Replace double glazing in a plastic window
Windows Prof >> Windows info >> How to replace a double-glazed window in a plastic window yourself, with your own hands
Metal-plastic window systems are popular among owners of apartments, cottages and private households. They are functional, modern, practical, and protect the room from cold air and extraneous noise. Long service life is one of the advantages of the modules. But sometimes it is necessary to replace the glass unit in a plastic window due to its damage.
When is window system repair necessary?
The work can be carried out by specialized companies or in-house - all you need to do is follow the technological process so that the block in the frame lasts a long time.
Repair of the package without replacing the window structure is necessary in the following cases:
- Mechanical damage - despite the fact that a reliable sheet is inserted during the manufacture of the modular system, cracks may appear from a strong impact.
- Insulation of the apartment - single glass is being replaced with a double-glazed unit.
- Improving sound insulation will protect the room from extraneous sounds; install double or triple windows or change the size of the chambers.
Regardless of the reason why you need to change the glass unit in a plastic window, the services of engineers are cheaper than purchasing and ordering a different design. You can do the work yourself; detailed video instructions will help you with this.
Dismantling the structure or local replacement
The service life of Euro windows is 20-25 years. The owners are interested in whether it is possible to replace the glass unit in the structure without purchasing another “stained glass window”. If the profiles are washed and remain clean, the frames close and open, there is no need to install the window unit. You can simply install modern Euro windows.
Advantages of local replacement of glass in plastic windows:
- low price – 50% of the cost of a new design;
- no need to dismantle the old window system;
- no construction waste;
- there is no need to finish the slopes after work.
Disadvantages - whether it is possible to replace the double-glazed window with an updated filling depends on the condition of the frame and fittings; it is permissible to carry out local work if the euro-window is installed efficiently and there are no drafts.
How many cameras
Replacing a double-glazed window with a three-chamber one is also possible, but this is only relevant for harsh regions; replacing a double-glazed window with a triple one does not make sense for central Russia. You can even find five-chamber ones on the market, but they are absolutely not needed in ordinary homes.
It should be remembered that although increasing the number of chambers increases the insulating properties, this also affects other characteristics, and not for the better. Firstly, the price rises significantly, but the ability to transmit light decreases, and the weight of the structure increases due to additional chambers, which affects the service life of the fittings. Secondly, why use a three-chamber double-glazed window in central Russia, if there is another option - a two-chamber double-glazed window with thicker outer glass or an increased distance between the glasses in the outer chamber? This will have almost no effect on the price.
How to restore a module
To install glass on a plastic window, it is not necessary to contact a specialized company. You can install double-glazed windows yourself.
To do this, you just need to follow a number of rules:
- select a tool;
- take product dimensions;
- order another stained glass window;
- dismantle the damaged product;
- install double glazed windows;
- make adjustments.
If there is a small defect associated with the lack of tightness of the module, there is no need to refuse repairs, otherwise you will have to replace the double-glazed window with a new design along with a metal-plastic profile, and this will cost more.
Devices for restoring a modular system
To replace a double-glazed window in a plastic window, you will need tools yourself. With their help, the frame with the canvas is removed and another one is installed.
You can repair a plastic window with your own hands if you have:
- knife;
- roulette;
- pin screwdriver;
- caliper;
- glass suction cups;
- rubber hammer;
- tape;
- material, wider in size than the product;
- cotton gloves.
Some devices can be replaced with others that perform similar functions. Depends on skill and availability of tools.
When measuring, one bead should remain in place and hold the module. An exception is determining the thickness of the metal profile.
Selection of panoramic windows
Due to the significant cost of frameless structures, many seek to reduce their cost by any means. As a result, the quality of the products may suffer, which is extremely undesirable. Only double-glazed windows made from materials with great strength and wear resistance will last a long time, without the need for regular repairs.
When purchasing a window, you should pay attention to the type of profile. A thin, cheap profile can be bent by hand, so it will not be resistant to stress. You should choose structures made of anodized aluminum, which will not bend for many years and will not wear out from the movement of the sashes.
There is no need to look for cheap rollers or locks either. During use, they creak, scratch the profile, and wear out very quickly. The thicker the window glass, the better the windows will perform. Canvases coated with a special film will prevent the glass from crumbling even with a strong impact. The film holds the fragments in place and also has a reflective surface. If you decide to make frameless glazing, you don’t need to think about saving. It’s worth choosing the best option for yourself, taking a responsible approach to installation and maintenance, and then using the product will be comfortable.
Taking measurements, purchasing a new product
On the spacer frame there is a marking with the thickness, width, height of the metal profile, and information about the component parts. If there is no information, you will have to take measurements yourself by measuring the removed module.
To take measurements without dismantling the frame, you need to take measurements between the metal profile of the sashes: from one outer edge of the bead to the other on both sides. Subtract 2 cm from the received data for adjustment.
Important parameters during repairs are the ratio of the gap and glass thickness between adjacent frames. If there is no information on the product, you will have to measure it yourself. To do this you need:
- use a tape measure to measure the thickness of the metal profile;
- measure the thickness of the external and internal fastening;
- Subtract the dimensions of the glazing bead from the thickness of the metal profile to obtain the thickness of the package.
Taking into account the number of chambers, calculate the distance between the glasses (in Euro-windows, the canvas is usually installed - 4 mm).
Removing a damaged product
Removing broken glass is quite simple if you have the tools. To remove a plastic window with your own hands, you will need:
- Spread a clean cloth on the floor surface.
- Cover the damaged filling with tape to prevent splinters from scattering.
- Remove the glazing beads. You will need a knife, spatula, rubber hammer. It's better to start with the side fastenings.
All instructions on how to change a double-glazed window in a plastic metal profile say that it is better to first dismantle the outer beads. But in the transom it will not be possible to remove them without damage. First, the longer ones are removed - from below and from above.
Whether it's easy to change packages depends on skill. To dismantle the fasteners, you must:
- insert a screwdriver or chisel between the bead and the metal profile;
- holding the spatula horizontally, hit 2-3 times with a rubber hammer (a gap of 1-2 mm should appear);
- pull the nail to the side and towards you.
When removing the fasteners with a marker or pencil, apply grooves to the fold in order to correctly install the bag, especially if there is a different thickness. In this case, the components are changed and cut off.
Next, to remove a double-glazed window in a plastic window with your own hands, you need to:
- The latch on top should be removed last - it protects against falling. An assistant will be needed for insurance.
- The package is removed from the sash. If the sealant has stuck to the metal-plastic, use a spatula to press the canvas away from the block.
- Place the removed window panel on a cloth, carefully break it (or glue it with tape, take it outside).
- Throw away the broken triplex.
Some modular systems have nuances that should be taken into account before you change the glass unit in a plastic window yourself.
Replacing one glass
If you need to replace only one glass, and not the entire structure, you will still have to first dismantle the entire glass unit and only then “disassemble it into parts.”
Work order:
- cover the window opening with film;
- create special conditions for dismantling double-glazed windows;
- remove old glass;
- clean the remaining ones;
- reassemble the glass unit (with new glass);
- install it in its original place.
The problem lies in creating special conditions. The bottom line is that there is silica gel between the glasses, which ensures the tightness of the glass unit. Without providing the correct conditions for assembling the glass unit, you risk “letting” excess moisture into the space between the glass, which will have a destructive effect on the sealant. The result is a window that is constantly fogged up and covered with a layer of ice, which means wasted time and money.

The process of dismantling a double-glazed PVC window
The algorithm is quite simple. But first, stock up on a chisel and a small hammer. Next, proceed according to the scheme:
- insert the chisel into the gap between the bead and the PVC profile;
- use a hammer to apply several light blows to the chisel, gradually moving it along the bead;
- remove the glazing beads (but be careful, first remove the long ones, and then the short ones);
- done - carefully remove the glass unit.
Important!
If the window is large, be sure to call a partner, otherwise you risk breaking the glass unit without holding it in your hands.
Installation of a new modular system
Whether it is possible to replace only part of the structure depends on its performance. If the fittings and components are in good condition, partial repairs are possible.
How to correctly insert a double-glazed window into a plastic window:
- Check the fastening of the sealing material from the outside.
- Install gaskets for the blind bag 2 from below into the fold (along the perimeter) of the sash, 4 pieces for the movable sash. Diagonally, one on each side, 10 cm from the corner.
The number of strips from manufacturers may vary. When removing the window package, you need to remember where the gaskets were.
Then, independent replacement of a double-glazed window in a plastic window is performed in the following order:
- The module is installed on gaskets. First check its position, otherwise the geometry will be broken and it will be impossible to correct it.
- The seal is installed from the inside.
- The beads are installed back: first from above, from below, then from the side. They are mounted into the grooves using a rubber hammer from the edge to the middle (until clicks are heard).
After replacing a damaged double-glazed window with a new product, you need to adjust the sashes. Use a furniture wrench to tighten the screws on the hinges.
Features of frameless glazing
Original frameless structures are an invention of Finnish specialists, which appealed to the taste of architects in many countries. They can be seen on city streets: loggias, balconies, terraces, winter gardens, verandas amaze with their lightness and airiness. A special feature of frameless windows is the absence of partitions, pillars, or supporting frames. The structural elements are held in place by aluminum slats attached around the perimeter of the opening. Glass is installed in the grooves of these slats, which have the ability to move and rotate on special rollers.
Frameless glazing systems are produced in three versions:
- First type. The load-bearing part is the upper profile. The glass sheet is hung on two roller supports. Transition elements are mounted at turning points. There are plastic stops at the bottom to prevent the glass from swaying.
- Second type. The load is evenly distributed on both guides, and the lower profile is considered to be load-bearing. The glass moves on 4 upper and lower rollers. The windows open "book" to the right or left.
- Third type. Includes all-glass sliding systems with profiles that contain 6 running runners. Glass slides over them like wardrobe doors. They are used only in straight facades.
To create frameless window structures, only strong, durable materials are used. Fasteners are made of high-quality steel, aluminum elements are made of reliable powder-coated metal. Instead of ordinary glass, a tempered sheet with a thickness of 0.6-1.2 cm is used. The sheets are placed end-to-end to each other, and the edges are sealed with elastic sealant.
How to restore stained glass glazing
“Stained glass” has features that do not allow you to change a damaged package yourself. When repairing, you must consider:
- It is cheaper to remove and install a new Euro-window than to purchase another modular system. But engineers must do the work.
- The pieces of glass are placed in “cells” that are taken out not inwards, but outwards; this requires scaffolding and an aerial platform.
It is impossible to make a pattern according to the color scheme. You will need to bring a whole stained glass window to the master, where measurements are taken with special devices, with the help of which the glazing is restored.
You can replace a single-chamber unit with a 2- or 3-chamber package
When repairing a damaged Euro-window, you can replace the single-glazed unit with a two-chamber or three-chamber one.
Replacing single glazing with double glazing is possible if:
- The dimensions of the rebate allow installation of 2-chamber glazing. Here are several options:
- package of 3 canvases identical in width;
- the new design is larger, but a narrow bead can be used.
- The fittings and profile will withstand heavier glazing (the weight will increase by 30%). If you need to strengthen the reinforcing plates inside the metal profile, it is easier to change the module completely. The hinges can be replaced individually.
It is not recommended to change single glass in a plastic window without consulting a specialist.
Three-chamber glazing is installed instead of a 2-chamber structure in the same way. One difference is that the modular system with three chambers is 25% heavier than the double block; strengthening the frame is most often not required.
Cost of seals for metal-plastic structures
Manufacturers offer different options to add functionality to Euro-windows.
The most common methods:
- Replacing a single triplex with glass with two chambers will improve the thermal insulation characteristics.
- Anti-resonance glazing improves noise insulation in the room.
- Energy-saving “stained glass” windows allow you to retain heat.
- Triplex – reliably protects against noise and cold.
This material is used for glazing private households, apartments, country cottages, gazebos and open verandas.
Types of double-glazed windows
Vacuum double glazing is a structural part of a Euro window. It is made of two or more sheets of glass glued around the perimeter; the spacer frames form sealed chambers that are filled with dried air or gas.
We can produce translucent structures of any shape (triangle, trapezoid, arch, circle). We produce products with all types of glass formulas (4 24 4; 4 12 4 12 4) and coatings: protective, triplex, reinforced, stained glass, etc.
Choose regular glass or glass with special properties. Special coatings, films, coatings, reflect, protect, decorate. In stock:

Recommendations from a specialist installing window frames
Self-installation of a double-glazed window into a block does not cause difficulties if you follow the technology. The procedure does not take much time. If you do not take into account the treatment of the modular system with sealant, the repair will take several hours.
In order for dismantling and installation to be carried out efficiently and quickly, it is better to adhere to a number of recommendations:
- Work is carried out during the day in natural or artificial high-quality lighting.
- If the damage is severe, it is sometimes impossible to remove the entire block. To make cleaning up splinters easier and without damaging the floor covering, it is recommended to use a cloth, which you then throw away. The fabric cannot be used for household purposes; sharp fragments may remain between the fibers.
- To remove glass from the modular system, a rubber hammer is suitable, which will not leave many sharp fragments. Then it will be needed when installing glazing beads.
- If the glazing is large, it is better to invite an assistant.
- It is better not to touch the canvas with your hands - rubber suction cups and cotton gloves will do.
- When replacing a single bag, before applying it to the frame covered with sealant, you need to wipe it well, removing dirt, dust, and fingerprints.
- Before installation, the new glass sheet must be inspected to make sure there are no defects or chips, so that it does not have to be remade later.
- Care must be taken during operation. If the canvas can shatter into fragments, then it is better to protect your face and hands.
Damage to a window is not a reason to spend money on purchasing a new product. You can make repairs and the Euro-windows will last a long time.
Glass is a fragile material that can break. The best option is to replace the package rather than a separate sheet. Independent dismantling and installation of a new modular system - saving money. It is possible to restore damaged triplex at home. But, if the fittings and frames are malfunctioning, it is recommended to perform a complete replacement.

How to install a plastic window
When installing windows, important rules are taken into account. They consist of correct measurements, installation and additional equipment. In order for the Euro-window to be installed with high quality, all GOST standards are observed. If you study the rules, there will be no problems. In addition, it will be possible to save part of the budget, since replacing double-glazed windows costs money. This article will tell you how to install a plastic window correctly.
Is it possible to install a double-glazed window instead of a single-chamber one?
Many people are interested not only in whether a single-chamber double-glazed window can be replaced with a double-chamber one, but also how this will affect the cost of the work. If the profile is standard, then this is easy. It is possible to replace the package with a suitable glazing bead. Replacing a 24 mm bag with a 32 mm two-chamber one will require replacing the glazing bead, which will slightly increase the cost of the work performed. Replacing the package will not cost a pretty penny, since there is no need to completely dismantle the window.
If replacing the glazing bead is problematic, then instead of a single-chamber package, you can install an energy-saving single-chamber one.
Energy-saving double-glazed window
The use of argon will further increase thermal protection. The chambers are filled during manufacturing at the factory; a special energy-saving coating is applied to one glass. There is no need to worry about the gas being harmful. Argon is non-toxic and largely inert. About 1% of the Earth's atmosphere (air) consists of argon.
What does a plastic window consist of?
First, you need to understand what a plastic Euro-window consists of. Each component has its own characteristics. Installation of plastic windows:
The main part of the entire structure is the frame. Its dimensions correspond to the window opening. The profile has from 3 to 7 air chambers. They are chosen depending on the region of residence. So, it is better for residents of the northern region to give preference to five-chamber ones; they retain heat in the house. Three-chamber, chosen in the southern regions.
The sash refers to the part of the window that opens. Its structure corresponds to the frame. The sash can be a full-fledged euro-window or a vent. They are also equipped with additional fittings that allow them to be opened for ventilation.
The plastic system is called an impost. It divides the frame into several parts. For example, in one double-glazed unit there is one or more glasses, the plastic distance between them is called an impost.
The glass unit is adjacent to the profile due to the glazing bead. This is a plastic gasket with a rubber base. With its help, the window does not allow cold air to pass through.
Various fittings provide opening and closing. There are two types: rotary and tilt-and-turn. The first one only allows you to open the euro window. The second one puts it in ventilation mode. The choice of accessories must be approached carefully. Poor quality samples will cause a lot of trouble for the owner.
Top 4 reasons for requests for double-glazed windows:
- deformation, leakage, condensation inside;
- cracks in glass, deep scratches, chips, scale, sun fading (yellowing);
- the desire to improve the functional properties of windows, increase sound insulation, tinting;
- improve the aesthetic appearance (shpros, false linings, stained glass).
Our specialists will also evaluate the correct installation of frames in window openings. Perhaps it was due to improper installation that the glass in the double-glazed unit cracked.
Stages of installing plastic windows with your own hands
When installing a profile, you need to follow the rules. The whole process is divided into several stages. They take measurements, dismantle the old structure, and then install a new one. Correct installation of plastic windows is a labor-intensive process, but the result will speak for itself.
Measurements
Before starting measurements, clear the opening of plaster. It will distort the results obtained. Measurements are taken several times, and then the lowest result is selected. The width is determined by measuring the distance between the slopes. Then measure the length, the distance between the slope at the top and the window sill.
When determining the width of the window, gaps are also taken into account. They are subtracted from the measured width. Two gaps and the height of the profile itself are subtracted from the length.
To measure the width of the window sill, add the overhang size to the opening figure, minus the width of the frame. For drainage, add 5 cm to make a bend. The presence of insulation or cladding is also taken into account.
Order a window
After all measurements have been made, you can begin ordering euro-windows. Finished drawings with all lengths are brought to the manufacturer, who selects an option according to price and quality.
There are two ways to install plastic windows. The first implies that the glass is pulled out before installing euro-windows, and then inserted back. The second one is designed for the profile to be installed together with the glass.
There is no optimal choice. The methods have disadvantages. The glass can be damaged when inserted into the profile. But glass can be damaged even if they are inserted immediately, due to their heavy weight.
Preparatory work
Preparatory work should begin only after the windows have been ordered. First of all, you need to remove the furniture or cover it with film.
If necessary, double-glazed windows are removed from the panels. To do this, remove the vertical and horizontal beads. They are numbered for correct assembly in the future. Then, tilt the frame and take out the glass. Remove the plugs from the canopies and unscrew all the bolts. To remove the window, the handle is switched to ventilation mode.
Removing the old window
The dismantling process is carried out immediately before installing a new system. To do this, follow the order:
- Remove the seal and thermal insulation.
- The slopes are cleared of plaster.
- The window sill is removed and the concrete underneath is cleaned.
- All surfaces are treated with a primer.
Old Euro windows are usually thrown away, so you can cut the frame and tear out the entire panel along with the fasteners.
Installation of metal-plastic windows begins with the installation of wooden wedges. It is on them that the structure is installed. If necessary, it can be leveled in time. You should check the level of the installed window in three planes. To do this, use a laser level and a plumb line. A regular bubble level is inaccurate.
If no distortions occurred during the installation of PVC windows, proceed to securing it with anchors. A hammer drill is used for these purposes. Secure the lower anchors, check the system and fix the remaining points.
Drainage
Before installing the drainage system, glue a gasket made of waterproofing tape. The next step is to install the stand and compression strip pad. If there is no such gasket, polyurethane foam is used instead. Otherwise, the drainage system will rattle in strong winds or rain.
The ebb is inserted under the profile or attached to it with self-tapping screws. It should be placed with a slope from the Euro-window so that water flows down.
Treating all seams and contact points with sealant will help prevent moisture from getting inside.
Window assembly
After the profile is fixed in the wall, the installation of double-glazed windows begins. It occurs in four stages:
- The glass is inserted into glazing beads, which snap into place with a characteristic sound.
- All doors are checked. If assembled correctly, the Eurowindow will not be able to close or open on its own.
- The seams are sealed along the entire perimeter with polyurethane foam. It should protrude a little after drying. Then they can be carefully cut off.
- All seams are taped with vapor barrier tape.
Important! The seams are filled with foam no more than 90%.
Window sill installation
When installing a plastic mechanism, you must remember the window sill. It is installed according to the following instructions:
- Trim the window sill; it should fit into the opening and rest against the profile. The gap is 1 cm, it will be closed later by slopes.
- Wooden wedges are installed along the window sill itself. It is tilted a short distance towards the room
To help the foam settle, place something heavy on the windowsill. The weighting agent is removed when the foam dries.
Thermal insulation, energy saving and noise insulation
Many people spend a lot of money on heating in winter: electricity or gas bills are often high at this time of year. But residents still have to endure temperatures that are uncomfortable for them. If the house is cold, something needs to be done. Improving your home's insulation is a great way to reduce your natural gas or electricity costs.
The materials used to insulate ceilings, walls, floors and windows can minimize heat loss, keep your home cool in the summer months and prevent heat loss in the winter. All this leads to a reduction in energy costs. Insulating a home means increasing its resistance to loss of cold or heat.
It is important to properly insulate ceilings and floors and choose windows and doors that have adequate insulation. Up to 50% of the heat in an apartment can escape due to cracks in window frames!
A well-insulated window allows you to maintain a comfortable temperature in your home throughout the year.
The area of the package is about eighty percent of the window area. The replacement is worth the money spent.
Sound insulation is another important factor. If you constantly hear noise from the street, it can greatly ruin your life and affect your well-being, mood and sleep.
The question of whether it is possible to replace a single package worries many. Taking into account the direct dependence of thermal insulation on the number of chambers, the owners decide to significantly change the situation. This is clearly visible in old multi-storey buildings: almost all wooden windows are replaced with plastic ones. But to make a choice, you need to understand the difference between the packages.
The main mistakes when installing plastic panels with your own hands
When assembling a plastic profile for the first time, mistakes are made. It is better to study them before installation, so as not to collide or prevent them in time. Common mistakes are related to incorrect measurements of the opening or the window itself when purchasing.
The window size is incorrect
All measurements are carried out carefully and several times. The slightest errors will lead to the fact that the entire system will not last long.
If the design is chosen to be smaller, over time excess moisture will begin to enter the room. At the same time, the Euro-window will not retain heat in the room.
A structure that is too large will leave no room for a layer of insulation. This means that incorrect measurements will not allow you to install double-glazed windows correctly.
Poor preparation of the window opening
Polyurethane foam forms a good adhesion only with a cleaned substrate. It is necessary to get rid of debris and dust.
The old seal is also removed. Otherwise, the foam will not attach and the panel will not be assembled correctly.
Ignoring wall insulation
Thermal insulation plays an important role when assembling Euro windows. With its help, heat remains in the room, and cold air does not enter inside.
If thermal insulation is ignored, all the advantages of the PVC system will be negated. This issue deserves due attention. This especially applies to residents of the northern region. After all, a Euro window will not protect you from strong winds and cold weather.
Incorrect distance between the window frame and the slope
Such an error will result in a poor-quality seal. To prevent this from happening, follow the prescribed distance standards. There remains 3-4 cm between the slope and the frame. The distance between the frame and the platband is no more than 1.5 cm.
Incorrect size of window sill
The window sill is an important part of the structure. The ebb and window sill are attached to it. If it is not there, or its size is incorrect, installing a drainage system will not be possible. This will lead to frequent wetting of the profile and wall. Water can get under the window frame. In this case, corrosion of the dowels may begin.
Poor quality fastening of PVC window to the wall
To install a plastic window yourself, you also need to know about the fastening rules. It can be carried out in the middle of the wall, next to the insulation or in the plane of the thermal insulation.
In this case, the difference lies in the wall itself.
- In a single-layer wall, the fastenings are in the middle.
- The system is mounted next to the insulation in a double-layer wall.
- For a three-layer insulation, the location of the fasteners in the perimeter of the insulation is typical.
An insufficient number of fasteners will also negatively affect the condition of the structure. Over time, the panel will change its position. The condensation process will be disrupted. Strong winds will cause frame deformation.
Not enough polyurethane foam
The absence of a sufficient amount of mounting foam will result in the panel being poorly fixed in the opening. Over time, it will change its position, which will cause many problems for the owner.
In addition, the foam helps maintain the temperature in the room and prevents moisture. It is worth remembering that the foam should cover the openings by 90%.
A large amount of it will also negatively affect the result.
No insulation tape
There are several types of insulating tape. They are classified according to weather periods and other features.
The absence of insulating tape will cause the seams to blow out over time and allow moisture to pass through. This means that the system will not perform its functions.
Disadvantages of frameless designs
The advantages of installing frameless double-glazed windows are obvious, but they also have disadvantages. Here are the main disadvantages of the designs:
- Heat loss. If your house or apartment is located in an area with a cold climate, the windows may be cold. Their glass surface area is too large, so they are more suitable for unheated rooms or houses located in warm latitudes. The temperature inside with such a glass sheet will be only a few degrees higher than outside. If desired, you can improve the heating in your home, but this will result in additional expenses.
- Low sound insulation. The thickness of the glass unit is small, so powerful soundproofing properties cannot be expected. Standard two- and three-chamber windows definitely win in this regard. It is easy to guess that a single sheet of glass is not capable of extinguishing all the sounds coming from outside into the room. These systems are completely unsuitable for busy city areas.
- Glaciation. In some cases, frameless structures may become covered with ice, but this is not the norm. The reason is the destruction of the sealant layer and the appearance of cracks through which cold air penetrates. Ice also forms on the glass when the rail on which the rollers move is damaged.
- Excessive openness. The privacy of people's lives may be violated after the installation of such window structures. If the apartment is on the ground floor, any passerby will be able to look inside. It is necessary to use more voluminous, thick curtains. Another good solution is to stick a special film that does not reduce lighting, but hides the view from the outside.
- Difficulties with furniture. If you have large windows, you will have to reconsider the interior of the room. You may need to give up large cabinets, many shelves and racks. The glazing system will occupy the entire wall, and it is also undesirable to block it with sofas and armchairs.
- Hooliganism. Residents of the lower floors or their own houses often suffer from vandals who try to throw stones at the glass. Huge windows attract more hooligans, so it is worth installing only special shock-proof structures, and they have a high price.
Also, the disadvantages include the need for frequent washing of glass sheets and the difficulty of installing mosquito nets.
