How to glaze a balcony of series 137 at home? Prices and correct installation.

In the houses of the 137th series, almost all apartments have balconies or loggias. In the houses of this series there are balconies with a curve on one or two sides, there are also rectangular balconies, as well as loggias.

Loggias and balconies most often have a length from 3 to 6 meters, the width is almost always about 90 centimeters. Loggias more than 1 meter wide are rarely found. In many houses there are loggias that go around the corner of the building and have a glazing length of about 12 meters. Almost always, roof installation is required on the top floors, but sometimes roof installation is also necessary on the floors below.

The fencing of balconies and loggias is most often made in the form of a thin concrete slab approximately 50-60 centimeters wide and handrails made of metal structures. With this type of fencing on rounded balconies, the concrete slab is thin, about 4 centimeters. And in order to securely fasten the glazing, reinforcement of the semicircle will be required, and therefore welding work.

In houses with this fencing option, we offer several options for installing glazing:

Install the glazing directly on the railing, and close the gap to the concrete with a metal strip (the most common and budget option)

Cut off the railings, strengthen the concrete slabs and weld them with a metal corner.

The second option is more expensive, but allows you to install higher glazing or leave an imitation of railings, dividing the windows with transoms.

All proposed options allow you to firmly secure the structure, and you can be confident in the safety and reliability of the installed glazing.

In newer houses of the 137th series, the parapet is made of a thick concrete fence and some balconies are not semicircular, but trapezoidal. On such balconies, reinforcement and welding are not required to install glazing.

The thickness of the fence in such houses is 10-12 centimeters and allows you to easily install almost any glazing option.

This fence does not have metal railings and it is not possible to install high glazing with transoms here.

Below we will look at the most common options for balconies and loggias in a house of the 137th series, and also give prices for finishing and glazing.

Glazing and finishing of balconies and loggias in houses of the 137th series

The peculiarity of the houses of the 137th series is that absolutely every apartment here has a balcony or loggia, and some even have two. The width of the loggias is usually no more than 90 cm, although in some cases you can see a width of 1.2 meters. In addition, some apartments have a balcony that wraps around the corner of the building. In this case, the total glazing perimeter is 12 meters. The length of the loggias is different and can be 3, 3.5, 6 meters. The last option combines two rooms in one apartment with separate entrances from each. Quite often, a roof installation is required. This is especially true for upper floors. The fencing of the loggias of this series of houses is, as a rule, a concrete parapet with railings, or a solid concrete parapet, if we are talking about a “rounded” loggia that goes around the corner of the house. And the connection of this parapet to the wall of the house is already made using a metal lattice.

Which glazing is best for you?

Depending on financial capabilities, configuration and size of the balcony, consumers can choose one of the glazing options offered by window companies:

  • 3 sashes - 1 tilt-and-turn, 2 blind;
  • 4 sashes - 2 tilt-and-turn, 2 fixed;
  • 5 sashes - 3 tilt-and-turn, 2 blind;
  • 8 sashes - 4 tilt-and-turn, 4 blind.

It is possible to install hinged and sliding doors, the maximum size of which is 270 cm in height and 150 cm in width.

When choosing the type of glazing and window opening system, you should focus on the following criteria:

  1. Usable area of the room . If it is 3-4 m², then there is no point in investing in expensive glazing and finishing. Cool aluminum frames are sufficient to protect the interior from wind, dust, precipitation, birds and insects. The balcony can be used for purely economic purposes. For more spacious structures, you can choose a warm profile with sliding doors. It is advisable to equip such premises as functional areas for carrying out any type of life activity.
  2. Width of the structure. The total length of a balcony and loggia in one apartment can be up to 12 m. Considering the cost of panels and installers’ services, you can save by glazing one structure or half of the longest room. This solution will allow you to allocate part of the balcony for a living area, and use the remaining area as a warehouse and for drying clothes. You can finish the rest of the perimeter later, as money becomes available.
  3. Area of the apartment or kitchen . If it is insufficient for comfortable living, then expansion is carried out by adding a balcony or loggia. In this case, such techniques as removing the facade or a high roof on the top floor of the building are used, which makes it possible to arrange storage rooms and cabinets on the second tier.

Types of glazing

The glazing in houses of the 137 series can be cold sliding, which is most popular among customers, or warm, using Veka double-glazed windows. In such houses it is quite possible to install frameless glazing. In this option, the balcony will be as bright as possible, and the windows themselves will not only be sliding, but it will also be possible to simply assemble all the windows to one side in the form of a book, providing full access to the street and maximum flow of fresh air. Frameless glazing can be mounted not only in a straight line, but also around the corner of the house along with the loggia itself.

Glazing options for 137 series

All the options presented below have high strength, durability, and fire safety. They are an excellent barrier between the street and the room, protecting against any precipitation, wind, dust and dirt. The color schemes of the profiles (where they are used) may also vary. You can purchase films to change the color of glass or protect the room from active sunlight and ultraviolet radiation.

We offer three options for “cold” glazing.

They save space on the balcony due to the sliding system for opening the doors. But they retain heat poorly and do not have the highest sound insulation rate.

“Warm” glazing includes metal-plastic windows and double-glazed windows.

    Our recommendations

Balconies and loggias in houses of the 137 series are distinguished by a wide variety of shapes and sizes. The fences are durable and allow you to install not only cold aluminum, but also warm metal-plastic glazing with subsequent insulation and finishing.

    • We recommend aluminum sliding structures as an inexpensive glazing option. In addition to their low cost, their advantages include: the convenience of sliding opening and wide light openings.
    • When glazing with metal-plastic, you should not divide the structures often. Frequent glazing reduces the amount of daylight on the balcony and increases the cost.
    • For small balconies and loggias, the removal of glazing is relevant. Remote structures in houses of the 137 series allow the installation of wide window sills (250-300 mm wide), which adds functionality and spaciousness to the room.
    • We recommend equipping the glazing with additional equipment, such as: sun blinds - if necessary, they completely cover the light openings and prevent overheating of the balcony; child locks - this is a simple device that blocks unauthorized swing opening of the doors; removable mosquito nets protecting against flying insects, dust and poplar fluff.

Where to start finishing the balcony

If you decide to fully insulate the suspended structure, then the first step is to install glazing. The “warmest” and optimal in its price category is an option made from a metal-plastic profile. But here we are faced with another remarkable feature of the balconies of this series: the presence of a metal handrail at a height of 300-350 mm. You can cut it down, thereby increasing the glazing area and adding daylight, or “beat” it: install glazed transoms or completely cover this area with dense material.

Another point that makes working with the balconies of series 137 houses a little more difficult is the rounded part of the balcony. In this place it is necessary to install a bay window connection, which slightly increases the cost of the glazing process. But this is a production necessity, otherwise the structure will not be airtight, there will be drafts and ice on the windows in winter.

    Types of finishing

There are various types of interior finishing for the 137 series loggia, used for work in heated and cold rooms. For warm loggias, materials are selected that are used when carrying out renovations in living rooms.

To design structures with cold profiles, materials that are resistant to changes in temperature and humidity are required.

A system for collecting condensate from the sashes should be provided in advance.

The finishing of the 137 series balcony can be done in the following ways:

    1. Floor . The supporting slab can be covered with ceramic tiles with heating elements placed under the cladding. A good option is to pave the floor with solid and engineered boards, parquet or laminate. The most inexpensive material is insulated linoleum.
    2. Walls . Cold loggias are pre-insulated with polystyrene foam or stone wool. As a finishing coating, plaster, plastic or wood panels, ceramic tiles or drywall are used, followed by painting. Inside warm balconies you can use washable, cork or liquid wallpaper.
    3. Ceiling . For cold rooms it is better to use suspended structures - plastic panels, metal slats, Armstrong tile systems. For insulated balconies, in addition to the options listed, you can use painted plaster or tension fabrics. The advantage of suspended structures is the possibility of installing insulation and internal lamps (you can read more about insulating the ceiling on a balcony in our other article).

Exterior decoration of balconies 137 series

Conventional siding or, for example, plastic panels are not installed in houses of this series, because the concrete balcony parapet itself already has a fairly durable and quite aesthetic appearance. The maximum that is sealed is the transom. The main insulation of balconies in houses of this series is carried out internally.

But if we talk about the last floor of the house, then there will need to be a roof installed and insulated above the balcony, before all work on glazing and finishing the curtain structure begins.

Removal of glazing in the house of the 137th series

Most often, in houses of the 137th series, removals are made according to the level of the fence; the price of removal in the standard version is from 18,000 rubles .

Removal along the slab is done very rarely, due to the complex and expensive complete dismantling of the fencing of a balcony or loggia. Please check the technical feasibility and cost of such work by phone. You can read more about remote glazing in the section “Remote glazing and balcony expansion” .

Methods for installing balcony glazing in series 137

    • Installation of glazing on the railing, followed by sewing a metal strip under the railing. This is the most common installation method. The frames are installed on railings spaced 20-25 centimeters from the concrete slab. The space between the railings and the concrete slab is covered from the street with a strip of galvanized steel.
    • Installation of glazing on a concrete slab with cutting of railings. This method of installation will make the balcony the brightest. The railings are cut off, thereby increasing the height of the frames. The frames are made from bottom to top as solid panoramic ones, or with small transoms at the bottom.
    • Installation of glazing with removal. Removal in series 137 is carried out along the window sill (along the railing). To do this, triangular consoles are welded to the handrail, which are then covered with a metal sheet from the street. The glazing is extended towards the street by 25-35 centimeters, making it possible to install a wide window sill without losing the internal space.
    • For rounded balconies in the 137 series there are several options for glazing the rounded part. Typically, glazing consists of two or three sections; less often, one frame is used, installed at an angle of 45 degrees.
