Finnish wooden windows
When we say “Finnish window”, we are not necessarily talking about the country of production. Finnish or Scandinavian windows are windows of a special design that are noticeably different from the double-glazed windows we are used to.
Finnish wooden windows consist of two sashes - external and internal. The frame for the outer sash is made of aluminum and a single glass is inserted into it. The internal frame is usually made of environmentally friendly material - wood. A single-chamber double-glazed window is installed in the internal frame. Between the outer and inner doors a space is created where blinds can be built in. In fact, Scandinavian windows, wooden or plastic, are a sandwich of several glasses and a layer of air in the middle. Each layer of a Scandinavian window works to create maximum heat and sound insulation. And I must say, these layers work perfectly - the house will always be warm and dry.

The sash design of a Finnish wooden window does not allow it to be opened in a tilting manner. You can’t go up and open the window for ventilation with the usual 180-degree turn of the handle. But the Finns, of course, provided a method of ventilation. A special valve with a sponge filter is built above the inner frame. With a slight movement, you move the mechanical latches to the “open” position, and air from the street begins to flow into the room, purified through a filter. If this method of ventilation seems insufficient to you, you can make vents or a separate transom in the window.
In Scandinavian countries, curtains and curtains are not very popular, so a system of blinds built into the window often serves as the only protection from prying eyes. You may ask, how can you adjust the blinds if they are between the panes? Very simple. The tilt regulator is combined with a cord for lifting the blinds and is located on the inner frame. The system is very easy to use and works flawlessly. Blinds do not interfere with opening the window and do not collect dust as much as indoors.
A Scandinavian window will look perfect in any interior. The color of the frame can be chosen according to your taste. You will really like the windows if you prefer natural materials in decoration. Finns like to preserve texture and leave some of the wood's natural imperfections intact to make it look natural. You certainly won't get a splinter or get hurt on the frame, but it won't be perfectly smooth like plastic or metal.
The price of Finnish windows may seem high, but for your money you get the most functional window made of natural wood. This is not a stamped plastic double-glazed window, but a carefully thought-out ergonomic design that will reliably protect your home from cold, noise and dust. Finnish windows will serve you for decades and will recoup costs with their durability and ease of use.
Finnish window design
Today, Finnish wooden windows are considered one of the most popular. They differ from other types in that they have a two-frame design and two strands of glazing. It is worth noting that the outer frame contains ordinary glass, and the inner frame contains double glazing. In order to be able to simultaneously open internal and external sashes, Finnish windows are equipped with special fittings. Most often, they have rotary or “blind” doors, due to which opening is possible only in the horizontal plane. If ventilation is required, it is done using small transoms or vents specially designed for this.
In Russia, wooden windows produced using Finnish technology appeared relatively recently, but having a huge number of advantages, they have become so widespread.
Additional requirements for modern windows
Modern requirements for windows are higher than those of the last century. One of the reasons for their increase is the energy crisis at the end of the last century.
When a room receives up to 30 cubic meters for each square meter in winter. m of frosty air and the same amount of air heated to + 20°C escapes through a passive hood in the kitchen, bathroom, toilet and the same cracks in the windows, then there is not enough money to heat the street.
Therefore, the main requirements were:
- a higher degree of sealing of window frame sashes - implemented with two- or three-circuit seals;
- reducing the thermal conductivity of the frame and window frame structure - using hollow profiles, multi-layer structures of window frames with thermal insulation layers, etc.;
- reducing the thermal conductivity of glazing - using thicker glass, two- and three-chamber double-glazed windows;
- reducing heat loss due to radiation exchange - the use of glass with energy-saving coatings that change the transmission and/or absorption of energy by the glass and the degree of its transparency.
Advantages and features of windows:
Quiet and warm. Thanks to their unique design, they have excellent sound and heat insulation.
These structures can withstand any weather conditions thanks to the use of durable wood.
Due to the porosity of the wood, as well as the presence of a special valve for ventilation, they can “breathe”. And therefore, both in the cold period and in the hot season, there are never drafts in the room, and at the same time there is always fresh air, and humidity is perfectly redistributed inside and outside the room.
If the heating system is installed correctly, the occurrence of condensation is simply excluded, since these windows provide good air exchange.
In production, a material such as wood is used, which makes it possible to obtain a huge variety of shades and shapes.
Finnish wooden windows have low thermal conductivity, which makes it possible to significantly save on space heating and heating costs.
These windows are characterized by very high noise absorption rates, so there is no point or need to use any additional materials.
If the wood is properly prepared and processed, then wooden windows made using Finnish technology will be durable and strong.
Wood
is an environmentally friendly material that can kill pathogenic bacteria in the air and has a beneficial effect on human health.
Surface treatment
The raw material for all wooden components is slow-growing Finnish pine, a renewable natural resource from well-maintained forests. The surface treatment system is one of the most modern in Europe and allows Skaala to use both water-based and oil-based materials with great flexibility. Before surface treatment, all components are thoroughly checked to ensure compliance with quality criteria. The quality standard of the wood used (glued laminated knot-free pine timber, on the doors - pine timber without knots on the visible surface) minimizes the number of possible defects of the natural material and thereby provides a good basis for any of the selected processing options. All surfaces undergo special protective treatment with antiseptics before painting or tinting. All products are processed with water-based paints and varnishes. Painted and varnished windows undergo surface treatment three times.

Wooden Finnish windows and doors
In you can order wooden Finnish windows and doors with paired sashes, as well as wooden balcony frames at a competitive price and of excellent quality.
Natural wood “breathes” - it allows air to pass through micropores, which is beyond the control of such “inanimate” materials as plastic and aluminum. Another undeniable advantage of wood is its maintainability. It is possible to eliminate visible scratches on its surface, which, for example, cannot be done in a plastic window, which is of course very important.
The combination of two frames and triple glazing makes Finnish windows durable in harsh climates. Today, Finnish wooden windows are gaining popularity in the window industry market every year. Finnish wooden windows consist of 2 frames, where one of them is equipped with sheet glass, and the other with single-chamber double-glazed windows.
For ventilation, such windows have a window. Wooden windows made using Finnish technology can be either solid wood or laminated 3-layer timber. The main species for production: pine, larch, oak. One of the main advantages of wooden Finnish windows is that a thick air layer is formed between the sashes - an excellent heat insulator. Thanks to this design, Finnish windows are considered the “warmest”. When manufacturing windows using Finnish technology, rotary fittings, screw handles and screw-in hinges are used. The doors open in one plane, which is why the window is intended for ventilation.
The seals used in production are from the German brand DEVENTER, made from high-quality material, and provide optimal noise and smoke insulation, comfortable clamping, high recovery after compression, and resistance to low temperatures.
To coat wooden windows using Finnish technology, varnishes and paints from the German brand SIKKENS, as well as MAV, are used. Thanks to the variety of colors of both varnishes and paints, it is possible to satisfy the requirements dictated by a particular interior. Finnish windows do not require maintenance; they only require annual lubrication of rubbing parts and adjustment of fittings.

The design of Finnish windows involves the presence of two frames, the inner one in which a single-chamber or double-glazed window is installed and the outer (wind) in which glass or a single-chamber double-glazed window is installed. Thanks to the interframe space, it is possible to install blinds in windows of Finnish design, which provide protection from sunlight and prevent heating of the room, since they are located inside and not outside the double-glazed window. The simplicity and reliability of the fittings allows Finnish windows to last for more than 50 years; during operation, only the seal requires replacement, the service life of which is 7-10 years. The outer frame in Finnish windows, as a rule, is made of powder-coated aluminum, and the inner frame is covered with a glaze coating with varnish or opaque paint, the color of which can be selected from the RAL map. Finnish technology uses laminated veneer lumber from solid pine or oak to make frames and doors.
