cloth. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Use only a certified product for cleaning stainless steel, purchasing it from specialized stores.
Caring for polycarbonate slats.
The protective film must be removed immediately after installation. Welding work near polycarbonate gratings should be avoided. Remains of paint, cement, etc. must be removed immediately from the polycarbonate before they dry.
Decorative covers and polycarbonate slats are cleaned with water or, in case of heavy contamination, with a mild soap solution. After cleaning, the soap solution must be rinsed with water, and drops of water should be wiped off with a soft 100% cotton cloth.
The use of solvents, window cleaners, substances containing ammonia, caustic alkali, chlorine and other chemically active agents is not allowed.
What material are grilles for plastic windows made of?
- Structural steel is the least durable, but not expensive;
- Made from reinforcing steel - the strength is approximately 50% higher than structural steel. To cut the reinforcing bar, you will need a special tool, in particular hydraulic shears. A reinforced steel grill on a PVC window will serve as a reliable barrier for criminals, but the reduced elasticity of the material will not allow the production of a beautiful structure with an ornate pattern.
- Made from special steel - very durable and expensive. You can make a grate with thin and ultra-strong rods that can only be succumbed to a plasma cutter. For a thief, this is not an insurmountable obstacle.
When choosing a grille for windows, it is important to take into account the distance between the bars so that it is at least 15 cm, and the thickness of the steel profile is at least 15 mm.
The type of profile for window grilles comes in three types:
- Square section (for example, 14x14 or 16x16 mm);
- Rod (diameter 12-20 mm), obtained by rolling or pressing;
- Rectangular strip.
