How to install plastic balcony doors with your own hands

Hello readers of my blog! Today we will talk about how to install plastic balcony doors with your own hands. It would seem that this is not a tricky matter, but when you are faced with this problem, you have to think about how to do it correctly, what preparation to do, what materials to choose. Thus, I decided that this article would be useful to someone, and I am devoting my efforts to this topic. In it I will answer a number of questions that will arise immediately before installing plastic balcony doors with your own hands, and some even after that. This topic is quite broad, because before work, thorough preparation is necessary, but how to do this? And this is a separate topic. You can learn about all this in great detail in the article below.

Do-it-yourself installation of a balcony block

Walking along the streets of the city, we increasingly see plastic balconies, which with their snow-white appearance perfectly refresh the house. However, it is not only because of beauty that owners choose metal-plastic balconies. On such a balcony it is warmer, more comfortable in winter, the surfaces do not need frequent cleaning, and it is more cost-effective than choosing natural wood.

The most common version of a balcony block is a metal-plastic structure, including doors opening onto the balcony and windows.

I would like to note that this durable, attractive and convenient design has long established itself as more practical compared to its wooden counterparts. PVC-coated balcony blocks are now successfully installed in homes, offices and apartments. Therefore, it is very important to know how the balcony block is installed.

PVC structures: pros and cons

PVC profiles for balcony blocks have a number of advantages, including durability, tightness, thermal insulation characteristics and high quality, etc.

Over time, the product does not change its properties and appearance. Moreover, serious modern manufacturers improve the quality of their products every year and expand their range. Windows and balcony blocks with doors are equipped with various ventilation functions, child protection, etc.

The design of metal-plastic balcony blocks is ideal for both home and apartment. Moreover, the color palette is not limited to white – you can choose any shade, including natural wood.

Without exaggeration, we can say that through such windows more sunlight enters the house, which visually expands the space.

Advantages and disadvantages of wood products

Wood has many advantages, but this material also has disadvantages. Positive characteristics include:

  • environmental cleanliness;
  • attractive appearance;
  • long service life;
  • sufficient noise insulation;
  • low heat loss;
  • reliability of operation.

The negative features are the following:

  • high moisture absorption;
  • possible deformation.

All the disadvantages of wood appear only due to poor-quality harvesting and violation of technology. According to existing standards, to reduce absorption, boards must be dried and treated with hot steam and special impregnations.

Materials for work

The humidity coefficient should not exceed 10%. Additionally, the finished block is covered with stain with a protective layer of varnish on top or with water-repellent paint.

What types of balcony blocks are there?

Blocks for balcony openings offered by manufacturers today are suitable for different types of premises, and not just for standard apartments.

In a classic swing door there is pressure at only three points, while in a tilt and turn door there is pressure at five. In addition to the pressure points, the tilt-and-turn is equipped with an important micro-ventilation function. An important feature is the ability to depressurize the door: it opens both outside the room and inside.

If you want to learn how to install a balcony block yourself, you need to have at least a little understanding of the types of filling for balcony doors.

Classic option. The door consists of two parts: an opaque sandwich panel at the bottom, and a transparent (glass) panel at the top. Such a door will protect the room from heat loss.

Transparent balcony doors at the top and bottom will allow you to see the beauty of the decoration of the loggia or balcony.

French style. It is a glass filling of windows and doors, thanks to which a lot of heat and light enters the apartment. The new renovation will look even more advantageous against the backdrop of such a balcony.

Portal type. This is a more modernized version of the French type with a sliding system.

There are no heating radiators under the windows - everything is simple, concise and beautiful.

However, heating is still worth taking care of, and it is better to install them on the walls. Otherwise, during the cold season, the lower part of the door may freeze through.

The installation of a balcony block in this case has its own characteristics, and it can only begin after the heating devices have been transferred to the walls.

Installation algorithm

It is more convenient to install the balcony block with an assistant. Tools and fasteners are kept at such a distance that they are easy to reach. Using a model of a standard design as an example, we will consider in detail the algorithm of actions for self-installation.

Preparing the block

A new balcony door is disassembled into parts before installation. The latch is lowered over the sash and the plug is removed. The stopper can be moved to the lower position using a screwdriver. The canvas is opened with a handle, folded back and the part removed. The profile is lifted and removed from the pin.

The glazing beads are removed from the structure. A wide spatula, flat spatula or knife blade is placed between the frame and the element. With a gentle blow of the hammer, remove the required part of the balcony door. They take out a bag of glass from the profile and put it aside.

Anchor plates are fixed to the box. The distance from the edge is 15 cm. An interval of 70 cm is left between the parts. The fasteners are inserted into the groove of the profile, scrolled by 90 C, then attached to the steel with self-tapping screws. All elements should face the direction of the room.

We begin installation of the balcony block

The balcony block includes windows and doors fastened with plastic connectors.

This is the peculiarity of their design. It is necessary to install window sills to the windows (on the inside), and a small threshold to the door. So, let's look at the sequence of work and tell you how to install a balcony block.

Before you begin installing the balcony block, inspect it for chips, scratches and cracks, because the structure may be damaged during transportation.

You should have the right tools at hand - this is the likelihood that you can do the job yourself. You cannot do without screws, an anchor, mounting foam, window sill plugs, a drill, etc.

If the design is in good order and the installation of the balcony door is done correctly, a characteristic click will be heard when installing the frame into the plastic connectors. To strengthen the structure, the box with the frame must be fastened with screws, and a sealing tape must be glued to the end of the structure.

Having learned how to install a balcony block with your own hands, you will decide for yourself whether it is worth involving installers in this work or whether you can do it yourself. If you're tired of your old balcony door, why not change it now?! With our website this is easy and even interesting. The main thing is that after the replacement your apartment will become warmer and brighter!

Do-it-yourself balcony door adjustment

Old wooden windows have been replaced by new plastic ones.

An increasing number of Russians give them preference. Plastic windows are highly sound insulated, retain heat well, are durable, and have an excellent aesthetic appearance.

The door serves to separate your living space from a loggia or balcony, and it is also an additional natural source of light and serves as a barrier to cold and noise.

The most affordable and popular doors among Russians, made of PVC, have a lot of advantages and disadvantages, but under their own weight they sometimes sag and lose their original tightness; it is no longer possible to close them with ease.

If you encounter such a problem, and the warranty period has not expired, then a professional technician will come and fix everything. But if the warranty has already expired, then you will have to adjust the balcony door yourself.

This can be done provided that you strictly and scrupulously follow all the instructions, but if you do not have full confidence in your technical skills, contact a professional technician.

Installation of slopes

If it is decided to decorate the internal slopes with plastic panels, then you will additionally need:

  • starting profile;
  • plastic panels (slopes);
  • F-profile (platbands);
  • masking tape.

Operating procedure:

  1. Cut the starting profile into segments equal in length to the upper frame and the side parts of the balcony block.
  2. Screw the profile with screws at the junction of the frame and slopes.
  3. Cut panels to the desired size. Place them in the screwed starting profile. You need to start inserting slopes from the top.
  4. Fill the gap between the resulting plastic slopes and the walls with polyurethane foam. Temporarily attach the panels to the walls with masking tape. After the foam has dried (after about 24 hours), trim off the excess with a construction knife. Remove the tape.
  5. Cut the F-profile into pieces of the required length. Place them on the edges of the panels. The vertical parts of the profile must meet the horizontal at an angle of 45 degrees. Treat the joints with silicone sealant.

How to determine that the installation was done correctly and efficiently

If the door installation is carried out according to all the rules, then you will not need to adjust it yourself soon. But when you identify the first signs of a malfunction, you should start eliminating them or call a professional technician.

When installing a plastic door on a balcony, you must carefully monitor the installation process and ensure that workers follow all instructions. Demand that they perform high-quality installation work.

Briefly about the main thing

If there is air blowing from a plastic window, it needs to be adjusted. Usually a draft arises from under the sash.

The sash must be pressed against the frame. And this can be done in different ways:

  • adjusting hinges;
  • by adjusting the eccentrics located on the outside of the sash.

If over time the sash sag under its own weight, then it is adjusted in the horizontal or vertical direction. This is done using loops. Horizontal adjustment is carried out with two loops, vertical adjustment with one – the lower one.

How to identify installation defects

An ordinary piece of paper from a school notebook will help you determine the moment when your balcony door requires adjustment.

Place the paper on the open door frame, then close the door and pull the paper towards you. Repeat this experiment around the perimeter of the door frame. If you easily pulled out the piece of paper, the door frame is not tightly pressed against the frame.

To identify the distortion of the door, you need to outline it with a pencil. The door must be closed.

Then, after opening it, check whether the drawn line is parallel to the frame or not. If not, then the door is misaligned.

By using these simple methods, you will identify problems in time and begin to eliminate them. If the warranty period has not expired, it is better to call a specialist.

Can the lock be adjusted?

The lock is the main protection of the premises from strangers. They are installed on balcony doors only on the first and last floors, provided the balcony is not glazed. Locks are often installed on the entrance and interior doors of industrial and office premises. Their installation is carried out at the time of assembly of the structure. Additionally, only a padlock can be installed.

The most common mechanical locks are:

  • cylinder;
  • suvaldnye.

If the cylinder lock breaks, you do not need to remove it all; just remove the cylinder and buy a new one. If the lever lock breaks, it needs to be completely replaced. Since these are mechanical locks, if the key gets stuck, the first step is to clean and lubricate them. Also, the cause of poor operation of the mechanism may be sagging of the blade, then, along with lubricating the device, the canopies should be adjusted.

Sometimes this problem happens - the key in the door breaks when you try to open it. If a piece of a key protrudes from the hole, you can try to grab it with tweezers or pliers, turn or pull it out. If this is not possible, then you need to perform the following operations:

  1. Take a jigsaw blade and insert it into the bottom of the keyhole. At the same time, point the teeth of the nail file upward.
  2. With this blade you need to pry off a piece of the key by turning the blade. This is necessary in order to remove the stuck fragment.
  3. If you have a spare key on hand, the problem will be solved. If there is none, then you need to remove the decorative trim on the lock and unscrew the cylinder to open the door and buy a replacement for it.

In private homes, “smart” locks – electromagnetic devices – are also installed. They are triggered not by a key, but by a key fob, card, fingerprints, etc. You cannot fix them yourself; you need to call a specialist.

Correct setting of a plastic door

Depending on which direction the door leaf goes, the door can be adjusted both vertically and horizontally.

To adjust the clamping mechanism, which is located in the middle of the door end, you will need a screwdriver.

If the door is offset vertically, you can raise or lower it by adjusting the hinges located at the top and bottom of the door leaf:

Please note! If you twist the screw counterclockwise, the door will rise, and if clockwise, the door will lower.

If you follow these rules correctly, your door will fit snugly against the door frame.

If these actions do not lead to the removal of faults, then you need to call a professional technician. Today there are many manufacturers of plastic doors, but these rules for repairing faults apply to all of them. The main thing is to carefully read the instructions and, scrupulously following point by point, adjust the door leaf.

By eliminating all faults, you will provide reliable protection to your living space from cold and noise from the street.

How to adjust plastic balcony doors

Before you begin diagnosing the problems that have arisen and subsequent repairs, it is worth understanding the structure.

There is a base unit, as well as spare parts for a plastic balcony door. Moreover, among the accessories there are both irreplaceable and optional parts. As a rule, the door block includes the following elements:

The door block includes a frame, leaf, hinges, handle, seal and glass unit

In addition, the device may include additional elements that expand the functionality of the balcony door: stoppers, mechanical or hydraulic sensors and other parts.

The price of a plastic balcony door is quite high, but buying an expensive high-quality model does not save you from frequent cases of mechanism breakdowns. It's all about its frequent use, which leads to a decrease in the tightness of the sash.

In addition, double glazing provides excellent sound insulation, and PVC guarantees durability. However, it is these materials that noticeably make the structure heavier, as a result of which it begins to sag under its own weight and ceases to close tightly. As a result, a noticeable draft appears in the room, and insulating the balcony does not help.

If this is the case, intervention in the door mechanism is not required.

However, if you notice the slightest deviation, you immediately need repairs to your plastic balcony doors. You shouldn’t delay calling a technician, because with each opening and closing the situation will get worse. As a result, this can lead to balcony doors not closing at all.

If you adjust a plastic balcony door with your own hands, for the success of the repair it is important to determine the causes of the malfunction. Most often the problems are as follows:

To test the door for tight closure, slam the shutter with a regular landscape sheet of paper. Try to push the sheet around the perimeter of the door. If it moves easily, the structure has lost its density and needs adjustment.

Also evaluate the tightness of the seal: uneven pressure on the rubber usually indicates sagging. Determining the direction of displacement is simple: pay attention to the place where the seal is compressed and check whether there is a mark from the sash on it.

Adjustment of PVC windows according to the season

Plastic windows have many advantages. But there is one minus. This is a complete sealing of the window opening, which is not always correct. It's all about room ventilation, if we talk about its natural variety. After all, earlier, when wooden windows were installed, there were always cracks and gaps between parts of the structure. It was through these leaks that fresh air entered the rooms from the street.

This is not possible with plastic windows, but there is still one option. You just need to adjust the pressure of the sashes to the frames. If you make the pressure weak, then an unnoticeable gap will remain between the seal and the sash. But since the perimeter of contact between frames and sashes is quite large, and there are many windows in the house, natural ventilation begins to work. At the same time, fresh air begins to flow into the house from the street - the microclimate changes for the better.

By winter, on the contrary, the pressure must be made stronger so that cold air from outside does not penetrate into the premises of the house. This makes it possible to reduce heat loss, which will affect the operation of the heating system and reduce fuel costs.

Seasonal adjustment of a plastic windowSource fix-windows.moscow

How to adjust plastic windows yourself in winter-summer terms. To do this, use the adjustment option using an eccentric. It should be noted right away that the number of eccentrics may be different. It depends on the manufacturer and the size of the plastic window itself. Moreover, these elements can be located both on the outside of the sash and on the inside. And for the result to be one hundred percent positive, it is necessary to regulate all eccentrics. The manufacturer must indicate this in the instructions.

Some masters believe that there is neither a “winter” nor a “summer” mode. Manufacturers simply leave the opportunity to seal the sash when the seal loses its elasticity over time. That is, in this way you can simply extend the life of the rubber product. Of course, if it is not torn.

In any case, when a plastic window is installed, it must be checked for drafts. If the latter is not present, then there is no need to regulate. If the breeze still blows from under the sash, then you should not make maximum adjustments. Light pressure will close the gap.

How to determine if a door leaf is skewed

If you suspect the structure is skewed, close the sash, and then draw a pencil around the perimeter of the closed door.

Open the door and compare its outline with the drawn line. The presence of unevenness indicates that the door is warped. For accurate results, use a building level.

Table of values for door leaf adjustment

Let's say, as a result of measurements, you find out that the width of the drawn strip is 8 mm (an error of 1 mm is permissible). This means everything is in order and the door is not warped. If the width of one strip is 12 mm and the other is 4 mm, this clearly indicates that the door is skewed by 4 mm.

Please note! Sometimes it turns out that on the hinge side the width of the strip is 3-4 mm, and on the handle side 6-7 mm. Such indicators indicate that the door is narrowed by 4-6 mm - this is a manufacturing defect, and there is no point in moving such a door.

Also check the width of the opening on all sides of the frame.

The difference in measurements should not be more than 1 mm. Otherwise, the opening will have the shape of a barrel - this happens when installed incorrectly, when the middle of the frame is pulled towards the wall more than the top and bottom. Such errors also lead to loose clamping.

By measuring the width of the sash on all sides, you will determine the correct length of the impost. The difference between the three measurements should not be more than 0.5-1 mm. If the indicators differ from the norm, the length of the impost differs from the required one and causes the door to skew.

To adjust the door leaf you will need a hex wrench

DIY installation diagram

To replace the lock, a screwdriver or Phillips screwdriver is sufficient. If you need to repair a plastic balcony door, then in such designs the lock is most often embedded in the handle; it turns out that replacing the handle will make the lock work.

The handle is replaced in a few steps:

  • Move aside the decorative plastic. Hidden under it are self-tapping screws that secure the handle to the door leaf.
  • Using a screwdriver or screwdriver, unscrew the screws and remove the handle.
  • We install a new mechanism, previously purchased at a hardware store.
  • All that remains is to tighten the screws and return the decorative plastic to its original position.

Replacing the lock

Otherwise, the lock on the plastic entrance door is replaced. The thing is that the lock and handle in such products work separately from each other. But even here it will be enough to have a screwdriver.

There are two types of locks - single-point and multi-point. Single-point locks, unlike multi-point locks, have only one locking point. As a result, the door leaf does not adhere tightly to the surface. Multi-locking ones have much more reliable protection, since they “stick” into the door frame on three sides.

By the way, latches, depending on the method of opening the door, are of different types - either halyard or roller. The halyard is used when opening the door by pressing the handle, and the roller when the handle is pulled towards itself in the open position.

But let's get back to replacing the lock. First, remove the metal plate that protects the product from unauthorized intervention. If a certain part fails, for example, a lock cylinder, then it is replaced. Of course, there is no need to replace other parts. In more advanced cases, a similar procedure will be required as with replacing the handle described above.

Loops rarely fail. Their design, made of metal alloys, is so reliable that it lasts without repair for several decades. It may only be required if the defective product originally left the factory. Or, if the weight of the door leaf does not meet the specifications.

It makes absolutely no difference whether to replace the hinge on a wooden door or the hinges on a plastic one. The procedure may differ only in details

For metal plastic, first of all, it is necessary to remove the decorative caps. They play not only an aesthetic role, but also protect the metal from moisture.

And then you need:

  • Knock out the axle mechanism. To do this, take a hammer or mallet. This work is done very carefully, the door should be slightly open.
  • Once a small metal part appears, grab it with pliers (or use pliers) and pull it down.
  • Tilt the door towards you and lift it slightly (literally to the height of the pin), remove it from its hinges.
  • We unscrew the old hinges and, using the instructions, install new ones.

All that remains is to return the door to its normal state. It is advisable to carry out this operation together, remember that the plastic door weighs a lot.

The process of replacing overhead door closers is also simple. The old mechanism is removed and its exact copy is installed. First, the box is mounted, and then the lever. Having connected the body to the lever, you can begin adjusting the closer. By loosening or, conversely, tightening the screws located at the end of the case. In this way, the closing speed and pressure are adjusted. Floor-mounted and hidden closers are not widely used today, so it makes no sense to dwell on them in more detail.

If you have to replace the plastic door seal, then before sending it to the hardware store it will be useful to remove the old one using a flat-head screwdriver. The seal is held on by glue in the corresponding groove, so there should be no difficulties.

Having a sample in hand, you can be guaranteed to purchase the desired option. All that remains is to clean the surface of excess glue, apply a new layer along the entire length and fix the seal. At the same time, it should not sag or stretch.

How to adjust a plastic balcony door: step-by-step instructions

To avoid mistakes or accidental damage to the glass unit of a balcony door (the cost of which is quite high), you need to figure out how to adjust plastic balcony doors correctly.

When carrying out work, it is not necessary to overpay for a specialist: you can adjust the balcony door yourself - video instructions can be easily found on the Internet.

Materials and tools

Of course, some tools, the optimal set, are available in almost every home, but still, you may have to buy something in addition. In addition to the door block itself, the following will be involved:

  • yardstick;
  • marker (or pencil);
  • building level;
  • screwdrivers;
  • nail puller;
  • self-tapping screws, screws, dowels;
  • polyurethane foam, sealant;
  • wooden wedges;
  • electric drill or hammer drill;
  • a circular saw.

Plastic for finishing doors
As a rule, these tools are enough to do the installation yourself.

Regardless of which of the selected doors you install (interior, balcony, “accordion”), the principle and steps of performing all operations are practically the same and have a certain pattern of actions.

Adjusting the pressure of balcony doors and door handles

If the handle does not turn well, sometimes it is enough to lubricate the lock with a special material that does not contain resin or acid. In the event of a complete breakdown, you should buy a handle for plastic balcony doors, unscrew the screws, remove the old part and put a new one in its place.

Useful advice! A good option is to install a magnetic latch on the balcony door. This will allow you to avoid too much impact on the door handle every time you close and open the door, which will have a beneficial effect on its durability.

If there is blowing from plastic balcony doors, this is a sure sign that the sash is not pressed tightly.

It is necessary to adjust the pressure of the plastic balcony door. To figure out how to adjust plastic balcony doors for pressure, look for locking elements on the door leaf. They are responsible for the pressure density.

Using a wrench or pliers, rotate the locking elements until the door is in the desired position. Professionals recommend periodically self-adjusting plastic balcony doors depending on the season.

Just figure out how to adjust plastic balcony doors for the winter, and you can easily loosen the pressure in hot weather and tighten it in the cold season.

Sometimes adjusting the hinges does not help solve the problem, and then the leakage of the clamp can be eliminated using a pin.

To do this you will need pliers. To achieve maximum door pressure, install the trunnion perpendicular to the profile. To, on the contrary, achieve minimal pressure, position the trunnion parallel.

Features of operation and care

It is not difficult to operate and care for a plastic balcony door. The disadvantage of plastic is that it is a source of static electricity, so these doors can attract dust. To prevent its accumulation, the surface of the door must be periodically wiped with a damp sponge.

When using this design, keep in mind that the plastic can be scratched quite easily, so during cleaning you should not use abrasive and aggressive detergents or hard brushes. You will not immediately notice the appearance of microcracks, but over time the surface will begin to take on a yellowish or gray tint as dirt gets into the cracks. You will no longer be able to return the original appearance of plastic.

To wash plastic balcony doors, you should use a regular soap solution or dishwashing detergent. Cleaning consists of wiping the surface with a soap solution, after which excess moisture is removed with a dry cloth. There are special products for caring for plastic surfaces, which not only remove dirt, but also polish microcracks.

Wipe plastic surfaces with a soft cloth.

If you use dishwashing detergent to wipe the surface, dilute it with water. It is better that it has a degreasing effect.

Double-glazed window care

To care for a double-glazed window, it is enough to periodically wipe it with soapy water; however, powders with abrasive substances cannot be used. You can use special products designed to care for glass surfaces. To remove excess liquid from the glass, use a special scraper or a soft, dry cloth.

Caring for a double-glazed window consists of cleaning only the outer glass; it cannot be disassembled, as the tightness will be broken, as a result of which the heat and sound insulation characteristics will deteriorate.

Caring for double glazed windows is no different from caring for regular glass.

If the glass is covered with film or mirror coating, then it must be cleaned carefully so as not to damage such surfaces.

Caring for fittings and seals

During the first year of operation, you do not need to perform any actions with the fittings other than cleaning them from the outside. You need to make sure that all parts fit snugly against each other. If you notice that the handle is wobbly, you must immediately tighten its fastening.

It is recommended to clean rubber seals in spring and autumn. For this, soapy water is also used to remove dirt and dust. After this, the seals are coated with silicone grease.

Seals need to be lubricated at least once a year.

Please note that over time, the rubber seal loses its properties, and this negatively affects the heat and sound insulation characteristics of the door, so it must be changed periodically.

To ensure that the fittings work reliably and for a long time, it is recommended to lubricate them once a year. For this purpose, sewing machine oil is used, since it does not contain resin impurities. It comes in spray form, which is simple and easy to use. After applying the spray to the hinges or handles, they must be opened and closed 3-4 times so that the oil is evenly distributed.

Video: caring for fittings

Replacing the seal and adjusting the door when the frame is scratched

It may turn out that adjusting the door pressure did not bring the desired result. This happens because the rubber seal has worn out, and any adjustments to the door are pointless without replacing it.

Useful advice! To make work easier, remove the sash from the frame: this will give access to the rubber gaskets from the hinge side. It is better to choose a seal from the same manufacturer as the installed doors.

If the balcony doors do not close well and touch the frame, scratching its center, follow these instructions for self-adjusting plastic balcony doors:

Additional events

Adjustment of plastic windows must be carried out regularly. This should be taken as the basis for preventive work that will increase the service life of the window structure. But there are other activities that also increase the resource:

  • Moving elements must be lubricated periodically. Before lubrication, they must be cleaned of dust and dirt.
  • Check the fittings for serviceability. If necessary, carry out minor repairs.
  • Monitor all structures for distortions and deformations.

Prevention of malfunctions of balcony doors

If you had to build a house yourself, adjusting the balcony door fittings is more important, because you want the result of your work to last longer. To minimize the risk of future problems, try to follow these rules:

Adjusting the door hinge in three planes (shown by hexagons)

Useful advice! Microlift is especially relevant in the case of double-glazed windows, which are distinguished by their impressive weight and size. The design of the microlift can be different, representing a small lever on the side of the sash or a roller at its bottom.

Remember that adjusting the door yourself is possible, but requires attention, caution and careful diagnosis of problems. Therefore, if you have a valid warranty on your balcony door, if you identify the slightest malfunction, you should contact specialists who will quickly determine the causes of the problems.

If you are sure that the malfunctions are due to manufacturing defects or installation problems, it is also better to turn to professionals - tightening the bolts yourself in this case will not correct the situation.

If you decide to adjust the door yourself, be sure to follow the instructions, and if you replace the fittings, choose products from the same company as your balcony doors.

Balcony door

By and large, choosing balcony doors is not so difficult - if you look at it, there are few existing options. In addition to the classics familiar to everyone with a solid bottom and a glazed top, you can count a couple at most.

But the point, by and large, is not this - one way or another, a choice between them will still have to be made, and this choice must be fully conscious.

You will have to decide on literally every little detail: the correct profile, the correct opening system, and so on - this is the guarantee that you will get exactly what you need.

Classification of wooden doors

It is useful for every owner to know how to make a door out of wood themselves. Before you start making it, you should decide on the choice of door block. Based on the number of leaves, doors are divided into double-leaf (2 leaves) and regular.

The following types of products are distinguished:

  1. Deaf . These doors are made entirely from solid wood. They are produced without glazing and decorative inserts.
  2. Panel board . It is a frame made of boards and its filling - the so-called shield. Sheets of fiberboard, chipboard, MDF or thick cardboard are used as this shield.
  3. Paneled. Consists of wooden frame and panels.

    External view of the paneled door of the balcony block

    Panels can be flat or figured. Figured inserts, or fugares, are usually made from wood; MDF boards are less commonly used. Flat pads - from any of the above materials. A paneled door can be completely solid, glazed, or a combination of both.

Any of the listed models is suitable for installation on a loggia. It all depends on personal preference.

Balcony door: what it can be

First of all, modern people divide the entire existing range of balcony doors by material - it’s no secret that in addition to plastic products of this type that have become fashionable, you can also equip your balcony with a wooden balcony door, which, by the way, has little in its characteristics will be inferior to newfangled metal-plastic doors.

Both are now equipped with any type of double-glazed windows, modern fittings and even sealing gaskets. Moreover, wooden doors can be assembled from laminated veneer lumber, which makes them unaffected by changes in humidity and temperature. By and large, high-quality wooden balcony doors can even outperform their plastic counterpart in all respects.

In addition to this division, all balcony doors can have other varieties.

According to the opening method, they are divided into swing balcony doors and sliding balcony doors. Almost everyone is familiar with the first option, but, alas, few are familiar with the second - there is an opinion that they allow you to tightly close the opening, which is not entirely acceptable for a door that directly contacts the street.

In fact, this is a little different, and sliding balcony doors are completely airtight - in addition, they are very convenient products to use, especially when it comes to sliding systems.

What it is? These are sliding doors, the leaves of which open parallel to each other, regardless of their number - by and large, with the help of such a system it is possible to glaze balconies of infinitely long lengths. If, of course, this becomes necessary.

If we talk about swing doors, then the most you can count on is two opening halves of the doors - double-leaf balcony doors. To install them in a standard apartment, you will have to remove the window located next to it and knock out the partition on which it rests. If we consider the option with sliding systems, then the number of sashes may not be limited to two pieces, despite the fact that this is the optimal number.

To install more, you will have to remove the entire wall between the balcony and the living spaces, which is almost never possible due to the fact that it is a load-bearing wall.

According to the glazing method, which we briefly discussed above. Here, at the customer’s discretion, manufacturers of wooden and metal-plastic balcony doors offer either full glazing, or half, or rather tertiary - the lower third of the door is solid, and the rest of the top is transparent. As an option, you can even order completely blind balcony doors.

Naturally, we should not forget about other points that modern people pay little attention to due to the fact that the assembly and installation of products of this type is carried out by professional craftsmen. But if you plan to install a balcony door yourself, then you should not ignore these points. First of all, these are the dimensions - you will have to remove them yourself.

Secondly, the profile and fittings - the more chambers in the window profile, the better, but the fittings must be of high quality and proven. It's better not to skimp on these things. Thirdly, double-glazed windows - life has shown that single-chamber windows for windows in residential premises are unacceptable (they quickly freeze and become covered with perspiration).

Preparatory work

If there is a decision to install a new balcony door, then this event begins with drawing up a plan - what the wall with the balcony door should look like after the changes, what needs to be done for this. You can update the design within the existing opening or change the opening to suit a fresh idea. Purchase a door block for the balcony of the appropriate type.

Usually, after renovation, windows and window sills need to be washed and cleaned. And since the contaminants are specific, you need to know what to use for this. This information is here.

They are dismantling the old structure. The door is removed from its hinges. The box is removed using a mounting crowbar. The slopes are moistened to reduce dust. Remove traces of mortar, polyurethane foam or other deposits. If a PVC structure is being dismantled, the fastening elements are first removed: self-tapping screws, screws, plates.

Installation of plastic balcony doors: sequence and subtleties

It should be noted right away that the question of how to install a balcony door with your own hands is much easier to solve than installing any other door - it’s all about their rigidity. The metal-plastic profile negates all possible subtleties due to which the door installation can be done poorly. Although there are still some details, and we will get acquainted with them in the process of studying the sequence of work.

To begin with, the balcony doors need to be lightened a little - remove the glass unit from them, which will make it possible to carry out the work safely and, most importantly, alone. The glass unit can be removed very simply - use a chisel or a thin chisel to pry up the bead and pull it out completely.

Only the first one is difficult to remove, the remaining three are easy to remove. You should be careful not to drop the glass unit and break it into pieces.

Next, we take the doors and place them in the opening, having previously installed special brackets on the profile, which are necessary for the mechanical fastening of the door block.

Now we orient the frame relative to the horizontal level - the threshold and the upper crossbar of the frame should be located clearly at the horizon level. Alternatively, this moment can be checked at a vertical level by installing a measuring rod on the frame from its inside - where the passage is.

You can fix the required position using wooden pads installed under the bottom of the threshold.

At the same time as leveling the door block, you should also check the gaps on both sides of it - it is desirable that they be uniform.

Then you can install the first fastener - preferably the top one on the side of the door hinges. We simply drill a hole with a hammer drill and hammer in the dowel - before we finally hammer it in, we need to make sure that the position of the door block is not disturbed.

The second fastener is the bottom one on the side of the door hinges. It is first necessary to level the block vertically by placing a level on the frame from the indoor or outdoor side.

As soon as you achieve the required position of the bubble, you can immediately install the mount. Now the other side of the door block. What is important here is not the level, but the plane - the direction relative to the end of the doorway. You just need to move the box to the desired position (inside or out), and then install the fastenings - first the top, and then the bottom.

Now it’s just a matter of small things – control.

First, we check all possible horizon and vertical levels, then we check the functionality of the balcony door. If everything works as expected, then we attach the middle brackets on both sides of the block, to be sure, we wedge the box using wooden blocks and insert the double-glazed window into its original place. Now we take a can of polyurethane foam and thoroughly fill all the gaps around the door frame with polyurethane and leave it until completely dry - at least the doors cannot be opened for six hours.

Basically, that's all. As you can see, the balcony door is installed almost exactly the same way as a regular wooden product of this type.
