The installation of installation seams of junctions of window and balcony blocks to wall openings must be carried out in accordance with the requirements of GOST 30971 “Installation seams of junctions of window blocks to wall openings”, as well as in accordance with working drawings and standard technological maps. The seam must meet the following requirements:
Ensuring reliable fastening of the window unit to the wall; |
Ensuring the required temperature and humidity conditions at the junction of the window frame and the wall. In this case, the window unit must be installed in such a way as to avoid freezing of the window slopes and the frame profile itself; |
Density and tightness; |
Low thermal conductivity and high durability; |
Susceptibility to thermal expansion and contraction of the window unit without loss of tightness. |

REHAU
If the distance between the stand profile and the load-bearing wall is less than 40 mm, then PSUL can be used; if this distance is more than 40 mm, then a diffusion tape with similar properties is used.
Figure 1 - Schematic diagram of the installation seam. |
The assembly seam must consist of three layers:
1. external
— waterproof, vapor-permeable;
2. central
— thermal insulation;
3. internal
- vapor barrier.
Outer layer
The installation seam must be waterproof when exposed to rain, resistant to ultraviolet radiation and temperatures from -35 to +70°C.
Central layer
must provide the specified resistance to heat transfer of the assembly seam and the necessary sound insulation. The central layer must be made without voids, cracks, peeling and overflows. Shells larger than 10 mm are not allowed.
Inner layer
must be sealed and provide reliable insulation of the materials of the central layer from the effects of water vapor from the room and prevent the penetration of moisture from the wall onto the internal slope of the opening.
PVC windows have a large number of required attachment points at which fasteners are installed. In Fig. Figure 2 shows the fastening scheme adopted by most manufacturers of profiles with a fastening step of 700.
The minimum distances between fastening elements should not exceed:
- for white PVC profile boxes: 700 mm;
- for boxes made of colored PVC profiles: 600 mm;
- distances from the inner corner of the window block: 150 - 250 mm;
- impost connection to the fastening element: 120 - 180 mm.
Insulation of plastic windows
Despite the reliability and durability of plastic windows, they can still deteriorate over time, losing their original characteristics. Microcracks may appear at the junction of the glass unit and the profile, through which street air, dust and noise can penetrate. If heat loss has reached its maximum level, and the reason for this is the windows, then it is necessary to insulate the windows as quickly as possible.
The number of possible options for insulating plastic windows is quite large, and, as a rule, is determined by the design features of the window, or the nature of heat loss, for example, this may be due to wear and tear of window structural elements, loss of tightness, or violation of adjustment.
Causes
First of all, let’s figure out why window insulation may be required. It can be:
- Drafts (blowing from the window);
- Condensation or ice on the glass;
- Mold on the frame or window area;
- Low temperature near the window.
Each of these problems can be caused by different faults:
- poor quality, damaged or worn seal;
- unadjusted sash or loose mechanism (weak sash pressure);
- non-compliance with the rules for sealing seams when installing windows (the junction of the frame to the window opening or the glass unit to the frame in the area of glazing beads is not sealed);
- defects in the PVC profile or initially incorrectly selected equipment (weak profile or cold glass formula);
- violation of the geometry of the entire window structure;
- Incorrect microclimate of the room (violations with humidity, heating and ventilation of the room).
As you can see, the list is very extensive and, moreover, faults can be present in any combination.
To determine the reasons for the need to insulate windows and eliminate them, it is necessary to carry out diagnostics. Next, if necessary, adjust the fittings and determine how tightly the sashes fit to the frame - the fit should be without gaps. It is also necessary to check the quality and condition of the installed sealing rubber bands. If they are heavily worn or have visible defects, they must be replaced.
One of the most common reasons is cracks, which can appear due to poor window installation, foam spillage, or a decrease in the window's thermal insulation properties. To eliminate cracks, it is necessary to remove the old foam and reseal the window opening. If a single-chamber double-glazed window is installed in a window, then to insulate the window it is necessary to change it to a double-glazed or energy-efficient one, since the double-glazed window occupies a large area of the window through which heat loss occurs.
Replacing the seal
- preliminary inspection of the structure;
- dismantling the sashes;
- milling a profile groove;
- laying the seal in the groove;
- installation of sashes;
- adjusting the flaps to ensure that the seal is pressed tightly.
The work will take: several hours .
Window adjustment
Modern houses can shrink for many years after construction. Also, the products themselves may experience deformation over time due to the aging of materials and compounds. That is why manufacturers recommend adjusting plastic windows every 2 years.
Periodic adjustments will preserve most mechanisms, such as window handles and locking mechanisms, as well as window components (for example, seals) and prevent more serious problems such as sagging or loose fittings.
The work will take: from 1 to several hours .
Insulation of window slopes
Improper finishing of slopes can lead to increased breathability of plastic windows. The window may blow out due to leaks at the junction of the frame and the slopes. Insulating the slopes will help solve the problem.
Plastic-lined slopes can easily be insulated. The space between the frame and the wall can be insulated with construction foam, foam materials that serve for thermal insulation, or slab basalt fiber. The result of the work can be secured with insulating material on the outside and inside of the window. The insulating material will also prevent adverse atmospheric influences on the insulation. To insulate slopes, there are many different insulating boards, for example, made of plasterboard, polyurethane foam, mineral wool and other materials. The remaining insulation from the slopes can be used to insulate the window frame.
The work will take: up to 2 days .
Window sill insulation
Along with slopes, a common cause of problems in winter is the window sill and its poor-quality installation. To insulate the windows in the lower part, we will dismantle the window sill slab, remove the old sealant, seal the seam between the frame and the wall of the window opening, and fill the entire space under the slab with foam (it is extremely important to do this efficiently, not sparing the foam).
The work will take: 1 day .
At what stage of renovation should windows be installed - before or after plastering?
Ideally, window profiles should be installed after the “wet” finishing is completed and before the façade design is completed. In practice, the order of work is often different due to the need or desire of homeowners to move into the house as quickly as possible.
Before plastering the walls
When finishing in spring-summer, window systems can be installed before the start of “wet” work. They need to be shielded with protective film. Another option to protect structures is to remove the sash from the opening during plastering and carefully close the frames.
After installing the windows, you can plaster the corners and slopes, then, covering the structures with a special film, cover the remaining sections of the walls with plaster. Plastering must be done when the room temperature is above 5 °C. In the winter season, before plastering, you need to install Euro-windows or PVC windows. Install wooden profiles after waiting for the plaster to dry completely.

Considering that during the operation of solid PVC it expands/contracts during heating/cooling (which is about 3 mm per 1 m of profile length), installation seams must be made in such a way that when moving the box, no cracks or gaps are formed in the seal.
The minimum width of the installation seam, depending on the type of seam and the size of the window, is shown in the diagrams below. When using sealants and sealing tapes, you must also follow the manufacturer's recommendations.
If the width of the installation seam exceeds the required value, it is necessary to use additional profiles. An example of using an additional profile is shown in Fig. 3.

Insulating windows yourself
As you may have noticed, this procedure requires very extensive knowledge and skills in the field of window repair. Moreover, it is very important to understand why this or that step is being done: you can adjust the windows according to instructions from the Internet (not all of them are relevant, believe us), replace the seal, even try to seal the slopes or window sill. But it is far from a fact that the effort and money you expended will bring the desired result.
Without knowledge of the specifics of the functioning of the entire window system of a particular brand, your efforts and resources may go to waste. Moreover, you can aggravate the situation and cause serious damage , because a modern double-glazed window is a complex and complex mechanism!
Contact our company for help - and you won’t have a headache about finding quality materials and the right instructions, and you will be able to do something really enjoyable in warmth and comfort.
High-quality preparation of the window opening
A properly prepared window opening is half the success in ensuring decent performance. Old window openings may be replete with loose plaster, while new ones do not always have the correct geometry and optimal dimensions.
Regardless of the age of the building, window openings are often not located at the same level. The difference in height between two adjacent openings can reach several centimeters, which is very noticeable even with the naked eye.
To level window openings in height, there is a ready-made solution in the form of REHAU support blocks. The durable plastic from which these pads are made allows you to level not only the horizontal, but also the vertical level. At the same time, the use of pads ensures that over time the window will not sag under its own weight. And its weight, by the way, in standard configuration often exceeds 50 kg.
If the level differences are too strong, special plaster compounds are used to increase the height. If, on the contrary, any part of the window opening needs to be removed, the installers must have the appropriate tools (saws, jackhammers, etc.). The same applies to the preparation of the top and side surfaces of the window opening.

Slope finishing
When purchasing and installing plastic windows, it is extremely important to decide on the option for finishing the slopes, which will directly determine the tightness and reliability of the entire structure. There are several most common methods, and knowing the advantages and disadvantages of each, you can make your own choice. provides services for finishing window slopes. Our specialists will complete the entire range of work within the agreed time frame, ensuring the best quality of work.
Finish types
Plastering , which implies the presence of four layers: the plaster itself, putty, priming and applying a decorative layer of paint.
The advantages of this method are the simplicity and aesthetic appeal of the final result.
But the disadvantages are worth discussing in more detail:
- low thermal insulation;
- the possibility of cracks appearing around the perimeter as a result of temperature changes. The only way to avoid this is to make a shallow groove where the plaster meets the frame and fill it with white polyurethane or acrylic sealant, then paint the entire surface. Also, cracks can appear almost anywhere - sheets of fiberglass are used for this;
- The appearance of contamination on the paint entails the need for repainting.
Thus, this type of slope finishing has several rather significant “cons”: a maximum production time and, with improper care, a relatively short service life (at least if we talk about preserving the original condition).
Drywall.
Externally, this finish is quite similar to plaster, but the process itself is much simpler and faster (there are no layers of plaster and putty). The only thing is that to install the insulation you will have to use a frame or a combination of frame and glue.
Reviews from our clients

It started to get colder and we realized that there was a draft from the windows. The husband said that somewhere there the foam was burned from the sun or something like that. He said he would do it, but he couldn’t get around to it. As a result, we decided to order window insulation from a professional. The choice fell on “Window Repair Service”; we once ordered a glass unit replacement from them. Just like last time, everything is fast, high quality and inexpensive. Thanks guys, you are awesome!

The window had to be prepared before winter, otherwise it froze during the severe frosts last year. The children advised. Everything was checked and done to the highest standard! Handy guys didn’t hurt my grandfather even with his money, thank you!
Jesse Custer 09/06/2019
In a rented apartment, it turned out that hurricanes were whistling from the windows! I had to order a master at my own expense. It turned out to be cheaper here, I did everything right, and now it doesn’t blow away. Respect.

How is the measurement done?
The manufacture, purchase and installation of Rehau windows should only be carried out after receiving accurate measurements. Sometimes doorways have certain defects; you will have to make allowances for them and correct them with plaster, cement mortar, or cladding.
In order to measure the width of the opening, you need to set the distance between the slopes. The height should be measured from the surface of the window sill to the highest receiving point, and the width - from wall to wall. It is also necessary to take into account that there must be gaps when inserting the finished structure. It is enough to retreat two centimeters on each side, that is, the window frame should fit freely into the opening.
What could be the consequences of using foam without protection from external influences?
After hardening, the foam is covered with a thin crust, which seals the internal air bubbles - they are responsible for heat conservation. For some short time it can protect the foam from getting wet. But, in the vast majority of cases, the foam is cut off because it is difficult to accurately calculate its expansion; it often extends beyond the seam. Cut foam is more like a sponge that absorbs moisture from the outside and steam from the inside. And once it gets wet, the foam stops performing its heat-protective function.
From the outside, open foam is negatively affected by ultraviolet radiation - under its influence, even uncut foam quickly changes its structure, becomes loose and collapses.
