How to insert glass into an interior door: detailed instructions

Many owners of residential or commercial real estate often choose interior doors with translucent inserts. Such products provide an attractive appearance to the enclosing structure, and also enhance the intensity of natural lighting in the space being used. Glass in door structures can crack or break if handled carelessly, or if there is a strong draft. In such situations, the glass in the interior door will need to be replaced.

Replacing glass in an interior door: what we change for what

Before we begin directly studying the issue of replacing glass in a door leaf, let’s first study the materials that can be used for these purposes - don’t you think that glass is a panacea and it’s practically impossible to replace it with anything? Here everything is just the opposite - modern technologies provide a lot of options, which would be, at least, stupid not to use. Let's study them in more detail.

  1. Decorative glass. This is the most expensive door insert, which not all manufacturers use in manufacturing. In principle, such glass can be called an ideal option that does not require modification. The only drawback of this material is that it will be quite difficult to find glass with exactly the same decor as on all other doors. In most cases, damage to the glass on one door entails replacing the glass on all other door panels in your apartment. And this can cost a pretty penny - a square meter of decorative glass for interior doors can cost $20 and more.
  2. Ordinary glass. A good, and most importantly quite affordable alternative to expensive decorative glass - this material requires additional refinement, which means covering it with special decorative films. You can buy them at any construction market for every taste and color. Such a replacement of glass in a door will cost approximately half the cost of the decorative material described above.
  3. Monolithic polycarbonate (plexiglass). The two options for door glazing materials described above have one significant drawback - glass. It is fragile and can easily break if handled carelessly. The material that was previously called plexiglass and is now called monolithic polycarbonate does not have this drawback. In fact, it is transparent plastic, the only drawback of which is that it is susceptible to scratches, as a result of which it simply becomes cloudy. Like ordinary glass, to give this material decorative properties it will require modification, for example, pasting with a decorative film, which will additionally serve as protection against scratches.
  4. Fiberboard or plywood are a budget option. You can replace broken glass in a door with laminated fiberboard, folded in half with the back side facing each other. Another option for using this material as decorative glass is ordinary, non-laminated fiberboard covered with an opaque decorative film. You shouldn't expect anything good from such a replacement. Once again, this is the cheapest and least attractive option for solving this problem.

So, we’ve sorted out the materials, now it’s time to move on to the theory of replacing decorative glass in door panels.

Can I replace it myself?

Professionals do not recommend replacing glass with your own hands unless you have certain skills in working with such materials. In the absence of knowledge of modern repair technology, the door deteriorates even more. This especially applies to stained glass, triplex and glass with photo printing, which are fragile and high in cost.

However, having armed yourself with the necessary tools and familiarized yourself with safety precautions, it is possible to eliminate the problem, but with a small nuance - it is unlikely that you will be able to find the same thing, since the manufacturer does not provide for the distribution of components for door models.

But don’t be upset, broken glass is replaced with other elements made from alternative materials. The main thing is to find out the design features of the interior door and become familiar with the specifics of its production, since the fragile part requires careful handling.

If you manage to find a similar one, it is better to do the cutting from trade construction organizations that provide similar services after purchasing glass decor.

In general, replacing broken glass decor is not difficult.

Options for final replacement

  • "diamond";
  • "flower garden";
  • with bamboo pattern.

What to use?

Of course, interior doors with glass inserts look impressive and stylish, but due to the fragility of the material, situations often arise when the decorative element needs to be replaced. Owners prefer to replace the part with a similar one; they waste a lot of time searching for a suitable element, but this is not always possible.

Advice. If the search for a similar part is not successful, ordinary glass, frosted or any other, is replaced with one of the alternative materials produced according to modern technologies.

Fiberboard sheet

A temporary and budget option is laminated fiberboard, folded in half so that the smooth side is on the outside. Or a regular, non-laminated type of fiberboard, on the front surface of which an opaque decorative film is then applied. This method is considered the least aesthetically attractive and short-lived, therefore it most often serves as a temporary way to hide the missing glass element in the overall door structure.

Decorative film

If the glass is cracked but does not crumble, or if there are small chips, all parts of the structure are covered with decorative film. In this way, not only defects are hidden, but also integrity and harmony in the appearance of the door structure are achieved.

Stained glass insert

It is one of the most expensive materials used by manufacturers in the manufacture of interior doors. This glass adds style and uniqueness to the door; it is quite durable and does not require additional modification. The only drawback is the difficulty in finding parts with similar decor, so you will have to change all the parts, which costs a significant amount.

Regular

Transparent material without additional decor at an affordable price is considered one of the most suitable for replacing a broken element. After taking measurements, the glass is ordered from a glazier and inserted in place of the damaged element. If you have the necessary tools, a glass cutter, for example, you can do the cutting and cutting yourself. Then the surface is decorated with a special film or any other suitable material.

Organic

In other words, it is a transparent plastic that resembles glass in appearance. It is also called monolithic polycarbonate, a durable, unbreakable material, the only drawback of which is the clouding of the structure. This is due to the appearance of scratches on the surface of the material. The application of decorative film will help protect the plexiglass or hide existing defects, which will additionally serve as a decoration for the door.

Tempered

Ordinary glass, made using a special technology, which has undergone heat treatment, giving the material not only increased strength, but also fire safety and sound insulation.

Methods by which glass can be attached to the door leaf

Before replacing the glass in an interior door, it is worth understanding the fastening scheme in your design, because in some cases it is quite possible to do it yourself, but in other, more complex ones, you will still have to turn to specialists.

  1. Interior door with triplex glass

If you think that you can independently replace triplex in a door - laminated glass, the layers of which are connected to each other in a special way using a polymer film, then you will have to abandon this idea: this can only be done in a factory setting, and this is the only case when It makes sense to think about purchasing a new door.

  1. Simple glass insertion from above

Repairing interior doors with replacing broken glass in this case is the simplest of all possible. This fastening option usually occurs in Russian-made veneer doors. In this case, it is enough to simply measure the opening in the door in which the new glass is supposed to be installed, and order it according to the measurements taken in a glass workshop

In addition to the size of the glass itself, it is important to take measurements of the “allowances” inside the opening, which are usually one or two centimeters. After this, all you have to do is carefully insert the new glass into the opening and coat the edges with silicone gel

  1. Glazing a door using glazing beads (quarters)

If you are going to repair an interior door in which the glass is fixed with glazing beads, this is also easy to do with your own hands, as in the first case. You need to start the replacement process by removing the glazing beads. For this you will need:

  • pliers;
  • sharp chisel (or wide screwdriver);
  • thick fabric.

Insert the chisel where the bead meets the door and is secured with a nail. After this, place the prepared fabric under it, and try to move the glazing bead so that the nail that holds it comes out. When it appears on the surface, you need to hook it with pliers and pull it out. Having thus pulled out all the nails holding the glazing bead, remove the last one.

It is important to remember that the process of removing nails must take place in a certain sequence, otherwise the glass may simply fall out. The first step is to remove the side beads, then the bottom, and lastly the top

You need to pull out the nails and remove the glazing beads very carefully so as not to damage the outer layer of the door leaf.

If you are repairing an interior door and replacing damaged glass, you need to carefully remove its fragments, carefully placing them on thick paper

It is important to carry out door repairs at this stage with extreme caution, wearing gloves and shoes.

After inserting the new glass into the opening, the previously removed glazing beads are put back and nailed again with the decorative nails that were there before.

  1. Replacement of glass with door disassembly

It happens that interior doors are made of wood and glass without the use of glazing beads. Repairing expensive prefabricated doors with glass replacement is more complex because it requires disassembling the door and then putting it back together. If you are not confident in your abilities, it is better to entrust this matter to professionals.

  1. Insert glass of non-standard shape

https://youtube.com/watch?v=R7y-djZjGCA

This is a rather complex matter that requires certain skills and precision.

Here it is important to take measurements of broken glass or glass that requires replacement as accurately as possible and then not deviate from the obtained dimensions (the deviation in this case should not be more than 3-4 mm)

What else should you remember when repairing an interior door with glass replacement?

All work on replacing glass in a door is carried out when the door is removed from its hinges and is in a horizontal position. This can be done, for example, on a large table. But inserting glass in a vertical position is not only extremely difficult, but also fraught with risk.

The interior door also needs to be prepared for repair: remove the old gasket, putty and sealant from it. Don’t forget about the glass itself: it must be clean (you can gently wash it with soap and water). It is better if the glass is at room temperature during operation. When inserting glass into the door, act as carefully as possible, never pressing on the surface. If it is difficult to insert, you can try cutting the gasket.

But, if you are not sure that you can handle inserting glass into an interior door, it is better not to start this task and not spoil the expensive door, but contact a specialist or think about buying a new door.

How the process works

Replacement is carried out as follows:

  1. Apply sealant to the glass grooves on one side (you can use any suitable glue).
  2. First insert the new blade into the rubber, then into the grooves. They are connected without a rubber seal, but you can’t count on reliability.
  3. Apply sealant again on the other side of the door system.
  4. Wait 4 minutes, return the glazing beads to their place. Using special nails, secure them carefully.

After completing all work, you need to wait 3-4 hours. This will allow you to “grab” tightly inside.

Metal-plastic doors

Repairing a plastic door with your own hands most often comes down to just adjusting it. The problem of door leaf sagging is not limited to wooden and steel doors, and in all cases it is eliminated in different ways.

Adjusting the narthex

When repairing plastic doors, you do not need to plan or put anything in the hinges, since the position of the leaf is adjusted using a hexagon or wrench bent at a right angle.

The hinges on plastic doors have a special design. At their end there is an adjustment hole into which the hexagon is actually inserted.

So:

When it rotates to the right, the blade will rise, but if you turn the key counterclockwise, it will lower. Sometimes it is necessary to move the sash not up or down, but in one direction or another. Usually this needs to be done when cracks appear in the vestibule and it begins to blow through them.

Repair of a plastic door: adjusting the rebate

Elimination of a similar problem is also carried out using a hexagon, only now it is inserted into the holes on the hinges, facing, as we see in the photo, inside the opening. You can bring the sash closer to the frame, or vice versa, move it away, by rotating the hex key in one direction or another.

Instead of adjustment holes, the door may have clamping screws that are rotated with a flat wrench. A lot here also depends on the door opening mechanism. If this is a swing option, then they most often have hidden hinges with holes for adjustment. But by and large, it doesn’t make much difference whether there are holes or screws.

Replacing parts

Plastic doors may require more serious repairs - such as replacing a dented threshold, a broken sandwich filling, or a broken double-glazed window. At first, when the popularity of plastic balcony doors was just gaining momentum, the thresholds were made of plastic, which, as time has shown, does not always withstand the weight of a person. The version of the threshold, made of gypsum fiber sheet, also somehow did not take root.

But it is simply impossible to push through a threshold made from a thick plastic window sill. We recommend! The window sill board is very durable, and not only does not break, but also does not bend. Its surface is not afraid of mechanical influences - except that scratches may appear on it, which can be easily removed using liquid plastic.

Thresholds from window sill boards

To manufacture a new double-glazed window to replace the damaged old one, you will have to contact the manufacturer

You need to go with the dimensions, which you will have to remove yourself - and here it is very important not to make a mistake. When possible, it is best to rely on an old double-glazed window, since some manufacturers indicate its size on the aluminum frame located between the glasses

If there is no such inscription, then you need to measure to the nearest millimeter, making sure to remove the glazing bead from the opening. First you need to pry off the long glazing beads with a spatula or chisel, and then remove the short ones.

This should be done by two people, so that the second person holds the glass sheet. After the opening is cleared, a new double-glazed window is installed in it, and the same beads are snapped into place.

Important nuances

If after dismantling the size of the glass surface has increased, you need to “arm yourself” with a pencil and draw a new image on the box.

Then you need to take measurements, cut out the desired hole shape, make grooves, and install the part. You need to act very carefully, otherwise the item will be damaged.

Replacement is also carried out using quarters (glazing beads).

The most difficult thing is to replace a non-standard product. For this purpose, it is advisable to invite a specialist.

If the insert is not broken, but only cracked, the actions will look like this:

  1. Use adhesive for glass furniture.
  2. Clean the damaged area.
  3. Apply epoxy glue.
  4. If small cracks are located at the edges, moldings are applied.
  5. Decorate the damaged area. All kinds of films are used for this. They help to mask cracks of any size well.
  6. “Retouch” the damage. Special stained glass films are best suited for this purpose.

Double-glazed window installation process

You need to act according to this scheme.

Firstly, the glass unit is installed in the frame. The frame has a groove on one side. A rubber seal is installed in it, along the entire perimeter.

Sealing rubber for double glazed windows

Secondly, rubber pads are placed on the horizontal base and vertical walls of the frame.

Thirdly, the prepared glass unit is inserted into the frame using linings. In this way it is possible to set it according to the level.

Inserting a glass unit

Fourthly, the exposed package is pressed with glazing beads. A rubber seal is installed in them in advance.

Fifthly, the bead is driven into the groove. Use either a plastic or rubber hammer.

Fixing the glass unit with glazing beads

What is the procedure

You need to wear gloves during installation. This will help avoid abrasions and dangerous cuts.

Necessary steps:

  1. Determine the fastening method. It can be inserted inside through the end, and can also be fixed with glazing beads. In the second case, you need to “arm yourself” with a chisel, a hammer and slightly move the glazing beads to the side.
  2. Remove the damaged surface. It is advisable to act together.
  3. Clean the grooves thoroughly.
  4. Check the condition of the rubber band located between the insert and the bead. Its replacement with a new one is necessary if it is severely damaged and cannot be restored.

The procedure is carried out in stages, the most important thing is not to rush

Glass fastening schemes

Some manufacturers are always trying to improve the fastening technology; as a result, the door can be very difficult to disassemble at home. In total, there are only a few standard ways of fixing glass in interior doors:

  1. Triplex is a multilayer glass, the layers of which are connected by a polymer film. If the door has this kind of fastening, then it will have to be taken to the factory to replace the glass. The cost of such a service is such that it will be easier to buy and install another door from another company.
  2. The main feature of a collapsible panel structure is that it is made of several elements; they are connected according to the principle of a tongue-and-groove joint. This means that there is no need to disassemble everything; it will be enough to simply provide access to the glass. To do this, you need to remove the top crossbar and then move the racks apart a little. Then you need to remove the inserts from the door and put in new ones.

In many domestically produced doors, glass is secured using glazing beads. A number of simple rules will help you understand how to insert glass into an interior door. This type of fastening is the easiest to dismantle. Replacing glass in interior doors of this type is carried out as follows:

Using a screwdriver or other similar tool, you need to carefully undermine the glazing bead, a little, but so that the nails appear outward. When the nails become visible, you need to remove them with pliers. However, the beads must be removed in a certain order, otherwise there is a chance that the glass will fall out and break.

Therefore, first remove the side beads, then the bottom one, and lastly remove the top one, when working with which you must be careful. All. The beads have been removed. Next, you need to remove the glass, take measurements and send them to a glass workshop. In the case of decorative glass, you just need to install it in the canvas and put the glazing beads in place. If it was decided to use ordinary glass, it will have to be covered with a special self-adhesive film. Before using it, it is better to slightly wet the glass with soap and water. In addition, during gluing, you need to level and expel excess air from under the film. An ordinary plastic spatula is perfect for this job.

In general, the procedure is quite simple. The main thing to understand is that glass is an extremely fragile material. It should be handled very carefully - when removing glazing beads there is a chance of damaging the decorative finish of the door.

There is also a non-standard fastening option, in which the door is a solid structure made of wood and glass, created without the use of glazing beads. In such cases, you can replace broken glass on an interior door of this type like this:

First you need to find the plugs; they are usually located at the end of the door leaf. Under them are the main fasteners, most often these are long self-tapping screws.

You need to remove the fabric from the loops and place it on a flat surface.

Next, you need to carefully remove the plugs and unscrew the fasteners. Then remove the long side panel, and then remove the glass

Then remove the long side panel, and then remove the glass.

All that remains is to supply a replacement and put the door back together.

Which side should I install?

In general, it depends on your desire.

  • But as a general rule, if a door opens from the bedroom into the corridor, then the “wrong side” of it should face the room, and the “front” part should face outward. The “front” part will always be brighter, with a pattern, covered with decorative film.
  • In rooms where it is necessary to hide from prying eyes, corrugated or frosted glass can be inserted into the interior door. This is a bathroom, toilet, bedroom. These materials are thicker than ordinary window glass (it reaches 4-6 mm). Only an experienced craftsman can work with this material. Therefore, do not try to save money (it is unlikely to succeed in this case), but take the dimensions and order the insert from the workshop of a construction company.
  • For the living room, front room, library, dining room, decorative glass is used: with stained glass (made from several colored pieces joined together) or engraved design (made using complex technology, including sandblasting). You can use frosted or corrugated glass - such a door will look especially good in an apartment with a minimalist style.
  • In the kitchen, whatever you want. The cheapest option is to insert regular window glass and glue a decorative film onto its surface.

Reference

Plain glass is still often used: it is cheap (2-3 times cheaper than its decorative counterpart), and it is easy to insert. However, it requires additional work.

Advantages of frosted glass:

  • good sound insulation;
  • moisture resistance;
  • high density.

Corrugated glass perfectly protects the room from extraneous noise, mirrored (tinted) glass impairs the transmission of light.

How to remove cracked glass?

Replacing broken or cracked glass in an interior door begins with removing it from the door leaf. The greatest difficulties arise if the glass insert is cracked, because it must be removed in such a way that the glass does not fall apart during dismantling.

It is best to carry out all work after the door has been removed from its hinges and laid on a flat horizontal surface. If this is not possible, you need to open the door and fix it securely at the bottom so that the door leaf does not wobble during operation.

The cracks themselves need to be covered in several layers with transparent, durable tape on both sides of the glass.

It is very important that the tape also covers the undamaged part of it. This manipulation will secure the glass and prevent it from falling apart during dismantling.

You will also need:

  • gloves, preferably rubberized on a fabric basis;
  • broom and dustpan;
  • chisel;
  • several pieces of thick paper;
  • small hammer.

All work must be done with gloves, this will help protect your hands from damage. The further procedure for removing cracked glass will consist of the following steps:

  • It is necessary to establish exactly how the glass insert is fixed in the door leaf. It can be inserted inward through the end or secured with beads.
  • If the glass is installed through the end, the door will still have to be removed from its hinges. It can only be removed through a special hole.
  • If the insert is secured with glazing beads, then using a chisel and hammer they need to be moved slightly to the side. There is no need to completely remove these fasteners.
  • The glass is then slowly removed from the canvas. It is better to perform this operation together, especially if the insert is large. One person will have to hold the glass at the location of the cracks, and the second will carefully remove it from the door.
  • It is necessary to clear all grooves of sawdust, door putty or sealant.

The dismantled insert should be disposed of immediately, having first wrapped it in prepared paper. If a piece of glass breaks off during the work, you should carefully sweep the room.

There are no particular difficulties when performing such work. The main thing is to immediately prepare all the necessary material and carry out the actions slowly.

It is worth paying attention to the condition of the rubber band, which is located between the glazing bead and the glass itself. If it is severely damaged or torn, it must be replaced with a new one.

Required Tools

Before installing new glass in the door structure, prepare in advance the tools that will be needed during the work process. These include:

  • Hammer. Will be needed for driving nails and adjusting the position of the bead. A special furniture or rubberized hammer that does not damage the material is suitable for the job.
  • 3 cm screws and a screwdriver.
  • Ruler or tape measure.
  • Fine-grained sandpaper.
  • Pliers.
  • Construction knife.
  • Glass cutter.
  • Chisel. May be needed when replacing glass.
  • Gloves. Will help protect your hands from cuts.
  • Scoop and broom. In order to collect broken old glass and remove debris left after installing a new one.

Handle repair

The interior handle is subject to heavy loads. Especially if you have small children, then their breakdown may be a common occurrence due to rolling on the doors, getting caught on the handle, although there are other reasons for breakdowns of interior handles.

Let's look at the most common problems that arise when using an interior door:

  • The handle gets stuck. When you press the handle, you feel resistance. To open the door you have to make an effort, and sometimes you also have to pull the door handle.
  • The latch is stuck. This failure occurs in the design of handles with a lock. The movement of the crossbars is difficult both when opening and closing.
  • Loose handle. In this case, there is sagging, the handle itself moves away from the canvas and wobbles. With such a breakdown, the entire locking mechanism may also become loose.
  • The handle does not return to its position after pressing. During normal operation, the handle should instantly spring back to its original position.
  • The tongue doesn't move. The halyard tongue either sinks or does not work.

Aluminum handle
All these damages can be repaired yourself at home

To do this, it is important to know the types of products:

  • Stationary. Such models are rarely used today. The “button” or “bracket” handles are simply screwed to the door leaf.
  • Push. This model has a push mechanism. To hide the tongue, the mechanism must be pressed on it and moved down.
  • Rotary. This model uses round handles. To open such doors, the handle must be turned to one side.

Door knob

Moreover, it is important to know the components of the handle mechanism:

  • Lock. The main element is the crossbar.
  • Square pin. It is brought out. The pin drives the internal part, connecting to the handle.
  • Lever. A handle that is subjected to force to open a door.
  • Decorative overlay. Gives the door an attractive appearance.
  • Reply part. It is located on the door frame. There are holes in it into which the halyard tongue goes.

So, if the handle has some damage, then if you deal with all these details, you can make the repair yourself.

The most common breakdown is lack of lubrication. It's very easy to fix this problem. Disassemble the handle and apply lubricant. You can drop sewing machine oil onto the bolt and then turn the handle several times. By doing this, you can completely prevent the handle from squeaking or jamming. Moreover, lubrication will increase the service life. Sometimes it is necessary to tighten the mounting screws and also adjust the fittings. This is in case the lock and handle are loose.

Handle installation

If this is not enough, then it will be necessary to disassemble the product. To do this, remove the decorative trim. Underneath there are mounting bolts that need to be unscrewed. After this you can get to the inside of the mechanism. It is not necessary to remove it. Now look at the key washer and torsion spring. To view the washer, you must remove the retaining ring. Often the problem lies precisely in this mechanism. As for the spring, it sets the tongue in motion. Make sure these items are in good working order and free of defects. Perhaps the spring will be out of place; it can be simply adjusted.

If after this it was not possible to determine the problem, then the entire mechanism will have to be completely removed from the door leaf. If broken elements are found, they must be completely replaced. When assembling the lock, be sure to install the parts in the same order as they were disassembled. If the breakdown cannot be eliminated in any way, then you may have to call a technician or completely replace the opening mechanism.

We measure the opening for new glass

There are also two options here: call a glazier or take the measurements yourself. If the broken glass had a complex shape, then it is better to use the first option.

Moreover, it is better to call a master from a workshop where this glass will be cut out immediately. With the correct and simple glass shapes, you will be able to take the required dimensions yourself.

You can buy glass in construction stores or special workshops where they cut out products. Modern manufacturers offer a wide selection of products with different relief patterns, levels of transparency, shade or resistance to damage. If children live in the house, then it is important to purchase glass for the interior door with high impact resistance.

The peculiarity of calculating the parameters of an insert item is the measurement of the doorway. To this indicator you will need to add a few millimeters of depth for inserting the product. It is better to take all measurements using a ruler to determine the exact distance of the bed. Otherwise, the dimensions will be inaccurate, which makes installation impossible.

Important! Glass should never fit closely into its bed! That is, its dimensions should be 1.5-2 mm smaller than the stock on each side.

How to remove cracked glass

To properly remove a cracked piece of glass, you need to figure out how to do it correctly.

What you will need

Select several materials that will be needed to complete the job.

Gloves

It's no secret that you can cut yourself with glass, and therefore it is recommended to think about protecting your hands in advance. Experts recommend protecting your skin from sharp glass corners with gloves. You should not use gardening gloves, as they are too thin. Instead, it is better to use products made of durable rubber.

Broom and dustpan

Broken glass leaves many small fragments that need to be disposed of. Some people remove them with a vacuum cleaner, but it is better not to do this. To collect the fragments, you need to use a regular broom and dustpan. You must sweep very carefully to collect all the debris from the floor.

Chisel

A chisel is the main tool that must be used when replacing door glass. With its help, they carefully pry up the glass sheet and pull it out of the door. It is recommended to use small chisels no more than 2-3 millimeters thick.

Several pieces of thick paper

It's no secret that glass is installed in special grooves on the doors. Sometimes the thickness of the glass is not enough, and it begins to hang tightly in the door groove. To solve this problem, you need to use a special sealing material. For sealing, strong paper or rubberized material is used.

How to remove damaged material

If the glass remains intact, then removing it is quite simple. The situation is worse when it is cracked. The main task is to remove it in such a way that it does not fall apart into particles.

Note! All work is carried out after removing the fabric from the hinges. It must be laid on the floor.

If it is impossible to remove, you need to do this:

  1. Eliminate wobbling by opening and securing at the bottom using any dense material.
  2. Eliminate any cracks that have formed. To do this, use thick transparent adhesive tape. It is glued on both sides. It is important to capture the entire part that remains intact.
  3. Move the window to the side. It should not interfere with work or create a danger for those present. It is advisable to place it flat on a sofa or bed.
  4. Clear away debris.

Preparing the door for glass installation

If you decide to install glass in the door, then you need to correctly cut the opening in it. To do this you will need:

At the first stage, attach your template to the door and mark its extreme points in the corners. Then drill four holes.

To prevent the edges of the opening from crumbling, you can seal them with tape. This will protect them from destruction or deformation.

Next, draw the outlines of your cut. After that, all you have to do is cut out the hole using a jigsaw. You must act as carefully as possible so as not to damage the material.

Now you need to strengthen the edges of the opening. Using a chisel, remove the inside of the door a few centimeters deep. To strengthen the edges, you will need bars, the size of which is equal to the volume of the freed up space. Glue them with glue or secure them with screws or strips.

Next, install the strips, which you will then connect into a mustache. This is necessary to secure the glass in the door opening. Installation of planks with a selected rebate can be done using PVA glue or screws.

The door is now ready for glass installation.

Steps to replace broken glass

The procedure for replacing glass in an interior door consists of the following steps:

  • Upon arrival, the technician dismantles and removes the fragments,
  • takes measurements
  • in the workshop they prepare and cut out the required size,
  • the surface is ground and processed, if desired, the glass is tempered to enhance its strength,
  • This is followed by delivery to the customer, installation and our master handing over the finished work to you.

To cooperate with us, you can choose any of the following methods:

  • a technician will come to your home
  • You can measure the required piece of glass yourself, but in the latter case the company is not responsible for the error in your measurements; you are responsible for paying for the glass work in full.

What needs to be trusted when replacing only to professionals

You should not try to change some types of inserts yourself; it is better to immediately invite professionals. These include:

  • triplex;
  • stained glass;
  • photo printing;
  • inserts of complex shape, curved and corrugated;
