Installation of repair pads
The main advantage of restoration panels is ease of installation. The process is not complicated, does not take much time and does not involve a large amount of work. Main stages of work:
- Preparing the window sill - the surface must be smooth, dry, clean, and free of grease;
- Cutting PVC panels - the size is adjusted according to the parameters of the window recess, taking into account all the shaped fragments;
- Applying glue - uniform distribution of the adhesive layer over the entire surface;
- Installation of the overlay - for a strong fixation, the panel is pressed tightly over the entire surface, a “weight” is installed in the corners and problem areas until the glue dries completely;
- Installation of plugs - remove the edges of the protective film and install end and side plugs;
- Processing of joints - the joints of PVC panels with the window frame and slopes are filled with silicone;
- Preparation for use - after complete drying, the protective film from the lining is completely removed.
Installing a window sill trim in an hour with your own hands
Materials and tools. Window sill trim, end caps, assembly glue or liquid nails, degreaser (solvent), sanitary silicone, fine-tooth hand saw, ruler, pencil.
1. We buy an overlay of standard length and width at the point of sale and at home; if necessary, we adjust it to the individual size of the window sill ourselves
2. Measure out the required size and mark the cutting location.
3. Place the overlay on a stable stand, for example, made from two stools, and use a fine-toothed saw to cut off the excess.
4. The side edges of the trim should be adjusted to the window opening - cut out a paper template, and then cut the trim using this pattern.
5. Apply mounting adhesive to the window sill, cleaned with a degreaser (solvent), forming straight sections along the edges and a wide zigzag in the middle.
6. Install the trim on the window sill, and then lightly press it all.
7. After placing the trim on the window sill, press it along its entire length, and then place a load on it, for example, stacks of books. It is important that the load on the side edges is quite strong.
8. After 15-20 minutes, remove the weight from the window sill and the transparent protective film from the surface of the lining.
9. Carefully fill the gap between the cover and the wall with silicone from the cartridge. Smooth the freshly applied seam with a finger moistened with water.
10. Select ready-made plugs to match the color of the overlays. We measure, cut them with a saw and glue them to the side edge of the window sill trim.
11. We also fill the gap between the side edges and the wall with silicone, and carefully smooth the seam.
Universal end caps are also used, suitable for any window sill size, which further simplifies its restoration.
Note that modern production of such linings appeared on the Russian market in the Moscow region not so long ago. But, unfortunately, this product remained unclaimed in the Russian window market.
